Hero Trials Online

Chapter 1: Closed Beta

"November 12 2025, the world is experiencing turmoil over the mysterious disease that overtook all the gamers that are testing out the game <>. Condolences to their families and be strong because they will surely make a comeback. Their coma has just started and now we are counting days"

The TV sounded from the living room, but the residents of the house were all over one boy, the boy that was using the VR headset.

"Brother...I hope you come back to us...I hope you can hear me...please snap out of it"

Meanwhile, the said brother was in a menu like screen, seeing himself in third person feeling confused and lost.

"Wow, that must be the customization screen...let me see the options" A blue window popped up with all the data on how to make a character. It had 6 species, 12 classes, and around 34 sub-classes.

"Please choose 1 race, 1 class and 2 sub-classes" A female voice, that of the system as Elijah assumed, guided him through the character creation screen.

"So...Human, Dragonoid, Elf, Beastman, Pixie or Dwarf...the choice is hard" After carefully looking at each race he moved his hand and pressed Human. "Well, I don't really care about the extra stats but I've heard that elves are gorgeous...too bad i like some difficulty in my game" He chuckled after talking to himself.

"Race selected, please move on to class. Choose carefully as this will not be able to change during your gameplay" The voice explained and went silent again.

Elijah nodded and started searching every description of each class to see which one is suited better."Let's see...Knight or assasin...I like both" After contemplating between them he reached out and pressed...mage. "I can't decide so I'll go with this one" He smiled satisfied about his decision.

A dissatisfied sigh was heard from the female voice but quickly regained it's prior character. "Now that the class have been selected, choose 2 of the following sub-classes"

A wide range of sub-classes popped up in front of him, but without thinking it over, he chose 2 in an instant. "Brawlwe and Blacksmith, those are the way to go now let me make my cha--"

Before Elijah could finish his sentence, a goddess started descending from above. "Wow, you must be the introducing NPC" After the goddess heard that she smacked the back of his head.

"I am no NPC...I'm a real goddess, and I personally came down to tell you that you're a jerk...you didn't even look at all the things I presented you with" The small and bratty goddess pouted as she finished talking, at the same time Elijah was rubbing his head where he had been hit.

"Yeah, yeah, now let me create my character you brat" Still thinking that the goddess was an NPC he talked harshly making the goddess furious.

"Sadly there is no such option you insolent fool...I'll give you a choice though so this time choose carefully...or else" She presented 3 skills in front of him, each one in a small blue window like the system.

"Hmm <>, <> and <>. "<> sounds neat" Before Elijah could press it, the goddess reached out and grabbed his hand.

"...I said choose carefully" Vissibly annoyed, she threw his hand back down and clicked her tongue, waiting for him to choose another one.

"...OK, then Combine it is" He started once again moving his hand to choose the skill but once again he was interrupted by the small goddess slapping his hand away. "OH MY GOD WILL YOU LET ME CHOOSE A SKILL YOU ANNOYING NPC" He yelled at her irritated.

"DON'T RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME YOU INSOLENT FOOL, I'M DOING YOU A FAVOR" She replied angrily and tapped the skill <> on her own.

"Now go down there and I hope you don't ever disturb me again Hmph" She pouted and suddenly the ground beneath Elijah's legs became the sky and he started falling, his visoon was now normal which made it even more terrifying. "WOAHHHH, YOU CRAZY BRAT WHAT ARE YOU DOING I'M GONNA DIE AND I DIDN'T EVEN START THE GAME"

Inches away from the ground, he automatically stopped and had a safe landing on his butt. Along with him, thousands of people were falling from the sky, although they all had a more peaceful landing than him.

Some time later, people stopped falling from the sky, and they were all in the same plains, a meadow full of tall grass and beautiful flowers.

"Look here, it feels so real. I can even smell these flowers" A random girl said as she picked up a flower and smelled it.

"Wow look at the sky, it's so beautiful" Another man exclaimed while looking at the orange colored sky as the sun was setting.

Suddenly, a bearded old man several times bigger than a human appeared floating over everyone's head. "Everyone, welcome to Arastel. In your world it's called <> but here, this world is real, it's no game like you all expecting it to be"

The tone changed from welcoming to serious as the old man started explaining the good old cliché of any other MMO game out there. Get strong, or not and defeat the final boss. That's the gist of it.

"Only if you defeat <> will you be able to go back to your own world" The old man said and disappeared.

"Yeah right, I'll just log out for today hahaha" A tall man with orange hair started laughing "System, Log out...Log out" He repeated it again and again but nothing happened.

The man fell on his knees in disbelief and tears started coming down from his eyes. "There is no Log out button"

At these words, chaos broke out. People started crying, others fell down in despair and others ran around in fear, but Elijah? He was smiling.

"...so the goddess brat was trying to help. Thanks a lot" He put his hands together and made a praying gesture. Soon after, some of the more behaved people started managing the crowd.

"Players who have the skill <> come here, we're assembling a party" A bearded man that looked to be a dwarf said loudly and a line formed in front of him. "Players with the skill <> please form a line and stop panicking, we're creating a guild" A busty Elf woman with a mature voice called out and quickly a huge line appeared in front of her...mostly made out of men.

Slowly but steadily, groups started forming. Each one specialized in different things based on their skills but still some people were left alone or some even formed parties because they met each other amidst the chaos.

"Everyone, there is a town nearby. Pull out the window and chek the map you will all see the town, Gikan" A blonde guy with vibrant blue eyes and a huge nose shouted like he was the leader of a pack. Well, in the end most of the people followed his instructions and started walking towards their destination.

Elijah had other plans on his mind so when the others started walking away, he stayed back along with a small number of players. Everyone looked at each other and walked deeper in the meadow.

"Window, inventory" The boy searched his inventory to find his starting equipment, which was a wooden cane and a ridiculous robe. "...this is what I get for choosing mage as my class" He sighed and equipped the staff. "Stats" After he started walking the window popped up in front of him.

"That's dope...let's go hunt" He said witha smile in his face and kept walking not noticing he walked into the forest. After a couple of hours of walking and not finding anything, he started getting exhausted but that's when he saw a little fox.

"Hey, come here little one" The animal looked hurt so as soon as he got close it got on the defensive and started growling. "I won't hurt you...look" He cast <> on it to make it feel better and maybe fix some of its wounds.

"Squeak Squeak"

"Yes yes, I'm not a bad guy" He smiled at the fox and slowly started petting it. The little animal accepted the attention and leaned into his palm.

The happiness he was feeling could not be described and when the fox stood up and jumped on his shoulder he was even more overjoyed. "I'll call you...Bacon" The fox instantly bit his cheek. "Damn...not Bacon...uhm, Aaron Fox then" Once again the fox bit him hard making him bleed to the point he had to use <>. "...OK uhmm Cloud...your name is Cloud"

Finally it smiled and nuzzled against his now healed cheek. Now it was time to go hunting deeper in the woods.

Chapter 2: New Area Unlocked

"<>, <>...and you...get sparked"

Elijah walked through the woods, unhinged as he used <> to eliminate all the low-level monsters. Cloud rested on his head as if nothing was happening around her.

"Oh, the drops are surprisingly good from such low level mobs" He thought to himself as he leaned down to gather all the things that the goblins and kobolds dropped.

"Level up, you have gained a level, your rewards await you in your window screen" The voice of the system sounded and startled the boy.

He scratched his head, confused that it was really like a game, although the god said clearly that it was a life or death situation. "Window, stats"

As the system suggested Elijah opened the window, and there were 2 not allocated stat points.

"Ohh that's nice to see" He smiled and went to touch the screen to put his new levels into Agility all at once but suddenly Cloud woke up and jumped on his hand making him put both of them in strength.

"...OK OK it's just the 2nd level...but if this happens again, I'm gonna roast you and eat you, you little rascal" He said trying to calm himself down. In response, the little fox gave back a smile and jumped down to start consuming the corpses of the defeated monsters.

"Cloud...if you wanted food I could have bought you some in the next town over" He  exclaimed, disgusted by his companion having a feast. "Anyways, let's keep going. It's really dark and we need shelter"

The mammal jumped back on the boys head and happily started nuzzling on it as he kept walking through the forest. After carefully passing by the thick bushes and tall trees, he stumbled upon some injured elves trying to fight back against a giant high level monster.

"<>" Elijah quickly jumped behind a tree trunk and used his skill to analyze the situation. "Two level 40 elves and one...level...??? MONSTER?" He freaked out after seeing their deference in levels and most importantly the deference between him and the monster.

"<>, <>, <>, <>" He repeatedly used <> to aid the elves but felt his Mana running out so he sat behind the trunk and watched. The two men fighting against the tree looking monster started healing after Elijah's help and they dealt some damage to their enemy. As a real gamer though, when the beast in front of them was low in HP he used his last remaining Mana Point to finish it off, in the process passing out of Mana exhaustion.

"Hehe, I might just...level...up" He succumbed to his dizziness and fell on the floor without his senses. His fox companion jumped down and assumed a defensive position, using her white elegant fur as a shield.

Just minutes after, or at least what felt like that, he opened his eyes and jolted up, looking around. "You, you are the elves that fought against that mob"

"Agianst what?" One of the armored men replied confused.

"Nothing, are you both allright?" He said, falling back onto the comfy bed they put him on.

"If it weren't for you sir and the heavenly beast, we wouldn't have made it out alive" The other elf turned around and pointed to Cloud, which was wearing a high class cloth and was feasting in delicious looking fruits.

"Uhm...that's my" As he began talking both of the men looked at him with glistening eyes like looking at a god or something. "Never mind" He sighed and relaxed, trying to replenish his Mana Points.

"So, sir benefactor, what might your name be?" The man on the left said with a broad smile, his long white hair and green eyes shined from the light of the sun.

"Uhm, Elijah...where am I?" He asked confused but certainly relaxed by their hospitality.

"Hanor Ponto sir benefactor, the kingdom of the elves and specifically you're in the kings guest room laying on the bed" Both of the elves opened up to reveal an old man with a beard and long white hair like the other elves.

"WHAT THE HECK? I'M IN A NEW HIGH LEVELED AREA AND ON TOP OF THAT THE KING IS IN FRONT OF ME?" He was freaking out in his mind but on the outside he was looking all calm and collected as the kings stood up and walked towards him.

Quickly with whatever Mana he had recovered he used <> on the old man but when the window popped up only question marks appeared both on his level and his HP, just like the monster. "Hahaha, young one, don't be so cautious, this skill won't work on me. Our difference in levels is too high" He let out a hearty laugh and sat next to Elijah who was laying down on the bed.

Even finishing off the high-level monster he still couldn't see the level of the king. "I-I'm so sorry your majesty" He audibly gulped in the old man's presence. Wasting no time, he opened the window to see his new level.

He started thinking in silence, he hadn't noticed that both the king and the other 2 elves were looking at him and waiting for him to speak. "When I was level 2, I could see the level 40 elves but not the monster...meaning that there is at least a 40 level difference between us" He looked terrified and started sweating as he looked back up at the king.

"To what may I owe the pleasure of your visit your majesty?" He smiled trying to hide his fear.

"...Young one, there is no need to be scared, you should be happy instead" The old man smiled back and patted Elijah on the head like he was a little kid despite him being 18 years old.

"Huh? Why is that. Excuse me, why should I be happy your majesty? Is there a special occasion?" He started feeling at ease, like the old kings hand soothed him as he tried to maintain his manners.

"There is no need to talk politely either, after all you saved my precious children so I owe my life to you, I should be the one talking formally" The king pulled his hand back and slightly bowed to Elijah which was still laying down.

He quickly sat straight and fixed his hair. "Your majesty, please don't bow to a nobody like me, I just stole the pray of your chi--WAIT WHAT? Your children?"

Once again he got shocked as the realization hit him. "I'm Edoris and this is my sister Alvis" The lightly guarded elf said and then pointed to the elf cladded in heavy armor.

She slowly removed her armor to reveal her pointy ears and long white hair along with her shiny golden eyes. "I'm Alvis, thanks for saving my life sir Elijah" She said with a blush across her cheeks.

With his jaw in the floor, Elijah regained his composure and cleared his throat. "Nice to meet both of you"

"Now that introductions are over, I would like to talk about your rewards sir Elijah" The king said and gave him a warm smile once again.

"Leave him alone you old man, he just woke up" Edoris pulled his hair back and looked frustrated. Alvis gasped and covered her mouth at her brother's display and Elijah...needless to say he was shocked for yet another time.

"You idiot son of mine...Oh spirits, I Asmus ask for your help. Close that filthy mouth of my son <>" After his casting a small spirit appeared and used a kind of magic that made Edoris mouth shut and not open even if he wanted to.

"I hate to admit it but however rude he might be, he is right. When you're feeling better come down and we'll talk it over a feast" He fixed his hair and took both his children by their ear, practically dragging them out of the room.

"Cloud...come here please" Obediently, the little white fox made her way to the bed where Elijah once again fell back and laid down. Shortly after he started petting his companion.

"Let's allocate the points that I got and then go to eat, what do you say about that huh?" He smiled at Cloud and she nuzzled closer as he opened the system window.

"Allright everything into Mp it is" He happily put all 50 points on his Mana stat without even bothering looking at any other stat, even Cloud was shocked and she couldn't even see the window.

Chapter 3: Unique Title

After Elijah took his time allocating the Stat Points he gained from all the level ups, it was time to head down to have a feast with the royal family.

As he was descending the stairs and walking throughout the castle, he checked the level of every individual, and everyone...was at least 40 levels over him, so only question marks could be seen next to their health bars and levels.

"Cloud, get off my head and act dignified, OK? We're here" He said as he stepped up before a giant door, maybe 3 times his size. Suddenly, as he was about to push it open, it started slowly opening by itself to reveal a huge table full of tasty looking dishes and the 3 elves sitting down waiting for Elijah.

"Welcome sir Elijah, we've prepared the tastiest delicacies in the whole of Hanor Ponto. Come here and sit so we can start eating" The king said and patted the seat next to him on the head of the table, but before Elijah could sit, a pleasant surprise took place.

"Father, he'll sit next to me for this evening. Rest assured, I'll make sure to present him every dish and make him taste the best ones we have to offer" Alvis grabbed his arm, and her chest was pressing against it making Elijah blush furiously.

"Here sir Elijah" She smiled and led him to his seat next to her and her brother. They both sat down and he checked the fancy clothes they were wearing, then he compared them to his and sighed.

"Thank you, everyone, for making this celebration, but -" As he was talking, Cloud slipped out of his arms and started ravaging the food in front of them.

"Hohoho, let the Devine beast eat all it wants. Now sir Elijah, let's start negotiating" Asmus, the elf king changed to a more serious tone after that, Elijah just sat back and braced himself for what was about to come.

"I want you to have my daughters hand" He said with full confidence, his expression not changing at all as he looked directly into Elijah's eyes.

"...Uhm" He looked over to Alvis, which was blushing and hiding her face with her hands, but not being opposed to her father's proposition.

"I'll respectfully decline. Even if Alvis is beautiful and strong, I'm not here to marry or find love...since you rescued me after I blacked out, I'll tell you a secret" He sighed reluctantly, now all eyes were on him.

"I'm an otherworlder...I've come to this place by accident, and I have to defeat <> so I can go back home" When he finished talking, all 3 members of the royal family looked at each other and started laughing out loud.

"Hahaha we already know sir Elijah" Edoris said, holding back tears.

"Sir Elijah, it's not that rare for otherworlders to be here" Alvis tried to hold her laugh back, resulting in her looking even cuter.

"Sir Elijah, I too have the <> skill. How many years do you think I've lived for" The king chuckled as he explained the situation.

Elijah's face flushed red from embarrassment, Cloud just kept eating but snickering from time to time like she understood the situation.

"O-ok I get it...so you've met otherworlders before?" He asked and looked at the three elves and then took a bite of the delicious looking food that was in front of him.

"Long story short, our mother was an otherworlder" Edoris explained with a smile. "She came from earth as a human but turned into an elf when she got here"

"As my son said, my wife was not of this world but I loved her regardless" Asmus reminisced about his deceased wife. "Sorry for asking" Elijah said after the mood got heavy.

"Well, she's been gone for a while now so there's no need to worry" Alvis smiled at Elijah after talking to him with a cute voice as always.

"Does that mean..." Elijah said confused. "Yes sir Elijah, every 100 years a new batch of otherworlders is summoned into the world of Arastel and the previous bunch included my dear wife which is no longer with us" The kings smiled at Elijah.

"Wow I didn't know, once again sorry for asking such insensitive question your highness" He bowed his head apologetically, but as he did that, Alvis reached out and patted his head.

"Sir Elijah, I already told you there is no need to worry" She warmly smiled at him as she continued doing her actions.

"Sister...please don't act like that towards our savior" Edoris said embarrassed on her accord. In response the beautiful female elf pulled her hand back and apologized.

"...I'll take your hand in marriage" Elijah mumbled and kept his head bowed to hide his grin.

"What did you say? I didn't hear a thing" The king said loudly from the other side of the huge table.

"Nothing at all" He replied after composing himself. "Ugh...anyways back to our conversation. I kind of expected you to decline so I prepared another option"

Elijah nodded and waited for it, hoping it's not absurd like the last one. "We can get you to level 50" The old man said and laid back on his chair.

"With a certain item we can... which is very expensive" He mumbled the last part under his breath. "We can make you gain the necessary experience to reach exactly level 50. How does that sound sir Elijah?"

Exasperated he could become so high leveled at the beginning of his journey, he nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes please. I want that, please ughh" From all the excitement, he bit his tongue and covered his mouth.

"Bring it in" Asmus said with a sigh and a servant walked in, he was wearing a tuxedo and was holding a tray with a shiny looking orb on it.

"Sir Elijah, I have to warn you that this is very dangerous...if it fails, you could be stuck at the same level forever" Edoris said slightly concerned.

"Don't worry, I have it" Elijah smiled and waited for the servant to leave the small orb on the table.

After the servant did his job, he bowed and left. That's when all of the eyes were once again on Elijah...except Cloud, Cloud kept eating, not bothered by the situation.

Alvis gently took his hand and placed it on the orb. "Sir Elijah, just think of the sensation of leveling up and it'll be done"

"...Just marry me already" Elijah said in his head and once again regained his composure. "Thanks Alvis, I'll do my best" Alvis nodded along with the usual smile and let him do it.

Soon after he closed his eyes, a blinding light started shining from the orb.

"Level up, due to being the first otherworlder to reach level 50, you're going to be awarded with a Unique Title" The voice of the system said out of nowhere.

"Huh? Unique Title?" He said scratching his head in confusion. "Elijah...did you just say Unique Title?" The king said surprised and stood up to walk next to Elijah after he absorbed the orb.

"Yes indeed, but it has yet to reveal the name" He looked up at him and sighed.

"<> this title will give you the power to combine 2 skills of yours and in exchange you'll get a more powerful one" Elijah said out loud at the same time with the System so the king and the others could listen.

"...You're definitely a monster amongst irregulars my boy" He gave him a hearty laugh afterwards and sat on the seat next to him. The Stat window automatically popped up.

"Woah I even gained a new skill, and all of my existing skills got upgraded" He said excitedly as he checked his stats. The 2 younger elves clapped for him, and the king patted his back.

"Well when you level up to level 50 that is what happens, don't let it get into your head" He said to Elijah thinking his new skill was a low ranked one.

"Thank you so much all of you, I'm really grateful and I'll do anything to pay you ba--" Before he could stand up and bow Cloud sniffed the orb he had used and quickly ate it, swallowing it up. Everyone looked at her shocked.

"NO YOU IDIOT SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT" He quickly started bumping her back so she could spit it out but to no avail.

"It seems that the Divine beast will...get even more divine" Alvis said and chuckled.

"Why are you calling Cloud Divine beast anyways?" He said still freaked out from the whole thing. Quickly he used <> to check her window in case of a bad effect.

"Master...is something wrong?" The little fox said with a female voice out loud. Elijah couldn't be more surprised, so he actually fainted.

"Hey master, did I do something bad? The form of the little fox started changing, but he couldn't see it because he lost consciousness.
