"Run Ophelia! Run" they shout at me. They're stuck under a wall that had collapsed by their legs.
"No. Mum Dad. I can't leave you"I shout, tears Running down my face like a fountain.
She grabs my shoulders and hugs me. it's a tight hug. I know that this is the lAst time I'd see them.
"Listen to me baby. You have to run. Or else you'll die. I promise that we'll always be with you. Now go!" she turns me around and shoves me. My legs move on their own. I run, wiping tears off of my face as I do. Then I hear a boom! An explosion goes off that throws me away. I land against a tree with a thud. "Mu-m," I croak as I fade in and out of consciousness. "No" I faint.
When I come to I am in a room. Everything is white and there's a strong smell of anesthetic in the air. "W-where am I?" I wonder. I am on a bed. Furthermore, I push myself up using my elbows as support to a sitting position. There are some needles in my arm. They're connected to a long tube which is in turn connected to a bag that is supposedly supplying me with water. "Am I in a hospital. How did I get here?" my mind is foggy. But Then I remember. the explosion!!! My mum And dad died.
an overwhelming sense of dread washes over me. My parents had left me, and I was the only child. Why, just why did they have to leave. I would have rather died than them. Tears of despondency flow down my cheeks. I was. So immersed in my sorrow that I didn't notice someone had come in.
"So, you're awake. Thanks to the gods." came a warm sweet voice. I look up to see a tall woman with long wavy locks of black and brown eyes. She was a nurse judging by her uniform. When she saw my tear-streaked face her expression immediately became one of worry as she rushed over to me. " What's wrong? Don't cry. It'll be okay" she tried comforting me. I couldn't speak. My voice just didn't work. She pulled me into a tight hug, caressing my back. I put my hands around her thin waist too. We stayed in that position until I had calmed down. Then she drew away.
"Are you hungry?"she asked. I gave a tiny nod. I hadn't realized how hungry I was until she mentioned it. "Ok dear, I'll go bring you your food. In the meantime you have a visitor." me, a visitor? Who could it be. as she went out and elderly lady came in. it was my grandmother.
"granny?" I asked. "yes my dear. it is I." as she came hugged me a faint scent of green apples eveloped me.yes, this sweet scent that was characteristic of her, of the countryside. it brought back so many memories.
When the food was brought granny helped me eat. She told me that she had heard about what had happened, and they would be given a proper burial, though there was nobody to bury. I would be staying with her from then on. I felt happy. Granny was one of the few who actually valued us in the family. After eating, I went back to sleep. Granny went out.
I was discharged from the hospital two days later. They had kept me that long to make sure that no radiation from the explosion had affected me. The diagnosis was that I was fine. All that the radiation had done was to make my skin paler. I was told that it would go back to normal in maybe a few years. "Great, now I'm stick looking like a vampire" I think, rolling my eyes.
we went to our house to collect my belongings.seeing the huge mansion looming before my eyes, I felt nostalgic and tears threatened to choke me. outside the house was a large group of people. looking closer I realized that they were our relatives. "what the hell are they all doing here?" I wasn't particularly fond of them, just a few. two faced people who only look for money. they used to mock my parents and use them just for their money. my parents usually just kept quiet. their kids were mean to me and bullied me but there was nothing I could do about it. I bore with it
only one person was nice to me and protected me. from the others. that is duncan. oh, sweet duncan. he was that
E only one willing to approach and befriend me. He was by my side always. I hoped that he was there. When we drew up on the driveway and alighted from the car, all eyes were on us. Then they started whispering and looking our way. Some were snickering and grinning. Then I saw him, Duncan. Small baby like face staring at my from the crowd. Sorrow in his eyes, genuine Sorrow.
Ignoring everyone (including him) and their pitiful stares I went into the house. I went straight to my room first. It was just the same as I remember. Pink walls, my study desk at the corner of the room, next to It a bookshelf filled with books that it groans under the weight. My bed right at the center on a Pink carpet. Everything's just 5ye same except for the life. It's as if all the life has been sucked out of the house. It all looks so depressing now.
I pack My things, remembering all the memories we had here and how I was leaving It all behind. "Ophelia"came a voice. Hm. has Someone called me? I go to my grandma, who is sItting on the couch in the living room. "Granny, did you call me?" I asked her.
"deary me. no I didn't call you dear. by the way, are you done packing?"she asks with a smile
"almost. I'll get back to it right now" I say Then head back to my room. I go on packing but I have this unsettling feeling in my chest.
