On a dreadful, rainy night John Li fought with his stepmother. “ I refuse,” his voice echoed throughout the villa halls. “ I won’t marry a woman I do not know nor love!” His stepmother took a sip from her tea and placed it on the table. “ It’s too late for that, we already planned a dinner tomorrow evening.” Before either party could say anything else John Li’s father, Carl Li entered the room. “ Do not speak to your mother in such a tone, “ he ordered. John exited the room leaving behind four cold words,”She’s not my mother.” As he walked down the halls he left every maid frozen in fear.

The next day John Li, his stepmother, father, and younger sister all stand on the Gong families front porch ready to ring the doorbell. When Carl Li rings the doorbell a tall, senior man opens the door. “This way please,” he say politely. The Li’s follow him to the dinning room where the Gongs awaited. “ Good evening,” Veronica Li greeted them.

“It’s indeed a pleasure,” Carl Li responded.

“Allow me to introduce you to my daughter Angelica Li,” Veronica offered her guest. At that moment a young woman stood from her chair. She walked up to John a reached out to shake his hand. “ My names, Angelica Li, it’s very nice to meet you.” Nobody but John Li was able to see the truth behind her eyes. He saw the anger behind her eyes. “It’s nice to meet you as well, he responded. Everybody sat at the dinner table ready to eat. John and Angelica sat across from each other not saying a word. “Is everybody enjoying themselves?” Angelica’s little brother broke the silence hoping for a positive response. “Of course,” Carl Li responded. The two families started started talking with each other except for Angelica and John. The tall man before silently enters the rooms a approaches Angelica. “There’s a call for you Ms. Gong,” he tells her. “ Thanks butler Wang,” she tells him quickly. “Pardon me,” she tells everybody as she exits the room. “ Hello,” she starts out on the phone. A soft voice picks up. “ How’s the dinner so far?” The voiceasked her already knowing the answer. Angelica rolled her eyes. “Horrible. I don’t eve want to be here right know,” Angelica sounded angry.The voice starts to laugh.

“Well you can’t stay single forever little sis,” the voice responded.

“Watch me,” Angelica tells her confidentiality.”

Angelica hangs up the phone and turns around to see John Li standing behind her. “ What the hell?” Angelica looks unhappy. “Dont you know that it’s rude to ease drop?” John Li smirks and asks her “ If you don’t want to be here then why come?” Angelica smirks back. “Do you think I have a choice?” Angelica walks past him and back towards the room with John Li behind him. They both stop at the door when they over hear their parents discussing. “ I’m so happy you accept the marriage,” John Li’s stepmother said joyfully. Angelica’s mother places her hand on her cheek. “Of course, they’ll be a perfect a match.” The two look at their parents in disbelief with flames burning in their eyes.
