“Hikari-san… Hikari… wake up… we’re here-…” My younger sister, Haruka said to me while I was sleeping through the road trip.

Summer has come, so me and my family went on a vacation… In the woods… Yep, that’s right… The forest woods. Strange isn’t it? It’s Summer, we should be hanging around the beach, am I right? But no, instead we went to a place where a lots of trees are standing. It’s not that I hate the woods, it’s just not fit for the season.

Arriving at the house my parents rented, my siblings and I picked up the baggages and sent it inside of the house.

“Hikari, here’s your suitcase” My younger brother said to me as he gives me my suitcase.

“Thanks, Tenya!”

After my lil bro gave me my baggage, I went to see what’s upstairs and decided to pick a room.

As I got to the second floor, I already see someone at the room on the left. It was Haruka.

“Hmm? You have already chosen a room, huh?”

I asked her.

“Well, there’s only 2 rooms, one is a master bedroom, assuming it’s size, that would of course be mother’s and father’s room. Automatically, this would be our room, wouldn’t it?”

She replied.

“You really are smart, Ruka”

I said as I smiled at her.

“Would you quit calling me that-…”

“Oh, come on! It’s cute, right?”

She just ignored me and continued to pack up her things.

I just did the same thing, anyways.

(1 Hour later)

“Good Grief… That was a lot of work, huh…” Getting a little tired, I went outside the house to get some fresh air.

“Wow, the sun is really bright today… oh well, that gave me a ton of energy.”

“Hey, mom! I’ll just be strolling around, okay?” I asked, shouting.

“Alright! Make sure to come back before dinner, ok?” My mom shouted back.

“Yeah!” I said as I started walking.

I just wandered around the woods, searching if something might get my interest.

As I walk, I saw a sign interpreting a danger part of the forest; and of course, that caught my attention. I continued to walk through that direction.

Minutes later, I didn’t saw or felt anything dangerous in this portion of the forest. It seemed like that sign was a prank, to be honest. Nothing happened to me, even bugs aren’t even at my sight. “Wait- a minute..” I gasped. The fact that bugs aren’t even around is already mysterious. Getting my suspicions higher, I still continued to walk and might’ve already forgotten how to come back… Until I saw a cave…

“A cave?.. this is unsettling..”

I entered the cave and felt a little more uneasy.

I kept on looking around as I walk, figuring something might happen. I wasn’t scared but I wasn’t happy or that excited either-… I like this kind of stuff, but then again, this is reality… I might die, to conclude.

Minutes have passed again, and it’s getting a little darker to the point where the light I came from is slowly out of my sight. I kind of wanna go back at the moment, not until… I saw someone… on the ground… laying…

I quickly went to him and checked if he’s dead, okay or still breathing. He was still breathing but unconscious. As I checked him further, I saw he was holding a bag. I took and looked at it. There was a yellow gem inside… shining so brightly as I hold onto it.

While still amused by the gem, someone came from behind and as I turn around… I was completely knocked out.

The next thing I knew… I was laying in my bed. As I woke up, I felt hazy and dizziness. I slowly opened my eyes, still unable to remember anything… until something shined from my neck. I couldn’t see what it is, so I looked in the mirror and remembered everything.

“This is-…” I said as my eyes widened, shocked by the gem in my neck.

Still speechless, I just looked myself in the mirror wearing the gem as a necklace. Although there wasn’t a piece of string, cloth or anything that could hold the gem as a neckline when I first saw it in the bag. That fact alone made me confused… but there’s more to it. Why do I have the gem..? I don’t remember placing it nor making it as a necklace… The last thing I knew was when I got knocked out…

“Wait-… that boy-…” I said as I realized something.

My guess was that the one who knocked me out… was the boy laying in the cave… gave me the gem and brought me here…

I quickly ran downstairs and asked my family…

“Hey everyone! How did I end up in the house? Wasn’t I traveling in the woods?” I asked them.

“Well-… you were brought here by-…” My mom said until…

“By a guy with a purple-ish black hair..” Haruka said, cutting my mom’s response.

“Hey, didn’t the man said not to tell her that-?” Tenya, my little brother said.

“*Sighs* I guess there’s no point in hiding it from her…” My dad says disappointingly.

I knew it… but-… why? That questioned me the whole summer break…

Summer is over and classes are back… but I was still wondering about what happened in the woods… in that cave… that guy, and the gem I have now. Did he gave it to me on purpose? How did he know where me and my family were staying? I have a lot of questions to ask him, but for now they remained unanswered…

“Hikari, here’s your lunch money. Take care on the way!” My mom said as she waves goodbye at me.

“Byeee!”

I guess I have to walk to school… My dad left early for work and now here I am walking… alone. I don’t have friends or like… I didn’t really have anyone to talk to. It’s not that I’m having trouble socializing, I’m just completely transparent in class.

I continued to walk and finally got to my destination, the school.

As I travel towards my classroom, surrounding me were a bunch of gossips and rumors going around. Students chitchatting at the halls, especially the girls. They weren’t looking at me so it means I wasn’t the topic. All I heard that there’s a new transfer student, and it’s a boy. Of course.. the girls are really into this, especially they say that he is hot and handsome or whatever… I’m not interested.

Anyways…

I got to my classroom and sat on my seat. While my class were waiting for our teacher, they completely just did their thing… Talking, Playing, Sleeping or whatever they’re doing-. As for me, I went outside the classroom, walking towards the canteen. Until, I accidentally bumped into someone…

Of course I felt dizzy for a sec, so I rubbed my head where it hurts.

“Sorry-…” I said as I lift my head up towards the one who bumped into me.

To my surprise… it was the same guy… I met at the cave…

“You’re…”

The guy has his eyes also widened, maybe in shock that he met me here in this school as well. So ironic…

He blinked twice as he stared at me… We were like having a staring contest at the moment, as the other students surrounding us observed us.

“Hey- isn’t he the transfer student?”

“Yeah! And the girl is from Class 4-A-1, right? Kiyoshi Hikari.”

Some girls around us started talking.

Oh no…

Me and the guy both looked at the girls who spoke for a second, and then we both looked at each other once more.

“Stop copying me.” I said to him.

“I have to… go-“ He said as he walks away from the scene.

I got irritated by his manner. “Did he just ignored me?” I said to myself.

I didn’t shout or add anymore commotion since I don’t wanna look like a creepy stalker to others’ perspective or maybe even more… So I just kept quiet and let him go for now.

After that, the people that were around started to finally walk away and minded their own businesses…

“*Sigh…*”

Didn’t really had to make a scene… so he’s the new transfer student people are going on about? Hot and Handsome, huh? Oh please…

(After Class)

Finally… although, I have to meet Mrs. Yumi due to some reason… I don’t know what, but okay-. I guess I’ll go.

As I got to Mrs. Yumi’s Office, she asked me a favor to clean the storage room beside her office. Before doing so, she said to wait a little because she’s waiting for someone to help clean the storage space as well.

Minutes later, someone knocked at the door and as it opened, a girl with red eyes and brown hair came in.

“Alright! Thank you, Ms. Kaminari for coming over. I want you to meet Ms. Kiyoshi. I was wondering if it would be ok for the two of you to help me clean the storage room, because I have an urgent meeting to attend to.”

The girl just nodded with a non-chalant expression on her face.

“That settles then! Well, now if you’d excuse me, I’ll have to go now! Here’s the storage and office key, if you’re done cleaning you could lock it and give the key to the school guard, okay? Thanks again you too!”

And with that… she left.

An awkward silence was alive in the atmosphere we both were in. So, I decided to lighten up the mood by greeting her a hello.

“Hey there, I guess we should properly make an introduction?” I said with a bit of an awkward tone.

“No need, I already know who you are.” She said as she looks at me with a numb expression.

“You do?” I said as I blinked twice.

“Yeah… you’re Kiyoshi Hikari from Class 4-A-1. You made a scene in front of your classroom with a guy which is the new student, earlier before classes started.”

“You-… know me because of what happened earlier-?” I said with an irritated look in my face.

“Not really…” She said so fast.

“Then how?”

“We’re classmates…”

Her answer made my eyes widened-…

“Wait- WHAT-?!”

She nodded with her eyes closed making a fool out of me.

“Don’t believe me? I guess I should be the one who has to make a proper introduction.. The name’s Kaminari Raiden, and I’m from the same class as you.”

This girl-…

“Anyways, we should get started.” She added.

As she opens the door, surprisingly… the guy from earlier was just at

the other side of the door.

“Great… you’re here.” I said to him.

“I guess fate has been set for the both of you.”

“What-?” Me and the guy said at the same time.

“I-..” I startled.

“See…” Raiden said.

This guy again? I completely just wanna ignore him… but I’m still curious on what happened-… I just stopped going further earlier because people might think I’m a creep, trying so hard to get his attention. But whatever… I have a lot of questions to ask this guy.

“Hey, you!” I said as I point at him.

“What-?” He finally spoke..

“Do you know-“ I was suddenly cut off by someone that pulled the guy, taking him away from my sight.

“Sorry! Gotta borrow him for a sec!” The girl who pulled him shouted.

What the heck-…

Raiden chuckled as she saw me get humiliated…

I gave her an annoyed look and stared at her endlessly.

“What-? I’m still human. It’s not like I’m always numb, neutral and has an expressionless face.”

“It’s not that. Argh whatever! Let’s just get this over with.” I said as I walked towards the storage room.

(1 Hour and 17 Minutes later)

“It’s been 1 hour and 17 minutes since we started cleaning..” Raiden said out of nowhere.

“What the- were you timing us?”

“Yeah.. I’m the type to get my schedule and time properly.”

“Got a time management, I see\~”

“What’s with the tone of voice?”

“What do you mean? My voice was normal.”

She stared at me for a second and just ignored it.

“Nothing…”

Okay?.. that was uncanny.

A few seconds passed once more, she said something again.

“Hey, about that guy earlier… I’m curious. What were you trying to tell him?”

“Well…” Wait- should I tell her? She doesn’t seem the type to gossip around… although she’s always updated about it-

“Hmmm?”

“It’s… about this gem at my neck.”

She then looked at my neck.

“That’s..?” She said questioningly.

“Long story short… I met this guy in a cave. I saw this gem with him and then he knocked me out. The next time I opened my eyes, I was already at the house my family rented, wearing the gem in my neck.”

“Oh-…”

“You believe me?”

“No.”

“Then, what’s with the ‘Oh-‘…”

“I said I don’t believe your story but I believe you.”

“That doesn’t make any sense..”

“I’ll help you.”

“Wait- really..?”

“Yeah, sure.”

She said she’s willing to help but her face is really neutral like she doesn’t really mean it or something-… Oh well, whatever..

“So you want to help me… How exactly?” I asked her.

“You want his attention right? I gotcha.”

“What-?”

“Come on.. follow me.” She said as she pulled me along with her.

“Where are we going?”

“Remember the girl who took him? I know where they are right now.”

A few seconds later, we were heading to the student council’s office.

“The Student Council..? Why’re we here?”

She just ignored my question and walked towards the door. She was about to knock, until the door opened.

“See…”

“It’s the girl who pulled him…”

“Oh, you mean Hairo? He already left. He said he was going to the library.” The girl who pulled him earlier said.

“Is that so?”

“Thank you, ma’am.” Raiden said as she pulled me once more.

I guess, we’re headed to the Library, then?

We arrived at the place and searched for him.

“His name’s Hairo, right?” Raiden asks.

“I don’t know- how should I know?”

“The girl said his name earlier… not paying close to attention.” She said with an annoyed expression.

“Sheesh.. why ask me, then?” I replied with annoyance.

“Shhh! That’s him right.” She said as she puts her index finger to my lips.

I blinked twice, a little surprised to her sudden gesture and it gives me embarrassment.

“Y’know… we kinda look like a stalker right now-“ I said.

“Aren’t we supposed to be stalking him?”

“Wha-..”

“Come on, go talk to him now… he’s free and alone.”

“Don’t make it sound weird!”

“Go on…”

I gave her a look that would beat her up to death as I finally stood to approach him. Touch luck, until he was disturbed once again by someone.

“Oh well…”

“You were too slow.”

“Not my fault he’s cute and attractive that all the girls are surrounded by him.”

“Oh?\~\~ what did you just say?”

“He’s surrounded by girls?”

“No, before that.”

“That he’s cute and attracti-“ I blushed a little as I’ve spoken those words, seemingly embarrassed by it.

Raiden chuckles at my reaction, making a fool out of me again.

“Stop it!!-..” I said a bit loudly as I continued to stare at the guy, focused on him at some point.

(Moments Later)

After all that happened, we finally accomplished our task on cleaning Mrs. Yumi’s Office Storage.

“Too bad you didn’t got the chance to talk to him today.” Raiden randomly says.

“Don’t make it sound like I have a crush on him and is stalking him throughout the day.”

“I’m not implying it to be like it tho-.” She said that with a whole straight face.

“Are you for real-“

“What do you mean?”

“I seriously do not get this girl…” I said to myself..

“Well, if you weren’t such a noisy brat, then we wouldn’t have been kicked out in the library..”

“Whatever…”

We both started heading to the guard house, handing them the keys as per Mrs. Yumi’s orders.

As I was about to take my lead, Raiden greeted me goodbye before she walks towards the other direction I was heading to.

“Take care, Hikari. Bye.”

“Goodbye!”

Her words sparked me a little since no one has ever said or greeted me that way before. Guess I made myself a new friend, huh?…

After all that had happened yesterday, I was fond to finally confront him. So I stalked him completely… hoping him not to notice, especially the people in this school. I did this on my own without informing Raiden so that she wouldn’t make fun of me. I would spy on him from the way he walks at the halls, eating lunch at the canteen, interacting with others (mostly girls) and much more… But.. in any point, I never got to know which class was he in…

So I asked the other students, especially the girls who would always talk to him. And of course.. negative.

I was eating a sandwich on a bench, after giving up on how to get intel about Hairo. Just wanna forget about it all because it seems so useless and exhausting…

I just kept eating my sandwich until.. Of course, out of all the time in the world, he passes right in front of me… looking at me like he’s been caught red handed.

I finally took this chance to ask him about it all; so I stood up, dropped my sandwich and grabbed his wrist.

“Hey!” I shouted as I tightened my grip holding him.

His eyes grew wider and finally looked at my direction.

“Tell me… who are you..?” I asked him.

“I…”

He went silent for a moment.

Is he speechless or something? Is he mute? Why won’t he speak…

Then I remembered he spoke yesterday when Raiden and I were about to clean Mrs. Yumi’s Storage.

“Talk!” I ordered him.

His head then turned down feeling defeated, so I lightened my grip.

“Look… I’m sorry but…” He lifted his head back and stared into my eyes as he continued to speak. “I have to stay quiet… now pls… leave me be.” He then turned around softly and walked away.

My feelings grew desperate to know even more… his mysterious manner made my curiosity increased. So I chased after him. Until we were surrounded by the crowd, loosing him from my sight.

I just stood there, still trying to find him but unable to do so.

(The Next Day - In Class)

“Alright class, I know you’ve all been hearing about the new student… and now he finally decided which class was he going to! Everyone, let us all welcome Hairo! You may now come in.”

Everyone was in shock, especially the girls were all out in excitement. But the most surprised one… was me of course.

“Hello, My name is Kurayami Hairo. It’s a pleasure to..” He stops for a second as he sees me through the class… “… meet you- all..”

Then the crowd started to applaud him for his introduction.

“Alright! Hairo, you can sit next to Raiden by the window.”

Next to Raiden? So she is my classmate after all.

Since then, Hairo was surrounded by all of our classmates. He seemed pretty popular right now, not only from the girls, but to the other guys as well..

I just observed them for a sec and then dropped my head to my desk, feeling really sleepy at some point.

(After Class)

- Raiden’s POV -

“Hmm? Hikari’s asleep?” I was about to give her a pat to wake her up until someone called my name.

“Yow, Rai! Hurry up… I’m starving.” It was my friend, Yuki.

“Hold your horses, will ya?”

I tried to look for someone to deal with Hikari. And oh boy, this is the right time to tease someone.

I saw Hairo, still packing his things up.

“Hey, Hairo! Could you help me for a sec.”

“Sure.” He said as he walked towards me.

“Could you deal with Hikari for me? I’m really in a hurry, and I’m worried if I leave her alone here.”

“Oh- alright, sur-“ He said in a frightened tone.

“Thanks! See ya tomorrow!” I said as I stormed out of the room leaving the two of them behind.

“H-Hey!-…” He muttered.

- Hairo’s POV -

….

“What did I get myself into…” I said to myself…

I guess I have to wake her up… Why didn’t she wake her up earlier anyways?… maybe she wasn’t waking up?…

I looked closer and moved her hair to her ears, making me able to see her sleeping face.

“Looks like sleeping beauty is having a good sleep right now, huh.”

I gave her a pat, trying to wake her up.

“Hey.. wake up, class is over.”

I tried to pat her once more but she still haven’t managed to awaken.

Looking at her as the sun sets down giving a nice view of the sky from the window.

“You don’t need a light to have your beauty be seen by others… you’re already the light itself.. As for me, I’m just a darkness from a void that could never shine like a sun and star as you are…” I said while glancing at her as I said those words out of a sudden…

“What am I saying just now-”

Loosing from myself, I just ignored my delusions and patted her once more.

“Hey, you should wake up now…”

I kept calling her ‘Hey’ because… I don’t even know her name-.. wait!-

I remembered her friend, Raiden calling her Hikari… so that’s her name? Hikari, huh..

Make sense…

I chuckled after figuring out her name is Hikari which translates to “Light” in Japanese.

A few seconds after she finally started to move…

“Mrrmnghhmmm…” She mumbles.

She slowly opened her eyes and after finally regaining her vision, her eyes widened seeing me at front.

“H-Hello-…” I said awkwardly.

“PFTT- HAHAHAHAHAHA” She laughed mockingly.

“What-? Did I say something wrong-?”

“It’s just-… the way you just greeted me, doesn’t suits your serious and cold demeanor… Ahahaha-“

I looked at her a bit annoyed to the embarrassment I have right now…

“Yeah.. yeah… whatever. I’m gonna go now.”

“Wait-! You’re leaving me already? Weren’t you asked to deal with me for now since Raiden was in a hurry?” She said in a teasing way.

“What-?!.. you were awake this whole time?”

“Nope. I just thought she would do that. I mean, you have no reason to do this anyway, except someone would ask you to do so. And!.. the only one who would care about me is Raiden, so yeah…”

“So smart, huh… whatever-“

“Well… if you could answer all of my questions and give me an explanation, then I’ll let you go.”

I gave her a serious look and waited for her question.

“Explain… everything.” Her mood changes from being a tease to a deadly and serious look.

“Is it about what happened in that cave last summer?”

She nodded in resolve to my question.

“*Sighs*… fine-“

I waited for a few seconds for her reaction but still seriously still, just wanting to let me say the whole story.

“Where should I start?… I don’t want to tell you everything-“

“What do you mean?”

“I mean… personal matters…”

“Why not?”

“Why not? What kind of a stupid question is that?!”

“Fine. If it’s just necessary.. then you have to.”

I looked at her for a few seconds until finally telling her the whole story.

“Alright… well-.. so I guess I should begin about the stone-…

My mom and dad owns a company of a Mining Corporation. But they don’t just sit around and command stuff to their people, instead they do the mining themselves.

My parents held a collab on the Kaminari Clan, since they’re rich and our clan has a great friendship to theirs….

And yep, you heard it right, Kaminari… aka Raiden’s relatives…

Ever since you hung out with her, I thought you already knew everything… or she told you anything about that stone in your neck. But I guess she has personal reasons to do so.

You should go ask her herself. You’re friends aren’t you?”

She gave me a surprised look after hearing the last part.

“I shall now continue…

This was known to the government only, because for some reason… they don’t wanna share it to the public. Not until my family had a discovery of these… gemstones…” I said as I pulled out my gemstone from my pocket.

“You have one too- and it’s purple…”

“Mhmm.. yeah- this is the Shadow Stone.”

“It looks a bit smaller from mine, though-?”

“Let me continue onto why it’s smaller..”

“Alright-“

“Since the discovery of these two gemstones, well- three actually… The Light Stone, The Shadow Stone, and The Lightning Stone, they completely hid the company from the government and thought it was now shut down.

My family kept the Shadow and Light Stone, as per the Lightning Stone, they gave it to the Kaminari Clan as a gift to their support for the company.

Weeks passed by, my family started an experiment about these gemstones because they don’t seem to fit in any category of the elements. Therefore, they figured it special.

One day, as I was strolling at their workplace, I found a dark aura of light from their restricted office where the stones were placed in. Of course this lil ol’ me and my curiosity, I went in the room to check on it.

To my surprise, as I got closer to the gems, the one who kept shining brighter was the purple one. I walked a bit closer, finally touching it. And as I did, the gemstone flashed and returned to its normal state.

After that, my parents slowly got out from their hiding spot. It was a trap experiment all along-… and as a result, they declared me the chosen one for the Shadow Stone.

A few days had passed, my family held an orientation with the Kaminari clan to announce who would be the next one to attain the company.

There lies my big brother, Kairo, expecting that he’s gonna be the next CEO of the Mining Corporation since he’s the first born child.

Kairo was such a good big brother to me. And as we both grew up we would always hangout at our free times. We even look the same. That’s why they thought we were twins.

Things were pretty normal for me and him, until it was announced that… I was the next in line for our company. And that made him shattered…

Ever since then, he ignored me most of the time. I get it, because of jealousy… but it doesn’t mean it has to ruin my relationship to my big brother, right? So I finally confronted him…

I asked him, Why is he avoiding me ever since that announcement.

He said that it’s completely obvious right now. And now he knows why I was the one chosen, not him. All the time he’s been ignoring me, he was investigating the reasons why not him and why me instead.

“It’s about that stupid gem… isn’t it?” He said.

I stumbled to his claim, in confusion of his accusations.

I kind of agreed to his statement at some point, because it didn’t make sense when I was picked.

I proposed him a deal to share this gemstone so that he could get it instead. I didn’t want the responsibility of this company anyways.

So we split the stone in half, because he figures this as the best solution instead of switching gemstones and identities. In that way, in case one is not around, we wouldn’t have to switch on who has the gemstone or not.

This played for a couple of months, until we were discovered by our parents. They accused my brother that he manipulated me about all of this, even though it was my plan from the start. I kept insisting and telling them that it was my fault. But they just kept shhh-ing me that it’s fine now, I don’t have to listen to my brother’s orders and I am now free.

After that, my brother… was kicked from our clan, and is not considered as a Kurayami anymore…

Ever since that happened, I was unable to contact him nor see him again… I tried to find him with the help of the gemstone since he still has it when he was banished. I guess my parents forgot that we split it in half.”

“I don’t get it?… why give the Light Stone to me then?” She asked out of nowhere.

“I’m not finished yet… can’t you be a little more patient? It was you who insisted to make me tell you the whole thing, right?”

“Fine… I’m still interested though-.. although I’m getting a hold about your history and background now, that wouldn’t make it hard for me to date you then.” She said as she chuckled.

“What-..?”

“Nothing\~ I was just kidding… go on\~ continue.” She said that in a very teasing tone.

I gave her an annoyed look and then continued the story…

“The reason why I was in that cave… was because I was hiding from my brother…”

“Your brother?.. but weren’t you looking for him all this time?”

“Well… at that time- he came back. Not to make amends… but to steal the Light Stone.”

“Steal it?… oh I get it now… the way you used to ignore me… the way you said you have to stay quiet and leave you alone… was for my sake.. and the gem…”

“Bingo..! You really are smart at some point.”

“What does that supposed mean?..” She said as she gives me an angered expression.

“Ahahaha- nothing… Anyways, should I still continue?..”

“Yeah, sure!”

“Alright then..

I had an urge to quickly get the Light Stone at that time since he wanted revenge from my family… So I ran from home… I was able to get this far from the power of this stone I have. I got the ability to control the darkness and shadow..

I stumbled across a cave and hid there… that’s when I met you. I was fake sleeping at that time. Since you already saw the gem, not only that… the gem was also shining bright at that time… I figured that-.. you were the chosen one as well for the Light Stone. So I gave you the gem.”

“Wait- what-?” Surprised by the news.

“Don’t get too excited, it was just a theory of mine. Because when I first interacted with the gem too, it was shining as well.”

“I see… well- why knock me out in the first place, then?!”

“So that you won’t further know my identity and this would make the Stone safe from my brother for now since I don’t know who you are.”

“Ohhh-…”

“*Sighs*… and now look, coincidentally, we’re studying in the same school. Great.”

“Maybe we’re destined to meet each other, then?”

“Huh-.. what do you mean?”

“I-I mean… not in a romantic way, okay? What I mean is that the holders of these gems.”

I looked at her, processing her claim. And well- it does quite make sense.
