Alex opened his eyes with surprise as he found himself in the middle of a vast field of grass. The scenery was beautiful, with mountains rising in the distance and a meandering river flowing towards the horizon. But something wasn't right. Alex didn't remember being here before, and the fact that he still had his virtual reality gear on left him even more perplexed. How had he gotten here? Was he dreaming?
Suddenly, a shadow passed over him. Alex looked up to see a huge dragon of dark red color flying over his head. The dragon landed gracefully on top of a nearby hill, looking towards the horizon with a distant expression.
"A dragon?" thought Alex, amazed. "Is this a virtual reality game or a crazy fantasy?"
As he cautiously approached the dragon, Alex saw that the animal was watching something in the distance, seeming distracted and uninterested in him. Alex gathered his courage and spoke up, "Excuse me, Mr. Dragon, could you help me? I'm lost, and I don't know how to get back to my world."
The dragon looked at him disdainfully and then sighed wearily. "Humans are not welcome here," he said with a deep and bored voice. "But since you are here, why not stay with me for a while?"
Alex was taken aback by the dragon's response, but he couldn't say no to an offer of help. So he accepted the offer and carefully climbed up the dragon's claw.
During the flight, Alex was amazed by the speed and skill of Zephyr's flight. He had never experienced anything like it in his life. As he clung to Zephyr's scales, the dragon explained that his name was Zephyr, and that he was the only solitary dragon of his kind.
Finally, Zephyr landed in his lair, a cave located on top of a mountain. Alex was surprised to see that the cave was furnished with human comforts, like a bed and a table.
"How did you get all of this?" asked Alex.
Zephyr snorted. "Humans passing by here sometimes bring me things. But I'm not interested. The only thing I desire is to have a mate."
Alex felt a bit uncomfortable with the dragon's last statement, but he didn't want to offend him. "Well, I hope you find someone soon," said Alex.
"I doubt it," replied Zephyr with sadness. "Draconian laws forbid dragons from having mates of other species. So I am destined to be alone."
Alex felt sorry for the solitary dragon and offered to keep him company. Zephyr accepted gratefully, and the two spent the rest of the day talking and getting to know each other better. Alex had no idea how he was going to get back to his world, but for now, he was content to be in the company of his new friend.
