Zara Haroon.
Zara was woken up by her alarm ringing beside her bed. She looked at the time which said '4:30' she rubbed her eyes and sighed deeply. Then she convinced herself to get up from the bed.
She felt dizzy as a wave of sleep hit her. She had stayed up last night as she was studying an article of Dr.Edward Jenner. She immediately regretted staying up however she then got ready for her work.
After almost 40 minutes, Zara was all set up for her work. She wore Dark blue scrubs her white coat and her stethoscope around her neck. Zara had moved to US with her mother 12 years ago when her parents divorced. Her brothers stayed with her father as for her she stayed with her mother. Her father remarried and had a son while her mother remained unmarried.
Her mother, Bakhtain Malik, was the only daughter of a rich family in Pakistan. She was a talented interior designer and had an arranged marriage with her father, Turaab Haroon, who was a famous and rich businessman.
The reason behind their divorce was unknown to their children but one thing was sure that their family had been broken long ago.
Zara dismissed her thoughts as she sat on the bed. It was 5:12 which meant that her mother had woken up. Just as Zara thought about her life she felt a bitt empty inside her.
She always felt a weird feeling.. She had everything one needed. Money, her mother, her two older brothers, her father, A good job.. but she always felt a little empty inside her.
Although her parents were divorced and lived in different countries she still stayed with them occasionally. And her brothers did the same. So she met them and even her job was just what she wanted...
"Zara, honey, Are you awake already?"
Her thoughts were broken by her mother's voice. Bakhtain entered her room dressed in a lavender shalwar kameez and wearing a purple shawl covering her head and shoulders.
She was in her early 50s, had some wrinkles but still she was beautiful. She was holding a bead chain (tasbeeh) in her hand as she stroked Zara's head.
"Ma Sha Allah! You look beautiful."
"Thanks, mum." Zara replied as she smiled back to her mother.
As if Bakhtain sensed her daughter's feelings she asked.
"Beta, You don't look well.. Is everything okay? Is something bothering you?"
hearing her mother's words Zara felt stunned. How can her mother know her so well?
Zara then sighed and decided to discuss it a little.
"I don't really know mum. I mean.. I have everything I need but I don't know why I feel.. A little empty.. it's as if there's something lacking in my life.. but I don't know what it is."
Upon hearing her daughter's words, Bakhtain's expression turned a little worried.
"Honey... Did you pray?"
"uh.. no. I totally forgot." Zara replied as she hit her head playfully.
"Zara, Meray bachay.. Praying is necessary. I am sure this emptiness of yours will be gone when you pray!"
Just as Zara was about to speak her phone rang. She looked at the caller and a small smile appeared on her face.
"Mum, Saim is here. I will leave now! Byee! Take care!"
Zara ran out of the room while Bakhtain was left behind shaking her head at her daughter's excitement.
Saim was Zara's maternal cousin. They both grew up together and were declared childhood sweethearts but for Zara he was her bestfriend.
When she got outside of her house she saw a Mercedes Maybach 680. She walked to it with a beaming smile and just then the door to it opened. Zara slipped in and looked at the man sitting on the driver's seat.
Upon seeing the excitement and shine in her eyes the man asked.
"Do you like it?"
"I freaking love it!!" Zara said as she wrapped her arms around the man.
That hug lasted for a second but it had a great effect on the man sitting in the car.
"Saim, Where the hell did you get such a car?"
Zara asked as she explored the car.
"My dear bestfriend, I own a multinational business."
Saim replied in a matter of fact tone as he turned on the engine.
Zara just ignored and patted his shoulder.
"Right right."
