Jess pov:
This city is killing me slowly, I have been here since uni, and yet nothing has changed, im still living in the apartment, in the same non-existent relationship, and still working jobs that kill my soul every day I go to work.
New York was supposed to be my big break, a chance to change my life, to make my dreams come true, and after one year of living here with uni I saw all them dream crumble to ruins, a series of unforgiving events crumbling my future and present.
At the time, I had a new boyfriend for the frist time I was doing well in my class, I had a full ride I was on track with my life and then it happened , march 3rd toward the end of my first year I was called to the deans office, later to find out my boyfriend has framed me for plagiarism on a couple of my test and the next thing I knew my full ride was cancelled, and I had to drop out of school. The next couple months were hard, having to find somewhere to live, a job on top of that going through a break up and the betrayal and the lost of my dream.
That was 5 years ago, and my 24 birthday was fast approaching, and with no future here in this dammed city of broken dream I need a change so half way through my second bottle of corner shop red wine, on the sofa of my shoe dox apartment apartment listen to the nextdoor neighbors fight is apply for a new job
Job application: personal assistant for ceo of white wolf media corporation.
location: Hallvile Town ,Texas
Starting: 4th of November
Relocation fees include plus housing and other benefits.
The 4th is next week and there no chances in hell I would get the job but if I got the job I would be free and have enough move to get away from here and finally have a new start. so with another gulp of wine, I submitted my application, and as I presented the send button, it was forgotten to the back of my mind.
Four days later, 30th October
*phone start playing no sleep till Brooklyn* "Hello, who's there?"
"Hello, there is this Jess Greyson, I'm calling about her job application."
"Yes, that is me. What can I help you with?"
"Brilliant, last week you summit an application for white wolf media, I would like to inform you that you have been accepted,"
"Wait, really, when do I start and sign the contract?"
"Yes, the job starts on the 4th, but I need tou down on the first to get you settled in to your new place and area as well as signing of the contract."
"Wait, that in two days' time, I don't think I could move my stuff by them, and we'll as getting my documents sorted by then"
"No worries, Miss Greyson, the company will be sorting that all out. The only thing you have to worry about is packing and you new life, I have to now miss Greyson I will call you on the first when then moving vans will arrive and I will email you your fight ticket and then we will meet at the airport over here, see you soon miss Greyson"
With that, the phone call ended, and I was left standing in my shoe box apartment, I sink back onto sofa as I try to work out what had just happened.
31st October : Jess Pov
I wake up with a headache, and I want to go straight back to sleep but as the event of last night play thought my mind, I have a job at white wolf media, the second biggest media company in Texas.
This has to be a joke or some sort of fever dream brought on form last night. Why would they hire me and a 20 something? University drop out with barely a penny to my name. what could I offer that company.
After trying to work out, if it was real or not, I opened up my email to fine my future lying in wait
Dear miss Greyson, this is formal acceptance to the position of Personal assistant to the CEO of white Wolf Media, the details of your job will br given on sign the contract and the moving trucks are scheduled for 8 tomorrow morning and you ride to the are port will be at 8 15 with ypur fight being at 9 00, you ticket are below we look forward to see you,
White Wolf Media Corporation
oh god it real its really happening, I know I could just email them and say no thank you but this is my ticket out of here a fresh start with a stable pay check and life, so why not, what the worst that could happen.
Looking around my apartment I look to see what I could pick up and see it this way I realised I have nothing, I have a small TV from the 90 I got form a second hand shop, the sofa and bed came from the landlord, I had nor kitchen stuff only one set of knife and forks and a couple set of chopsticks from the takeaway place that round the corner, my wardrobe was in a worst state I had three pairs of shoes and two of them hand the heel falling off and the other pair are the ones I saved for special events if they ever happened, I had 4 top, 3 dress and 4 jeans and one handbag and a travel bags that finally will come in to use for once.
After half an hour, I was done packing my whole life up, and it only being 1 in the afternoon I decided to go charity shopping, I imagine that most people in my situation would call there family to give them the news or there friends to go shopping or have celebration drinks at the frequency bar, but I have no one, my family long gone and the ones still around not long want me around, moving to a new city isolated me and then what happened with my ex just cut everyone off from me and there has not been a lot of chances for connecting with new people when working every hour of the day to keep a float and not die starving with the rats.
10 mins later down the street, I arrive at my favourite place, the vintage shop thought I could never get anything in there I just loved to look at them and today I was feeling like spending my fun pot.
There in the window stands my only remaining dream, a 1980 aviator jacket, light brown, and her perfect size.
The shop kept. Susan promised to keep it to the side for her,, but her time limit had gone, so now if she wanted it, it was now or never.
Heading in to 'Back to vintage', hoping that her months of saving will be each to finally get the jacket.
"Hey Susan"
"look I can't hold the jacket any long for you okay I have to sell it, I'm really sorry"
"I know I'm finally here to buy it"
"what really your actually going to get"
"Yep, so if you would be so kind and go get it for me"
"Yeah one second"
Bring the jacket round to the counter laying it gently on top of the counter, I run my hand over the fur soon it would hopefully be round me keeping me warm in this city of broken dreams.
"Right that's 120, cash or card"
opening her banking app and going on the saving account where 163 pounds lies, she had enough not even that but more.
"Card please"
with that the jacket was hers once the card was accepted she picked up the jacket and wrapped her body in it, even though she would not need it as much in Texas it would come in handy for the winter months.
"Thank you, and goodbye Susan"
with that she waved good by to her and head out the shop, she manage to complete one of her dreams, she managed to have something for her self that no one could take way.
Still having money in the saving pot, I head to a small in the wall café that is stacked in between the run down builds and apartment builds, Lord know how they were able to stay aflot, Main gusse is the local gangs. But they had good food and kinda cheap food.
Big Mamas, quite literally the owner Jess only replied to Mama, she calls her self the mom of the block and her customer are her children. She is a sweet woman but a force to be rreconnedwith.
"Hey mama"
"Hey sweetheart, How are you, have you been eating okay"
"Yeah Mama I'm good, and you know I'm going to eat well because I'm here"
"Okay now, go take a seat and tell me what you have been up to"
Taking my favorite seat at the counter, I told Mama everything that had happened since I last saw her.
"... and now I'm moving to Texas for a job"
"Sweetheart that brilliant, sad that your leaving me all alone but brilliant I'm really happy for you, know let's get some food down you."
"Thank you, and you won't be alone you got Your sons here Mama."
"Yes but I won't have my daughter"
with that she disappeared in to kitchen. leaving me to be alone in the cafe with the sound of clashing pots and pans to keep her company
