I was always the outcast in my father's eyes... Because I never wanted to follow in his footsteps. He was a powerful CEO back in his day and made quite a name for himself, but he was a despicable and abhorrent family man.

The only person who loved me died too soon, heartbroken because of him... I'll never forgive him for that!!

My mother suffered for years under that jerk...

I have two sisters who take after old man Cole and still live with him to this day... Laura, 39, and Maite, 30. They're both snakes in the grass, working at the old man’s company and they hate me, too.

I own the largest and finest law firm you'll find in England... Over the years, I've earned my clients' trust and business. Among my clients are major businessmen, politicians, and essentially the entire wealthy population of this country.

At 35, I possess a fortune many would envy... They call me The Youngest Billionaire in the country!

To manage all this, I rely on my best friend and business partner, Luna... She's like a sister to me, and the only person in the world I care about. She's the only one I can show a bit of affection and tenderness to... We met in college and since then she's been by my side haha...

She claims she's the only one who truly knows me and that one day I'll know myself as well lol... Deluded!!

I have a fiancee... Jade. She's gorgeous and we've been together for five years!

The answer is simple... My relationship with Jade is purely for convenience. It's all about money and there's nothing better in the world, right?

Luna - You sure?

Matteo - Absolutely!

She looks at me and shakes her head...

Luna - Okay... But as soon as a bimbo sits on your lap, I'm outta there!

Matteo - haha Deal!

I close my laptop and we head to the parking lot... We go to our usual club and get a table.

It's 9 pm now, and the club is packed as usual... The girls are already eyeing me, and my heart races at the sight of a gorgeous brunette smiling my way...

Damn... Why did I insist Luna come tonight?

Luna - You’re itching for it already, aren’t you?

She chuckles, looking at me...

Matteo - Of course not... Never!

She shakes her head as I go to get our drinks... The brunette follows me with her eyes, and when I reach the bar, I feel her hand on my shoulder...

Brunette - Hey, Matteo!

She whispers in my ear and I take a deep breath...

Matteo - Hey.

Brunette - You up for...

Matteo - No... Back off!

She raises an eyebrow and leaves... Though tempted, I made a promise to Luna, and I usually don’t break my promises to her.

I grab the drinks and return to our table...

Luna - Didn't think I'd see you again tonight...

Matteo - I made you a promise, didn’t I?

Luna - haha Love you too!

Matteo - You’re ridiculous... You know I just put up with you, right?

Luna - Blah blah blah... Seriously though, there are some good-looking guys here tonight!

Matteo - Hey!

Luna - What?

Matteo - If I can't, you can't!

Luna - haha Right... You said I’m single, I need to find someone!

Matteo - And you want to do that tonight?

Luna - Yes... I'm going to talk to that guy over there, wish me luck! haha

She walks off laughing and I stay drinking at the table...

My name is Emma Green... I'm 28 and I work as a waitress at a diner nearby. I lost my parents three years ago; my mother passed away from cancer and my father couldn't bear living without her...

They were incredibly close, and I always knew that my dad wouldn't be able to survive her passing. We found out about the cancer when I was 15. It was a shocking and sudden blow... She had to stop working, and my dad had to put in extra hours to try to afford her treatment while keeping food on the table.

I wanted to drop out of school to look for a job to help at home... But my mom forbade it. She said she'd rather die than have me do that. When I finished high school, she wanted me to go to college... But I needed to work to support my dad!

It was so hard... Watching her waste away before my eyes. She was always so full of life and an exceptional mother. Even with the illness, she never gave up, always trying to cheer us up... A positive outcome was a cause for celebration for her, and the negative was another reason to be thankful.

I learned a lot from her and plan to be for my children what she was to me... A warrior!

We battled the cancer for ten years... Ten years of winning fights, and in the end, we won the war so she could finally rest.

It was God's will... She always said that!

Today I live alone in the house they left me... When I marry Danilo, we'll live here!

Danilo, 30... Emma's boyfriend!

Danilo is the man of my life... we've been dating for 8 years and are getting married soon. We're saving money for it... Saving every penny to make our dream come true. He currently works at a big company... The only issue is it's not here, it's in the neighboring city... Two hours away, he can only come to see me every other week.

It's tough being so far apart from him... But it's for a good cause.

I have a friend... The best! Haha..

Asher was an angel God put in my life... I met him here at the diner, he's the manager. I came here desperate 7 years ago asking for a job... he took pity on me and gave me the work. Since then, he's been a big help... When I lost my parents, he was the one who helped me get by. Danilo couldn't come, and I would've been lost without Asher.

When we go out together, I have a hard time keeping the girls off him... We've even pretended to be dating to get them to back off.

There was a time when even Danilo thought we had something going on because I talked about him so much... But I made it clear to him that it was just friendship.

Emma - Boss... The kitchen chef asked me to hand this to you.

I say as I enter his office...

Asher - I've already told you that’s not your job!

Emma - Whoa, someone's riding high today lol

He smiles and exhales deeply...

Asher - Sorry, kiddo... It's these documents stressing me out.

Emma - You need a girlfriend, that's what you need!

Asher - I’m good without one!

Emma - Lol, I'm a woman, remember?

Asher - You don't count... You're the only decent one in this Godforsaken world! The rest... I want nothing to do with!

Emma - Stop kidding around... You'll find the right woman someday!

Asher - Not holding my breath... But until she shows up, I guess it's back to the paperwork!

Emma - Alright... I'll leave you in peace!

Asher - Hey... When are you starting college again?

He smiles at me... He knows I'm hesitant to start. It was one of my mother’s last requests and I haven't been able to fulfill it yet.

Emma - I will!

Asher - When?

Emma - I promise, next semester, okay?

Asher - Perfect... Let's go out this weekend to celebrate then!

Emma - You asking me out? Lol But I'll have to rain check... Danilo's coming this weekend.

Asher - Hmm!

His expression sours as he goes back to look at his documents... He's not a big fan of Danilo since he didn't come when my parents passed. He's told me over and over to break up with him because he doesn't deserve me.

Emma - Don't make that face!

Asher - I'm not making any face!

Emma - I'm sure you guys will be great friends one day!

Asher - That's never going to happen... Forget it!

Emma - Stop calling me that!

Asher - You're like a little sister to me... I can call you that lol

Emma - Ugh!

Asher - I’m still going to see you with someone who deserves the amazing woman that you are. Just don't forget, I'm the one who'll walk you down the aisle... Your uncle made me promise!

Tears flood my eyes, and Asher stands up...

Asher - Sorry... I didn't mean to upset you!

Emma - It's okay... I'm okay! Well, let me get to work, haha!

I leave and close the door... I take a deep breath and head to my station.

It still hurts to talk about them... Asher occasionally brings them up, trying to ease the pain. I know he means well, but I'm still not ready to talk about them without feeling so much pain.

This morning I woke up with a horrendous hangover... Spent last night downing drinks. If only I had someone to be with... I wouldn't drink this much!

Today's the worst because my office is swamped with tasks and I can't afford to be late or skip it!

I rise and head for the bathroom... Pop a headache pill and step into the shower. I let the water wash away the stench of alcohol, then I start to get dressed.

I slip into my suit, tie my shoes, and adjust my tie...

Grab my watch, my wallet, and head downstairs... The breakfast table is set as it always is.

Marta - Good morning, sir!

Marta's been our housekeeper for 8 years... The only one who's stuck around this long, the rest always quit.

I don't reply and she stays put. I sit at the table and she serves me coffee.

I sometimes think Marta knows me better than I do... The coffee's as strong as I need it to be.

I finish my coffee and get up...

Matteo - I won't be home for lunch!

Marta - Yes, Sir!

I grab my briefcase and leave... The driver is already waiting with the door open and I step into the car.

Matteo - Straight to the office!

Driver - Yes, Sir!!

It's a 40-minute drive to the office... He parks right at 8 a.m. and I go inside. I like arriving at this time because there aren't many people around... I detest having to greet these folks.

Those who know me don't even make eye contact as I pass... Believe it or not, I've fired people for wishing me a good morning!

Is it such a crime not to want to talk?

I press the button for the private elevator... Only Luna and I use this lift. She uses it mostly when she's with me. Unlike me, she's a sociable person!

The elevator arrives and I step in, hit the button for my floor, and head straight for my office!

When I arrive, my secretary gets up and by her expression, I know something's up!

Matteo - Whatever it is... I'm not in the mood!

Secretary - Sir...

Matteo - Damn.. Didn't you hear me? I've got a headache and zero patience... You wouldn't want to annoy me!

She lowers her head and I walk into my office...

Luna - What's with the performance?

She enters just as I take a seat at my desk...

Matteo - I'm not feeling great today, Luna!

Luna - And when do you ever? Haha

Matteo - Not in the mood... It's your fault I woke up with such a splitting headache!

Luna - My fault?

Matteo - Yeah.. If I had gone out with the babe who was flirting with me, I wouldn't have drunk so much!

Luna - Haha You drank because you wanted to!

Matteo - Happy now, huh? You probably hooked up last night!

Luna - Shut the hell up and get to work... Your clients are waiting!

Matteo - Clients?

Luna - Did you hit your head, Matteo? Mr. Jose and Mrs. Luana!

Matteo - Damn!

Luna - You've been chasing a meeting with them for months and now they're here, you're going to screw it up?

Matteo - I'm on it!

I grab the folder with their company information and proceed to the meeting room...

Matteo - Mr. Jose... Mrs. Luana! Sorry I'm late.

Jose - It's all good, my boy!

Luana - An advantage of age... patience! Haha How are you?

Matteo - I'm well... Please, have a seat!

Jose - You're quite persistent.

Matteo - Persistence is how I got where I am!

I crack a smug smile and he returns it to his wife...

Luana - You sound like my husband when he was younger!

Matteo - Then I'm honored!

Jose - No, my dear... I was arrogant and presumptuous, my wife changed that! Ha

Matteo - I see... But I was only speaking the truth!

Jose - Yes... but sometimes our determination brings consequences. Thankfully, love can heal us!

Matteo - Ha... I've got nothing against those who believe in love. But for me, it doesn't exist!

Luana - You're still young, dear... You will learn the meaning of that word.

Matteo - No offense, Mrs. Luana... Just not for me!

Jose - I used to say the same haha

Luana- You just haven't met the right woman yet!

Matteo - There's no right woman for me... She doesn't exist haha

Jose - I will see you married and in love with a woman someday haha

Matteo - Married, yes... I have a fiancee, and our wedding is soon.

Luana - And yet you don't believe in love?

Matteo - Love is overrated.. People value something so trivial! But back to business...

Luana - As Jose said... We will see you head over heels for a woman someday haha

Jose - Yes... But let's get down to business!

Matteo - Exactly... Well, your company is a dream for any law firm worth their salt. Your annual revenue is exceedingly high and there are many who'd take advantage of that. We run a serious firm and treat our clients' companies as our own... No other firm does that. I'm strict, yes... But 100% honest, and I demand that from my employees.

Luana - We did our research before agreeing to this meeting.

Jose - Yes... And you come highly recommended!

Matteo - Our clients are our best advertisement haha.

Jose - Yes... Dear, it's your call!

He looks to her and she looks back at me, smiling...

Luana - We'll sign the contract... But only because I know you'll change your mind about love!

I hand them the contract which they read and sign...
