For all his life, Chen Xiaoming was a man of habit. He boarded the same bus, got up at the same time, and went to the same little cafe around the corner from his office to order the same coffee. If he was being really honest with himself, his life was predictable, comfortable, and a little boring. However, that was how he preferred it. No shocks.
Chen saw a young woman standing close by one sunny morning when he was in line at the cafe for his typical coffee. Her gaze remained focused on the menu board, as though she was considering her options carefully. Chen was drawn to her because of her elegant appearance and the way her raven-black hair fell over her shoulders.
Though he was certain he recognized everyone who frequented the cafe, he had never seen her before. Still, this enigmatic woman was unfamiliar. Chen could not help but be pulled to her presence. He kept watching her and saw that she was chewing her lower lip in contemplation, which he found to be a charming gesture.
The woman finally decided what she wanted to do and went to the counter. When Chen saw her order the same latte he normally received, his pulse raced. It appeared as though destiny had joined forces to unite them.
When Chen's latte arrived, he suddenly had courage. He made the decision to start a discussion. "Nice decision," he smiled broadly and gestured to her coffee. It's my first choice.
"The woman raised her head and met his. They had a tinge of surprise about them, and they had the hue of warm chestnuts. "Oh, really?" she asked, her lips pressed into a kind smile. "I'm trying it for the first time."
They spoke with ease, as though they had been friends for a long time. Wang Meili was her name, and she was a curator for an art gallery. Conversely, Chen worked as a software developer. They talked about their dreams, lives, and their favorite books with each other. It seemed so perfect, even though neither of them had anticipated this connection.
Chen and Meili's laughter rang through the cafe as they sipped their lattes. Hours had gone by while they talked about their mutual appreciation of classic literature and art. Chen had entirely forgotten about the day he had so carefully laid out.
After a while, when the sun started to set behind the city, Chen plucked up the nerve to ask Meili if she wanted to get together again. They exchanged phone numbers when she consented.
The bond between Chen and Meili grew over the next two weeks. Together, they visited art galleries, strolled through parks holding hands, and had a ton of dinners. Their bond grew stronger every day, and every moment they shared felt like a scene from a romance film.
Chen's life had changed from being routine to one that was exciting and full of love. One evening, under a sky painted with the hues of a setting sun, they looked into each other's eyes and realized they had stumbled upon something unexpected and lovely.
Thus, a wonderful love tale that was anything but ordinary and that neither Chen Xiaoming nor Wang Meili could have ever imagined started to take shape in the middle of the city, among the bustle of daily life.
