In the veiled twilight, where shadows and secrets intertwine, demons tread silently, their existence hidden from mortal eyes after the "Mana Struggle War." Demons were expelled from the realm after 100 years of being on power. Since the beginning of time, the demons were named "Rulers of the Ream" duo to be the superior race. After the one hundred years, a mystical force known as "Will Of The Universe" gave the humans the power of "Mana" to fight against the demons. The humans won the war, and most of the demons left to the underworld. Some are hiding in the mortal realm.
Our story takes place a few years after the war ended. A youthful demon boy named "Mamoru" that has eyes of the color of smoldering embers roams the ancient forests of the area of Calista cloaked in mystery looking for food.
That fateful day, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting dappled patterns of forrest of Calista the ethereal dance of light through leaves—the boy stumbled upon a forlorn figure. A lost little girl, her innocence, a stark contrast to the malevolence of their realm, stood trembling amidst the gnarled roots of an ancient oak.
Compassion, an emotion rarely felt in the demon’s heart, surged within him. He extended a hand, the tips of his fingers brushing against her tear-streaked cheek. Her eyes widened, a mix of fear and wonder, as if she sensed the unearthly bond that now tied them together. She told him her name was "Makoto."
He vowed to protect her, to shield her from the predatory whispers of the forest, the sinister currents that threatened to engulf her. Their fragile peace blossomed—a delicate equilibrium between darkness and light.
But fate, ever capricious, wove a different thread. A demon-hunting squad, relentless and unyielding, descended upon their sanctuary. They saw the boy as a threat, a dangerous aberration who dared harbor a human child. Their blades gleamed with malice, their eyes devoid of mercy.
As the squad closed in, the boy’s secrets unraveled like ancient scrolls. His origins, veiled in half-truths and ancient prophecies, hinted at a destiny far grander than mere survival. And he was not the only one seeking him—the mysterious forces, dormant for eons, stirred, their motives shrouded in enigma.
The realms quivered on the precipice of chaos. The boy and the girl—their intertwined fates—held the key. Within their union lay the power to ignite or extinguish the very essence of existence.
And so begins the tale of KOMOREBI, where shadows and light collide, where compassion battles cruelty, and where the boundaries between worlds blur into oblivion.
Mamoru, the demon boy that has eyes of the color of smoldering embers, purple light skin, and spiky white hair, trudged through the dense forest, his eyes scanning the ground for any sign of resources. He had been wandering for hours, and the sun was beginning to set. He knew he needed to find something soon, or he would be forced to spend the night in the forest without eating dinner.
As he walked, he only found little wood to start a campfire. He brought the wood he found to camp and headed out again to see if he could catch some food to eat. It was getting darker as the sun descended.
"Dammit, at this rate, we will have dinner tonight." Mamoru said as he was frustrated as he was getting closer to the river.
As he was walking in the direction of the river near the end of the forest, he heard a faint sound in the distance. It sounded like someone was calling for help. Mamoru followed the sound until he came to a cliff at the edge of the forest. There, he saw a human girl lying unconscious on the ground.
She has blonde short hair. The length of the hair is about her neck. She was wearing a black choker and a pink dress. She wasn't wearing anything to cover her feet.
Mamoru hesitated for a moment. He knows that after the war, humans and demons and humans don't have the best relationship. Humans are trouble, and he doesn't want to deal with it. He just wanted to live in peace, but he knew he couldn’t leave her there, so he picked her up and carried her back to his camp.
As he arrived, Jin, Mamoru’s sarcastic companion, was waiting for him when he arrived. “What’s this?” he said, eyeing the girl suspiciously. “You brought a human here? And to top it all up, a girl?”
Jin was just another human who abandoned civilization because he didn't want to be in a world where, after the war, the promise of peace and a life in harmony was nothing but a lie. Instead there is more war, anarchy and tyranny.
Jin has curly blue hair, has a round face, and he always wears an orange bandana on his head. He is very sarcastic but isn't a bad person. He never questioned Mamoru for being a demon. He enjoys Mamoru’s company, and they make a great team splitting work.
Mamoru nodded. “She was unconscious. I couldn’t just leave her there.”
Jin rolled his eyes. “Well, you’re going to have to take care of her. I’m not going to do it.”
Mamoru knew that Jin didn’t mean that Jin was a good person, but he was a very honest and sarcastic person. He had expected Jin to be angry that he had brought a human to their camp. But Jin seemed more annoyed than anything else.
As they started the campfire, the sun was completely gone, and the night began with a full moon, as he was sitting by the fire with the girl, then she suddenly sat up and looked around. “Where am I?” she asked, her voice groggy.
Mamoru didn't look up and reply. “You’re safe,” he said. “You’re with me and Jin.”
The girl looked confused. “Who are you?” she asked.
"I'm Jin, and this fool is mamoru. He found you unconscious on the cliff. Any idea why you were there alone in a dangerous place such as this? You are lucky this guy found you. " Jin replies with an annoyed expression.
The girl started to tear up as she was confused and a lot of things were on her mind. She was lost, confused and she didn't have any idea how she got there all she remembered was her name.
"My name is Makoto, I don't remember anything." Makoto replied, drying her tears.
Mamoru’s heart sank. He realized that Makoto had lost her memory. He understood her situation because he himself couldn't remember anything before he met Jin.
Over the next few days, Mamoru took care of the girl, who he learned was named Makoto. She didn’t remember anything about how she had ended up on the cliff, and Mamoru didn’t press her for details. He was just relieved that she was fine, although she didn't have any memories and that she didn’t seem to be bothered that he was a demon.
As the days passed, Mamoru began to realize that Makoto was beginning to be too clingy with him. He knew that it was dangerous to get too close to a human, but he didn’t know what to do.
A week has passed since Mamoru found Makoto unconscious on the cliff. Makoto seems to have lost her memories somehow, but she seems to be fine, no anomalies whatsoever. Makoto doesn't seem to find it strange that Mamoru is a demon and that Jin doesn't seem to care.
As they were preparing to move to another location, Jin came to Mamoru to talk privately.
"What do you think, Mamoru? Is she another survivor, or is she a trap?" Jin asked Mamoru, concerned about Makoto.
Mamoru examined Makoto without her knowing. His scarlet eyes glinted with a mix of curiosity and caution.
"I sense no danger, Jin. She's not like us, and something about her feels... different."
Makoto woke up complaining about why they had to move and that it's too early to be awake. Mamoru looked worried for a minute because he knew that Makoto didn't know what's going on in the world right now.
"Come on, it should be a crime to be awake this early." Makoto complained to Mamoru as she was waking up.
"You really don't know what's going on, do you?" Jin replies
"What do you mean? What's going on?"
Makoto replied to Jin, yawning.
"I'll explain as we go. For now, let's move."
Mamoru said as he was getting everything ready to leave the area.
Makoto didn't say anything after that and helped them prepare to leave. They started walking through the woods, leaving the sticks and rocks they used for the fire. Mamoru felt uneasy, and that's why they wanted to move. Even if he didn't say it, Jin could tell why, and he also felt that it was the right call. They were in that part of the forest for 2 months now.
They stopped where the river was. The Calista River was one of the most beautiful places you could see in Calista. Water was crystal clear. You could see the fish swimming and the trees surrounding the area was a place with a lot of birds. Jin climbed a tree to check if he could get some eggs. Luckily, he found some eggs to have breakfast. Now that Makoto was with them, they needed more supplies. Mamoru told Makoto to get water on the river while he prepared the camp and started the fire as Jin was getting some eggs.
Mamoru, as he was preparing the camp he started having flashbacks of his of a year ago. He started to realize that something in Calista was calling him. He thinks that it might have to do with some sort of ancient Mana Artifacts.
Makoto returned with fresh water, and Jin came back with the eggs for breakfast. Jin asked Mamoru and Makoto if they wanted their eggs boiled, to which they both replied yes. Makoto sat down next to Mamoru and asked him why they had to move.
"It's been 2 months since Jin and I stayed in that location, and for some reason, I feel something is coming at us." Mamoru told Makoto as he was still deep in thoughts.
"What do you mean? Is this place dangerous?" Makoto replied, sort of scared.
"Since you don't have any memories, I have to tell you the history first."
Mamoru replied as he opened his eyes, looking at Makoto.
Long ago, Calista was under the oppressive rule of demons. However, a cosmic intervention, known as the "Will of the Universe," bestowed upon humans the gifts of Mana and Spiritual Force. This marked the turning point, empowering humans to rise against the demonic tyranny.

Mamoru told the history of Calista to Makoto at the very end of the story. Jin told them that the eggs were ready.
As they were eating, Makoto was quiet and was deep in thoughts.
"Is there anything wrong, Makoto?"
Jin asked Makoto as it seemed she was lost in thoughts.
"Yes, it is just I feel I have heard this story before." Makoto replied, not sure if her memories are true or not.
Mamoru looked surprised and smiled as he said, "I knew it."
