Chapter 1

Everyone told me about you but I was so foolish thinking maybe just maybe you didn't approach me for your sick and twisted games, I through maybe you'd changed and really felt like I did towards you

We had something good going on but I never said I was going to spend the rest of my life with you, that was your own foolishness so don't blame it on me

And I'm tired Minseong, you and I both know things just weren't working out, I tried loving you but I just couldn't, I'm sorry that you feel like I was in it because of my sick and twisted games

Minseong wiped her eyes then took her bag and left
After Minseong left Taejin went to the kitchen and got some headache pills and after drinking them he went to his bedroom as he had work to do
He took his laptop and went back downstairs, to be honest he wasn't in the mood but he wouldn't let his personal life interfere with his work
He spent the rest of the day busy until a quiet voice called out to him

I'm sorry to disturb you sir but dinner is ready and already set on the dining room
The older woman looked timid as she knew never to disturb him while he was working

I'll finish up and come eat thank you
Miss Choi nodded her head then bowed to him and left
Taejin looked back at the screen to finish reviewing the documents that his secretary sent to him, when he was done he closed the laptop and headed to the dinning room
The meal was well cooked and he found himself enjoying each and every bite...the table was filled with different dishes which made him feel a bit lonely, it made him miss home, his mother
Miss Choi was the first lady he had hired that has managed to stay for over a year, the previous housekeepers didn't meet his standards and were fired less than three months in the job
After his meal was done Miss Choi cleaned up, leaving the room sparkling
She then went to seek him out yet again
Miss Choi
I have finished everything for the day sir, is there anything else you want to be done before I head home?
Taejin shook his head and waved his hand to dismiss her never taking his eyes off the laptop screen, he continued working until he was interrupted by the vibration of his phone
Taejin let out a deep sigh before he answered

Father, what do I owe the pleasure?
He already knew what he's father had to say
Kang Yeohan
I know you think I called to ask for the millionth time when are you planning to return home but not today son
Kang Yeohan
Your mother is in the hospital
Kang Yeohan
She collapsed earlier and the housekeeper called the ambulance, she's been worried sick about you and that maybe the reason why she fainted, your mother is very concerned about you not coming home
Kang Yeohan
I'm heading to the hospital as we speak so I'll know what's wrong, is it too much to ask you to atleast come for a few weeks and spend some time with your mother?

I can't just up and leave dad and you know that, I have a company to run...I'll clear my schedule and book a flight for next week, for now please keep me updated on mom's status
Taejin heard his father sigh

Then there's nothing for me to say, let's hope you won't come up with excuses for not showing up again
It hurt when his father said that, reminding him of the time he had missed his mother's birthday
His flight had been delayed due to bad weather but his father still thought it was an excuse not to show up
His mother was everything to him so even the reminder of how she probably felt when he didn't show up as he had promised still haunted him
Even leaving home was a difficult decision to make as he didn't want to leave her behind but he had to make a name for himself, having everything handed to him on a silver platter didn't sit well with him
That was the sole reason he left to finish his studies in Australia, eventually he opened his own entertainment company which was now very successful without any help from his father
and that gave him a piece of mind, everything he had or owned was from his very own pocket and he was very proud of that

I'll come...please take good care of her and thank you for calling
He waited for his father to disconnect the call as not to come off as rude
Their relationship hasn't always been this rocky, once they were very close but later on they never saw eye to eye, his father disagreed with his goal of becoming a business man as he wanted him to be a detective like himself
Taejin wouldn't become something he didn't like even if meant starting a fight with his father hence why he left to get away from the pressure his father placed on his shoulders
He was never pleased with anything he did, thinking about it all made his headache come back but this time he wouldn't drink any pills or he'll become dependant on them
Today just wasn't his day, he sent an email to work for a board meeting to be called first thing in the morning then closed his laptop and went to get water
Taejin drank the whole bottle and went to shower before bed
Taejin talked with the board members that he would be flying to Korea as his mother was sick and in the hospital
At first they had thought it was stress until his father called in the morning letting him know how serious her condition really was
apparently there was a tumor growing in her brain and she had to undergo surgery as soon as possible but his mother refused to be operated on until she saw him
His father told him that she feared she might not wake up as the doctor's told them it was a critical operation and that there's a 50/50 chance of survival and dying
Taejin's brain had shutdown when he heard that and he decided not to waste any more time which brings us back to the meeting held
Board member
We understand your reasons Mr Kang, when are you planning on leaving?
Kang Taejin
This afternoon, I'm sorry that it's such a short notice but I've already had a chat with our CFO and although I'll be gone for a short time I'll still be managing the company along side with him
Kang Taejin
and I will also have the opportunity to finalize everything needed for the start up of our new branch
Board member
That sounds like you'll have your hands full, I wish you luck and for your mother's surgery to go well
Taejin nodded his head in appreciation, the board meeting was then dismissed
Kang Taejin
If you'll excuse me, I have another meeting with the staff
He found everyone already seated waiting for him, he took a seat down and got down to business, he announced that he would be taking some time off work to manage the new branch leaving out his mother's condition

How long will you be away sir?
Kang Taejin
I cannot estimate the time for now but it won't exceed two months and besides my time off there's business I have to take care of in Korea
The staff nodded their heads recalling hearing their boss announce a possibility of opening another the company on his hometown
Kang Taejin
If that all then the meeting is dismissed
Taejin got up and headed to his office, took everything he'd need and left as he had another meeting outside the company, his day was busy and exhausting but he couldn't manage to slack off
As the day was coming to an end, Taejin called his secretary to let him know that he would be traveling with him as he needed all the help he could get
Kang Taejin
I'm sorry for telling you at last minute hyung

it's quite alright sir, I would have been worried had you decided that you were leaving me behind
Kang Taejin
Why is that Minseok hyung?

Because then it would mean I wasn't doing my job well enough

I'm quite satisfied with your work so never stress yourself about that

That very nice to hear, thank you sir and please don't stress yourself too much about your mother, from what you've told me she's a strong woman she'll be okay
Minseok knew although his boss kept his emotions locked up he was worried sick about his mother's condition and his voice was a dead giveaway as he sounded like he wanted to cry

I know...thanks hyung by the way I told you to call me by my name when we're alone

I remember you drilling that in my head a millionth time but it still work hours so I'll call you sir
Taejin shook his head at the stubborn male and signed in defeat

The two disconnected the call and later that day they flew to Korea
Chapter 2
Their flight finally landed in Korea after 2 hours in the air
Taejin and his secretary Minseok waited for their ride then went straight to their hotel
Kang Taejin
Hyung...I'm going to the hospital to see my mother, I'll probably not be back till tomorrow so don't wait up
Minseok
Okay, I'll see you when you get back
Minseok followed Taejin outside to see him off
Taejin took a cab to the hospital, the car he was going to be renting for the time being would arrive tomorrow

The man nodded his head and drove off

Taejin payed the man and rushed inside, worry was eating him inside out
Taejin went straight to the reception

Excuse me, I'm looking for Mrs Kang Soojin, she was admitted here a few days ago
Nurse
May I ask your relationship with the patient sir?

She's my mother
The nurse nodded her head and typed on the computer then looked at him

Mrs Kang is in vip room number 302
Taejin nodded his head and went to look for his mother, if she was still in her ward room then she was serious when she said she wouldn't be operated on until she saw him
He found the room and pushed the door open
when his mother saw him a huge smile broke through her face
His father turned to look at the reason for her smile and found Taejin standing at the door with a worried look on his face

Taejin-nah you're here
she beckoned him to come to her
Taejin smiled and went to give her a hug, he had missed her so much
Kang Taejin
I'm here mom, I'm sorry it took so long for me to come see you
He hugged her tight and she rubbed his back gently
Kang Soojin
It's okay Taejin, what's matters is that you're here now, I missed you so much sweetheart
Kang Taejin
So did I mom to the point it was driving me crazy
He heard his father scoff but decided not to pay it any mind
He released his mother then turned to look at his father

If you're mother wasn't sick you wouldn't even be here
Mrs Kang scolded her husband

Can't you say you missed him too and stop being so bitter towards our son Yeohan?

I see no point because as soon as soon as you get surgery he's going back to Australia leaving us behind yet again

I really don't want to fight with you dad, can't we atleast pretend to get along for mother's sake?
Taejin's voice sounded tired but his father didn't respond

You know you really haven't changed a bit father, you're still not pleased with anything I do, all I ever wanted was your support and for you to be proud of me for making a name for myself

But I'm still not good enough in your eyes and yes I'll be going back to Australia but not as soon as mom's surgery is over and done with, I wouldn't do that to her

I plan on staying for atleast a month then I'll go back

I'm sorry that I'm still not good enough dad, I'm sorry that I choose to leave my family behind but I will never apologize for choosing to chase after my dream instead of living your own
Taejin's voice was breaking, it really hurted when his father treated him like this

I'm sorry mom, you probably don't need this right now, I'll go outside and get some air for a bit then come back
Taejin left closing the door gently behind him

Are you happy? Taejin is really having a hard time too you know

No child finds it easy leaving their parents behind but he had too because you were too selfish and only wanted him to do what you desired of him

If you continue this saga of yours we'll both lose him Yeohan
And at that moment Soojin felt an excruciating pain in her head making her ears ring painfully
She grabbed her head and closed her eyes to will away the pain she felt
Yeohan was immediately on his feet

Should I call the doctor?
He was really worried but his wife shook her head

Just give me a moment it will pass
Yeohan looked like he was debating whether to listen to her or call the doctor

Are you sure you don't want me to call in the doctor?
It took a while for the pain to dissipate unlike usual

It's still bearable although the pain took longer than it usually does to pass

What do you mean it took longer than usual? Has this happened before? and if so why didn't you tell me about it?

I didn't tell you because I thought it was just a passing headache and that was stupid of me I'm sorry

I feel like a bad husband for not knowing you've been feeling all this pain for quite some time

There's a chance that I might not wake up...I'm scared of leaving you two behind and you still don't get along

He wasn't really angry at his son, in fact he was proud of the man he'd became
He only just wanted Taejin to come back home but the direction he was going with was driving their son father away and it hurting their family

Taejin went to the rooftop to cool off
He felt like crying but he wouldn't, crying was but a weakness he didn't want his body to get used too
The night air was nicely cool blowing on his face

As he went in futher on the rooftop he saw a figure seated dangerously at the edge of the building
He noticed that her shoulders were shaking as if she was crying
He didn't want to intrude but her seating there meant only one thing, she might be thinking of throwing herself off the building
It was as if she heard him because just then she turned and looked at his direction
Taejin was struck by her appearance, from her small face to her big glassy eyes
His heart skip a beat and he swallowed hard

I'm sorry to intrude but can you borrow me a little of your time?
He didn't know what he was doing but he hoped it worked, seeing her sitting there made his stomach twist and turn in worry
The woman looked at him and blinked her eyes

Why? You don't even know me?
Kang Taejin
I don't even know myself but can we please talk for a moment?

And it would be nice if you got down from there, you're sitting very dangerously to the edge, one wrong move and you'll fall
The woman signed deeply and wiped her teary eyes
She got up only to slip and she let it a scream in fear
Taejin felt his heart lip out of his check and extended his hand grabbing her at last minute and pulling her to him only for the both of them to land painfully but safely out of harm's way

Are you crazy? You almost fell? Do you care so little about yourself that you'd do something so stupid?
The woman didn't respond still on top of him, she hid her face in his chest and sobbed quietly
Taejin didn't know what to do so he stayed in that position and let her cry
Kang Taejin
Whatever is it that you're facing will pass with time just don't take the easy way out
Taejin found himself saying
It took a while for her to calm down but when she did she untangled herself from him and got up
Kang Taejin
There's nothing to be sorry about, you needed to release your emotions I happened to be here

Just don't do that again, next time I won't be here to stop you as we met by coincidence

We all go through a lot in life but ending your suffering this way is a sin and will only burden those you left behind

Taejin grabbed her hand and pulled her gently towards the exit
He told the doctor she had gotten hurt and they treated her wound, luckily it was just a small scratch

Seeing as you're okay now I'll head off
The woman nodded her head and Taejin left although his heart refused to and his body wanted to stay next to her side, he only hoped she wouldn't be so recklessly again
He was gone for a while and he was sure his mother was worried by now and his father had cooled down
The atmosphere was a bit different than when he came

I was getting worried, I thought you went home

Something came up but I wouldn't leave without telling you first
He grabbed himself a seat but before he could actually sit his father spoke

Taejin looked at the man then his mother who gave him a smile and nodded her head indicating he should follow his dad
Taejin bowed at his mother and followed after his dad
They walked in silence, Taejin saw that his father was going to the rooftop
An image of the woman he met earlier flashed through his mind

Father maybe we should head outside, the air is nice and cool
Mr Kang didn't respond but changed his direction to show he heard him

You're mother suggested I talk with you and she was right...I just don't know where to begin

I'm the sole reason why you had to leave home and I'm very so for that, It must have been a hard decision for you to make

Peace was made just like that between the two stubborn men
They walked for a bit longer enjoying the night breeze and each other's company while catching up on this and that
Mrs Kang finally agreed to get surgery and signed the papers

I know but I'm doing this because I know they wouldn't let go even if I'm deemed never to wake up, it would torment them

She signed the papers that gave the doctor's leverage to switch off the machines if something were to go wrong during her surgery like being braindead

Doctor Song chuckled lightly then smiled, Mrs Kang was a very charming woman

After that Dr Song left the woman to rest
When Taejin and his father came back they found Mrs Kang sleeping peacefully

Well would you look at that, we left for quite some time and she finally fell asleep

Seeing as your mother already fell asleep you can head back to the hotel and get something to eat, you did say you didn't get to when you landed

The air has became chilly now so wear something warm and get some rest, you're probably jettlagged as you came straight here

I'm okay father, I don't think I'll get any sleep until I see mom come out of the operation room safe and sound

I'll go shower and bundle up then I'm coming back, in the meantime you should head home too, you've been here since she was admitted, I'll stay here with her

I really want to refuse the offer but I'm not that young anymore and my body needs rest, sleep will be foreign to me also

Taejin nodded his head and kissed his mother's forehead before he left
Chapter 3
Mr Kang and Taejin outside the waiting room as Mrs Kang's operation had started, they were both scared anything can happen inside those doors but they prayed she was okay
Taejin went to the hospital's bathroom and washed his face, his mother was still resting so he went out to buy flowers for her
When he came back he found his father already there and he looked like he didn't get a wink of sleep

She pointed at the bouquet of flowers that were in Taejin's hand

They are mom, last time I didn't get the chance to bring them on your birthday to see that pretty smile of yours so think of it as my apology

Taejin handed her the little box

She extended her arms and hugged her son close

Birthdays come each and every year sweetheart, so stop tormenting yourself about the past and thank you for the gift and the flowers are beautiful
She released him from the hug to open the box, she found beautiful pair of earrings and a matching necklace

This is really beautiful Taejin but it must have cost a fortune, I don't need gifts like this as long as I see my handsome son

She had a lovely smile and Taejin couldn't help but smile along with her

Just then the doctor's came and told them they would be taking her away
And that how it came to them being in the waiting room, they were both worried sick but they knew she was a fighter
After long hours of waiting the doors finally opened and the doctor's came out looking tired
The head surgeon came and spoke to them

Mrs Kang's surgery was a success, unfortunately you cannot be able to see her at the moment as her surgery is a critical operation, we still have to monitor her condition and do CTR scans to see if everything is okay

For now I suggest going home, I'm sure you're both tired after sitting there for hours

Taejin and his father bowed to the doctor, he also did the same then left

The two released sighs of relief
They were allowed to see her a few days later and she really was okay

I'm okay Taejin-nah, no headache or any discomfort

Well the worst has passed so rest assured by the way someone promised to help put on my new accessories
She handed Taejin the box he gave her a few days ago
Taejin took the box and secured the necklace around her neck, his hands were shaking so it took quite some time to lock it

She could feel his whole body shaking, she gave him a smile then she wore her earings
Taejin took a photo of her and handed her his phone

She winked at him and gave him a thumbs up
Taejin hugged her and finally he broke down and cried

She rubbed his back soothingly
Mr Kang sat there and watched shocked to see Taejin breaking down in his mother's arms
He looked so strong that he thought he was handling it well but seeing him now made him realize how well the boy could hide his emotions and that broke his heart because he was the reason for that as he always told him emotions were one's weakness
He'd become a better version of himself and never hurt his son intentionally and that was a promise he swore to keep for as long as he lived
he got up and patted his head lovingly

It's okay my son let it all out, there's no reason to hold it inside
After some time Taejin was finally calm and he decided to announce that he was coming back home

I'm going to start a business here in Seoul, I have been considering it for quite some time and decided to share with the company and we came to an agreement that ig would be good for the business

Both Mr and Mrs Kang looked happy at the news

A week passed by and Mrs Kang was finally released from the hospital

The rest of the morning the two spend chatting and later on the day Taejin helped his mother cook dinner

That how he met Taejin who had volunteered to help everyone who fell victim to the scammers by providing the best lawyers who handled their case and won in court
They all were able to get their hard earned money and assets back
