The Ambitious Rachel

The Ambitious Rachel

Rachel, a diligent and determined common employee in the bustling heart of New York City, nurtured a dream that burned brightly within her. Amidst the whirlwind of cubicles, city lights, and fast-paced meetings, she aspired to rise above the ordinary and become a manager one day. Rachel's dedication was evident in her tireless work ethic, her late nights spent studying leadership strategies, and her unwavering commitment to the success of her team. With each challenging project and every step up the corporate ladder, she drew closer to her goal, never letting the daunting skyscrapers of the city deter her from achieving her dream of guiding and inspiring others in the corporate world.

Rachel was unwavering in her conviction that hard work was the sole route to success. To her, the sweat and toil were not just means to an end but the very essence of achievement. She approached every challenge with an unshakeable resolve, seeing each obstacle as a stepping stone to her dreams. Rachel knew that success wasn't simply a matter of luck or talent; it was a product of relentless effort, discipline, and an unflagging commitment to improvement. In her world, the equation was clear: hard work equaled progress, and progress was the only true measure of success. This belief fueled her daily pursuits, driving her closer to her goals with every determined step she took.

The monotonous life of a full-time worker as Rachel, consumed by the demands of the job, often unfolds like clockwork. Each day blends into the next, as they rise early, commute to work, and immerse themselves in tasks that seem endless. The precious hours outside of work are scarce, leaving little room for personal pursuits or cherished moments with loved ones. The routine can be draining, leaving them feeling like mere cogs in the machine of modern society, yearning for the elusive balance between work and a life truly lived. In this relentless cycle, the pursuit of fulfillment and meaningful experiences can sometimes feel like a distant dream.

In the midst of her mundane daily routines, an unsettling disruption unfurled, an unfathomable and deeply concerning natural phenomenon that defied the very laws of gravity. People went about their usual activities when an inexplicable force seemed to scare the world. Objects and people were suddenly crushed to the ground by an inexplicably powerful force of gravity. Panic rippled through the city. The foundations of science and understanding quivered alongside the anxious hearts of those who had taken the force of gravity for granted. It was an unnerving reminder of the fragile equilibrium that governed our planet, leaving every scientist powerless in the face of an unknown force and consequently also its sudden and inexplicable lethal variation.

The sudden increase in gravity within localized spaces is frighteningly unpredictable. People fled in terror as their surroundings transformed into deadly traps. Buildings crumbled under the crushing weight, cars were flattened like tin cans and death can hide in any space on the ground. Survival hinged on frantic efforts to escape these gravitational pockets. Very soon it was clear that salvation can only be achieved by getting closer to the sky in skyscrapers or inside any aircraft, where the increase in gravity is much weaker. Rachel was overwhelmed by a wave of people who wanted to reach top floors of the building.

In those moments Rachel thought he was climbing the summit but not in the way he had imagined. From the large windows of the sixty-seventh floor you could only see devastation like a bombardment that don't come from the sky but from the core of the planet. A macabre and absurd thought takes shape in Rachel's head. Now it would be easier to make a career with fewer competitors. Sure, but being the manager of a company in the midst of the apocalypse wouldn't have made sense like her ambitions in that situation.

Rachel's frustration and dismay lead her to think about the amount of time she had spent on her job, sacrificing her interests, her passions and her entire life. If she had foreseen the end of everything she would certainly have led a more balanced life, which allowed her to enjoy every single moment to the fullest. At that moment the floor began to shake more and more and Rachel fell into the darkness with all the other people on the 67th floor. She woke up scared in her bed bathed in sweat. Rachel realized that the gravitational nightmare wasn't real but it had woken her up from the real dream she had been living in until now. From today it's better to work part time.
