A Life Twined With Vines

Episode 1

Yuuna, a girl with black hair, hime cut. She is ordinary, and there’s no better words to describe her other than that. Average height, low scores, quiet, introverted, music-addicted, draws, writes, delusional, that is all she is. Growing up in a not-so-wonderful childhood, she, surprisingly, did not become like those typical ‘bad kids’.

She likes cats, she likes the darkness, she is phone-addicted, she has anxiety, she is sometimes energetic. She is nothing more than ordinary.

She’s probably going to live an ordinary life if she didn’t find this place today. She was walking around the community casually, wearing nothing special but a plain white T-shirt with short gray skirt and a pair of slippers. Her community was small, and she usually takes a casual walk there.

She was humming a calming melody, looking around the community. There were no people around at this time, 5am in the morning. She was not a morning bird, she just hadn't fallen asleep yet until this time. She doesn’t hate the world outside, and it’s not that she loves staying indoors. She simply hates having people around.

How contradictory. She likes being alone, yet she craves attention.

She was walking around in silence until she stopped by a wall. The wall was covered by vines and roses. It was like a work of art. She walks closer to the wall to examine it closer. “Since when was there a wall like this?” She thought to herself. She doesn’t remember having such a beautiful wall in her community. Behind the wall was a river. The community often has water ballet performances that the government did to attract tourists. Yuuna was also there to watch it when she was little.

There used to be stairs at the wall for people to stand on top of the river embankment to watch the performance, but it’s nowhere to be seen now, somehow. She looks at the vines on the wall and the roses… there were spikes on the vine, but she didn’t bother enough to care about it. She puts a hand on the wall, her hands wounded by the spikes. She was enjoying this moment of silence in the morning with the beautiful wall she admired until the vines suddenly twined around her arm and pulled her in. She let out a soft yelp, thinking she’s going to get all wounded by the spikes. She closed her eyes, not wanting to face the moment when she hits onto the wall with spikes… but it didn’t happen.

Author’s chat

The main character is written based on me. The way she looks, the way she talks, everything is the way I am or the way I wanted to be. The scenarios will be based on how I imaged reality to be. Sometimes I wish I can run away from the stressful life I am in now, just like how Yuuna is pulled into a mysterious place. Ask me any questions about the book or myself, I will answer it in the next episode.

Episode 2

After a while, she was dropped to somewhere she’d never been before. She slowly opened her eyes, seeing an identical city as the one she lived in but covered with vines. The sky was bright, probably because the time wasn’t different. It was quiet with no one around, only her in this big city.

She stood up and started walking around, observing this city covered in vines and plants. It gives a sense of doom. The whole city simply seems weird with a feeling hard to express through words. It was quiet without anyone else. You should be afraid, right? But it felt oddly at peace.

Yes, it was quiet, it was lonely, it was unfamiliar. But it gives a weird sense of peace and calmness inside Yuuna’s heart. She started looking around this familiar yet unfamiliar city. She steps into the library, covered in vines, and looks around. The shelves are dusty with spiderwebs on them.

She was wandering around just like that inside the library, looking at one shelf after another. She used to visit this library very often when she was around 10. It was like her little safe place. No one will bother her there, nor will any noise do. She pulls out a chair, dusting off the dust on the chair before she sits down. She looks out the window, admiring this beautiful yet weird city. Yes, it has a sense of doom with all those plants covering the city. But this is simply what Yuuna is searching for in her mind.

She lays her head down on the table, feeling the peace in her mind until… someone patted her shoulder.

When she raises her head, she sees a… girl? Boy? You can’t really tell.

“Hello!” Says the boy. His voice was high pitched, but you can tell his gender by that already.

Yuuna didn’t seem too happy to be disturbed, more so because she didn’t like talking.

“Hello.” She replies flatly. She has a voice people would sell their soul for, but she has a mouth tighter than a lock. She hates communicating, she hates socializing.

“Why are you here?” The boy asks while tilting his head in confusion. “You’re too good to be in this place.”

“I don’t know, but I guess I liked it here better.”

“Do you really?”

“…I guess so.”

The boy smiles softly at her, reaching out a hand for her to take.

“Well, if you want to stay here, why don’t we make this place better?”

“What does that mean?” Yuuna asks, looking confused. She noticed how this boy had yellow eyes with his brown hair. His hair is short, slightly messy. Yes, he wasn’t the best looking, but he gives a sense of warmth not only by his looks but also his voice.

“We will go around this city and clean up all the vines!” Says the boy with a warm smile. His tone was childlike, it was as if he’s a 5 talking about his dream of being a hero.

“…that’s ridiculous.” Yuuna says with a sigh. She looks out the window again, looking at the city covered with vines.

“You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to, but I want to take you with me!” The boy says, still having his hand extended out to her. “Maybe you’ll change your mind midway, who knows?”

“…fine.” Yuuna says with another sigh, taking his hand. The boy’s hand was warm, different from how Yuuna’s was cold. “…what’s your name?”

“Call me Cielo.” He says, helding Yuuna’s hand in his tightly.

Episode 3

After a while of wandering around, Yuuna noticed one thing. It really is empty here. No one around, no lights, no nothing. It was as if everyone vanished, leaving only the city here to rot.

Cielo was still grabbing on her hand, which she doesn’t really understand. It wasn’t that she’s a 5 or something, why does he need to grab onto her hand like she’s going to get lost?

“Here we are.”

Cielo’s voice interrupted Yuuna’s thoughts. When she raises her head, she sees a church.

The chapel was the largest and most well-known one in the city. As an atheist, Yuuna has never been here before. She noticed how the chapel was the only place that wasn’t covered in vines in the whole city, which was odd.

Pushing open the door, causing a loud creak, they enter the chapel together. Inside was bright, even though outside the sun was now setting already, causing the chapel to look more lively.

To be honest, Yuuna quite liked the chapel.

It was quiet, sacred, which also brought peace to Yuuna’s heart and mind. Cielo dusts off the ground before gesturing to Yuuna to sit down, which she did.

She leaned back on the chair, hugging her curled legs while sitting quietly. She kept the emotionless expression on, staring blankly at the bell in the chapel.

“Sleepy?” Cielo asks while looking at her blank expression.

Yuuna didn’t even notice that Cielo was sitting beside her until he spoke. She nods her head, still staring at the bell blankly, “A little.”

“Do you mind leaning your head on my shoulder?”

“Yes.”

“Not surprised.”

Yuuna didn’t feel sorry at all. Why would she even lean her head on a boy’s shoulder and sleep after they just met for the first time?

It’s as if Cielo was meant to be dealing with this kind of personality, he didn’t feel awkward at all. In fact, he found this a bit funny to be straight up rejected without hesitation.

“Alright, alright. You can sleep, I’ll stay up for the night to look out for any situations.” Cielo says with a chuckle. He continues sitting beside Yuuna as she slowly drifts off to sleep.

Author’s chat

I literally only have two episodes uploaded yet and there’s 2 likes and a comment like what. (this means thx)

Ok yes idk why it took me 20 days to upload Episode 2 when I finished it the day I uploaded Episode 1 (I thought no one was going to read this weird stuff okay)

The academic pressure was actually showing these days especially when I’m responsible for a whole bunch of poster making etc bc they think I’m good at digital art.

*There won’t be Author’s chat unless the damn word limit forced me to or someone asked a question etc.*
