Long ago there lived 2 races humans and monsters that lived but they soon waged war against each other started by humanity. It was started out of the fear monsters could take a human soul and use that power to crush them, so they fought and humanity came out on top being far too powerful for the war to even last 2 months. The monsters were sealed by 7 human wizards trapped underground indefinitely. But this is a story about a child who knew nothing of such a conflict and that would cost both sides in far different ways.

It had been thousands of years since the war the surface had long forgotten with fairy tales remaining of the war. A child climbed the mountain they were 10 years of age wearing a blue sweater with pink stripes brown pants and black shoes their skin was light yellow but they were as healthy as can be this humans name was Frisk. They were climbing MT Ebbot the mountain of legend where 6 children went missing but it did not deter whatever they were there for as they stood over the hole."I can't believe I'm.... I'm doing this there's nothing to go back to r-right"They took a breath shaking a bit and bit their lip hard drawing blood.They turned around"No this isn't right I'll ju-" They were cut off as they turned to go back they tripped on a pretty strong vine and started falling and screamed on the way down but their fast decent only made it hurt momentarily by nearby hikers sealing her fate of no rescue as they passed out mid-fall out of fear.

I woke up laying in a surprising soft surface I felt a minor ache but it didn't matter "I'm.... Alive" I say with a sigh of relief I sat up seeing I was saved by golden flowers "this is bizarre....are these things special?" I asked recalled how little it took to flatten a flower on accident "I must've been blessed hehe"I laughed before getting back on my feet. I looked around and saw a hallway that looked a bit old so I picked up a stick that was lying between the flowers "I hope there's a way out" I sat before walking my feet echoing through just as I came across a patch of grass "I really hope this is normal" I say just as a flower sprouted out with a face!"Howdy I'm Flowey,Flowey The flower Golly you must be so confused but do-"before the thing could continue I shouted" What are you!?" I let out before covering my mouth in embarrassment and fear not knowing what else this Flowey could do I saw it's eyes twitch slightly "S-sorry... I.... I was just s-surprised you could talk...nice to meet you Flowey I'm Frisk" I apologized and gave my name hoping Flowey wouldn't do anything harmful. Flowey smiled "oh don't worry I should've expected that since this is your first time in the underground but don't you worry pal I'll teach yah how things work around here" He said with a wink just as the surrounding room turned black and white like it was a separate plain.

"What i-is this?" I asked trying to keep up a smile "well this is a battle silly I'll teach yah how to defend yourself down here" He said before pointing at me "if yah look down at yourself you'll see your soul the culmination of your being" He explained as I looked and saw a red glowing heart "this is...what they look like" I said quietly "your a little too weak to survive down here so I'll give you some LOVE to get stronger so just stay still so I can give you my friendliness pellets"He says as 5 white pellets appeared out of nowhere and drifted towards me " oh so it's like a real power of friendship that so co-"I stopped talking as soon as one touched he it hit like a truck I felt like holes were in my body as I coughed up blood and stumbled back. I looked at Flowey seeing he had a wide grin "You I D I O T in this world It's kill or be killed! ".

I trembled and looked at him in fear as I was surrounded with his pellets "NOW DIE!" He shouted as the attack closed in I closed my eyes but nothing came, When I looked he looked confused as his attacks disappeared, and a fireball sent him flying. The one who saved me walked into view, and they were a goat monster. She looked at me with what seemed to be worried eyes but I was almost killed by that flower they both seem to be monster so what's to say she just did that to finish me herself, she got close to me, I tried to step back but I was scared. "Oh goodness I'm so sorry my child I wish I got here sooner please forgive me it was my responsibility to take care of any child that fell. My name is Toriel please do not be afraid my child"She said her voice sounded soft and soothing like a delicate mother but I wondered why she specifically meant children when saying she was watching for them, it probably has to do with the legend of disappearing kids. "You should follow me, so you can recover my child there's a lot I should teach you so this doesn't happen again" She turned around and started walking I followed her looking back occasionally and hoped to never see Flowey again. Going into the next area there were 2 staircases with a ton of red peddles but what caught my eyes was something that shined brightly that seemed like a call to me, I approached it and grabbed it and felt my injuries disappear like nothing happen.

*finding some sort of guide dance in the ruins fills you with Determination*

I let go looking shocked at what just happened I was healed by whatever this thing was but now I had to think of an excuse on what happened "was this why that flower attacked knowing what I could do.....no he just wanted me dead"I went up the stairs and stopped" wait.......how do I explain the whole healing thing?...... I'll just make something up" I walked through the door seeing Toriel standing by pressure pads? She looked at me but didn't have any hint of surprise "You recover fast my child..... Almost like...." She looked sad for a moment but regained that sweet smile"Don't mind me child I guess it would be good to teach you about puzzles" She pointed the plates "when you solve them a certain way you'll be able to get through the underground with ease" She said before demonstrating stepping on some tiles as the door was opened. "Though not all of them are as safe but there are signs in the ruins that'll tell you how things work....does it make sense?"She asked "Yes I understand" I say giving thumbs up.

" Wonderful now follow me Shee turned around and walked through the door and I followed close behind this time the room had assortment of switches with arrows as a clear guide " I'm sure you can try these yourself my child"She said in a assuring tone. I easily did the little puzzle switches seeing the spikes at the end of the room fall down to smooth floor which made me think puzzles were more than just inconvenient obstacles.

It wasn't a very dangerous experience with Toriel the most odd thing about being with her was when she suggested I talk to a dummy instead of doing what I did which was beat it up the thing surprisingly fragile. Toriel didn't get angry but suggested I try talking things out first before resulting to violence it was confusing but then again she was also a monster it would probably be unpleasant to be trying to take care of someone who hurts their people, so I said I would try.

_________3rd person_________

It was not long before Toriel left Frisk alone despite the danger Toriel had left them alone but Frisk was not completely scared just a bit paranoid the Flowey creature being their only concern so far. They came across a Froggit who croaked to give out advice.

Froggit- "Human you should show mercy It could get you far"

Frisk-"Oh uh.... Thanks I'll definitely keep that in mind heh"

Frisk was still adjusting to the whole thing of having to deal with other monsters that would be a problem she walked through a room that had a bowl of candy something advice them to take one but they took 6 before it spilled.

-Your greed is filthy

Frisk turned around but saw nothing it was a strange feeling she'd been having since she got here hearing another voice she heard but never reacted to whatever it was didn't seem pleased by her choice.

Frisk-"I must've hit my head too hard during that fall"

Frisk dismissed her discomfort and walked out the chamber seeing another glowing star she grabbed it and this time she saw what it was clearly

"You feel slight paranoia alone by yourself but you refuse to be scared your filled with determination"

*SAVED*

Frisk-".....so that's what this is about.... Determination"

Frisk felt a profound confidence in what this meant but it wasn't too long for them to ground that confidence.

Frisk-*I can't get ahead of myself that pain was far too real for this to just be some game*

They walked down the path of the ruins it wasn't all too hard to solve puzzles but one thing they were getting tired of was several monsters trying to fight them on sight with few acceptions to the point they started to drop being completely nice.

*You encounter Loox, Froggit, and Moldsmal*

Frisk was a bit taken aback being surrounded as all 3 used their magic and their surprise got them hit by all 3 leaving them in bad shape.

Froggit-"We won't be threatened by you human"

Loox-"what exactly will you do about it?"

Frisk-"Oh great..... hey Pal get out of my way does news not exist down here I don't want to harm anyone at the moment....but it's only so much I'll tolerate...get out my way or I'll hurt you"

*You threatened the Loox however they are not deterred*

By this point, it was easy to deal with most attacks as they weren't too fast or confusing Frisk easily dodged their magic tears and to prove a point they slashed at him with a toy knife they found that actually did something to Frisk's surprise.

*They were surprised by the threat and no longer wanted to fight*

Frisk spared them and went on their way dealing with monsters that way from now on hoping some proof of them not being a complete pushover would deter more attacks. They went through the ruins and found a room with cobwebs seeing a sign they looked up and saw spiders with a lot of webbed-up snacks and there were prices and product names.

Frisk-"definitely not normal spiders..... But do I even have any of this... Gold?"

They reached in their pockets and pulled out some 60g but it definitely wasn't a full amount it left them kinda surprised.

Frisk-"I didn't even feel any of it..... that's strange"

They dropped 60g as a spider came down.

*you've gained 4 as spider donuts*

*Frisk walked out of the area but they were approached by a froggit, Loox, and Moldsmal*

Frisk was a bit surprised that they were directly confronted out of a shop as they held up their toy knife.

Frisk-"So what is this about were warnings not good enough?"

Froggit-(Ribbit)"Not all of us are going to be intimidated by you human"

Loox-"Especially not by such a weak loser"

*Moldsmal wasn't much for conversation*

All 3 attacked them Frisk dodged the first few attacks but trying to predict all 3 going at the same time was a bit confusing as they were hit for the first time in a while so they froze up from feeling the pain and fear they were hit by another onslaught and their slowed reaction costed them.

________Frisk POV________

I woke up again back at the save point I was shaking I remember feeling the slightest drop in the heat of my own body the pain that hit so fast I couldn't scream.

Frisk-"... Ha.... Ha.... D-did I....j-just get killed!"

I held their head and started tearing up.

Frisk-"Was I that mean....I just wanted to get through this nonsense!..... They kept pushing me....I never..."

I clenched my fist pulled at my hair and gritted my teeth.

-"So these monsters couldn't handle a few damn warnings for wasting my time"

I said my voice was like a whisper I stood up and frowned.

-"Kill or be killed..... that's not what that was I'll just show them......harsh consequences"

I grabbed the save point and saved again.

*You feel anger and confusion..... your rage flows through you.....your filled with Determination*

I walked through the same path but this time I didn't show much mercy to those who attacked first I killed a Froggit first I wasn't exactly in the mood for compliments but when I did strike them down I felt a slight feeling of strength. So I kept it up dust was covering my knife and it did lead to less trouble before I walked into the same spider place where I stopped.

-".... Shouldn't I feel anything more?"

I asked myself besides the guilt feeling it wasn't on the same level as taking a life if anything the other feeling was stronger.

-"It's not right.... but they weren't right either..... I'm stronger for doing this...... But this won't be a forever thing right?"

I shook my head and went and bought the exact same thing and amount and walked out with no one to confront me.

_______3rd person_______

Frisk was having a smooth time for the rest of her travel finally reaching Toriel's house as she rushed out.

Toriel-"Are you ok my child?.... You haven't called me since I asked you this whole time you didn't even answer your phone"

Toriel looked concerned and Frisk smiled slightly.

Frisk-"I.... I know I'm sorry I was just distracted exploring the place hehe"

*It hurts you to lie Toriel sees through it*

Toriel-"OK..... let's get inside I'm sure it's been a long day for you"

She walked to the door unlocked it and turned waiting for Frisk.

*but she doesn't press the issue*

Frisk walked over but saw a save point they grabbed it time froze.

*Your mind feels conflicted.....but your happy your with Toriel..... their care fills you with Determination*

*SAVED*

Frisk let go and grabbed Toriel's hand as they walked inside together.

Toriel-"I made some pie though it's a little too hot right now"

She looked at them with a soft smile.

Toriel-"But I'm guessing you're too tired to eat right?"

Frisk looked up and nodded quietly.

Toriel-"I'll.....show you your room then"

She led them to the first door of a hallway.

Toriel-"I got it ready for you while you were out I wanted you to feel welcome here"

Frisk looked surprised.

Frisk-" You did that just for me? "

Toriel-" Who wouldn't do that for their child?"

She smiled and ruffled their hair gently before hugging them which Frisk returned.

Toriel-"I never asked you your name did I?"

Frisk-"it's Frisk......just Frisk......mom"

Frisk said with watery eyes as Toriel hugged them again.

Toriel-"Goodnight Frisk"

Frisk-"goodnight mom"

they separated as Toriel walked to the living room Frisk walked inside their new room they laid down pulling the cover over them before falling asleep.

Frisk was in a void walking forward as they went on and on for miles they stepped on something soft picking up dust as they looked down seeing the dead monsters traced in the dust they shook their head and looked up being met with a figure obscured their feet kept moving as their appearance was more clear. They had short brown hair pale skin and rosy cheeks with red eyes and they were smiling.

????? -"Greetings your doing quite well for yourself"

Frisk suddenly felt like they had more control as they stepped back.

????? -"You should relax I'm not some dark manifestation, Golly I forgot to introduce myself maybe that would help heh"

Frisk-".....what?"

Chara-" Howdy Frisk I'm Chara and I frankly don't blame you for defending yourself because let's just say these monsters are small fries compared to what's beyond the ruins"

Chara smiled creepily as Frisk rolled their eyes.

Frisk -"You say that like I'd leave Toriel"

Chara walked close to them and grabbed their soul.

Chara-"It's in your best interest you do partner..... Because it's your soul not the monsters are so desperate for"
