IF I LOVED YOU LESS
If I Loved You Less
This is my very first chat story that I'm ever going to write.
In fact, I've not even read any chat story clearly ever before.
I've been observing these chat stories on every platform for years now, and this had made me curious to see how.
But I liked the concept of these, so I did some quick research to finally give my own self a chance to dive right into this trend.
I would not make it full of grammatical and punctuation mistakes as much as I can try. Because I think that takes the charm out of these stories.
Also, since I've no experience writing these chat stories, so I've just decided to go by my own way.
I'd do things which I feel are right, so that reading chat stories won't become mundane for others.
Things may become messy, so please just bear with me as this is all my own doing to take a different route from other authors.
Now, starting with the introduction of the plot I've decided to take on.
I'd just reveal the blurb for now, and throw little details of characters here and there, so as to avoid exposing everything at once.
When she wants him, but she knows he'll never even think about wanting her back.
When she doesn't care about their social status, as her love for him span all and beyond. But he did care, for his money and status.
And how he had never the enough to woo the woman of his dreams.
Inevitably though, he had a friend who supports him at all the fates he can have.
She understands him better than anyone else, and he wanted to become more worthy, if not for her, but the love he was determined to get in his life.
And so he went abroad to earn a name and wealth for himself.
...when she had waited half her life for him to return home.
So that, when he would return,
he would eventually be able to realize her heart, her feelings, and how by being his eager and supportive friend ever, he could find something more in her to keep her by his side.
Perhaps asking for a proposal of marriage from him was like dreaming a little too much.
But she can only hope he'd see her in a new light after they've been apart from each other for decades.
Instead, she found herself compromising on her dreams and desires.
And rather settle for finding her happiness in helping him woo her beautiful cousin sister, whom, unknowingly though, she had known that he had pined for half as long as she did for him.
And the sole reason he wanted to earn himself a wealth and name.
To be worthy of her sister's hand in marriage.
She knew love can indeed be surprising in so many ways.
But she didn't count on her being the audience in her own love story while she would step aside to let other take the stage.
| Character Introductions |
Evangeline Augustus - One of the five daughters of a business tycoon which took the world by revolution with its bold interventions.
Humble, Compassionate and Supportive to her nature's core, she has only ever known to live the life her father made her see.
It was refreshing to see the world as clean and bright from her sight.
Unfortunately, her heart only knows to beat for the one man who realizes her worth but is too dense to realize his own in her eyes.
All her sisters have married for love, and it had been a legacy in her family that men would always fall in love first, for the beauty and grace of the women in her family, time and again.
This adds more to her grief, as she somehow knows deep within her that she might end up being the first to break this legacy, once and for all.
Sebastian Richards - Son of a company's executive, Sebastian understands the expectations directed his way.
He understands he was liable to work, thrive and struggle for more. And he would go crack his head before he would even think about giving up on working for his name and wealth.
For the only woman who made him stumble from his position, and heart, was none other than the woman who belonged to the highest social circles.
He would prove to her, to the world, and to anyone who'd doubt him, that he was worthy of her hand as much as any other men who stood by her side without owing a penny to their hard work.
To start with, he just had to muster the courage to let his feelings known to the woman of his dreams first.
Juliette Weatherby - Daughter of the second leading business personalities in the world of bringing revolution to the people's lives.
Cousin of Evangeline Augustus. Known across the country for her beauty, grace and contagious smile.
Suitors flock around her as if to conquer her tinkling laughter, but soon they realize some things are better to be admired from afar.
And look better alone.
Peter Williams - Second Son of the Partners Industries specializing in producing the revolutionized engines replacing coal trains.
Observant, Reserved and Surprisingly Understanding, he presents as the finest example of the fact that not all riches are spoiled.
It is too early to reveal his love interest out of two, but I suppose the cliché readers can guess who he would go for.
I've decided to try a newer setting, so of course, judging by their appearances and outfits, the story is set rather on a back decade, probably in 1930s when the new revolution was coming in the world, with the onset of rapid industrialisation and urbanization.
I would start the beginning as soon as I would confirm my plot.
And thanks for reading this far.

Skies are Clear as Eyes
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks at the sky* It seems like ages since the sky has been clear like this.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I wonder if it's because it had been polluted with the soot the factory smoke produces more than half of the days of the year.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I am loving the changes the world is going through, but I admit I'm not a huge fan of such gloominess above my head.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
It makes me wonder if people are able to breathe peacefully or their lungs are being suffocated to ruins.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*sighs*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Don't you think you've been getting dramatic too much lately?
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*folding clothes on bed* You make it seem like you've always been at the receiving end of all the evils life has to offer.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Oh, sister. You don't understand the people's plight.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
And you do? Since you've taken upon yourself to help all the poor pleaders of society.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*side eye* You make it seem like I'm having all the fun in the world, Josy.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
But aren't you? As far as father tells, you've been spending too much time with your Village School girls. He worries you'll decide to settle down permanently there.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Such fuss, Josy. I assure you, those girls are as helpless and powerless as we are.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks at her sister*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Even if we are the cream of the society. And women tend to be jealous of us.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*sighs*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*smiles at her younger sister*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I'm happy you know what you wish from life.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*pats her head*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Most people of your age wouldn't know how to knit their undies, and rather roam ***** to preserve their ego.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
On a snide note, even I have no idea how to knit my undies sister.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
You know Susan (maid) does it all.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
But I'm not here to wring the forced responses out of you, Josy. I'm here to look proudly at my nephew.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*stares dreamily at her sister*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
The nephew which is still under development, you mean. You can stare at my tummy all you want, Eva, but after you're done, I want you to make your way to home faster.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
You don't know when the dark would fall upon us. This unpredictable environment isn't soothing at all.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*lays her head on her sister's tummy* My little boy is going to be in his aunt's arms as soon as he decides to visit this world.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I'd not assure myself for it's gender Eva. I can be labouring under the pain of a female developing inside my womb.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*eyebrow furrows in discomfort*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks at her sister's face contorted in pain.*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Then it's a cherry on the cake all the way.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*smiles and massages her sister's ankle*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I'd love nothing else in the world than to harbor a niece who'd sure be the prettiest definition of being graceful, and beautiful among all the girls of her age.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*pokes at Josephine's tummy*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
She's sure to turn some heads around even at her vulnerable age. Oh, the pain of heartbreak the young men would suffer.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*sighs dramatically*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*jumps on the bed to help her sister fold clothes*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
But Josy, I'm sure Alexander would adore any gender. He doesn't look like the fussy male desiring to establish his heir as soon as the world turns over.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*smiles*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I know what he is like. And he is my husband before anything else.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
So you think he wouldn't like for you bring a female in his household?
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*settles comfortably on the bed*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
On the contrary, Eva, if Alexander has his way, he'd love nothing more than to live the rest of his life among his daughters.
Heart Knows What Mind Does Not
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks at her sister in curiosity*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Then does that mean he'd welcome a daughter?
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*smiles in comfort*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Of course, Eva. He'd welcome any child of his. Alexander had been a single son of his parents, and thus has always shown his inclination towards having a larger family.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Oh, is that why he is always too eager to welcome us sisters in his household, and even goes as far as to make the servants arrange a room for us to stay in?
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
His passion for having a larger family and extending such invitations even for his sister-in-laws to make him feel like he is living in a bigger home seems such a delightful thing for a man to do.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
He is affectionate in a reserved way I see.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Such a wonderful husband you got, Josy. You lucky witch.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*Josephine grins*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Proud, aren't you?
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*sighs*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Then again, with the face as yours, you could have chosen any man on this earth, and he would still have felt less deserving of you.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
You add words too much. Nothing in my face exists which isn't in yours.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I don't understand why you have stayed unmarried all this time.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Men choose to chase you, and yet you offer them nothing but your absolute nonchalance.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*glares*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Which, by the way, would never get you married if things kept ongoing like this.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks away*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I don't understand what you're talking about.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I've been friendly with any men who crossed my path. It is they who do not see me as a wife material.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I beg to differ. As far as Anastasia (fifth sister) recounts of the tales, you've been very aloof with your suitors.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Even Vivienne (fourth sister) has eventually managed to let the guy pining for her love finally propose a marriage to her. Is it too hard for you to do the same?
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*pretending to fold the sheets*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I still refuse to accept such accusations. I've always been amenable to any man who approached me for matrimony.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks squarely at her sister* Which is actually counting to no man. All they ever want is a friend. And looks like I'm the finest example of a female species they can ever think about having as a friend.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
You degrade yourself too much, Eva. There's no way in the world no guy ever approached you for his interests in you.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I would never believe your exaggerated claims.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*smiles bitterly*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
So you do not. Whatever helps you feel at ease.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Maybe as you say sister, there is something wrong with me after all.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*scoffs*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
There is nothing wrong with you. If anything, you don't realize your own charms.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
At less than half your age, even Anastasia had barracks of proposals sauntering around her. The richest wanted to marry her, the humblest wanted to cherish her.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Yet she chose the one-man nobody of us expected her to choose.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*stretches her arms and yawns*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
No wonder he end up becoming the love of her life. He had fought with some of the great personalities related to our father, for her hand.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
And even managed to single-handedly defeat some of the strongest residing in power to save her reputation.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
It was brave of those pea heads to spoil our sister's image just because she refused their proposals.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Yes. Even though Valentine had no hopes that he'd ever be chosen by Anastasia in this life, he still chose to defend her honor at the stake of his own image.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
For how long he had just been around our sister, protecting her and everything she would do or not do.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Even the crows in our balcony knew the guy was crazy in his head and heart for her.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
But knowing our dear Anastasia, she would just spend her time whining about her new suitors to him.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*sighs*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
While not knowing a potential suitor sat ahead right in front of her eyes. She was utterly blind to think a guy of such a wealth and power as Valentine would just be there to accompany her at all the events and occasions.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
But the poor guy also accepted her words of rejection as it as, when he finally developed the courage to reveal his feelings for her.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Sometimes I think women are downright crazy in rejecting men in such a cruel fashion.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
They are, because they do not know their own hearts deep down.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*looks in distance* Some do, but they don't have the privilege of a choice in such matters.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Huh? Is that the same person we're talking about?
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*stutters* Of c-course. It's Anastasia for God's sake.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*adjusts in her seat* I remember the look on Valentine's face as he came to see her from afar for the last time, before leaving.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
That's why you offered him to take your bunny with you. To save him the death due to grief.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
But I could already see how his farewell was starting to affect Anastasia, when he did not even go as far as two steps from our house.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
No wonder our sister went crazy for him in the end.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
He fell first, but she sure fell harder. I'm glad she had the recognition in the right time, otherwise she would have regretted that decision of letting him go her whole life.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*smiles sadly*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I still remember how teary her eyes would look every time she came down for breakfast.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
She refused to chat with us, and spent all her time alone in her room. Maids complained of her denying lunch and dinner, and how she fainted at the end of the week.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Don't even talk about that time. I was freaking out just by the thought that Anastasia had got that infamous deadly chill from somewhere who nobody had a cure of.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I thanked my stars as soon as I saw those crumpled up letters on her desk. The poor girl was trying to write Valentine a letter to explain her reasons for rejection.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Turned out, she just messed up things more. Valentine didn't reply to any of her letters, as he had left for America at that time, heartbroken to his core.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
But returned with the winds of lightning as soon as he heard of her illness.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
I remember how we all four stuck beside the wall to listen to their angsty banter.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Anastasia was a fool. To let go of a man like him. Her words stuttered in her throat, and it was satisfying to see her break down to tears in front of him, along with her feelings for him as she went into fits of coughs.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
And how our dear brother-in-law just sat there in shock as if a thunder had clogged his ears.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
I remember how you wanted to shake his shoulder-
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*glares* And how you crushed my foot to pieces instead. I remember that very clearly sister.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
The only reason I spared your hairs that day was because that was the time our dear Valentine brother-in-law decided to finally snap out of his senses, and wasted no time to lift Anastasia in his arms.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
Oh, what a sight that was.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
And though you closed our eyes for the next event that followed, I assure you I heard and felt exactly as what I was supposed to see with my eyes.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*grins in delight*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Yes, your evil eyes are open even at the back of your head at the time of such emergencies.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
But you can't deny watching him go on his knees to propose to Anastasia was not the finest example of a fairy tale we ever would have got the chance to see, behind those closed doors, would we, sister?
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
And it looked like though Anastasia defeated me as the youngest sister, by marrying before me, it sure looked like that was the same night Valentine had worked "very very" hard in showing her his utmost devotion and undying love for her.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*raises her eyebrow in interest*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*coughs*
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
As Anastasia has her first daughter in Valentine's arms already, while you still seem to be developing my first niece/nephew from you.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
This contrast seems convincing to mention as you had already been married for a year by the time Anastasia got engaged to her fiance.
Evangeline Augustus [FL]
*winks playfully*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
*narrows her eyes*
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
Such a cruel thing for you to point out, considering you knew of the circumstances under which I married Alexander.
Josephine Augustus (eldest sister)
And the misunderstandings that ensued thereafter.
