31St: Jaimee

Prologue

There's heat, everywhere. Burning buildings, shattered blocks, wounded people. I hear battle cries from outside the arena. Cries that meant helpless bystanders. I can feel it, I can hear it, I want to help but I didn't want innocent lives at stake. As long as this objective of mine - destroy Eve - isn't complete, no one's safe. There's this girl - a familiar face, yet every memory of her seems so foggy - keeping me from my goal.

My memories are slowly but surely fading away, the more I use these much power, the more likely I'll lose myself to the monster - eating its way out. I knew well that owning this much abilities would have its drawbacks, I just wasn't sure what kind of abilities I poses. Whatever these were, I will give it my all to achieve my sole purpose.

"Alison..."

There's this faint voice echoing. Calling out, I'm just not sure to whom.

"Alison..!"

There it is again. Calling out louder. I, then, notice the girl calling out to me. Alison... Is that my name..?

"Alison! Snap out of it!" She called out as she dodges the boulder, just in time before it crashed at her.

Snap out of what..? I wonder, but that's when I came into realization that the mark on my arm's blinking in random colours, continuously.

I wonder what this girl's name is and who she is. She seems exhausted... How long have we been in battle against each other..? I'm getting tired with all this conflict. I start to descend, I've been levitating for a while, and using this much, tires me down. We were both breathing heavily, I don't even remember what I was doing.

The girl approachs me with both arms stretched out with caution, "Alison. Calm down."

As soon as I landed, I sensed something - something suspicious - and acted reflexively. I levitated a couple of bricks and swinging them randomly towards the girl and to my rear, as I flew upwards. The girl barely dodges those heading toward her, while the other, a guy, slowed some of them down and ran past it.

It made me furious, but I don't feel any danger on them. Rather, I felt danger behind them. I clunch my right hand into a fist, focusing most of my energy on it and plunged towards my target. And a split second before I landed, something - or someone - tackled me. Making us both crash into a wrecked building.

My vision starts to get blury, I saw a faint shadow from the distance, slowly approaching me. I barely had any energy left, but I still forced my way up. My body feels heavy, and once I looked again toward the figure, it grasp its arms around me, holding me close.

"Alison..." I hear a voice - a soothing voice, lulling me, "its okay... Calm down..."

My surroundings were getting dimmer. I fight the urge to lose consciousness, I'm afraid that something might happen if I give in now. I feel my adrenaline kick up high, again. Wanting to break free.

"Shhhh..." the voice said, again, hugging me more tightly. "Calm down..."

It makes me feel safe and secure. My consciousness is slowly drifting away. Then I heard footsteps, running towards us, another voice echoing in the distance.

"Crayton..."

Crayton..?

Crayton... Why does that ring a bell? Its like something - or someone - that's important to me. Something - or someone - that I care about the most. But... Why can't I remember..? Why did I have to forget..?

Jaimee

Beep

Beep

Beep

I wake up at the beeping sound of a red lit room and a steel bed. Standing up, I had this unsteady feeling. My legs wobbly as I take some steps, but the longer I walk around the better I walk. Looking around this 4x4 room which fitted a bed at the far end and a little space to roam around, there's something under the bed that caught my eye.

A bag?

A box?

As I kneal under the bed and pull it out. There's a set: black shirt with a small red mark on the front-top-left corner - placed on the heart, blue pair of jeans, and black leather jacket on top. Underneath the pile of clothes, is a bag. Inside: a few canned foods, a couple of bottled waters, an extra set of clothes.

I grab the pile of clothes on the bag, wearing the pants on first. Putting on the shirt made me catch a glimpse at a red glow on my arm.

A mark.

I never knew I got a tattoo before? Did I?

Thinking back made me realize, I don't even know who I am. I felt a rush flowing in me, making me breathe heavily.

Calm down. I tell myself. Breathing in and out, three times. As my body calmed down, I try to remember who I am. And one thing registered in my mind.

Jaimee.

That's my name.

What now? What am I doing here? Was I imprisoned?

'Hello...? Hello? Are you awake?' Before I can ask myself any further questions, a voice echoed through my ears. A girl. Was I turning insane? I must be hallucinating.

'Hey, I know you're there, awake, alive. You're not insane and you most definately ain't hallucinating. So talk to me.'

This voice gives me chills doen my spine. But I respond, 'Ahm... Okay... Who are you..? Where am I..? And... WHY THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING IN MY MIND?!'

'Woah there, tiger. Chillax, I'm gonna get you out of there, but I need you to cooperate. As for your other questions, I'll answer them as soon as we get out of here.'

Somehow, for some reasons, she seems to try to sound calm about it. But I said, 'okay, what am I gonna do now?'

'What's in the room?'

'Well... A bed, a bag with stuff in it, a set of clothes...'

'Do you see the exit?'

'Yes. But it's close.'

'Okay. I need you to stand back, far from the exit as possible. And find cover.'

I grab the bag and move to the far corner of the room. Lifting the bed sidewards to make cover. Soon, the door budged open with a hard thud. Then a silver-haired girl appeared, snatching my hand and pulling me out the room to a hallway. Turning from one corner to the next.

I kept hearing screams and splashes near us, but she turns corners like she knew the place well.

After a couple more turns, we were both breathing heavily. Although I bend and grabbed my leg for support while gasping for air, she still looks alert, as if some kind of ambush will happen if she doesn't.

To break the silence, I ask, "So... Wh-" She swiftly cup her hand on my mouth while signalling me to be quiet.

'Talk in your mind. We don't want any klinkers to hear us and track us down.'

'Klinkers? What's that? And who are you?'

'The name's Azriel, but you can call me Az. Welcome to the world of survival.' She said it so serious that I was going to believe her, but then she flashed a smile and started giggling. 'Just kidding. This is what you would call a maze, and those Klinkers are what's going to prevent us from getting out of here. The sooner we find the exit the better. You with me, Jaimee?'

'H-how'd you know my name...?'

'Oh, haven't I mention..? I'm telepathic, and I heard you saying you name before I came barging in.'

Stunned. 'Oh, okay.' Was all I can say.

She clips her finger into mine and pulls me to a walk. 'By the way, what colour are you?'

I look at her, curiously. But the silence made her realize why.

'The mark on you arm. Its glow tells what colour you are.'

That made me recall the colour of the glow I saw when I was dressing up. But finally I said, 'red.'

'Awesome! What's you're specialty? Super strength? Super speed? Super..?'

The silence made her realize that I still don't know what she's talking about. Then her grip around my finger got tighter and she went to a halt. I did, too.

Klink...

When I heard the klinking, my heart raced in fear. It made me uncomfortable standing at the middle of the nowhere. Not knowing what's out there, makes it much worse.

Klink

The sound got louder as the long as the klicking went on. I kept shifting, looking front and back. As louder as it gets, it makes my adrenaline pump up. But then, the sound stop. And the place went dead silent.

A few moments later, the walls shifted and we were greeted by a back of huge blob-like creature with metals covering its body. It was munching on something. The hall was too dark to clearly see what it was.

I was about to gasp but Azriel quickly cups my mouth again. Pushing me backwards, slowly and carefully. A few more steps and I stepped onto something slimy making me slip and crash down hard.

The blob froze. Azriel hurriedly pulls me up, grabs my wrist and ran the opposite direction.

Klink...

Klink...

Klink

Klink klink klink

The further we ran the faster the klinking. And when I took a short glance at my back, there it was - chasing after us. With one great charge, it leaped above us and crashed, shifting itself to face us. But Azriel turns a corner and dashes, still grabbing my wrist.

At the far end, the right wall started to crumple and.. Fly..? Towards the blob, striking it straight at its middle. It let out a loud squeak, loud enough to make us deaf. Azriel doesn't seem to be affected by the noise, she turned, grabbing me again and ran.

"What... was... that...?" I said in between pants.

'Klinker. Just keep running. It'll stay at our tails until it catches us. We have to lose it. And fast!'

Klink...

Klink klink

Klink klink klink klink

That sound made me more anxious, making my adrenaline pump up that I thought my heart would explode.

I snatch my hand from Azriels grasp and turn to face the klinker. It crash onto the far end as it made its turn but quickly got grip of the floor and ran towards us. Azriel grabs my wrist, again. But I swift snatch it back, running towards the klinker. Making a leap to the wall on my left, kicking it, throwing myself to the klicker, it kept running to Azriel but suddenly stopped when it heard the wall crumble. Moving its head toward me.

And there I noticed, it has no eyes, no nose, and small ears. It began to open its mouth but a ball-crumbled steel shot in its mouth making it unable to close its mouth. Clunching my hand to a fist, I focused my energy into this one shot. Hitting the steel in its mouth, and the steel went through its head.

As I landed to the ground. The blob splashed and melted to the ground. I lost balance, but before I could hit floor, Azriel caught me, helping me as we walk away from the blob. Seeking for shelter.

Alison

Walking through the dark alley, we (Crayton, Felicity, Artemis, and myself) search for newly awaken mazeborns. Hoping, at least, we rescue some, rather than none at all. I've heard stories, rumors, about this place. Klinkers - random looking vicious monsters created to not make anyone in or out this maze - that appear out of nowhere, walls shifting - sometimes, even barely knowing what's on the other side - from time to time.

Crayton, is like my poker-face-type of a big brother. He makes sure I'm safe, no matter the circumstances. Keeps me hidden because of my colour. He's been with me even before I met Felicity and Artemis. He's a green. I'm not really sure what his specialty is...

Felicity, an elder-like sister of mine that teases everyone she gets comfortable with and likes tugging on anyone she gets too close with. She makes sure any newbie would never feel out of place, no matter how random she gets. She's a red, strength is her specialty.

Artemis, the strict kind of brother anyone would ever have. He makes sure everything goes according to plan, everyone does what they're suppose to do. He may be strict but he's caring and kind. He even have a soothing voice that makes you feel safe. He's a blue, his specialty? Ally enhancement: he enhances any specialty anyone has.

Me, Alison. I'm a pink, a rare colour that barely ever survives. Many would call me freak, outcast, abnormal, alien.. and many other names. I was forced to live in secrecy, Crayton as my big brother. He would hide me from any danger. Ever since I was being called names and I never met a pink, I don't even know what pinks are like, what my specialty is... Not since my first-hand experience, a long time ago, which made me learn to hide the glow of my mark.

I don't even know how long we've been strolling around these alleys, that I started to trudge unconsciously. Felicity - wearing red shirt and blue jeans - has been teasing Artemis randomly from time to time, while Crayton - wearing a green shirt and black pants - keeps a watch around us incase something appears. Artemis - wearing blue shirt and black pants - has been guiding us towards the cells where they held the newly awaken mazeborns.

"It should be around here somewhere..." Artemis said, looking at his map.

"I get the feeling that we've been walking in circles." Felicity complained.

"We'll fine what we're looking for, just stay alert." He commanded.

"You're not the boss of me." Felicity snorted.

"Yo, you okay?" Knocking me back to my senses, I realized that Felicity had been loitering to match my pace.

"Yes, everything's cool." Was all I could think of saying.

Poke

I realized that Crayton slowed down to match my pace. Poking me by the arm and asking, "you sure?"

I look at him, "yeah."

He looks at me, examining me.

"What...?" Asking him anxiously.

He looks at me, sternly, with his deep brown eyes making my skin crawl. I hate it when he does that. When I can't take the tension, so I mumble under my breathe and say, "..just a little tired.."

He sighed and went to Artemis and whispers something to him. Then they both stopped and turned to face us.

Artemis says, "okay, we've been wandering around this place for a while now. Let's take a quick break, but stay alert. We don't know when an enemy will appear. Everyone, got it?"

"Finally!" Felicity exhaled, as if she were too tired.

Felicity jumps in excitement tapping rapidly on me then runs towards Artemis, tackling him. I walk towards the wall and sat against it, pulling my knees to my chest and resting my head on it, making my hair fall to cover my face. Crayton sits beside me and places his arm around me, while his other hand brushes off my hair from my face. I hear Felicity's clattering and Artemis growling at her.

"You're too focused since we got here. Chillax a bit, would ya?" Felicity said.

"Something can happen anytime, especially here, in the maze." Artemis argued.

"He's right." Crayton agreed.

"She alright?" I hear Artemis ask, once he was close to us.

"She's a bit warm but she'll be fine." Crayton said, solemnly, but with worry hidden in it. So that the others won't have to worry about it.

"Ok, breaks done, lets go." Artemis commanded.

"Awww..." Felicity complained. "Done already? But we just stopped..."

"We're here for a mission, not just slacking around." Artemis said, walking away.

I stood up, exhaling heavily as I follow Artemis.

"Who made him in-charge?" Felicity said, moping.

Artemis turned just to give Felicity a stern glare. Making Felicity flinch as she exchanged glare with Artemis, sticking her tongue out at him.

I flinched, feeling something at the other side of the wall. Walking towards the wall, it bend just inches before me with a thud.

"Alis-" Felicity called out.

I shot my head up towards them. Felicity looked surprised. Artemis had his arm out trying to reach me. Crayton glowed green, artering his speed just fast enough to be able to push me away from the wall, tackling me.

CREAK

The wall starts to shrink, squeaking. Then the wall blasts its way straight ahead. Two girls and a guy appeared from where the wall was once placed.
