Turmoil.
The turmoil starts during Emperor Chu Liang's reign, during his second half of life when he marries a humble woman and makes her a concubine.
An emperor has many women in his harem, yet because of her beauty and pure heart she becomes Emperor Chu's most loved woman.
At a short time after she enters the royal family, she gets pregnant. This event attracts the envy of many consorts and ladies from the harem, even the Empress Chixi's jealousy.
Empress Chixi tries several times to hurt concubine Zhao and her unborn child but every attempt fails.
The empress was afraid that concubine Zhao will give birth to a son and that may put in danger the crown prince's position (the crown prince was only three years old at that time).
Finally, after nine months, concubine Zhao gives birth to twins.
When Empress Chixi forcibly enters the delivery chamber, she finds out that concubine Zhao has given birth to a healthy baby girl.

She instructs her maid to go to a nearby temple and live there in seclusion.
The servant secretly runs from the palace exactly after the birth of the two babies so that anyone won't become suspicious. The people who assisted her to give birth are also silenced, so no one else knows that concubine Zhao gave birth to twins.
Unfortunately, the maid can't reach the temple because she's attacked by a gang of bandits. They steal her money, rape her and sell her at the city's brothel.
She begs them not to kill the child, so they end up together in that place.
No matter what happened to her, she stays strong to protect the new born life.

When the bandits brought the maid at the brothel, she was almost looking like a ghost and the mistress of the house didn't want her, especially because she was holding a small child in her arms, but in the end she accepted and paid for her.
The mistress looks at her with a deep glance and asks her to give the child to a new family but she strongly holds the baby and refuses to give it away.
