To Be Mine

Prologue

I, male, was born into the Jin family, a powerful and wealthy family living in the suburbs of country S. My family owns an ammunition factory at the suburb in charge of supplying the government with weapons for the military and police forces.

Being the youngest in the family, I am practically the spoilt brat amongst my siblings. I have the leisure to do what I want with the support of my family. Because of me, on every festive occasion, my older siblings always return home. Meaning, I am the pillar of the family, without me nothing would be done.

Amongst my siblings, I am also the most strongheaded one, most intimidating to be precise. And because of that, my family especially older siblings do not want my identity to be exposed. Everyone knows my name but not my face - that makes it even more exciting. No matter what I do, my family’s name wouldn’t be dragged through the mud. Interesting. So fun.

Fast forward

On my 20th birthday, I received my first mission. I have been waiting for this day to come and finally, it was here. It is my family’s tradition to undertake a special mission outside our fort. Each and every one of my family did same except my grandmother and mother who were exempted because they married into the family.

If I were to have a sister, she would have had to undergo the same process. Sadly, I had none. I wished I had one every time I saw a little girl with her older siblings. Sickness took mother away from us two years ago. We were not prepared for her death. Grief overwhelmed us and took our happiness and joy with her. Father barely speak about her or reminisce about the past. He said it was unnecessary to mourn for the dead. They had lived their married life without regrets and one would die and leave the other anyway.

My mission is to infiltrate the life of the heir of Wang Corporation. Befriend him, find out his deepest secrets, and control his very existence. That is the only way to have a good relationship with him before I take over the company one day.

My siblings succeeded in their mission gaining an alliance with their targets. It is now my turn to do same. I need to succeed. No matter what. It is a life and death situation and I wasn’t ready to lose. All those years of training nonstop was about to yield tremendous results.

The day finally arrived for my mission to commence and that was when I received a shocking news.

“What in the world?”

I had just received a text from my father after he had secretly sent a scholarship application without my knowledge. He really decided to send me to school.

Does he not care about the students in the school or even the facilities? What if I blow it up? Who will be blamed? Definitely not me!

Scholarship

...Grand ceremony held by the ...

...Wang Corporation...

...10th September, 2024. 10:35am...

“Now, we’ll have the pioneer of this award ceremony to choose his candidate for the scholarship award.” The master of ceremonies says.

Wang Haoran, the old master of the Wang Corporation, also the grandfather of Wang Mu Lang, received a box containing the names of qualified candidates shortlisted by the committee after gaining massive entries.

“I have…..Lin Son Wu.” Wang Haoran reveals. The crowd applaud as they waited for the individual to make an appearance but he did not.

“It seems Lin Son Wu could not make it today.” The master of ceremonies says with a laugh.

Jin Long finally walks in and all eyes were on him. It has been a while since he made an appearance in public after the death of his beloved wife two years ago. Jin Long is the current president of the Jin Group and also the head of Jin family ammunition business. He has three sons including Jin Son Wu, the last son of the family. He had come to reveal the name of his awardee though the candidate did not qualify.

“Mr Wang Haoran, it’s been a while.” He gave him a handshake before asking for his approval to speak. Mr Wang Haoran nodded briefly.

“The name of my candidate is……..”, Jin Long took a moment to survey the crowd before continuing. “Sheng Yue,” he finally says.

He had come with Sheng Yue to the ceremony. She had no idea why he had asked for her assistance while at home. She never thought they would be coming to the ceremony nor did she think he would sponsor her education into the prestigious university of country S. The elite university full of elite students.

“Come.” He called out to her.

She shyly made her way to the front purposely avoiding any eye contact with the people present. She bowed down her head to avoid being photographed.

“Thank you, Old Master, for this amazing opportunity to offer assistance to great academia’s students who are struggling.” Jin Long expressed earning a satisfactory smile from Wang Haoran.

After this, both Jin Long and Sheng Yue left the ceremony. He only came to present his award to his chosen awardee. Sheng Yue said nothing but deep down she was wondering why her boss would do that for her.

“Father chose Sheng Yue as his candidate?” Jin Chen, the first son of Jin Long asked his assistant.

“Yes Sir.” The assistant responded.

“Did Son Wu say anything concerning that?” Jin Chen knows those two barely stay away from each other. It is quite not clear how his father was able to convince Sheng Yue without the interference of Son Wu.

“He is here.” The assistant softly says. Jin Chen smiles and shook his head. Bring him in. The assistant left the office to invite Son Wu to the brother’s office. Although many in the office did not know the relationship between them some spread rumours of them being in a relationship because of Jin Chen’s soft treatment to Son Wu.

Truly, the brothers of Son Wu treats him like they will treat a girl. Thus, the rumours were nothing but the truth. He was a girl in their eyes barely exposing his existence outside of the family. Only close relations know the last son of the Jin family.

“Honey!!” Son Wu happily yelled.

I’ll go with you

“Honey,” Son Wu dramatically yelled as he made his way towards his brother’s office.

“Aren’t you being a little too dramatic?” Jin Chen gave him a quick glance.

“ChenChen.”

Jin Chen paused.

“A-Son. Where have you been? How did father award his scholarship to Sheng Yue?” He questioned.

“I don’t know.” He crossed his legs. “You know father already. He doesn’t tell us what’s in his mind.” Jin Chen was ready to say something to me before Son Wu interrupted him again.

“Aha! Do you know the mission father has for me?” He quickly uncrossed his legs and drew closer to Chen’s seat. “Please, ChenChen. Tell me.” He pouted. Hearing his second younger brother call his name in a cutesy manner feels like a rumbling noise in his ears.

“I don’t want you to call me that.”

“Call you what? “ChenChen?”” He laughed. “But you like it when…….

He glared at him.

No one told him to shut up his mouth.

“I’ll speak to you at home. I’m busy now.” He calmly said to him.

“Alright then. I’ll make my way home.” He glanced at his brother hoping he ask him to stay but he didn’t. “You’re so boriiiiiiing.”

Jin Chen sighed after he went out of the door. He gazed at the picture on his desk. A smile forming on his lips. It was actually neither a smile nor a frown.

“I probably look weird now.” He picked up the picture closer to his eyesight. “When are you coming back?”

………….

“Sheng Yue. Where are you?” Son Wu yelled through the front door. She appeared in no time.

“Why are you making noise? Granny is sleeping.” She pulled him out of the house. They walked towards the garden, to their favourite hiding spot, which was no longer a secret place.

“Now. Tell me. What’s wrong?” She crosses her arms, demanding for an answer.

“You don’t have to stand like that. Just sit down.” He pulled her arms out and forced her to sit. He then turned to her with a smile on his face. “Sheng Yue,” he was still smiling, making it more creepy than it actually was.

“Son Wu. Your smile. Are you trying to prank me?” She began to look around. “Are you hiding something?” She was alerted. He sighed.

“Why didn’t you tell me father was sending you to the prestigious university?” He frowned. Sheng Yue felt a bit embarrassed that her friend’s father was funding her education. She hoped he wouldn’t talk about it but luck was not on her side.

“I don’t know.” She bowed her head, fidgeting with her hands.

“If you’re going then I’m going too.” He casually said. She light up. The curves of her lips curled upwards into a big smile. The excitement bubbling inside her expressing this moment through her eyes. She hugged him. A tight hug. He didn’t want to let go. He smiled.

“Are you sure?” She was overly excited. She didn’t know how to control herself and Son Wu was also not giving her the chance to calm herself down. He expressed the same excitement.
