Adella came out of the Graveyard and wore her coat.
Today was her best friend's second death anniversary. She had lost him two years ago exactly on this date. He was her best friend since childhood and was there for her in every phase of her life.
He was there when she got her first permanent teeth, he was there when she got her first period, he was there when she got her first crush, and he was there when she first fell in love
He was there to witness it all. But suddenly one day he wasn't
It was a normal day and Adella was going to work when she got the news that he had met with an accident and was brought to the hospital dead.
She could not even say goodbye to her best friend. His death had shattered her and she became like a lifeless body for almost two months
It was after her mother comforted her that she had sobbed in her arms and finally started coming to life. She still missed him terribly.
He was the only friend she had made throughout her life and his death had left her all alone.
She entered her room and smiled sad looking at their picture on the wall.

Why did you leave so early? I miss you buddy. You are such a liar. You Promised me you'll be there with me in every big step of my life. it's my wedding Lance, and you are not here. You lied to me. Please!... come back please. I will never trouble you. I miss you a lot.

You know it right. If you were here it would have been so good. We would live together in one house. I will be your sister-in-law now, you Would have to behave respectfully with me, Which is impossible for you. If you would ever trouble me I'd complain to Laurence, and he would scold you and I would tease you from behind. Life would have been so fun
The tears in her eyes were not stopping. She was missing him a lot today.
It was her marriage in two days. She was getting married to his elder brother who she has been in love with since forever. When he proposed to her parents for marriage she couldn't be happier and agreed without any delay.
She didn't know when she slept while crying. The next time she woke up it was morning already and her mother was running around the whole house getting everything done because it was her birthday
Adella got ready in her attire for the day and settled on the seat placed for her when the celebration started
By the end of the day she was dead tired and slept immediately laying down.
Laurence on the other hand was trying hard to convince Nathalie.
Laurence Lin
Natalie my love, please believe me. I promise I love you and only you. But I will have to marry her. Just for some time and then I am all yours.
He said cupping her face and she glared at him.
Natalie Sanders
You think this is a joke Laurence. You think marriage is a joke. Today from one girl and tomorrow from another. What if you fall in love with her later on and don't want me anymore. What about me then?
She asked moving away from his touch and he sighed.
He gritted his teeth remembering what Adella had done and Natalie nodded deciding.
Natalie Sanders
I'm giving you two options Laurence. Either her or me. I need to protect my feelings and if you choose your revenge and her then we are over. You cannot get both things together.
She gave him an ultimatum, and he looked at her helplessly.
Laurence Lin
Natalie, please don't do this. I love you, but I need to do this.
Natalie Sanders
Fine then! If your so-called revenge is so important that you can go away from me because of it, then I don't have any importance in your life right.
She said making Laurence look at her helplessly.

He whispered those words, but she had decided. If he was adamant then she needed to be tough too. She had a heart and her feelings to protect.
It would be easy for him to say that he had fallen in love with his wife, and she would be left nowhere then.
It was easy for him to say that he wouldn't fall in love with her, but marriage is no joke. The feelings and relations change after marriage.
Laurence and Natalie met for the first time in London four months ago. He stayed there for his business which was now majorly shifted to Singapore, and she used to live with her brother for her higher studies.
He had seen her in her University when he went to deliver a Speech there. She was the most curious student and being one of the very few people from Singapore he found her very interesting.
That was how it started and then slowly and gradually their bond increased, and it was only one month ago that they had confessed about having feelings for each other when the news of him getting married caught her by surprise.
All this while she was trying to persuade him to leave his revenge, but he was adamant, and today she had to take a step.
She got back from his arms and smiled sadly

She said and left from there leaving him sad and alone.

Laurence was standing in front of his and Lance's photo all ready in his wedding attire. He was getting married in a few hours.
Laurence Lin
I promise Lance I'll take your revenge. She rejected your love because of her so-called love. I'll make sure she never gets the love she yearns for. I lost you because of her, and she'll lose everything she owns in her life. Furthermore, I'll never forgive her for snatching you from us. I promise Lance.
He said and wiped the tear that fell from his eyes. Just then the door to his roopened and and his mother entered with a not so good expression on her face.
It seemed like she had heard everything and her next statement proved it.

What is all this Laurence? Revenge? What revenge?
She didn't want to assume anything. Laurence wasn't here when everything happened and he didn't know the actual truth was. She didn't want him to do anything rashly.
He said looking away. He didn't want to stress her. It was his problem and he'll deal with it.

I don't know what you think, but I have known Adella since she was 4. She and Lance have always been inseparable. And his death was a sore topic for her. Still is. She is too innocent my child, and too kind. You will keep hurting her,, and she will keep thinking good about you. Don't do anything you will regret later on.
Laurence looked away and went into deep thought.

I know Adella too well. She can never do what you are assuming. She used to get distressed if Lance was slightly hurt or in trouble
She saw Laurence in deep thoughts and smiled.

After Lance's death she too was broken like us. Today after so long I have seen the shine back in her eyes. Don't let that shine fade away Laurence. I can only console you, rest those decisions of yours will affect your life.
She said and left leaving him thinking everything.
A rational part of him was convinced that his mother was correct and Adella couldn't do anything like that, but his love for his baby brother overpowered his sense of thinking.
He still remembered how he had found him when he returned from London. He was Wrapped in white sheets, face completely white and body lying lifeless inside that coffin.
His baby brother who was full of life was lying lifeless there. The scene completely Broke him. And the words written in his diary were still fresh in his mind as if he had read them just yesterday
He looked at himself in the mirror like a determined man. He had decided. He Would not accept her until he gets sure of the truth.
The next few hours seemed like a blur. Everything seemed to have happened so fast and the next he knew he was married to the woman he despised.
She looked into his eyes, he was surprised to see the beautiful glint in her eyes, and shy smile adorning her lips. She Looked happy. Genuinely happy. And she looked at him with eyes filled with love.
He didn't know when but his lips curled up automatically, and he gave her a microscopic smile making her lower her head in shyness.
They were soon sent off to their home after reception
She was sitting beside him sniffing and looking out when she felt a handkerchief kept on her lap.
She looked towards him and saw him looking out of the other window. She couldn't see his face, but a smile formed on her lips at his gesture
She mumbled a small thank you and wiped her tears.
She went to his room which was now hers too, and sat on the bed.
The room was decorated tastefully, and she lowered her head thinking about what would happen tonight
She loved him and was ready to be his wholeheartedly but was too shy to make the first move.
She waited for quite a time and glanced at the clock when he didn't come for almost an hour.
She was getting tired now

Maybe he is stuck somewhere. His cousins are very mischievous and maybe they stopped him.

Should I change my clothes? They are itching
She looked at the door and carefully got up. She changed her clothes and cleaned her face. She removed her hairpins and after about half an hour she was all ready for bed, but he was nowhere.
She sat on the bed resting her head on the headrest and waited for him not realizing when sleep took over her, and she slept in the same position.
It was almost 7 in the morning when Laurence finally entered the room. He saw her sleeping in the sitting position with a pillow clutched to her chest and head rested back on the headboard.
He ignored her, and went to change his suit. When he came back out after shower she was still sleeping peacefully which bothering him a lot and he banged the bathroom door a little too loud, waking her up with a startled jerk.
She looked at him and gave him a lazy smile.
Adella Snow
You came? Where were you. I was waiting.
She said softly almost melting his heart, but Lance's dead face flashed in front of his eyes and his expression hardened.
He did not bother replying and just laid on his side facing his back to her and closed his eyes.
She came near him and caressed his face

Are you feeling unwell?
She asked and he groaned in annoyance and anger.
Laurence Lin
Will you shut up and let me sleep?
She chuckled and shook her head.
Adella Snow
You are still cranky when sleepy.
She mumbled and kissed his head making his heart flutter. He felt even more angered and disgusted with himself.

He should be hating her touch but instead his heart was fluttering at her actions and words.

Over a month had passed since the two have been married and Laurence has been nothing but rude to her. Snapping at every chance he got and being angry with her all the time.
He hadn't once talked to her and tried to get his thoughts sorted. Every time he tried to Lance's lifeless face and the page from his diary came into his mind and his brain would stop working.
But Adella had never once complained, and bore everything with a smile thinking it was his frustration of work. His work was still being shifted from London to Singapore and he was really busy in that.
She walked into their room with a wide smile to greet him when she heard his voice. His back was turned to her, and he was talking to someone on the phone. She froze hearing his words and was shocked.
Laurence Lin
Please trust me baby. I swear I don't love her. I love you. And soon I am going to marry you. She isn't anyone in my life. She's temporary, You are permanent my love.
She walked to him and whispered slowly.
He turned to her and disconnected the call. He put his hands in the pocket and gave her a blank look.
Adella Snow
What is all this? Whom were you talking to?
Laurence Lin
To my girlfriend.
He said as if it wasn't a big deal.
Adella Snow
Stop joking Laurence
She said trying to convince herself. He smiled for a moment giving her momentary relief.
Laurence Lin
Why would I joke about this Adella?
Her smile fell but she did not budge.
Adella Snow
Really? Girlfriend? Come on Laurence. You are married to me.
She said and tried to turn, but his words stopped her.
Laurence Lin
So what? Adultery isn't a crime anymore.
He said with a casual shrug, and she gave him a hurt look for saying that.
Adella Snow
So what? I don't believe it was a girlfriend.
Laurence Lin
Then Don't. But it is the truth. She was my girlfriend. Natalie.
When he took a name she lost it.
Adella Snow
Why are you doing this Laurence? We have been married for a month now, and you haven't talked to me with love nor even looked at me. Always angry. But I never said anything thinking it to be your work frustration, but this is not funny Laurence.
She whispered the last part and lost his sense. He held her jaw
She shrugged off his hand and clutched his shirt from his chest area.

Yes it is not funny. It was never funny.
He yelled making her look at him wide-eyed.

Killing my brother was not funny.
He shouted making her heart beat loudly.
She whispered, but he was in another world.
Laurence Lin
He kept loving you like a madman, and you rejected him on his face. It was not funny.
She was confused and looked at him trying to understand what he was saying.
Laurence Lin
Hurting him to the extent that he committed suicide is not funny.
She looked lost. Tears started flowing from her eyes. He seemed to be in a trance.
Laurence Lin
He couldn't bear the pain and hurt of being rejected openly. You killed my brother.
He said and pushed her away from him. She lost her balance and fell on the bed with a thud. The accusation he put on revolving around her mind.
Adella Snow
He loved me? He never told me. I never knew he felt something like that for me. How can I reject him when I did not even know-
She suddenly stopped as she realized what he was talking about.
Adella Snow
I remember now what you are talking about. It was the day I got to know that you're coming back. I was very happy. Lance said he wanted to meet me. But before he could say something I told him, my feelings for you. I didn't want to hide it from him
She said and tears fell from her eyes nonstop.
Adella Snow
I thought he was shocked. He wasn't. He was hurt.
She whispered and closed her eyes.
Adella Snow
But he can't commit suicide. Lance wasn't weak. He knew his importance in my life. He knew I'll choose him over you in a heartbeat. He can't commit suicide because of this reason.
She sobbed and kept repeating over, and over again. Laurence looked lost. What if what she was saying was true and she never rejected him. Then why did Lance write all that.
He went out of the room which had started to suffocate him. He needed to clear his mind and know the truth.
The page from Lance's diary came back in his mind.
"She doesn't love me! She loves him. She loves Laurence. Adella loves my brother. She doesn't love me"
And now he realized that he had never written that she rejected him, or he wanted to die. But since it was the last thing he wrote in his diary before his death Laurence assumed it to be a suicide note.
He went to the only person who could help him right now. He knocked at his father's study and entered inside.

How did Lance die Dad?
He asked without beating around the bush making his father shocked.
Leonard Lin
Suddenly this?
He didn't know why Laurence was asking this after two years.
Laurence Lin
Please dad, I need to know this. What Happened that day?
His father sighed and closed his eyes as if recalling the day.
Leonard Lin
We went to the yearly conference, Me and Lance. He was coming back from there and crossing the road. Everything happened in a second. A big truck came towards him with great speed. He couldn't understand what was happening. And the next second the truck hit him, killing him on the spot.
Laurence stumbled and fell on the couch.
Laurence Lin
(He didn't commit suicide. My brother didn't commit suicide. I hurt my wife without any cause and reason)
He felt angered and disgusted with himself for hurting an innocent soul, which came out as form of tears and he sat there crying his heart out.
