Whispers could be heard in the room. The candles were dimmed as they started to burn out. In the room, fashionable furniture was placed in it. The table that was at the corner was made with very high and expensive mahogany. The chairs were also made with the same kind of wood. The reddish-brown color of the chair displays a reddish sheen when polished and it darkens over time. The wood that was used had a straight, fine grain, relatively free of pockets and void. Only the rich could afford the wood that was used to make the chair. The bed that was placed in the other corner of the room was also a rich-quality bed. Made with fine texture materials. Almost every inch of the room had a beautiful and expensive work of art.
The people who were whispering to each other were sitting on the chair, with a worry faces. Faces that showed agony, concern, fear, and worry. The woman who sat across from the man could help to fidget her fingers nervously. If care wasn't taken, she surely would pass out anytime soon.
"Th-They are c-co-comimg for her", said Clovis nervously. She was getting anxious and anxious. She was getting worried and didn't know what to do. Her heart was racing frantically and it could explode at any moment.
"They are and it's all your fault", mumbled softly Neil but his expression gave him out. He was angry, scared, and furious at the same time. He too was hopeless.
"My fault?how?for giving birth to her on the day of Red Moon? what of the other women who gave birth at the same time I did", said Clovis. It wasn't her fault for conceiving the time the Red Moon appeared. But other women also did, didn't they?
"Ha! so funny. Those other women gave birth seconds before the Red Moon showed and some After. Our daughter cried out the instant the Red Moon appeared in the sky." Spoke Neil. He knew it wasn't Clovis' fault for conceiving at that time but what could he do? She was even the one that made the promise. A promise that she wasn't supposed to make. She just wanted to live. Wanted to live with her husband, so she traded her daughter's future.
"I'm sorry, everything is my fault. For conceiving and making that promise to the people. Moon can save no one. She doesn't possess any ability. The Red Moon didn't give her any sort of power. But no one will listen. How can she save the cursed Prince when she hasn't even saved herself?hmm?"Muttered Clovis.
Her poor baby was going to be given to the Cursed Prince. She was considered the savior. She was going to save the Prince from his curse and the people from the curse. Just because she was birthed at the time of Red Moon, they thought she could be their savior of them. They even called her Moon. Some even brought the idea of calling her Red, a nuisance set of people. They should give out their daughter to the prince, but they wouldn't.
Every woman in this life wants a man who they can have to themselves only. And not the one who chased after the woman's skirt. Clovis didn't believe in such a thing. The prince was cursed with a high fetish. What sort of curse was that? No one could place such a nonsensical curse upon someone as it didn't make any sense.
"Come here", said Neil and pulled Clovis into his arms. "Everything will be alright. When they come for her, we shall offer her willingly. She's old enough to make decisions for herself."
"I hope everything is going to be fine. What if our baby doesn't meet expectations?what if she doesn't want to ever share her husband but there's nothing she can do? what if-"
Neil interjected and said "Let's leave the 'what if'. Everything will be fine, I'm certain. I have this feeling that Moon will overcome everything. Or have you forgotten that she's our girl? fine, I know she's the pawn we used to save her lives but she's still the daughter of ours who we love dearly."
Clovis sighed, her head was placed in Neil's chest and she spoke, "I will talk to her. I will tell her she's betrothed to the Prince. I'm sure she will get angry. You know, she hates the Prince and calls him Man *****", said Clovis and chuckled.
"He's certainly a man *****", said Neil. "Let's go to bed, the candles are burning out already", he said and stood on his feet with Clovis. They got onto their bed and lay on it. Sleep was far out of reach for them. The possibility of 'they' coming to take their daughter at dawn was high. 'They' had come last summer but because their daughter hadn't yet become a woman, she hadn't seen the monthly flow, she couldn't be taken.
When she saw it, they sent a message to them and told them about it. But since then, they hadn't come back. Who knows when they will arrive? they might come on a day they didn't expect. But today, the reason why they exaggerated was that they sighted the Raven. The Raven was only used by the 'They'. It certainly was a sign that they were near. Their daughter will be gone soon from here, to be the Cursed Prince's Moon and the entire Kingdom's Moon. Moon, is the only savior. Everyone surely wanted to be saved.
A few times back, when Moon was growing, the people in the Kingdom usually came to pay homage to her. She was like a god. They all worshipped her as their god because the God above surely had forgotten them. But God sent them a human-like god on the day of the Red Moon. The one who will save them.
From what actually? What will a little and pretty girl like Moon save these people from?
Unbeknownst to the couple, their daughter, Moon, was standing at the door eavesdropping on their conversation. She had been suspecting them for a while now because they'd been acting suspiciously, and now that she finally knows what was going on, she couldn't help but feel bad for herself.
She sat on her bed and reasoned about how her life as the Prince' wife would be. She would be a wife to that Man *****. A whole she, Moon Dandelion, the spoken savior of the people. The one who the people bow to.
Moon stared at the burning candle and heaved a sigh, she thought of how exhausting her life would be after she gets married to the Man *****.
All her life, she had pictured how she wanted her future Husband, he will be a man from a middle-class family. She doesn't want an extremely rich Lord, she wants to live a quiet life with her husband and children. They would be a loving family and before then, before she can live a quiet life, she would prove to the people that she isn't anyone's savior. But now, all those pictured lives have begun to shatter, who is she to picture a quiet life and a middle-class husband when she will be wedding the Prince himself? The Prince is the successor to the throne after his Father.
If not anything, she wouldn't care about getting married to the Prince, they could both grow feelings and live happily ever after but, the Prince is a *****. A skirt chaser, eating women's tofu was all he was good at. He even had a harem named HARVEY HAREM home where all sort of unethical activities takes place. He was certainly a **********. How would she wed a man who will chase after women's underwear all in the name of a CURSE?
In this age and time, who would ever lay Fornication as a Curse on someone, it was wrong, absolutely wrong. There were so many other things one could have cursed upon him, but no, whosoever that cursed him gave him a high libido.
Was it good? Certainly not. She is the one that will suffer the consequences. She will witness her husband ravishing women who weren't his wife. She will have an adulterer as her husband and what will she do? Nothing, absolutely nothing all in the name of a curse. No woman will ever want to share her partner and she is a woman, she wouldn't ever want to share her man just because he is cursed. And again, she wouldn't even be able to satisfy him for fear of dying under him. Rumors had it that any woman the Prince had for a night…my bad, the Prince doesn't have a woman for a night, he always had women. Those women will be pushed or carried out by morning because they wouldn't have the energy and strength to walk for days.
She hadn't seen the Prince before but just the rumors alone made her hate him because of how he fornicates, can't he just keep himself for his future bride?
Moon lay on the soft and comfortable bed that her parents weren't the ones who bought it. As we all know, she is like a god, worshipped by the people, and just that made her the privilege to free things. She closed her mind and tried to sleep but she just couldn't. She tossed and tossed on her bed before she got up and walked into her closet to get her favorite gray coat.
She tipped-toed and got out of the house, walked to her left, and headed for the lake. The lake was just a few meters away from her home, so she trekked there without any source of light except the moonlight that shone brightly in the sky. On arriving at the lake, the moon was reflecting onto the water making the lake shine like a diamond. This was the place she usually came to clear her mind whenever she was having problems.
She looked around and searched for 'HIM' wondering whether he was somewhere close today but sadly he wasn't. This 'HIM' was someone she met on the night when she came here. She had seen him at his worst on that faithful night. All he just needed was a lending shoulder and she gladly offered him. That night, he had told her how tired he was and how he wanted to end it all or maybe he could meet the savior. She was the savior but she was clueless about how she could be of help to him and the people. How can she even save him?
Since that particular day, they had been meeting here. Moon never told him who she was for fear of being captured by him…. haha. Even though he wouldn't capture her or sort, there was a possibility that he did leave his faith with her, he did worship her as the others do and she doesn't want that
"What are you doing here?" She heard someone say. She recognized the voice but it wasn't the one she was expecting. She turned to look at Lord Damascus and gave him a smile
"Lord Damascus, such a pleasant surprise to see you at the depth of the night," said Moon as she bowed her head in a manner of courtesy
"Lady Dandelion, at this time of the night, it's unsafe for a Lady to be out," muttered Lord Damascus. Everyone in the empire knew of how polite, well-cultured, well-mannered Damascus Otis is. He was every girl's dream man but Lord Damascus only had eyes for the reputable and popular daughter of the Dandelion family.
"I'm certain, My Lord but I needed a breathing space because I felt suffocated with the thoughts that filled my mind," explained Moon. She trusted Otis and he was her friend. They mingled together since birth but grew apart when Otis went to serve in the palace as an Advisor. She wasn't aware of Otis even having affection for her because he wasn't her pictured husband nor was the prince.
Lord Damascus looked at the lady standing across from him and smiled, she was the same as before. When they were younger, she normally sneaked out whenever she was having problems, and mostly, her problems were always what no one would call problems. Her problems were mostly people worshipping her like some god. She was against it but there was nothing she could do to stop that.
"I shall escort you home when you are ready to leave," said Lord Damascus. He was indirectly telling her he was going to keep her company
"How nice of you, Otis," mumble Moon. She hadn't called him his name in forever. When they were in their early teenage age, she had told him how his name didn't fit him. She said he was too good-looking to be bearing Otis, instead, he should have borne the name, Aiken. Nice names for good-looking men.
When her mother heard her call Otis a good-looking man, she spanked her on the butt… shh, don't tell anyone that. Her mother had told her it wasn't ladylike for a woman to compliment a man who wasn't their spouse. She didn't quite understand why complimenting a man wasn't ladylike, because men do compliment women.
Her mother had told her that day, "Complimenting a man in his presence seems like you are throwing yourself at him. You can compliment him from afar but never at his sight, those who did that were mostly considered whores. They are the ones without dignity to keep"
Since that day, she had never complimented any man even though it was only Otis she had complimented in her entire life.
"I haven't heard you call my name for a long time, Moon," said Otis as he sat on the ground. There was a large gap between them.
"Who am I to address you by name, My Lord?" muttered Moon as she stared at the lake. She missed those times she and Otis usually played alongside each other. Those times she could never return to. Both of them couldn't even be what they were before. Friends, they couldn't be friends and if they were again, they couldn't be close.
Those rules one abides by were strict and not decent. A Lady mustn't compliment a man, A Lady couldn't be friends with a man, A lady mustn't ever speak back to a man and so much more. Women didn't have the freedom to live their life, they didn't have the freedom to oppose the decisions and actions of their husbands. Women to men are someone whose job was to conceive and satisfy their sexual urges.
But lucky for her, her parents were different. Though her mother had always lectured her about those rules she didn't care any. Love had always filled their home and she also prayed for that but….
"You are my friend," said Otis
"You still consider me as your friend? Well, Males do make friends with the females but not always," mumbled Moon
"Your reasoning has changed, Moon," uttered Lord Damascus Otis.
'How has my reasoning changed?" questioned Moon as she looked up at the sky
"You were always the one who said she did never let those rules laid down by our ancestors cloud her reasoning," said Otis as he turned to look at her.
"I did? We've grown, Otis. I made those talks because I was young but now, I don't ever want to be called a *****. I despise the word a lot," mumbled Moon
"Really? You despise the word but call the crown prince that," said Otis as he laughed
Moon glared daggers at him even though it was unladylike. Now that she thinks of it, her mother had always taught her so many things a lady must do and not do. She also had a governess who taught her writing and reading and also helped to discover her talent which was laziness.
Governess Madeline had complained to her parent about how untalented she was. She was good at sewing, knitting, and painting. She wasn't even good at dancing and instrument playing. The governess tried her possible best but gave up and just taught her the alphabet, and arithmetic.
There was also a time she had been taken to a class where she could learn war strategies. Those things weren't for the ladies but she was taken there for a day and was asked to give strategies to conquer an Empire. She tried her best and never went there again. So all those things were just to prepare her for what was coming.
Other girls also have a governess who trained them but hers were just too much.
"Have you ever seen the Prince before," asked Moon. What does he look like, she wonders. It was a new talk because those who had seen the prince usually talked about how he was quite a sight. The Ladies from the Harem had discussed his beauty and it had reached her ears and others too. None of the women who had seen the Prince wanted their daughter to be wedded to him and if any Lady were to say that, they did face the consequences of their actions from their parents.
Some of the fathers who were the greedy ones wanted to give their daughter to the prince but their attempts had never been successful.
"I have," said Otis
"How is he like? Does the rumor about his face do justice to him or was it all fake?" asked Moon. Even if she were to marry a man *****, at least he should have a nice face.
"His Highness is how the rumor says," said Otis. He reasons why Moon was now curious about the man ***** who she hates. He, is the friend of the Prince, his advisor. The Prince was someone who made rash decisions and it always lead to mistakes. His job was to advise the Prince on how to go with the decisions he made and also give him some advice
"Ok, I'm heading back now," said Moon as she stood to her feet. The man who she was expecting wasn't around but she got to talk to Otis and forgot all her worries.
As Otis lead her home, he couldn't help but ask, "How did you sneak out? Aren't their guards at your home?"
"I'm an expert in this," Moon said and stopped when she was a few feet away from home. She talked in a low manner and asked Otis to leave before she sneaked into her house again without anyone knowing
