Sometimes I like to go back to the day, the day before everything changed, the day when I was still innocent, small and never hurt anyone. I regret the way I felt that day the way I didn't say goodbye to my parents the way I fought with my sister the night before never realizing that was gonna be my last. I was clueless immature and it tears me apart every day to think about it. I was pitiful, didn't bother to think about the dangers the future laid out for me that very day. It was 6:02 am in the morning my alarm just went off. I fought my way out of my deep sleep. That night I had a weird dream, a place where the word hell doesn't cover it, an eternal abyss one where nothing, no one can help you. In the dream, it was a dark place between space and time where you never stop falling. you continue down a long path of nothing. no noise. no life. not even your own screams can be heard. I stay this way for what seems to be forever. but suddenly a shadowy figure appears, with a smile as dark as a murderer, eyes as red as the down further and further until suddenly it stops, everything, stops you stop. flames burning in hell. He comes slowly picked me up like your nothing grinning an evil smile. he turns to you screams the screams of the dead never-ending as though he is hell himself. his screams echo launching you backwards continuing falling through that eternal abyss. you scream but not even yourself can hear your cries. it's as though you've lost all purpose to live, still falling until suddenly it stops. everything stops. you stop. I picked up my feet and slid them off the warm sheets onto the ice cold wood floors beneath me. My breath uneasy as my feet encounter the cold floors letting out a sharp breath in the surprise of the water on the floor and glass. It turns out that I had knocked over my water cup when I turned off my alarm in the morning. A tiny shard slid into my toe as if it was never there I pulled out and a small drop of blood came off onto my finger. I looked around my room the aura looked empty. I didn't have that much stuff, to begin with, but most of my clothes were in a giant duffle bag. “ Oh, right camping day” I mumbled. I walked down the stairs to the smell of eggs and bacon and the noise of moms piano filling up the room. My sister still ignoring me from the fight last night sitting across from me at the table. “How many?” dad asks with a big grin on his face. ¨one” I reply not bothering to return his smile. ¨come on brighten up, smile¨ he says back to me but this time with an offering smile.¨okay..”I begin saying, his smile grows in the result. “But I'm going to take that smile upstairs to my room along with my eggs and bacon.”. He steals a disapproving glance as I immediately say I'm kidding” in hope to not get in trouble. I slide into my chair and eat my food quietly. Though nothing is quiet when dads chipper. He can talk and talk all day when he's in a good mood. This is one of the side mom didn't like about dad. I take after my mom I enjoy music and quietness. But my sister Layla takes after dad, she is full of energy always happy. I finish first, I clean my dishes and go get ready for my friends. I'm in the middle of changing when I hear the doorbell. I rush downstairs ¨I'll get it¨ I say. I open the door and standing there are all five of my friends. There's Tina the girly one, Jane the adventurous one, Sakura the kind one, James the smart one and a jock then alan he's the one whos obsessed with martial arts. Only after I notice James’ eyes are focused elsewhere. I glance at them then down at myself to see I am only wearing my croc top. I run upstairs to get a shirt. As I walk up the creaky wood floors I overhear the tv posting an earthquake warning shocked I run upstairs to get my stuff and put on a shirt. I grab my duffle bag but as soon as entering the stairway the house shakes. A thundering noise comes from below. I race down the stairs trying not to get caught up in the smashing glass plummeting onto the ground due to the force of it falling. Suddenly I feel a sharp pain enter into my leg. I prepare myself in order to look down, the glass shard hit my leg at an angle where the glass shard jabbed into the muscle. I breathe in the pain as I tightly tie a bandana around it so no one will stop me from going on this trip. I've waited three months for this trip and no one was going to stop me. Suddenly as we open the door the cold breeze hits our faces as well as my wound. We sit at the bus stop on the icy bench when suddenly a screeching noise appears along with a loud longhorn. To our surprise, the bus’s breaks are broken suddenly crashing catching fire the blood-curdling screams of the bus driver and those within a memory never to be forgotten.
His face messed up though you can still see the dimples where he would smile at the onboarding passengers. The sky, clouds closing in upon us until there is not even a single speck of light left to view. The only noise is a splash as the bus plummets into the water. “Why the water, ”I think to myself. Suddenly an ambulance comes or what at least looks like one except in black. They come and get ready to dive into the water, though one of the men has a knife. Confused I continue to watch them in secrecy. When one of them splashes up with deep breaths. “They found him,” I think, but to my surprise, they come up with only the head. I cough back my scream, tears flood my eyes. In our small town, everyone knew each other. I then found out that Robert was on the bus driving that morning. More tears pour out unstoppable. Robert had taken care of me as a kid and treated me as his own. Now, look where that made him end up. He didn't deserve this. My friends faint from the shock of the crash had run inside to call a real ambulance and didn't see this part. “He at least deserves to get a good funeral,” I think to myself but some of my thinking comes out as mumbles. I decided to look into whos taking him and where. I scan the black ambulance to find a little logo under the license plate. GMH I read in shock. I never thought that it would still be standing. GMH stands for genetically modified humans. Something more horrible than death. They are known for their mistakes. The rumours state how GMH is a company willing to do anything for science. It is said to be a place so horrible where the only thing your given is thin clothes worn down shoes. The only thing you feel is the cold concrete floor, the only warmth from the shadows that lurk from the outside. They are monsters they turn people into things that shouldn't be living. They have the power that shouldn't have fallen into their filthy hands. The money they make is simply blood money. They kill people on the spot if they do not obey. The only thing I can't figure out is why it is still running. What is there means with us? What plans do they have with the US president? I can't hold it in anymore I try to run and warn my friends only to be stopped by no other than a GMH soldier. “Where do you think you're going,” he asks with a smirk on his face. “I'm not thinking of going anywhere, I am”I reply ignoring his smirk. “ don't talk back to me twerp” he barks out of his frown as he picks me up as though I'm nothing. “Let me go,” I say calmly. He laughs at me swings me around. “What are you gonna do about it short stack,” he says. “Let go of me,” I say once more. “Or else” I add. That just makes his grin reach from ear to ear. “Or else what,” he says. “Or else you'll be sorry” I state. His only reply is a laugh. Suddenly I feel dizzy and ill. I look around to see the world spinning around me. Why do I feel something trying to break out of me something, something that's been within me since I young? Suddenly I feel better. Better than better, I feel alive. I look at my hands sparking with electricity. I reach forward in shock. “What's happening, ”I ask. The soldier looks at me like I'm worth millions. “It's true the legends true a child will ascend from hell and kill us all”. He laughs but this time it's not like before, it's mad. I scream as I jolt from the pain running through my body. Sounds everywhere echoing around me cries, cries for help, for love, for sins. The GMH soldier drops me harshly. I scramble into the form of a ball. Clutching my ears, have I to go mad? Then it all clicks all of my memories ones from before this life. “Why I think. WHY! I don't understand in all my lives I've never been sinful. I was a good I called mercy. Why, why now give me my memories of why. My lives all painful. If I was lucky to find the love they would die. I was always born with this, this burden. Weighing on my shoulders never allowing me to get my wings. Why?” I think with my mind overflowing with all of these painful memories of everyone I once knew. It all clicks but I still won't admit it. “These aren't my memories” I scream. But no one does anything no one moves no one breaths. “I killed them, ”I say in disbelief. I run into my house to only see my family and friends in a light daze. I snap them out of it. “What happened” they all mumble simultaneously. Then a scream echoes from outside.
Not caring as I run out of the house in socks stepping in puddles. Not caring when the cold frosty air reaches my cut this, this is nothing, that scream is the only thing on my mind. Repeating itself over and over as though it's trying to translate it from a language I don't know. I dash through the wetness around me targeting the place the sound came from. I stop in disbelief. There in our neighbourhood park, the very tree we would play on the round tire swing, now turned into the suicide spot of four people. I plop on the ground forgetting about my cut as the glass shard slides further. I decide I can't procrastinate any longer. I hiss as I breathe the white air sharply while pulling the shard from my leg. Our little town Galena is turning into something else. Sometimes I stop to wonder how this is the town I called home. I look around as I see more GMH soldiers gaining more speed. “They're after me” I realize. I can't run nor can hide. Though that doesn't mean I can't try. I run away, away from my friends, my family, my life, my home. But only to stop after hearing the gunshots echo around. I dash back with not a single care in the world except to keep my friends and family safe. When I run back my mom screams at me. “Take your sister or else she'll have the same fate”. I grab her and tell my friends to come as well. We rush past the horrifying screams of everyone in the neighbourhood including mom and dad. I run as fast as I can running away from the screams. If I go back everything mom did for me would be in vain. I run allowing the tears to get caught in the past. I got to stay strong not only for my friends but for my sister. All clueless of the situation, not even able understand it. I need to get them somewhere safe. I run and run until I can't run. I'm falling I think confused. I hit something hard my vision goes in and out until I can't see anything at all and everything is just black.
