My Ten Goals

The Opening

"What do you want her name to be?" Asked the father of the new born, his face strawn with a permanent scowl, his voice was deep, and his pitch as clear as crystals. His two other children sat beside him as they gazed at their newest sibling with amazement.

"Becca..." The soft voice of the mother whispered, as if talking to her self.

"What was that Dear?"

"Becca... Becca show, yes, that is what i want to name her." She gazed at the child lovingly and held her tighter. Yes, she held Becca Show in her arms with a sense of protectiveness.

The father smiled at his wife, she had chosen a good name so it would seem. He stood up and flung his coat over his shoulder . He said.

"I'll be leaving now; Duty calls". He walked out of the hospital and headed straight for his car, he was there for the delivery of his third child, his task for the day was done. He drove off leaving not a trace of smoke. From his battery powered car.

"Your father is so busy, but don't you kids worry alright?"

"Yeah!" They chorused. She sighed heavily as she looked at the child in her arms. "Welcome to the world," she told her. Sitting on the comfortable hospital bed for a long time can make you very uncomfortable. She shifted her weight, to adjust her position, but she was still uncomfortable.

Becca had strands of black hair on her head, with rosy cheeks, when she lifted her eyelids, the room and everyone else in it was greeted with a pair of pitch black orbs. Yes there was nothing special about her looks. Nothing special. Nothing at all. Outside the room the nurses could hear the wailings of the child

"how long will it take for father to come home? It has been three years now since Becca was born, not a phone call, a letter or a message! What nonsense is this?! Baily does not even know where father is. or has he deserted us?!" In that instant, the oldest child of the Show family was slapped. She had said too much, she had gone too far with her words and she had hurt her mother. For when she looked up, her mother was in tears.

"Do not speak bad of your father . And do not ever say such things in my presence, how dare you?" The mother spoke, her voice coming on differently, she sounded like she was about to choke. A three years old Becca sat down on the floor with a plush teddy bear in hand as she looked at her mother cry and her elder sister walk out the front door. Baily, the second born of the family sat quietly, a loaf of bread on one hand and a cup of tea on the other. Her sister and mother normally had their squabbles at times, but her sister had gone too far. She never sided any one, she would never ever side anyone. Baily looked at becca who had her butt planted to the ground staring at her sternly. she could see a slight scowl on her face. and it irritated her for a split second.

"Don't stare at me like that." Baily said as she stood with her food and went over to her room.

The first time i called

"Hello...my name is Becca Show, I am four years old, I live with my mom and my elder sisters. I like my sisters, they are fun to be with. And I like my mom, she is fun to watch. They have diff-different! expressions each time - yes! My eldest sister and my mom likes to fight alot, but in the end they get along pretty well! My dad... As for him I don't know where he is, I asked my sister once...Baily that is, but she said 'he might be dead' so yeah, I don't know where he is. I've never seen him, but I think I've seen a picture of him before. Maybe. but I don't care. we're doing great without him so...no need to worry! where ever you are Mr dad, I hope you send a letter, atleast so mom's face can be a little bit happier whenever she looks at your picture. Oh! Yes before I forget. I just graduated from nursery one, and my mom said that I've finally shed my training wheels on school, and I'm getting into the real deal. I don't really know what she means by that, but am gonna think it's something good." She gave a sheepish smile at the video camera, her eyes closed and pressed tight, she was happy, when suddenly she felt a pang on her chest. It was painful but not enough to get her full attention, it only changed her expression a bit. But she waved it off as nothing. " I am in nursery two now! take that classes! hahahahahaahahahah!"

Becca signed off the video camera with a laugh, and a hearty one at that. She had just received the gift from her mother. Apparently for her birthday present, so her mother had told her. So she had decided to do a recording for every new week that comes by, she would summarize all that had happened the past week and save it on video, it was like her diary. A video diary. And to her, it was perfect.

The day was still bright when she was through with her recording, she wrapped up the video camera and placed it into a box with Roman carvings. It was a weird box, one that her mother also gave her, said she bought it at a pawn shop, the box was an auburn brown with gold linings on the edges, and purple strings marked out the carvings. to her they looked like spooky murals, but it was a beautiful box nonetheless. She slid the box with the video camera in it, under her bed, for safe keeping. Standing up she gave a satisfied grin, one that was only meant for her eyes to see. She looked out the window to see her sisters. Onne, (the eldest) was lying down on the lawn her arms and legs splayed across the grass, and Baily, (the second) was sitting down, her back as straight as a plank. Her correct posture was slightly frightening. If not too much.

"Hmmm..." she moaned. the grass looked enticing and comforting, it was tempting to go there to lie as her sister did. How fun would that be? how relaxed would she feel?

All in all it was tempting. But she could not go outside, she was not allowed. For she was prone to rashes. Just a slight peck from a stray grass would get her scratching like edd ed n' eddy's chicken pox rave wasn't enough. and she was not even the one who had a frail body. Her sister Baily was the most sickly amongst them. Yet she could play with the grass as much as she wants. She was not wishing to be sickly like Baily but she envied her for being able to enjoy the feel of the green. Of that green comfortable looking texture... graaaaaaassssssssss. Oh the word she loved, but her skin hated it so.

'Atleast i can sit on concrete. that will make me be able to sit with them.' With that thought in mind, she set out to go meet her sisters outside. As usual by this time, her mother was sound asleep. It was 3 pm.

"This is the first time i called, Becca Show has arrived!"

These days were bliss.

Hello to STEM

"hello people of Earth . my name is Becca Show, and you are supposed to know this."

Becca stood from her chair and left the view that the video camera could scope to come back with a box in hand, on the box was written 'Le jus d'orange'. It was an old box. She blew dust from the surface. She set her gaze on the video camera to continue from where she stopped.

"I found this box behind a tree at the park, well if you can call it a park, it's more like a forest! So I decided to do a video about it, I'll name this video, 'The unboxing of the unfamiliar!' Pretty cool right? I know. Anyway, I am curious as to what this box holds! let's get right to it"

She used a knife to remove the tape that held the box's lids together. When she opened it, her expression changed from curious to confused.

"It's empty! How could it be? The box is really heavy! A box like this can't be this weight-y with nothing inside of it." She said, as she looked up with surprise.

"There is nothing in the box! This isn't a prank peeps, it's really empty!" she turned the box so her supposed viewers could see.

"It's empty....oh poops."

She stood, stretching her hand to reach the power button, she said,

"that's all folks."

She turned off the device and put it the wooden box, sliding it under her bed, while the empty box was placed on the table.

She left her room going down the stairs, when she heard her name...it was coming from her room.

"Becca.....show."

It sounded like her mother's voice....but her mother was not at home. Skeptically she walked back up to her room. She slowly opened the door looking left and right, her head above the threshold.

THUD!

She looked to the right again, it was the box, it fell from the table and unto the floor.

"How did-?"

She walked into the room and carried the empty box, placed it on the table and kept her hand on it. then she heard the voice again

"Becca Show" she looked down surprised, it was the box that was talking. She quickly removed her hand from the box and went two steps back. Something purple and shapeless started coming out from the box, until it took a form. It was nothing like her mother, it's mouth was wide almost reaching to the sides of it's face, if it can be called a face and something like eyes on it were slanted, it was like a demon, but what was it doing here?

She remained quiet.

"Hello Becca! pardon my intrusion to your humble abode; you brought me here but it's all the same! And the fact that I am using your mothers voice but, it was the last one I heard apart from yours, and I have to speak mind you. I'll also advice you not to be scared: am a really friendly guy. but who am I kidding? I don't look friendly at all! now do I? Right!"

She mustered the courage and asked the question of the century.

"What are you?"

"me?" asked the demon. " Well, we have smart now don't we?" the demon said, a wide smile on it. "Why, I am the sidekick of a thousand walls but I go by one name, which I will be happy for you to address me as STEM! And yes I do mean the stem of a plant and what not. So, there is really no need for you to introduce yourself to me, I already heard your introduction while you were making that video, I would have showed but it would be a waste of time hahahahahahaha!"

"What do you want?" Becca asked, she was starting to get goosebumps, but she should be more scared than this... Is her mind not registering this?!

"I kinda like you kid, really straight to the point. And, I want you to help me find something, that's the only reason I am here."

"And if I don't?"

"Then you are going to kiss your breathing addicted life goodbye! Comprendre?"

"Oh no."

"Oh yes."

At this time, Becca was ten years old

"let's get to business now, shall we?"
