## Chapter 1: A Mistake by the Divine
---
The morning sun filtered through the luxurious drapes of a palatial bedroom, casting a golden glow on the intricately designed furniture. In the center of the room, nestled in a king-sized bed with silk sheets, lay a boy whose handsome face could have belonged to a celestial being. His name was Kaito Minamoto, the epitome of effortless charm and the heir to the most powerful and richest family in Japan.
Kaito had always led a life of ease and indulgence. His good looks and wealth attracted attention wherever he went, and he had grown accustomed to the adoration and envy of those around him. Yet, beneath his perfect exterior, Kaito was perpetually lazy, finding solace in doing nothing more strenuous than lifting a finger to command his servants.
"Master Kaito, it's time to wake up," a maid gently prodded, her voice soft yet firm. Kaito groaned, rolling over and pulling the sheets over his head.
"Five more minutes," he mumbled, but his reprieve was short-lived.
"Kaito, you're going to be late for your father's meeting," the maid insisted, tugging the sheets away. With a resigned sigh, Kaito sat up, his disheveled hair somehow still managing to look effortlessly stylish.
As he went through the motions of getting dressed, Kaito couldn't help but feel a strange tightness in his chest. Ignoring it, he joined his father in the opulent dining room, where a lavish breakfast spread awaited.
"Good morning, Kaito," his father greeted, barely glancing up from his newspaper. Kaito nodded, reaching for a piece of toast, but the tightness in his chest intensified. He felt his vision blur, the world around him spinning.
"Father..." Kaito gasped, clutching his chest. The last thing he saw before everything went black was his father's concerned face and the flurry of servants rushing toward him.
---
When Kaito opened his eyes again, he was no longer in his grand home. Instead, he found himself standing in an ethereal realm, surrounded by swirling mists and an overwhelming sense of tranquility. Before him stood a figure radiating a gentle, divine light.
"Welcome, Kaito Minamoto," the figure said, its voice soothing yet commanding. "I am the god who oversees the balance of life and death. It appears there has been a grave mistake."
Kaito blinked, trying to process his surroundings and the being before him. "A mistake?" he echoed, confusion evident in his tone.
"Indeed," the god replied, a touch of regret in its voice. "You were not meant to die. Your death was caused by an unforeseen error, and I must correct this."
Kaito's lazy demeanor surfaced even in the face of the divine. "So, what happens now?" he asked, stifling a yawn.
The god smiled benevolently. "You have the unique opportunity to choose your next life. You may write down your wishes, and I will grant them to the best of my ability."
A parchment and a quill appeared before Kaito, floating in the air. He reached out, taking them with an almost indifferent air. As he pondered his options, an idea struck him, one that perfectly aligned with his desire for a life of ease.
"Alright, I'll write my wish," Kaito said, a lazy smirk playing on his lips. He scribbled down his request, handed the parchment to the god, and waited.
The god glanced at the parchment, a flicker of surprise crossing its serene features. "Very well, Kaito. Your wish shall be granted."
---
Kaito felt a sudden pull, and before he knew it, he was enveloped in darkness. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a small, cozy room, vastly different from his previous life of luxury. The room was adorned with elegant furnishings, but it lacked the grandiosity of his family's mansion.
Sitting up, Kaito noticed a woman and a man standing by his bedside, their faces filled with joy and relief. "Welcome back, young master," the woman said, tears of happiness glistening in her eyes. "We were so worried about you."
"Where am I?" Kaito asked, his voice groggy.
The man smiled warmly. "You are in the manor of the noble House Laurent. You were reborn into this family, as per your wish."
Kaito blinked, trying to recall his wish. He had wanted to be a lazy snail, free from responsibilities and expectations. How had this happened?
The god's voice echoed in his mind, a hint of amusement in its tone. "It seems there was another soul who wished to be a lazy snail at the same time you did. As a result, you were sent to a noble family instead."
Kaito groaned inwardly. It appeared that even in death, his laziness had led to unexpected complications. Nevertheless, he resolved to make the best of his new life. After all, he was still a noble, and with that came privileges and comfort.
---
Days turned into weeks, and Kaito adapted to his new life as the young master of House Laurent. The Laurents were a respected noble family, known for their wealth and influence. Kaito's parents, Lord Alistair and Lady Isabella Laurent, doted on him, ensuring he lacked nothing.
Despite the change in setting, Kaito's lazy nature persisted. He spent his days lounging in the manor's gardens, reading books, and napping under the shade of ancient oak trees. His parents, grateful for his presence, indulged his every whim.
"Kaito, would you like to join us for the council meeting today?" Lord Alistair asked one morning, his eyes filled with pride. "It's important for you to learn about the responsibilities of our family."
Kaito stretched, stifling a yawn. "Perhaps another time, Father. I have some... important resting to do."
Lady Isabella chuckled, ruffling her son's hair affectionately. "You always were a dreamer, Kaito."
One afternoon, as Kaito reclined in a hammock strung between two trees, he couldn't help but reflect on his peculiar circumstances. He had been given a second chance at life, albeit not in the manner he had envisioned. Yet, in this new world, he had found a sense of peace and contentment.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the manor's gardens, Kaito realized that perhaps this life wasn't so bad after all. He may not have become the lazy snail he had wished for, but he had been reborn into a life of privilege and comfort.
And so, Kaito embraced his new existence, content to live each day with the same laziness that had defined his previous life. For in this world, he had everything he could ever want, and he had the god to thank for it.
As he drifted off to sleep, a smile played on his lips. Life, it seemed, had a funny way of granting wishes, even if they didn't turn out exactly as one had planned.
