An Unwitting New Beginning
Chapter 1
In a dark alleyway, a boy lay motionless atop a pool of his own blood, his body riddled with a mixture of wounds and scratches of all shapes, sizes, and depths.
A gunshot to his left stomach left him struggling with every breath, unsure if he would ever see the sun rise again. However, his soulful eyes remained open, the faint light of hope still twinkling within them, even in the face of near certain death.
But... What is the cause of all of this?
How did he get all of those wounds?
Jerome's eyes flickered for the barest moments as he fought back against the pain and exhaustion that was slowly overcoming him.

(That bastard max!)
Through gritted teeth, he grunted in agony as blood streamed out of his gunshot wound, making him even weaker with every beat of his heart.
With his breath slowing and growing shallow, he knew that his time was running out.
Someone nearby smirked in amusement at his weak and desperate attempt.
This person paid no mind to his pain and suffering, simply watching him with a cruel indifference.
Jerome knew that his time was quickly running out, and he desperately tried to fight back against his impending doom.
The person said in a cold but amused voice. As Jerome lay in a pool of his own blood, unable to escape his fate, the person slowly walked over to him and crouched down, looking at him directly in the eye.
Jerome could feel the cold presence, like a chill down his spine, as the person's shadow fell over him. with each shadow breath that he took, Jerome's hope quickly faded away.
Jerome's eyes narrowed in anger, his voice turning cold as he looked up at the person in front of him.

Max chuckled, amused at Jerome's desperate state, as he slowly spoke...

he said, his tone cold and without merc.

Jerome took a deep breath, his strength fading, but he refused to go down without a fight. He raised his arm and wiped away Max's tears with the palm of his hand. With a weak laugh, he spoke:

Just as Jerome's eyes started to fade and close, Max's tears began to stream down his face as he held his lifeless body. He couldn't bear to let Jerome go, not like this. The overwhelming emotions he felt swept over him, leaving him feeling hurt, guilty, and angry. Max couldn't believe that Jerome was gone, and the pain of his absence was like a dagger in his heart. He let out a deep, wrenching sob, unable to hold back the grief that was consuming him.
Chapter 2
Even though Max killed Jerome, he still held a funeral for him and placed his tomb near a tree. In attendance was everyone who knew Jerome, each saying goodbye to him as they mourned his loss.
Max held a deep anger within, struggling to see the fake cry of Jerome's so-called mother, who wept at his tomb like a mad woman. Seeing all the tears for her "son," Max knew that she was just crying for the loss of her moneymaker.
After placing Jerome's younger sister in bed, Max took a seat on the edge of the bed and opened the diary. He read every page of it, holding the evidence obtained as he started crying again, regretting his decision. While he wished to turn back time and undo his mistake, he had no such power.
The only thing he could do now was make sure that Jerome's younger sister was safe and protected, just as her brother had asked him.
Max looked up from the diary and sighed, feeling a mixture of emotions as he took in the contents of Jerico's last message. He felt regret and pain for his actions, but he also felt an even greater responsibility to take care of Jerome's younger sister as he had promised.
With a heavy heart, Max closed the diary and made a solemn promise to Jerico.
This little girl would never know the pain of the world, not while he still drew breath and had the ability to protect and care for her.

In a dark but magnificent church, Jerome stood before a grand altar, surrounded by chanting monks. His heart was filled with longing as he raised his hands to the heavens, his eyes gazing up at the vaulted ceiling above him. As light trickled between the tall columns of the church, Jerome could picture himself flying between the sun and the moon, free and untethered.

When he reopened his eyes again, he was now seeing the ceiling from above as he thought to himself, "Guess...I arrived"
