***3000 Years Ago***
" Lady Iris..... Lady Iris....." The man called. " My Lady, you zoned out again. What exactly is bothering you."
" Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that again.... Call in the next person." Iris said absentmindedly.
They were in an elegant office. It was very big with shelves of different scrolls of different sizes all around. Iris's table and chair were on very predictable places since offices like these were almost the same everywhere in their realm.
" My Lady, I simply cannot allow that until you have told me what exactly us going on with you." The man said firmly
" David, are you my advisor or my doctor?" she asked cocking a brow at him.
" I deeply apologise my lady but I can't let you go on like this. It's not good for you.If something happens to you and the races fall into chaos, what then?"
" That is precisely what I am thinking about. I appointed a king for the vampires and an Alpha for the lycans long ago. You are in charge of the witches. I know the three of you are devoted to me. You don't have the short lifespan of those humans. And the most important thing is that I trust you."
After she said those words she summoned the rulers of the two races she mentioned and after a few seconds they appeared.
" My Lady." They said in unison.
" My Lady, what are you trying to say. Please be direct with your words."
Iris sighed and rested her forehead on two fingers and David suddenly felt uneasy. The direction this conversation seemed to be going didn't feel right.
" I'm trying to say.......I want to self-detonate." She said with a tired look.
"....."
" I am tired David. I've been alive for two millennia now. I can't do this anymore. Aside from ruling you, what is my purpose...." She waited for him to answer but when he didn't she spoke again,
" I don't have one, or at least I don't know any other purpose. I just want to rest. I trust your races can live up to my expectations and keep the peace until I am reborn. I will leave it to the rulers.
David I hearby declare that your control over the witches would be passed down to your offspring. Cole rule the vampires well. Drake....you know what to do. One more thing..... David make sure you protect Anastasia and her soon-be-born baby. No harm must come to them."
" Yes my Lady." They all replied and went down on one knee bowing. Iris's body and soul began to dissipate slowly. She smiled softly and said, "Don't disappoint me."
***Present***
I am a girl pure and true to myself...well that's what people used to say about me. My name is Evie Evergreen and I am 18 years old. I was born in America but I've lived in Ghana my entire life.
I had a pretty good life going for me in Ghana. I mean, I was one of those cool girls who was friends with everybody. I had four best friends. Even though they were all boys, they were the brothers I never had. Their names were Marvin, Jason, Christin and Andreà.
My parents told me one day that we were going to move to America, that we would have a better life there. I argued with them for weeks that I didn't want to leave Ghana and my life here but all they said was that their decision was final.
Saying goodbye to everything was going to be next to impossible but I didn't have a choice. They said we would be leaving in the summer.
This was absolutely going to lead to a life I never said I wanted. This was going to be the absolute worst summer ever.......or so I thought.
***3 Months Later, In America***
The Evergreens had moved and settled down surprisingly fast. Gorge and Myra, which were the names of Evie's parents, had found jobs with great pay, probably because they were doctors. They had also found schools for all their kids. This was moving so quickly that Evie didn't like it. Luckily she adapted quickly, still she missed her old life a lot. Before she knew it, it was time to resume school. She wasn't at all excited.
*RING*
Evie woke in the morning to the sound of her 6am alarm.
"Today's the day." She said as she unhurriedly got up from her bed and headed to her bathroom.
" I'm sooo............ Not excited." She grumbled to herself. She took her sweet time in getting ready. Before she knew it she was done dressing up and even applying light make-up.
" Good morning darling." Her mum said stepping into her room.
" Good morning mum. I didn't hear you enter." She said looking at her mum through the mirrow on her dressing table.
" Well, I came to check on you. To see if you actually got up, because I know how much you don't want to go to school." She said, after a long pause spoke again. " Breakfast is ready."
" Kay mum. I'll be down in a minute." She answered and Myra stepped out of the room.
A few minutes later, Evie was walking down the stairs and towards the dinning room when she saw the feast her mum prepared for no reason.
She gave the food a long stare and said, "As much as I don't want to ask, what exactly is going on.....do we have a guest I don't know about?"
" Well, I just felt like cooking this morning and this happened." Myra said with a suspicious look on her face that Evie saw but ignored.
"Fine I'll just dig in then." As she took a spoon, her immediate younger sister, Susie, came downstairs as well.
She too only stared at the food and said," I'm not even going to ask. Good morning." then dug in.
Few seconds after that, Susie's immediate younger siblings, the twins - Joy and James, came along saying joyously, "Good morni- woah" their greetings cut short by the amount of food they saw.
" Just eat and don't bother talking." Evie said. After she ate in silence for a while she thought, * Well, I best not be late on my first day lest I give the wrong impression.* So she stood to clean up after herself and called out to her mum.
" Mum I'm ready."
" Okay sweetheart. Susie, I want you three to be ready by 7.30am sharp. Your bus would be at the bus stop down the street and you must not miss it. Am I clear?" Myra said to Susie, Joy and James.
" Crystal." Susie answered.
" Yes mummy." The twins said simultaneously.
" Okay then, Evie let's go." She said turning to the door.
In their way to Evie's new school, Evie was deep in thought. She seemed somewhat anxious about going to school.
* I wonder what I'm going to meet. I'd probably stand out too much.* She thought and sighed. What she didn't know was that she had been sighing once every thirty seconds.
" Evie. Don't overthink, okay?" In all honesty, Myra was surprised Evie even took the initiative to wake up that morning. She had known how much Evie hadn't even wanted to resume yet.
" I'm just~" she sighed, "I'm just....afraid, anxious, I don't even know what I feel right now. Indifferent maybe, definitely not excited. I don't know."
Myra could only glance at her daughter, after all she was driving. " Don't worry honey." was all she said. " We're here." She said after a while.
" Oh." Evie replied then started looking around for the name of the school. She never bothered asking for it because she really didn't want to know. She looked up towards the roof and there it was. Grandcrest High.
* What a name. Pretty big school too* She thought. " Is it a private school?"
" No, it's not." Myra answered passively.
Evie sighed at her mum's reply and after a long pause she stepped out of the car. " Ok then. Bye mum." She said and with one more self-encouragement, she walked into the school.
Evie was walking through the halls looking for her schedule. *It has to be on a notice board or something.* She thought.
After walking around for a while, she did find it but she also realized that since she missed orientation, she didn't know where she was going. *Damn. I hate being clueless.* She thought.
"Umm...excuse me." She said to the first guy who walked past her. "Can you please show me where class 4b is?" Evie asked the guy with an awkward expression.
"I'm headed there right now. That's my class you can just follow me." The boy said simply. " Also, you are new here, right? Never seen your face before and I know almost everyone in this school." The boy asked Evie.
"Yeah. My name is Evie, Evie Evergreen. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too. The name's Chris Stunner." He answered.
"Cool name." Evie chuckled.
"Alright, this is our class. You can just sit anywhere you want. It doesn't matter." Chris said pointing to a random sit.
"In that case, can I sit next to you?" Evie asked meekly.
"Yeah, you can."
"Can you also show me around later?"
"Was already planning on doing that." He said and smiled. "Let me explain how this works. We have four classes in the morning before a short break then five more classes then lunch. After that, we have clubs, you'd have to choose a club later. It's not everyday we have clubs though. Just on Wednesdays and Fridays." He explained
"Ok. I get it, thanks"
The first four classes passed by like a breeze. Chris and Evie had talked and laughed and sometimes, secretly made fun of a teacher. They were focusing on the explanation a teacher was giving when the bell rang for their short break.
*RING*
"That's the for the short break right?" Evie asked with certainty.
"Yes it is." Chris answered with a smile. "Let's go get a snack from the cafeteria."
"Alright." She said as they stood up and walked out of the class.
"Oh yeah," Chris said remembering something."Before that, let me show you around."
"Right. Even I forgot about that." Evie laughed after her reply.
Chris started by showing her all staff rooms and laboratories then moved on to show her all the classes. He showed her the fields, locker rooms and every other significant and insignificant place in the school in little to no time. After fifteen minutes of walking around, they were on their way to their final destination, the cafeteria.
"Lord! That took all the energy I had!" Evie said with a loud voice after getting snacks and a drink and settling down at a table in the cafeteria.
"Tell me about it." Chris laughed and sat down opposite her. Evie stretched with her eyes closed and when she opened them there was one extra person at their table.
"Hi, I'm Caleb." the guy said before Evie could ask. "In Chris's bestfriend." He announced proudly.
"Nobody asked." Chris said with a smug look.
Evie just stared at them for a second and thought, *Well lucky me. I just happened to meet and make friends with the two most handsome guys in the school and probably the world too.* She wasn't kidding when she thought they were handsome. These were actually the most handsome and popular guys in the school who just happened to also be the smartest. *My luck.* Evie laughed in her mind.
"I'm Evie. Nice to meet you Chris's best friend." Evie finally spoke
"Oh, she talks." Caleb laughed. " Now explain. When and how you guys became such best friends that Chris actually forgot about me."
"Oh, that happened earlier. She's really fun to talk to might as well make her our third." Chris said then gave Caleb a look that he immediately understood.
"Alright. I trust your judgement. Welcome to the clique." Caleb said with open arms.
Evie had been smiling the entire time thinking she was actually really lucky to gain best friends within five hours of being in a school and these guys nonetheless. She really couldn't help but smile. " Thanks then."
*RING*
"That's for our next class. I'm sure you didn't know but Caleb is in our class too." Chris said as all three of them started heading for their class.
"Nope! I definitely did not notice that. If that's true then where were you earlier?" Evie asked
"At the back of the class, being quiet as usual." Caleb replied smugly.
" Of course, quiet as usual." Chris said sarcastically and they laughed.
When they arrived in class they sat side by side with Evie in the middle.

At another side of the class the trio were in, a group of girls were watching them and the one who looked to be the leader or proudest said, " Wow..." she rolled her eyes. " New girl made friends so easily with Chris and Caleb. It took me almost three months to even get their attention. How the hell did she do it?" she said with a very annoyed look on her face. She looked as if she was going to explode with the way Chris was giving Evie so much attention, even if there was no other intention behind it, She liked the guy and she was going to stop at nothing to get him.
"Looks like I'm going to have to have a little chat with that girl." She said.

Time went by very quickly for Evie. Before she knew it it was already lunch. Evie, Chris and Caleb were walking to the cafeteria again to get lunch.
"Finally! I'm starving." Evie said once they got their lunch.
" You really love eating, don't you?" Caleb asked with a laugh.
"Yup. You guys should watch out. I'm a total foodie." She laughed
"How do you manage a perfect figure then?" Caleb asked directly and Evie didn't really mind.
"Well if a girl's a foodie, she has to exersice pretty often don't you think?" Evie asked in reply.
"Makes sense." Chris commented.
After a while of chatting and eating, the three were done and walking towards their lockers to keep some things and take some things. By the Heavens blessing, their lockers were pretty close to each other. *Mother luck is in a really good mood today.* Evie thought, a smile on her face.
As they were walking towards the school bus while asking where Evie lived, a group of girls walked up to them. It was the same girls from earlier.
"Heyyy guys, girl I don't know." The one in front said.
"Oh, this is Evie." Chris stated pretty rudely.
"Alright, I'm Nevaeh, head of the cheerleaders." She said looking Evie up and down.
"No wonder you look so proud." Evie mumble and giggled to herself.
Up close, Evie looked even more beautiful than she did from afar. They were like the perfect friends, the most beautiful creatures in the school. This vexed Nevaeh even more.
"Well bye Chris. See you tomorrow. " She said and started to walk away but stopped right beside Evie and whispered. "Don't dare try to come in between Chris and I, or else..." then walked away.
Evie chuckled once she was sure she was out if earshot.
"Why are you laughing?" Caleb asked.
"Well, I'm sure you guys know that Nevaeh has a crush on Chris. She literally just threatened me to stay away from him." She couldn't stop giggling.
"Yeah. We know that." Caleb sighed in response
"I wish I didn't honestly. She's just so annoying. Yeah she's beautiful and all, She's just not my type. I swear I couldn't have made it clearer, but she just wouldn't go away. Tch, clingy." Chris said in annoyance. They were already on the bus at that point.
"Oh well. Got to admire a girl who doesn't stop at anything to get what she wants." Evie stated simply. " Anyway you said something about us living in the same estate."
"Yes I did" Caleb replied. " We actually do. You said you live in house 13 right?"
"Right."
" Well we live in house 24 in that same estate." He said.
" So we have the same bus stop. I swear I couldn't get luckier." Evie laughed "And also, we?"
"Oh yeah. Caleb and I live together."
"Oh, I see. I also see that we are already at our bus stop." She said then made for the back exit of the bus since they were closer to the back.
Chris and Caleb followed behind her. After walking and talking for a bit, they reached Evie's house. She stepped onto her Porsche and looked back to bid her new friends farewell.
"Bye guys. See you tomorrow." She said waving at them and they waved back.
"Bye."
"Bye."
