Chapter 1
Riyo is a girl who goes to middle school in Japan.
She's pretty shy and doesn't have many friends, and she doesn't want to stand out too much.
One thing she does enjoy, though, is reading manga, especially romantic manga about two girls falling in love.
She wishes she could experience that same kind of romance in her own life.
Riyo
"My name is Riyo. I'm just a normal middle school student, but in my fantasy life.
Riyo
I'm always imagining being in these romantic situations.
Riyo
Where I'm not so shy... and I have a girlfriend who loves me back."
Riyo was looking forward to going back home from school, so she could continue reading her favourite manga series.
Suddenly, though, she noticed her classmate, Tomo walking home as well.
Tomo seemed a little sad, so Riyo decided to try and talk to her.
Riyo
"Hey, Tomo... are you okay? You look like you're sad about something."
Tomo was startled to hear Riyo's voice, since she didn't notice her behind her until just now.
Tomo
"O-oh, Riyo... I didn't hear you coming up."
Tomo's face is a bit red, as if she has a crush on someone.
Tomo
I'm just thinking about something that happened during recess.
Tomo
Don't know, it's stupid. I'm okay, though."
Riyo decided to talk back to Tomo, feeling invested in her story now.
Riyo
If you want, I can always listen to you.
Riyo
What happened during recess?
Tomo was surprised, since usually girls didn't show much interest in things she had to say.
But Riyo seemed different.
She was kind and a bit mysterious, like an angel.
Suddenly, Tomo's face turned as red as the sky itself.
Riyo's heart was beating like a drum at Tomo's sudden change in expression and blush.
She noticed how cute and innocent Tomo looked, and began to imagine how she would look all blushy if Riyo confessed her own feelings to her.
However, Riyo didn't want to say anything to Tomo that would ruin their friendship.
So she decided to just listen to her instead.
Tomo took a deep breath and continued to tell her story about what happened during recess.
Riyo's eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected story.
She was even more surprised when she realized Tomo was blushing even more than before.
Riyo
"I... don't know what to say.. Tomo.
Riyo
Who was the person who kissed you?"
Tomo stayed silent at the question, a little embarrassed but also happy.
Like she wanted to tell Riyo more, but didn't know how to.
Riyo decided to take a guess... did Tomo like Riyo?
If so, then they could both have their happy, romantic endings!
"Tomo...do you, um, like me??"
Tomo's face became flushed at the question, and she could feel her throat becoming scratchy, like she was about to say something she shouldn't.
She was about to say "yes," but she didn't.
Tomo
"I... I like you too, Riyo, as a friend.
Tomo
It's... just a guy who kissed me, not someone I like."
Riyo felt her heart sink a bit, but she decided to stay positive.
She could still have her own happy ending.
Tomo just wasn't going to be part of it.
After their walk home together.
Riyo was feeling more and more sure that she liked Tomo in that way.
And even if Tomo just saw Riyo as a friend, that wouldn't stop Riyo from continuing to feel this way about her.
However, she couldn't find it in herself to admit or confess her feelings for Tomo yet.
Since she wasn't sure what the right choice was.
She felt like her crush on Tomo was this secret that she had to keep hidden... for now.

Chapter 2
She immediately went to her room and closed the door.
She didn't want anyone to see her feeling so sad and conflicted.
She was feeling all sorts of emotions, but one feeling won out over the rest.
As much as she wished things could be different, that wouldn't happen.
She'd just have to go on as before, as her own secret crush on Tomo.
She wondered if she would ever have the courage to admit her feelings to Tomo...
Riyo tried her best to carry on with her normal life for the next few weeks.
But every time she saw Tomo, she felt the same butterflies in her stomach.
She tried to find a way to get through her feelings for Tomo and accept that it was unlikely they would get together.
Riyo couldn't help but have her mind wander back to Tomo.
Even though they would hang out together after school, like they always did.
Riyo's feelings for Tomo kept getting stronger by the day.
She knew it was wrong... but she couldn't help but feel jealous of the unknown girls who kissed Tomo in secret.
What would it be like to kiss Tomo's soft, pale lips?
What if... she could... be that girl who kissed Tomo...
Riyo had kept her feelings for Tomo secret for weeks now.
But she couldn't take it any longer.
She needed to know if Tomo felt the same way about her.
So, after school, Riyo asked Tomo to meet with her at her house.
She wanted a private place where she could speak candidly to her about their feelings.

"Tomo... can we talk?

I...I need to tell you something."
Tomo's eyes grew wide as Riyo said that.
She didn't know what Riyo wanted to tell her, but she hoped this was about her confession.

"Riyo, d-do... do you mean, like, tell me that you... that you-?"
But Riyo didn't let Tomo finish.
She wanted to say it herself.
Riyo
"Tomo... I-I like you... more than a friend!"
The words came out of Riyo's mouth, and she couldn't take them back now.
The tension and nervousness she felt before was gone, because she knew that the hardest part of the conversation was already done.
Now it was up to Tomo to say how she felt.
But Tomo just stood there, staring at Riyo with a huge blush on her face.
She opened her mouth to speak, but only a few words came out.
Tomo
"N-no... no way... r-really?"
Riyo, her close friend since they were little.
Tomo's eyes were wide as she took in Riyo's confession.
She had no idea that Riyo felt this way, and felt even more shocked that Riyo liked her first.
But Tomo felt like she couldn't just leave Riyo hanging...
She had her own feelings for Riyo, but they felt so complicated now.
Tomo
"Riyo, I-I have to say... I also like you... more than as a friend."
Riyo was stunned to hear Tomo confess her feelings for her.
She hadn't felt this way about anyone for her entire life.

Tomo's face fell at Riyo's question. She looked to the ground as she continued to speak.

But... I don't want to ruin what we have, either... so I understand if you don't want to be with me."

She felt like the luckiest girl in the whole world. And Riyo was feeling the same way.
She couldn't remember a time when she felt more alive.
She knew that this was it, and she hoped it was just the beginning of a lifelong together.
