The loud explosions wracked the building and made Alishia stumble as she ran through the flames with her baby clutched tight in her arms.
She managed to get out on one of the many corridors and took a left when a loud explosion sounded in front of her. She had to make a quick U-turn in order to protect herself from being hurt.
She took a turn towards another hallway and restarted her mission of trying to get out of the building.
This whole ordeal started about ten minutes ago when she was sitting in the waiting area, waiting to take her baby for her weekly checkup when everyone suddenly heard a loud explosion.
No one knew where it came from, but it caused a lot of widespread panic and fear making everyone scramble to find a way to get out. She quickly removed her neck scarf from around it's place on her neck and used to form a extra protection around her baby.
She quickly fished out her phone and sent a text to her husband before placing it back and running for her life.
Her baby started wailing as the smoke started making sight and smell really difficult so she tucked her closer to her chest to shield her and continued running.
After sometime of running around trying to find the exit, her vision started becoming blurry around the edges and she was stumbling across the corridor.
Her breathing started becoming laboured and her babies wails were becoming less audible. The ceilings were on fire and started crumbling in on them, she tried as much as she could but one of the falling debris caught her leg and her baby slipped out of her hands.
Her wails abruptly cut off which instantly worried Alishia. When she tried to get up and go for her child another falling debris fell on her leg this time making her cry out in pain.
Her baby's cries could still not be be heard and since she couldn't go to her , she started crying for help,
"Help!!Somebody!! Anybody!Help!! Help my baby!! She's not crying please!!!"
No one responded and she herself couldn't get up because of the broken debris still on her leg. She tried pushing it off, but it was just too heavy.
Just when she thought all hope was lost, she head quick footsteps behind her and someone shouting her name,
"Alishia!?Alishia!?Where are you!?Talk to me!??"
Her sobs stuttered as she recognised the voice,"Evan!!Evan, We're here hurry!!"
The footsteps rushed towards her and she saw her husband's face through the haze in her vision and the smoke.
He asked,"Are you okay... you're hurt."
She shook her head as she pointed at where her baby fell,"I'm fine but our baby isn't, I can't here her Evan find her please."
He soothed her and responded,"Don't worry ,I'll find her."
Just as he said this, a particular huge piece of debris fell from the ceiling and blocked his only way of getting to their baby.
Time practically froze as everything seemed to go quiet. He stood there frozen as he stared at the obstacle between him and his child. An ear splitting scream pierced the air as Alishia screamed,"NO!!MY BABY!!"
She tried to push the pice of wood off of her leg but it just seemed to hurt her more, tears were streaming down her face as she kept screaming.
Evan still stood frozen as he stared at her obstacle for a bit more, before he turned around to help Alishia out of her predicament. He manged to lift the debris without hurting her and lifted her up in his arms while doing so. He started walking away as Alishia struggled in his arms to go back,"NO! WHERE ARE YOU GOING, MY BABY IS BACK THERE YOU HAVE TO SAVE HER!!!"
Evan took all her struggles in the form of punches and dared to correct her,"It is OUR daughter and I am helping her."
And screamed,"By doing what?!!Leaving her to die?!!" He responded,"NO, leaving her to become stronger...Don't worry, when the time is right, I will find her and reunite her with us. .I promise."
As if that statement alone triggered her exhaustion, her eyes drooped and she slumped unconscious on his shoulders.
He whispered once more before leaving the hospital,"I'm not leaving anyone of my blood behind, I vow it , she 'IS' my only daughter after all."
And he left the hospital with that vow floating in the wind.
"Two cups of expresso coming right up." I yelled to anyone of the waitresses who bothered to listen to listen to what to what I was saying in this jam packed shop.
I work in a cafe with an all female staff and its apparently a hot-spot for almost all college students especially the guys because they claim this particular cafe has hot staff...I mean coffee. I always add an internal eye roll at that part because come on I work here.
...But I highly doubt that they look at aesthetic beauty here, they really just stare at their asses and drool all over their coffee which is really annoying in my opinion. They are professional perverts, that's why I totally ignore them....
As I was having my internal debate, a fist knocked on the counter and I quickly packed up the expresso and handed it over to her. She in turn handed me a tall list of orders with an apologetic smile. I gave her a smile, "Don't worry, it'll be ready in a minute."She returned the smile and rushed off of to deliver the order.
...Some few minutes later, after I was done with the orders, another waitress came over to me with a knowing grin and my smile immediately turned upside down, "No, No stay away from me, don't come any closer...I mean it, stay there."...
This minx dear readers is unfortunately, my bestfriend, Kiki, and she has made it her lifelong mission to find me a boyfriend. Which I've told her time and time again that I don't want. She grinned as she got closer as she slipped a piece of paper on the counter, and I'm very sure this isn't another tall list of orders, which she confirms by saying,"Oh come on ,just give this one a try, and there's a variety Eve, loosen up a little and at least reply to this letter, I understand you reject the other letters because the guys are perverts, but I assure you, this group is different, they..."
I practically shrieked,"Group of guys!, Kiki are you insane?"She paused at my less than whisper and her grin widened a second later,"Oh come on, I assure you these guys are different, they didn't give any of the waitresses leery looks or anything, they genuinely looked as if they wanted to order coffee...that is until they saw you..." She winked and went back to storytelling,"They started asking multiple waitresses who you were, which is is very obvious by the way, and generous as I am, I decided to go and relieve them of their little trouble since most of the waitresses know you don't like being approached by men."
I facepalmed and sighed as I glared at her,"This are the the moments I wonder how we become best friends, we're complete opposites."
She rolled her eyes as she placed the pice of paper in my palm, "Puh-lease, We're best friends because I'm the only one one who dared to approach you with your whole intimidating aura and all with those white edges on your VERY BLACK HAIR!!"
I placed a palm over her mouth to shut her up and finally relented,"Fine, I'll read the letter but I'm not agreeing to anything." She beamed and handed me their actual order, I turned around to make it and when I turned back around to give it to her, I was met with her less than friendly twin sister, Zara. I gave her an awkward smile as I handed her the tray of coffee. She gave me another one of her indecipherable looks as she left.
We're not friends but in a way she came with Kiki, a whole package deal, they were always together and I've never seen her smile once since I moved here 2 years ago.
As I worked on the counter, I risked a glance at the men Kiki was talking about. 4 huge men with very very intense gazes and I quickly diverted my gaze to do something. I never looked at their table again until the end of the day.
Everyone left leaving me alone to close up the shop, again. I hanged up my apron, removed my hair net and combed my fingers through my pitch black hair...with white edges, as Kiki already said.
This hair of mine used to attract the attention of a lot of bullies when I was in middle school and high school, but as soon as I moved to this town to start college, people just assumed it was hair dye because many girls my age were into dyes these days and used to do all kinds of colours.
I removed the rubber band from my wrist and used it to tie my already very sloppy hair into a ponytail. I switched of the lights in the whole room and took my overcoat from the entrance before locking the place up and slipping the keys in its very secret compartment, beneath the doormat.
From here to my home is about a 10 minute walk, so I never bother to order an Uber. Although today about 5 minutes through the journey, I felt a presence behind me...Just kidding, I actually heard multiple sets of footsteps behind me.
My footsteps doubled in speed as I tried to leave these people behind. When I was approximately 2 minutes to my house, one particular footstep seemed to also double as the person fought to try and get to me. And soon enough, a hand grabbed me by the shoulder and I screamed bloody murder as I fished my pepper spray out of my overcoat pocket and sprayed it in the person's eyes.
"Ow! shit ! what the hell?!" the person cursed and I confirmed by the baritone of the voice that it was a man. I took advantage of his temporary pain and ran all the way back home. I quickly locked the door behind me as soon as I climbed up the stairs to my bedroom but not before removing my overcoat hanging it on the coat rack. I whispered as took the steps one at a time,"That was close, they almost got me."
I went into my bedroom, took off my uniform and neatly folded it into my wardrobe before going to take a shower. I quickly finished and went into my walk in closet to get prepared for my night ahead. And by getting prepared, I meant get prepared to sleep to rest for my classes tomorrow. I sat in front of my dressing mirror and quietly observed myself. I took off the damp towel from my hair and lazily dried my hair. I got up to wear my pajamas when I was done and I took quite some time because of my generous behind and sides.
I huffed in frustration as I tied my hair in a simple bun and walked out of the closet to my bed. I pressed a button on my nightstand before falling on the bed and going lights-out. Not even bothering to cover myself with a blanket.
