The Vampire's Bride

The Engagement

I stood in the kitchen humming to myself. I was baking some cupcakes. Baking was one of my hobbies. I heard the door to the kitchen open. "Miss, I'll do that for you," The chef here said while trying to take the pan of raw cake batter away from me. "I'm fine Madeline, I can do it myself." Madeline was the chef here, she had been here for almost 40 years. She wanted to do everything for me but I wanted to be independent. I mean I did burn myself a couple of times but still. I put the cupcakes in the oven to bake.

"Okay, miss but please be careful," I looked at her and nodded. She walked out of the kitchen, closing the door behind her. I lived in a rich family. My parents were the king and queen of this kingdom. They were very strict with me as I was the oldest child. I had a younger brother that was going to be raised as the heir of the throne. Sometimes I wished I lived in a normal family. I know I shouldn't be complaining because I had everything I wanted but I had to live up to high expectations. Everything between me and my family was business. I felt like I didn't even know my parents.

We were in constant war with vampires. The creatures that everyone thought was just a myth. But before I was born the vampires had started coming out of hiding. Now they have expanded. My parents are trying there best to contain them. "Miss, your parents have called for your presence," I heard the maid, Ashley say. I smiled at her and nodded. "Oh, could you do me a favor and watch my cupcakes, I don't want them to burn."

"Sure thing," she said. I walked out of the kitchen and walked up the stairs to their office. I wasn't excited about this. I walked into there office and my mother and father were sitting side by side behind a desk. I sat in the chair in front of them. "Raven, we have something very important to talk to you about." My father said. I stayed silent waiting for him to continue. "As you know we have been at war with the vampires for years. It has gotten to a point where we will not be able to hold them for much longer. A few months ago we made a deal with the king of the vampires. To end this war we decided to arrange a marriage."

I did not like where this was going.

"Since your 18th birthday is tomorrow, we have arranged for you to marry the Vampire Prince," I was completely shocked. "What do you mean? You want me to marry that horrible creature!" My voice was shaking but I started shouting. "Dammit, Raven. You are going to marry him no matter what! This is for our kingdom!" My dad shouted at me. I got up out of the chair and ran to my room. Tears were streaming down my face. How could they make me marry him? They are horrible creatures. They had no heart. I sat on my bed with my knees held up to my chest. I didn't want to get married. I haven't even lived half my life yet. I was too young to get married. I was sobbing at this point. The door to my room opened and my mother walked in.

"Aw, sweetie don't cry." My mother sat on the bed with her arm around me. "It's not that bad. We made sure they'll take good care of you." Through the sobs, I asked, "Wh-when is the wedding?"

"I'm not sure. The king and queen will be here later today with the prince. We'll be discussing the wedding," That made me want to cry even more. The prince was going to be here. "You should get ready soon, okay? I promise everything will be okay." With that, my mom gave me a kiss on the forehead and left.

I dragged myself off the bed and into the bathroom. I started up a bath and grabbed all my things. I decided on wearing a simple black sundress. I got into the bath and tried to relax. I was feeling scared. I didn't know what the prince even looked like and I was getting married to him. I only heard rumors about him. All the rumors said he was a heartless monster, with a quick temper. I wasn't excited about meeting him. I washed my hair and body and got out. I put the dress on and a necklace my father had given me. It was a heart that was made out of sapphire. It had diamonds around it. I grabbed some gray flats and put them on. I did my hair and put a bit of makeup on.

I sat on my bed trying to get rid of the uneasy feeling in my stomach. I walked downstairs and into the kitchen. On the table, I saw the plate of frosted cupcakes. I completely forget about my cupcakes. I heard the door open, and then Madeline spoke. "I saw your cupcakes on the table, I frosted them for you. I hope you don't mind," I turned toward her and smiled. "Thank you, I completely forgot about them."

"Miss, your mother needs you in the dining room. The vampires have arrived," Ashley said. I nodded at her and waved at Madeline. She gave me a worried look. I walked to the dining hall and outside the door, my father was standing there. He grabbed my arm and whispered, "You better be on your best behavior." With that, he let go of my arm and opened the door to the dining room for me. Inside my mother was there. The king and queen sat across from her. The prince sat next to them. He turned toward me and I made eye contact with his grey eyes.

How do you think the prince will be toward Raven?

The Prince

I stood there. I couldn't take my eyes off his. They were so beautiful. His eyes were grey almost white. I felt my dad give me a push and I snapped out of it. I walked over to the table and sat next to my mom. I felt anxious. I could feel them staring at me. I kept my head down. My dad sat next to me and started speaking. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Blackthorne." The kings' eyes were blue and the Queens' were green. The queen had red hair and the king had black. They were stunning, they had no flaws they looked perfect. They looked me up and down. It made me feel self-conscious. My parents started talking about the wedding.

"I suggest they get married at our palace, we have the perfect place to hold the wedding" I heard Mr. Blackthorne say. They started discussing how they wanted to arrange the wedding. I didn't listen much. Until I heard them mention the date. "We can have the wedding by next week," My mother said. I looked at her. Next week, that's too soon. "Excuse me, I got something to do," I got up and rushed out of the room. My breathing was heavy, and my heart was pounding. They wanted me to get married in a week. That's too soon.

I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cup. I poured myself some water. I had to calm down. I had to think about this. If I don't marry him our kingdom won't survive for long. I turned around and leaned against the table. I took a drink of the water and closed my eyes, trying to calm my breathing. I heard the door to the kitchen open. I expected it to be Ashley or Madeline. I opened my eyes and was met with the Prince's grey eyes. I gasped and I felt the cup slip from my grasp. I flinched when the cup shattered on the floor. "Shit," I whispered. I kneeled down and started picking up the pieces. "Why are you in here?" I asked. "I came to see what my future wife was up to," he said while walking up to me. "So what do you think of this arranged marriage?" I don't know why I asked but I did.

"Honestly I'd rather marry a vampire than some human." He said the word human with disgust in his voice. "It's not like I wanted to marry you either," I said in a whisper, mainly talking to myself.

"What did you say?" He asked

"Nothing," I looked back down and continued to pick up the glass. I felt him grab my arm and pull me up. He squeezed my hand around the glass and pushed me against the wall. His strength was overpowering. I winced as the glass dug into my skin making me bleed. "What did you say?" He asked. I stayed silent. I don't see why he's getting mad. He doesn't want to marry me either. "You're lucky I'm even marrying you, girls would die for a chance to be with me." He whispered into my ear.

"Let go of me!" I struggled to get away from him. He gave me a smirk, then finally let go. I looked at my hand. Pieces of glass were deeply embedded in my hand. Blood was flowing from my wounds. I looked up at him and gasped when I saw his eyes turning red. I quickly ran out of the kitchen and into the bathroom and locked the door. I started pulling the glass out of my hand. I winced when I pulled out the biggest shard of glass. I washed the blood off my hand and bandaged it. Little dots of blood seeped through the bandage. My heart was still pounding. What is wrong with him? Why were his eyes turning red? I walked out of the bathroom and saw him standing outside the door. His eyes were back to grey. "Don't say anything, or I swear you'll regret it." He walked away and headed back to the dining room.

I waited a while then finally went back to the dining room. They all had plates in front of them while the maids served them food. Did vampires eat food? "Nice to see your back, Raven," Mr.Blackthorne said as I sat down. "Yes, I'm sorry for taking too long." The chef served us food. "So Raven, we decided to have the wedding next week." Mrs. Blackthorne said. I looked up and nodded. I wanted to object but my father would be very angry with me if I made a fool out of him. "Yes, sweetie, we will be having it at their palace. We'll take care of all the decorations, the dress, and we'll be sending out letters to all our friends."My mother gave me a smile. When she said friends she meant all the other noble and rich people.

I started eating my food. "What happened to your hand?" My dad grabbed my hand and looked at me. I looked at the Prince and seen him glaring at me. I looked back at my dad and made up a lie. "Oh, it's nothing I just accidentally dropped a cup and the glass cut my hand. He shook his head, letting go of my hand, "You should be more careful,"  I nodded and continued eating while they talked. I found out the queens' name was Selene, and the kings' name was Adrian, and the Princes' name was Andrew. Soon after that, we showed them out and they went back to their palace. "So, what did you think of Andrew?" My mother asked. I wanted to tell her what happened, and that I didn't want to marry him at all. But I knew better than to do that. Andrew made it clear that I shouldn't tell them. "I- I think he was great, I liked him a lot," I forced a smile and she seemed to believe me. "That's great sweetie. I told you it wouldn't be bad. Now go get some rest," With that, I headed off to my room and laid on my bed. I took the bandage off my hand and saw the small cuts covering my palm. I let out a sigh, what should I do?

Do you think the prince will change his attitude toward her?

The Wedding

I sat on a chair while the hairstylist Selene hired did my hair. Today was my wedding. The week before my wedding past by so fast. I was busy with the arrangements. I needed to get the measurements for my dress and they wanted to know what kind of flowers I wanted at the wedding. We decided on orchids. For the bouquet, Selene wanted to have black and red roses that she had in her garden. The makeup artist had put on a bit of makeup, not too much.

When they were done I looked in the mirror. I looked beautiful. My hair was put into a fishtail braid and there were blue lilies in my hair. My makeup was done perfectly. The mascara and eyeliner made my green eyes looked bigger and brighter. I had some maroon lipstick on. I looked stunning, too bad I had to marry a vampire.

"Sweetie you look absolutely beautiful." My mother said. Her eyes were wide. "Now let's get you into your dress," I put the dress on and my mom zipped the back. The dress hugged all my curves. I couldn't believe I was getting married. I just turned 18 and I was already getting married. I felt tears prick at my eyes but I couldn't cry right now. The makeup artist did such a great job and I didn't want to ruin it. I looked at myself in the mirror. I was smiling but my eyes told a different story. "Well, what do you think?" My mom asked. Her eyes held so much joy. "I love it," I lied. "Well, it's almost time. Take a little rest, we only have to sort a couple of things." She walked out and I was left with my thoughts. I put my 2-inch heels on. My mother insisted that I wear hills. I wasn't a big fan of the idea.

We were in  Andrew's kingdom because they said they wanted to hold the wedding here. I wasn't allowed to see anything on the way here. The windows were dark preventing me from seeing anything. I did get to see the palace. It was bigger than ours and it was made of stone. Their maid had led me to this room. I sat there, thinking. Should I run? No, I can't do that. I let out a groan. What am I suppose to do? Andrew was evil. The way he acted when he came to our palace. My wound had finally healed. He was heartless, how would I ever survive here, with him. I was supposed to live with him too, in the vampire kingdom. With thousands of vampires around, and I'd be the only human.

I heard the door open and my father stood there. He ushered me out of the room. "It's time," He said. I grabbed the bouquet of flowers and walked toward him. He interlocked our arms and we started walking outside. We were holding the wedding outside. I looked around, we walked on the grass. That's when I saw it. The chairs lined up and the altar in the middle. There were hundreds of people. Most were vampires but some humans. The altar was beautiful, there were red and white roses on the altar with green leaves. Under the Altar, I saw Andrew. He was dressed in a black tuxedo with a red tie. I'm not going to lie, he looked very attractive. We were walking down the aisle now. I was so nervous. He walked me to the altar then let go of me. I stood under the altar with Andrew. The priest stood there, he started speaking. I couldn't focus on what he was saying.

It was overwhelming. I stared into Andrew's eyes. He didn't seem angry, there was some emotion in his eyes but I couldn't figure it out.

"Do you take Raven as your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"

"I do," his response was quick. He didn't even have to think about it.

"Do you take Andrew as your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"

I hesitated. I looked toward my parents. They sat in the front row. My mom nodded at me. I turned back and looked at Andrew. "I do,"

"The rings, please." The rings were given to the priest. I grabbed Andrew's ring and handed the bouquet to one of the bridesmaid who I didn't know. Our rings were black with a big diamond on it. I put the ring on his finger. He grabbed my hand and put, y ring on my finger. My breathing was shallow.

"You may kiss the bride." I didn't get any time to think before I felt Andrew pull me towards him and the feeling of his lips on mine. I closed my eyes. You can do this Raven, just deal with it. He broke the kiss and then everyone started clapping. I was married now, at the age of 18, to someone I didn't love. I put on a smile. My mother was crying tears of joy while my father held her.

I thought we were finished until the priest spoke. "Andrew, it's time to mark her," Mark me? What are they talking about? Andrew nodded then turned toward me. He walked closer to me. I looked toward my mother but she avoided eye contact. Is there something she didn't tell me? He grabbed me and pulled me close to him. He moved the hair away from my neck and I immediately knew what he was doing. I tried to push him away but he held me tightly. Then I felt the pain. His fangs sunk deeply into my skin. It felt like my body was on fire. I tried to push him away from me. I shut my eyes and tried to hold in a scream. A whimper escaped from me. My body started feeling weak.

He finally let go of me and I felt my body fall against him. He held me up as I was too weak to stand. I looked up at him and gasped. His eyes were a bright red color. I didn't have any energy to push him away. I heard the sound of clapping before my vision completely went black.
