Shao Sangxiao jogged down the road in the darkness of the early morning. She was slender and tall, with a young, charming face and long, brownish-black hair down to her waist. She stopped and glanced at her watch, then took a drink of water. Her phone sounded, and she looked at it. It was her brother.

" Are you finished? I'll start making breakfast now. Food must be eaten hot!"

She smiled tenderly at the message. Ever since their parents had died in an accident when she was fifteen, her brother had worked hard to pay for her studies and the rent for their house. He had worked at all kinds of odd jobs, and often came back late and exhausted. Now, even though they still had a tight budget, they were considerably more well off compared to then, which was 7 years ago. Her brother had opened a woodcarving shop, and even though it wasn't bringing in much profit, Xuekai continued running it because it was his dream to popularize wood carving in their country, Zhenzhu.

As for Sangxiao, she hadn't found a job since she graduated from university a year ago. Not that she was picky, but somehow nobody seemed to want to hire a newly graduated girl just yet. Even though getting a job wasn't particularly essential for the time being, Sangxiao felt a little guilty for depending on her brother for living expenses, especially as she was no longer studying. She sighed, then jogged back to her apartment.

A delicious smell came from the kitchen the moment Sangxiao opened the door. Her brother Xuekai emerged from the kitchen with two big bowls of streaming hot porridge, topped with a century egg and fried dough sticks.

" You're back! Come and taste your brother's world-famous, most delicious century egg porridge, specially for our beloved Sangsang!"

" Brother, you're exaggerating," said Sangxiao, flopping down on her stool. " If your porridge was that good, I would have gotten a sister-in-law long ago."

" Hmph! The reason that I don't have a girlfriend yet is because I'm worried you will be jealous!" retorted Xuekai crossly. " Besides, I only make porridge for you alone, so no girl has been able to be entranced by my culinary skills!"

" Whatever," said Sangxiao, coquettishly sulking with her arms crossed.

" Honestly! Your brother loves and pampers you so much he can't pay attention to other girls! " said Xuekai, proceeding to dig into the porridge. " Whoa! This porridge is so warm and tasty! It makes one instantly refreshed when eaten!"

Sangxiao rolled her eyes in amusement. "Self praise is no praise. Also, you don't need to try to tempt me to eat it up. I'll finish it all to give you face."

Xuekai immediately retorted," Hey! You make it sound like my porridge is so terrible! "

" Okay okay, I'll stop teasing you now, " laughed Sangxiao as she picked up her spoon. Xuekai grinned at her, and the two of them finished their morning meal in peace.

After waiting for her brother to finish work, Sangxiao and Xuekai went to a hotpot restaurant for dinner. When they came out, very satisfied with their meal, they noticed a flea market some distance away from them.

Xuekai saw his younger sister gaze at it, and let out a playful sigh.

" Looks like someone wants to explore around," he remarked.

Sangxiao replied playfully," Big brother knows me the best! "

Xuekai laughed and said, " No need to act cute. You've already gotten what you want, right? Come, I'll accompany you."

" Hooray! "

As they crossed the road, a car suddenly appeared, driving dangerously fast towards them. Sangxiao immediately yelled, " Big Brother, careful! "

Xuekai, seeing what was going to happen, tried to push Sangxiao away, but he was too late. The car crashed into them with full speed, hurling them into the air.

As they smashed onto the asphalt road, pools of blood began to form from under their bodies. With their remaining consciousness, they managed to call out to one another.

" Big brother.... "

" Sangsang....."

" Don't go....."

3 days later, in a hospital in Kaifeng.

The sun was gently shining onto one of the beds in Xile Hospital. Lying on it was a young girl. The plaque above the bed read, " Shao Sangxiao, 22 years old, admitted on May 21. " The girl was frowning heavily in her sleep, and she kept muttering something with uneasiness.

" Gege...."

" Gege..... don't go....."

" Gege! "

With a start, Sangxiao woke up. Her forehead was secured in sweat, owing to her nervousness from her nightmare. Her eyes were wide open, with a hint of anxiousness in them. She was breathing heavily, feeling confused and uneasy. Where was she? Where was her brother? Was he alright? Or.... Had something happened?

The door was pushed open, and a nurse walked in. Sangxiao immediately asked her, " Nurse, where am I? Do you know what happened to my brother? His name is Shao Xuekai, and...."

" Miss Shao, don't worry. You're now in Xile Hospital after you and your brother were included in a hit-and-run incident. The driver was drunk, and he has been caught and taken to the police station. As for your brother, Miss Shao, you don't need to worry about that either. He is fine, and has awakened yesterday. He is now undergoing a medical checkup to make sure that he has no hidden injuries. "

" Oh, I see. Thank you, " said Sangxiao, still rather in a daze. The nurse, after doing some basic checking up, left, and Sangxiao was left to herself. She slumped on the bed, thinking. She was glad that Gege was alright, but why did she feel.....a little strange? As if her whole body was different?

Without warning, an image appeared in her mind. Countless golden stands of light wove together against a dark background, eventually becoming shapes of a person. That person performed countless actions, seemingly by supernatural means. Then, all of a sudden, the image was gone, and Sangxiao returned to her senses.

" What was that? " she pondered. " Why did that image appear in my mind like that? " She sat still for a long time with her eyes slightly closed.

After some time, her eyes slowly widened.

" Could it be....that I have become like the characters in the novels......"

She stretched her hand towards the cabinet. On it was a vase full of flowers. She gestured towards it, and a daisy flew out and landed gently on the palm of her hand.

Sangxiao had never been one to believe in fantasy or powers, but now her brain felt like blowing up with the discovery she had just made.

" I.....have supernatural powers?!! "

" Thank you, Dr. Li," said Xuekai, as he wheeled himself out of the examination room.

" No problem! Actually, it's the first time I've seen a patient like you and your sister. From the reports and the surveillance tape that I received, both of you seemed to have severe injuries and would face possible surgery. But when you were transferred here from Kaifeng General Hospital, you were absolutely fine, with just minor cuts and bruises! The only thing was that both of you had a concussion, causing you to faint for a few days, but other than that you were in good condition. What a miracle!"

" Hehe....ya.... there must have been some sort of mistake," mumbled Xuekai rather awkwardly.

" Perhaps there is. We shall have to look into it," remarked Doctor Li. "Well, I have other patients to see to, so I'll be going now."

"Alright Doctor Li, thank you."

As the doctor and his assistant went down the hallway and disappeared from sight, Xuekai let out a long sigh.

" Fine miracle that was. If I still had those injuries after getting this mysterious powers, that would be a miracle!"

Xuekai then wheeled his wheelchair, which actually was only needed because he had sprained his ankle, and went in the direction of the women's ward.

" Eh, you are Miss Shao's brother, right? She has just woken up, and is now eating some fruits. You may go to visit her," one of the nurses called out.

" Really? That's good! Which bed is she occupying?"

" Her bed is number 6, at the end of room 2," replied the nurse.

" Okay, thank you, " said Xuekai, going in eagerly.

As soon as he was gone, the nurses gathered around excitedly.

" Eh, Xiaoli, why were you so efficient in remembering that Miss Shao's brother?"

"That's true! Although he seems to also be a patient here, but he's in the men's ward, so you couldn't possibly know him!"the other nurses remarked.

Xiaoli replied, "That is not just any Miss Shao! Didn't you hear that two patients in severe condition were transferred here from Kaifeng General Hospital? The doctors said that by the reports, there was a possibility they would enter a vegetative state. But upon arriving, they found out that those two were only lightly injured, when they supposedly left KGH in a bad state!"

"Huh?! That's impossible!"

"It's true! I overheard the doctors in charge talking about it. They said that they had done many examinations, yet everything came out fine. Their most severe condition was their concussion, but even that wasn't bad."

"Incredible. What have they done to get such good fortune?"

" They must have done many good things in their last life! "

In the ward.

Sangxiao looked anxiously at her brother.

"Gege, are you really okay?"

"I'm really okay. Even the doctor was astonished. You were also injured severely, yet you look and feel good too, right?" said Xuekai, trying to appease Sangxiao.

Sangxiao breathed a sigh of relief, then tentatively asked, " Gege, does your body feel, well, different? "

Xuekai groaned in exasperation. " Sangsang, how many times do I have to tell you I'm- "

" I didn't mean that," retorted Sangxiao indignantly. "What I mean is - do you have some kind of supernatural abilities?"

Xuekai promptly choked on his water, spraying water everywhere.

"No way....... you too?!! "
