You Changed Me

Waking Up

6/27/16

I opened my eyes annoyed, then grabbed my phone angrily. I was about to ask who it was, but then Kelseys’ yelling cut me off.

“Carlos! Get the hell up! You were supposed to be here 15 minutes ago, we’re going to be late to the bonfire!!” she said anxiously.

I yawned, “Where am I supposed to be?”

“The Arcade idiot. If you don’t get here soon, Jenny will make me work, hurry your *** up!”

“Shit, well I’ll be there in about five mintues Kelse.”

I jumped out of bed and grabbed the clothes I shoved under my bed earlier. Kelsey came over last night, and I didn’t really want to clean, so I hid them there.

I sniffed the white shirt in my hand making sure it was clean, then changed into it along with my swim trunks.

I unplugged my phone and walked into the living room looking for my sneakers.

I glanced at the clock and noticed it had already been five minutes.

Shit…

I slide on my sandals by the door in a hurry and grabbed my keys running to the elevator.

Once the door shut I looked at my reflection through the metal walls, patting my bed hair down so I didn’t look like a crackhead.

I tugged my shirt down right before the elevator opened to the main floor.

“How has everything been doing?” I asked my favorite employee while leaning on his desk.

“Pretty good, we’re fully booked until next month,” he responded glancing through the list of rooms.

“Maybe we should add onto the hotel Jorge, not just rooms, but another pool?”

I had already expanded this hotel before, I added on a hangout den and a bar. Ever since then my business has been doing good. It was about time we used the rest of our land.

“We are already a four-star hotel, doing this would make us at the top of the list,” Jorge agreed, “Maybe we’ll get more chicas eh?”

I smirked, “Yeah, maybe. Well I got to go, see you later tonight.”

I turned back to the door and started walking towards the exit.

Love wasn’t really my thing, I don’t know how it feels to be loved, nor do I know how to love someone. But it doesn’t really matter since there isn’t many girls here my type in Hawaii.

A girl starts walking backwards but then bumps into me and steps forward awkwardly.

I watched her as she crossed her arms with confidence hiding her embarrassment.

“Stop looking at me, you pervert, I know how you guys think nowadays. Don’t even try me,” she waved her finger in the air disapproving me.

I chuckled, “I’m no pervert, you’re just a very beautiful woman.”

She stops shaking her finger as her cheeks turn a light tint of pink.

The woman was really attractive. Her complexion was clear, the only thing you noticed on her face that wasn’t doll-like, was a mole above her lip. She wore a yellow shirt that held her chest tightly, but she also wore jeans showing she still held some dignity.

“Move stupid man, I need to check in, I have somewhere to be.”

“Same,” I said walking around her to the main doors, “See you later!”

I inhaled a gust of fresh air when the wind blew, messing up my hair right after I fixed it.

Damn…

I checked my phone before jogging to the Arcade a few blocks away from my hotel. I had to hurry before Kelseys’ boss puts her to work and didn’t let us go to the beach.

The Bonfire

6/27/16

Me and Kelsey showed up the beach holding hands, our step in harmony along with our breathing.

I looked around observing everyone, but then I saw beer in a cooler next to the Dj booth. So I let go of Kelsey and went a beer.

I turned around to ask if Kelsey wanted one too, but she was already walking into the water. I sighed smiling, I should’ve known she would go to the ocean right away, she picked this location for the even just so she could swim in the water. She always told me it relieved her stress, and gave her hope, whatever that means.

“Kelsey!”

She turned back to me pulling her hair into a bun. She smiled sweetly as I walked closer, soon I was also in the water.

“You know Carlos, I might not always be here, you need to learn to take care of yourself, and wake up before 5:00 pm,” Kelsey said the last party humorously.

I wasn’t laughing.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

She opened her eyes and held out her hands. I stared at her, she promised she’d always be there for me, was this a goodbye?

“Is this goodbye?” I asked nervously.

She frowned, “Of course not, I made a promise didn't I?”

I looked down at her hands and held them hesitantly. She smiled up at me before swinging her body to the right. I followed her like when we were children playing ‘ring-around-the-rosie’.

“What would you do without me Carlos?” Kelsey laughed, “Anyways, isn’t it about time you find a girl and get married? You’re already twenty-six.”

I looked back at the event on the beach ignoring her question, “Let’s go get you a beer Kelse.”

She held my arm preventing me from moving, “I’m serious Carlos, you know how your mum is..you should find someone to get married soon. I’m sure it won’t be hard, you’re really good looking and I know a lot of girls like you.”

“It’s not about that Kelsey, if I marry someone, I want it to be someone I love, not some stranger I met two days beforwe our wedding.”

She squeezed my hand changing the topic to a way better one, “Beer sounds good.”

I smiled, that’s what I’ve been waiting to hear all day.

Ever since the bonfire lit me and Kelse have been drinking alcohol non-stop, well maybe not Kelsey but I have.

“No,” Kelsye laughed, “I'm not kidding, you’re really handsome, go find yourself a girl man,” she punched my arm harder than intended.

“Shut up,” I said finishing up my beer, “I’m gonna get more.”

“Me too please,” Kelsey smiling stretching.

I stood and wobbled over to the cooler, almost tripping over a few things. I reached my hand in searching for my favorite drink, but then my hand brushed against someone else's.

I grinned rubbing the soft skin, “So smooth…”

“Umm, you’re from that hotel right? I knew you were a pervert!”

I opened my eyes widely, I couldn’t believe I said that aloud, I swung my hand over my face, but in doing so, I slapped my cheek.

The woman giggled, “You’re drunk aren’t you?”

“What’s it to you?” I said pulling out a beer and swinging it in front of her.

She rolled her eyes, “Who did you come with?”

“My best friend, she’s really nice, you guys would be great friends!”

She crossed her arms not pleased, “Where is she?”

I entwined my arm in hers and tugged her back over by the ocean.

“Hey! Let me go! I don’t want to-”

I let the girl go right before the waves crashed into my ankles. Kelsey turned to me and insulted me, I frowned back, then started stripping.

I ran into the water with nothing on me but my swim trunks. Kelse tried to run deeper into the ocean, but I got to her first. I tackled her wrapping my arms around her waist biting her arms. She shrieked back and the woman I brought to the water ran in after us.

I get the girl thought I was seriously hurting Kelsey, but this was the closest I’ve been to her since middle school. I didn’t want her to ruin my chance, so I splashed her with water once she was standing in front of me.

She crossed her arms pissed, I grinned mischievously. Kelsey busted out laughing in my arms, she held onto she shoulder trying to keep herself above the sand.

“God! You’re such an asshole!” She yelled.

I glanced down at her chest, and noticed her shirt was totally see through. I stared at it not knowing what I was doing, she picked up her sandal and whipped it across my face instantly.

“PERVERT!”

“Hey! Don’t hit my bestfriend!” Kelsey stood, she steadied herself before taking away the sandal in the womans’ hand. Kelse turned to the ocean and chucked the shoe as far as she could. Then she turned back to the girl crossing her arms.

“You owe me a new pair of sandals you bitch.”

I stood up, towering over the two girls frowning, “Don’t call Kelse a bitch.”

The girl scoffed at my order, “Who the hell do you think you are??”

“Who do you think you are? I’m Carlos Martinez, I suggest you don’t make me mad.”

She stared at me, thinking, then held out her hand, “I am so sorry for any misunderstanding there was! She doesn’t have to buy me any new shoes, it’s okay. I hope you guys can forgive me!!”

I held her hand and shook it as she introduced herself, “I’m Maria Valquez. I’m staying at your most famous hotel, I hope you don’t hold any grudges and don’t kick me out of my room!”

I shrugged at her letting go of her hand, “Whatever, just make sure to stay extra long at my hotel.”

Maria smiled, “Of course..I should get going now, my sister is waiting for me.”

She looked at me and Kelsey up and down before waving and walking away.

I smiled at her figure, the alcohol obviously getting to me.

“I don’t like her Carlos, stay away from her,” Kelsey ordered.

“You were just telling me to find someone to marry, maybe this is her,” I said trying to make her jealous.

She crossed her arms looking away, “Not her, I meant someone else. She would use you, didn’t you see how she looked at you and treated us once she found out who you were??”

“Well yeah, but she was just showing respect. I bet she’s a good person.”

Kelsey turned to me and gripped my arms staring into my eyes seriously, “Please, just not her, anyone else but her Carlos.”

I sighed before nodding, not like I was going to try anything, I already like someone, I was just waiting until they noticed.

Craving

Kelsey crashed at my hotel suite that night. Luckily the suite had three bedrooms, so she wouldn't insist on sleeping on the couch.

“Kelse, I’m craving chocolate…” I said looking for money in the shoes by the door.

I looked through my legs while bending over peeking at Kelsey. She already passed out on the couch.

I walked over to her and placed my hand beside her trying to stay standing.

I ran my fingers through my hair pushing it out of my face, then slowly looked over her body. My eyes landed on her chest once again, the alcohol really stained my system.

I shook my head vigorously and picked her up bridal style.

I heard a few knocks on my door after tucking Kelsey into the bed of one of the guest bedrooms.

“Oh hey, Maria right?” I asked trying to seem chill.

“I just wanted to apologize again…”

My eyes widened slightly, “It’s fine really, you didn’t know who I was. People make mistakes all the ti-”

My words were muffled but Maria’s lips. She wrapped her arms around my neck and pressed her body against mine thristily.

Maybe this will make Kelsey jealous..then I could see if she liked me back!

I hurriedly wrapped my arms around her waist and followed her lead kissing her back.

She pushed me back into the hotel suite grinning. Then she stepped in the room and shut the door.

She lifted her hands up to my cheeks and stared into my eyes.

“Your brown eyes are so pretty,” she said lowering her voice to a sexier tone.

I smiled at her and leaned in kissing her.

A sliver of sunlight shone into my room waking me up at 9:00 am. I glared at my curtains I forgot to shut all the way.

I stretched out my arms sleepily and turned on my side yawning. I shut my eyes trying to fall back asleep, but the sunlight was too annoying.

I opened my eyes angrily, but then I flinched once I saw a woman lying next to me cuddling with her pillow.

I cleared my throat about to ask who she was, but then I closed my mouth, she was sleeping, it’d be rude to wake her.

What am I supposed to do? I don’t know how a one-night stand works..should I leave? But it’s my place....

I scratched my head confused as to what to do. I’ve never laid with anyone except my first girlfriend, and I did that to get back at Kelsey since she hit me.

I groaned confused, I wasn’t an asshole, if I didn’t at least make her food, then she would think I’m a jerk.

I slowly slid out from under the covers trying not to wake up the woman.

I sat down and pulled a pair of shorts and a shirt out from under my bed. Then tip-toed out of my room shutting the door quietly.

I sighed out of relief once I made it to the kitchen without waking the girl in my room or Kelsey.

She seemed familiar..who was she?

“Shit!” I yelled once a sharp pain hit my head, it felt as if a knife was in my skull.

I held my head in pain while searching for aspirin in my cupboards.

I pulled the bottom off of the shelf and opened it pouring a few in my mouth. I coughed since my throat was so dry.

Definitely time for coffee.

I grabbed my keys and walk out to the elevator.

My aching muscles lifting my hand up slowly to push the main level button.

The elevator stopped at floor three, another guy was getting on.

“Woah man, was she any good?”

I rub my eyes confused, “Excuse me?”

He nods his head to my neck, “If you have that many hickeys she must be freaky.”

I immediately covered my neck with my arm flustered.

That woman gave me hickeys?? Oh god, I hope she didn’t get hurt last night, I might’ve been harsh…

I cleared my throat trying to sound innocent, “Are you checking out?”

“Oh no, my mum just wanted to meet up for breakfast.”

“Here?” I asked.

He nodded.

I sighed rolling my eyes, nosy people are so annoying, but since he’s staying at my hotel it’s fine.

“Same.”

The man pulled out his phone and started scrolling.

Once the elevator opened to the main level I hurried past the lobby and into the dining area so I wouldn’t have to walk with that idiot.

“Boss? You never come down, you usually ask for room service.”

“So?..” I say irritated from everyone being so nosy.

“Oh nothing, I just didn’t know if it was a special occasion or anything…”

My eyes widen, I pull my employee Josh close gripping his shirt.

“Where’s Jorge??”

Josh started to sweat nervously, “U-Umm, he’s in the l-lobby…”

I turn around after grunting, then quickly grab two coffees and two cookies.

“Jorge!” I yell across the room.

He looks up from his desk searching around the room for me, then smiles once he spots me. I rushed over to him carefully trying not to spill the coffee.

“Yes boss?” he asked sweetly.

“What do you do when you have a one-night stand??”

He looks away for a second surprised by my question, then turns back to me and answers.

“Honestly boss, if she’s still there, do her again, then leave.”

I puff out my cheeks at his answer, was I supposed to do that? Did I mess up? Oh god what if she thinks I’m weird now??

“Is that coffee for her?” he asks.

I shake my head lying, “No, Kelsey stayed the night, I’m getting us some food.”

“Oh okay boss. Well have fun!” he waves as I walk away.

I stand in front of my door for a moment, preparing myself to be judged for getting the girl coffee and a cookie. What else was I supposed to do?? In the movies the girl wakes up first and leaves the guy behind, but I woke up first, and it was my suite…

I slowly open the door and walk back to my room with a smile.

I kicked open the door and yelled, “Morning my love!”

But the woman wasn’t there. I was kind of glad because what I said was totally embarrassing.

I sighed and walked into the kitchen, I’d never find out who she was now.

“Rise and shine player,” Kelsey yells walking into the kitchen.

I turn to her, “Morning beautiful.”

She rolls her eyes and sits down across from me. I slide the coffee to her and she takes it slugging it down.

“This was for her wasn’t it?” she asked.

I hesitantly nod, “Yeah…”

Kelsey leaned back relaxing in her seat, “Well you just missed her, I heard her slam your door and run out. Sad times.”

“Yeah, I even went down to get her a cookie too, to find out she already left.”

“Ouu a cookie?” Kelse said happily holding out her hand waiting for me to give it to her.

I smirked, “Only if you buy lunch.”

“Yeah whatever just give me the cookie,” she waved her hand impatiently.

I chuckled handing her the cookie. She snatched it away and ate it with only a few bites.

She held up a finger implying to give her a second. She gulped down the last of the cookie and cleared her throat.

“What was her name?” she asked tapping the side of her coffee.

I shrugged, “I can’t even remember what she looks like.”

Kelsey looked at me with her eyes wide before busting out of laughter.

“What’s so funny??”

She places her hand on her face laughing, “That’s the first thing you ask when you flirt with someone, stupid.”

My eyes widened, that was? Well how the hell was I supposed to know??

“Did you see her?” I asked leaning closer.

She calms down and leans forward too, “Nope.”

I gazed at her green eyes, they had a light brown spreading outwards meeting a light green, so mesmerizing.

She moved forward fast and hit my head with hers grinning.

I rubbed it pouting, “You ***, that hurt!”

She held up a peace sign smiling, “I know. Maybe that will knock some sense into you.”

I frowned, “You’re the one who told me to find a girl, now I have!”

She looked down at her coffee, “Not that one.”
