Honestly Jungkook couldn’t remember what the fight had been about. All he knew was the long, hard months of being cooped up while they prepared for their comeback had final built up until it exploded in screaming, harsh words and tears.
He couldn’t even remember what had set it off, what the spark that had ignited the flame had been. It had all seemed like a normal afternoon, they were taking a break, one minute they had been lounging on the couch, not doing anything in particular and then Jimin said something dumb or he did and the next thing he knew they were yelling at each other. All the suppressed frustration and weariness on the past few stressful weeks making their words crueller and nastier than they probably meant but in those heated moments it didn’t matter.
Maybe the fight wasn’t about anything at all, maybe it was about venting their frustration. But that didn’t make Jungkook feel any better when Jimin threw his hands up in defeat, yelled ‘screw you Jungkook!’ and stormed up stairs and slamming the door with a resounding bang that made Jungkook flinch.
Jungkook was left standing the living room, breathing heavily, still pissed and feeling lost and light headed as he found himself suddenly alone. He had no idea what to do. Part of him wanted to follow Jimin upstairs and apologise, letting him know he hadn’t really meant anything he had said in anger but another, part of him, a prouder part refused to believe he had done anything wrong. He hadn’t said anything Jimin hadn’t, this wasn’t his fault there was no way he was going to be the one to apologise first.
Stubbornly ignoring the traitorous guilt in his gut he flopped back onto the couch, refusing to think about how Jimin was all alone upstairs. ‘it’s not my fault,’ he told himself again and again as he mindlessly flicked through the channels, never focusing what he was watching as he tried to distract himself. But no matter how much he tried to not think about Jimin his mind kept wandering back to him. ‘I didn’t do anything wrong,’ he thought even as he stood up and walked to the stairs, taking the steps slowly one at a time.
‘I’m not going to apologise,’ he thought as he stopped in front of the door to their shared dorm. Reaching for the handle only to find it locked, unsurprisingly. Tentatively he knocked and waited for an answer. He could hear movement on the other, a sort of shuffling sound and he could imagine Jimin moving around inside. When the answer came it was muffled by the door.
‘Who is it?’ Jungkook actually hesitated before answering.
‘It’s me.’ he said and the shuffling on the other side stopped.
‘What do you want?’ the voice was quiet and he definitely sounded like he was sulking.
‘I wanted to say,’ Jungkook hesitated again. He hated this, hated having to do this. He always felt so out of his depth trying to convey his feelings like this.
‘I’m sorry… for what I said earlier,’ he said hoping he sounded as sincere as he felt rather than just awkward. There was another moment of silence and Jungkook hated the door between them, hated that he couldn’t see how Jimin was reacting.
‘Jimin?’ he called, resting his head against the cool wood of the door, imaging Jimin was leaning on the other side.
‘Yeah?’ Jimin relied still muffled by the door but Jungkook thought he sounded less grouchy.
‘I love you.’ He said a sudden surge of emotion rushing through his chest as he waited, forehead still pressed against the door, still imagine Jimin on the other side, trying to imagine what he looked like, was he happy? Jungkook hoped so.
‘I love you too.’ Jungkook let out a relieved breath he hadn’t realised he had been holding when he heard Jimin’s voice from the other side. He almost laughed at how happy he felt. All the suppressed feelings had dissipated and he felt as though a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He waited for Jimin to open the door but seconds passed and the handle didn’t move. Confused Jungkook tried the door knob again only to find that sure enough the door was still locked.
‘Uh, Jimin, can I come in?’ he asked and the heard more movement from the other side.
‘Well, I mean I want you to, it’s just that…’ Jimin started but he trailed off halfway through. Jungkook frowned at the door. What was Jimin playing at?
‘What’s wrong Jiminie?’ he asked, trying not to sound too concerned.
‘Umm… I may or may not have thrown the key across the room when I was mad at you and now I may or may not be able to find said key.’ Jimin sounded sheepish as he admitted what had happened and Jungkook had to try really hard not to laugh out loud.
‘So basically you’ve locked yourself in the room,’ he asked not really trying to hide the amusement in his voice.
‘…yes.’
‘And you can’t get out because you’ve lost the key?’
‘I thought we had established that?’
‘Okay I was just checking.’ Jungkook giggled and he heard a snort from the other side of the door, like Jimin was trying not to laugh as well.
‘Are you making fun of me you brat?’ he asked but it was clear he wasn’t really upset. ‘Just go make yourself useful and find Namjoon.’
‘What so he can break down our door?’ Jungkook asked.
‘Good point. Go find Jin then.’
‘Okay, I’ll be back in a sec.’ Jungkook said turning to go find the eldest member of their group to tell him his idiotic, wonderful boyfriend had managed to lock himself in their room. ‘Don’t go anywhere!’ he called cheekily.
‘ha ha you’re so funny.’ Came the sarcastic reply and Jungkook couldn't help giggle all the way down the stairs, feeling happier than he had in months.
