"Yazhu! Yazhu!! This is not the time to fall asleep!" Mo Yazhu felt a painful headache as her manager tried to wake her up. She opened her eyes and the light attacked her eyes. She squinted as she looked to the side to see her younger version of her manager. She was plump and her eyes were mature and youthful. Nothing like what she had remembered. "Wei Meng?" "Hm?" Wei Meng looked at Mo Yazhu confused. "Is something wrong? We're leaving in five minutes." Mo Yazhu looked around herself and felt a sense of deja vu. She walked in the mirror in front of hier and her heart went cold. She did not need to see the date to know what day this was. The conformation of her success and the start of her tragedy. She looked at the elegant blue dress that hung nimbly on herself and frowned. She recalled just the trouble this little dress would cause and looked at her manager seriously. "Can I change my dress?" Mo Yazhu heard her own voice and was startled. So much changed in the span of eight years.
Wei meng was startled by her request and said. "We don't have much time. We can't change now." Wei meng's worry was warranted but Mo Yazhu gave a weird smile. "Don't worry. It'll be fine." Mo yazhu picked up a dress she had rejected earlier and put in on. She soon came out of the dressing room and shooed all the makeup artists and started putting on something different. The makeup artists looked worriedly at Wei meng but she didn't know what to do either. Something was clearly up with Mo Yazhu but she didn't have the time to ask. After a few minutes, Mo Yazhu said she was done and started making her way outside making Wei meng run after her. They entered the car and the car started moving in silence. After those few minutes did Mo Yazhu finally feel like she was thinking clearly. She looked out the window and everything was exactly the way it was that evening. She thought back to the night she won her first best actress award.
She went home with two awards that day. One for best actress, and another for best supporting actress. That blue dress was something that had being gifted to her from 'bestie', Chang shuren. She took that dress as a gift and she still had even until the day she died. Until she saw herself in the mirror did she think that maybe that dress was meant for what it was supposed to and did. The night went perfect as she brought home her awards. The next day, the dress and nature of it sparked controversy and hate however at the time, most people were on her side. Not until she was nearing the end of her career and life did someone bring such a thing up and it destroyed the last bit of respect and trust the public had for her. She was lost in thought until a monochrome voice woke her up. "We're here." She looked forward at the flashing blinding lights and sighed before she made her way out the car.
Chang shuren was standing simply at the door while looking on her phone. She wasn't a nominee for the event so a lot of the cameras simply looked away from her. However some cameras still looked her way and took pictures simply because of the aura she gave herself. She was wearing a dark maroon V-neck dress with a black jacket draped over her shoulder. Her look prioritized elegance and mystique to appeal to the cameras and it did just that. But then the cameras started flashing crazily making her look up. She looked and Mo Yazhu in a beige off the shoulder dress and gritted her teeth in annoyance. "Damn it Yazhu! I'm supposed to be the mature one. What is she doing?!"
Chang shuren gritted her teeth in silence before swallowing it up and walking towards Mo Yazhu. Mo Yazhu was focused on the bright blinding lights of the camera that she hasn't seen for so long. Chang shuren walked up to her with a smile wanting to hold her hand however Mo Yazhu reacted as though she had touched acid and instinctively pulled away. She quickly walked away leaving behind a confused Chang shuren. She entered the venue that was filled with people and found her seat in the front row. She sat down, quickly arranging her thoughts and breathing. Then she heard someone chuckle beside her. She turned her head and was surprised. "Huang jun?" "Hm?" The man in front of her raised his brow and smirked at her. "Why do you look so serious? It's not the hunger games."
Mo Yazhu looked at the carefree expression of the man in front of herself and recalled the hurt look he gave her the last day they saw each other. She remembered him clearly saying " I used to know a smart Yazhu but you've thrown all your wisdom down the drain." She used to think those words were purely to take a jab at her but she now realized how right he was.
She closed her eyes and sunk into her chair. "Are you okay?" Huang jun asked as he brought his phone. He obviously thought she was worried about the nominations. "Listen, you don't have much to be worried about. It's either you win or lose. Besides you got two fucking nominations. Relax." She sighed and looked at his familiar yet somehow distant face. She gave a small smile reassuring herself that she would make sure she treasured her relationship. Huang jun didn't notice her change of expression and opened up. "Baby stand up, I wanna take a photo of you." "Hm? Why?" She looked at him confused. "Because hey, even if you don't win, you'd still look good." She laughed out loud and stood up straight her dress in full view. He took a few photos of them both promising to post them on the internet.
After a while, the event started and the hall lit up. Mo Yazhu watched as everything happened exactly like in her memory. The best director, the best screenplay, the best set and Huang jun winning the best male supporting character in a movie. The she payed extra attention to narrator as her spoke. "These are the nominees for the best female supporting character in a movie." She listened as the narrator said her name along with four other actresses. He said their names along with the movie they were nominated from. Everything was exactly as she remembered. Then a thin air hung amongst the nominees as the camera zoomed on their faces and the narrator slowly opened the envelope. Her name was said and she made her way to podium. She gave a small but sincere sounding speech and made her way to her seat earning a thumbs up from Huang Jun.She smiled simply at him. She knew the night wasn't over for her at all.
Then it was time to announce the best actor. "The winner of this year's Best male lead award is... Shen hua!" The narrator spoke enthusiastically. The band played for a while but no one came up to receive the award. "Um... Shen hua?" The narrator asked as the camera moved around to look for him.
Mo Yazhu was confused. This didn't happen in her past life. Was she rewriting history and if so, why Shen hua? She never met him in this life or the last. She didn't see why she would affect his history as well. Just as she thought, the hall became filled with incomprehensible murmurs. The narrator coughed awkwardly as she put down the award. "It seems our award winner isn't here. He'll get his another time."
The narrator quickly finished her speech and then brought out the award for best female lead. Mo Yazhu's breath hitched in her throat along with the other Actresses.
Chang shuren held her breath praying that it would be anyone but Mo Yazhu. How embarrassing would it be if her best friend won two important awards and she wasn't even nominated! Her hands were clasped together along with Mo Yazhu and the other actresses there. The narrator opened the envelope and smiled to herself. "The winner of this year's best female lead is..." The camera zoomed in on the actresses faces. They tried to look as relaxed as possible but the camera captured their nervousness. "The winner of this year's best female lead is... Mo Yazhu!"
Mo Yazhu sighed in her heart as Chang shuren's face paled. Luckily she wouldn't look out of place because other people were just as shocked as her. The event eventually ended and the place was even more full with reporters than earlier. Chang shuren tried looking for Mo Yazhu afterall, she was the reason she could come to such a prestigious event in the first place. She entered the crowd and was immediately pushed about by the group of people. She was not a nominee of the event and she wasn't with any of them either so not much of the pushing crowd cared to know she was. A camera was pointed at Liao yaling, a senior actress. She would be considered a veteran because of how long she had been in the industry despite her being not really young. A reporter put his mic in front of her face asking "Miss liao, how does it feel that you were beaten by a newbie?" Mo Yazhu came out just then and overheard the reporter.
Although Mo Yazhu hadn't been in the industry for as long as Liao yaling, she wouldn't be considered new. If she had to count from this timeline, she would've been in the industry for up to or more than two years. Winning such an award was still too impressive regardless but not a lot of people could say she didn't deserve it. A lot of people had been watching and supporting her progress since she debuted. One of those people was Liao yaling.
She flashed a smile at Mo Yazhu and spoke in a respectful manner., "There's a lot of young promising talents in the field now. Us old cows can't keep the meadow forever." Liao yaling wasn't old but it was clear she wanted to protect Mo Yazhu. Other directors and senior actors also praised Mo Yazhu in front of the camera. Her competition were either too tired, annoyed or embarrassed to talk much so they all left quickly. This was the beginning of her fame!
Chang shuren had sprained her ankle amongst the crowd and she hung on to a tree for support as she looked at Mo Yazhu indignantly. After thanking and giving a small speech to the crowd, Mo Yazhu entered her car. Chang shuren glared at her and their eyes met. Chang shuren felt like she was being looked down at with disgust and...hatred?" Soon the car closed up and she couldn't fully grasp the feeling. Chang shuren was not dumb. She could obviously tell something was wrong with Mo Yazhu but she couldn't tell what. Her heart felt panicked and she made a call to someone who might understand....Mo liuxian, Mo Yazhu's half sister.
In the deep night, a black car drove slowly on the road. Inside was Liao yaling giggling and fiddling with her nails. The person on the line seemed to cringe from her voice. "What did you call me for?" A deep uninterested voice rang from the other end. "I wanted to share some spoils." "Okay,I'm hanging up." The other party sounded annoyed. "Wait! I'm trying to help you! Guess who won best female lead?" "Did you call me to brag?" "No. Her name's a little Mo.....
