"Come out! I don't have all day," a tall muscular man with long orange hair and brown eyes said as he stood on an empty cliff. Instead of a response, creatures with zombie-like appearances, unhooked jaws, and eyes hanging out their socket appear from the ground and limp toward him.
"Sending your underlings. How annoying," he says with disgust as his face scrunched up in a scowl.
After hearing this, the creatures sped up as much a possible as they go in for the attack. The man uses hand turn a bright orange, which then create a hammer out of rocks from the mountain causing the weapon to have a little dent, and uses it to smash most of the enemies.
When he does the creatures turn into goop and go toward the others to combine with them. He then creates a giant wall to block the creatures jumping over it to kill the rest.
"Now come out! Once again I DO NOT have all day," he exclaims getting upset. He then hears soft footsteps from behind him and turns to see a person with one red and black eye, a small mole on their chin, and a long silver ponytail. The goop slowly moves toward them, and they seem to collect it in their hand allowing it to intertwine with their veins, turning them black for a few seconds.
"Finally. Let's make this quick," he says as he tilts forward a bit, with one of his hands up and the other holding the hammer very close to the ground.
"Are you sure you want this to end so soon Theseus, it might be your final hours," they say as they slowly walk towards Theseus, smiling as if he just told a joke.
"Shut up and fight me!" Theseus says as he runs towards them and slams his hammer causing both an earthquake and his weapon to break.
The mystery person simply jumped up and kicked Theseus away toward the edge of the cliff they were fighting
on.
As Theseus tries to get back his movements the mystery person teleports to him and rips out his heart as it slows down its beating. A small gasp escapes from Theseus and he stumbles back luckily not falling off the edge. They look at the heart for a while and take a small bite.
"Told you to watch what you say did I not... Ew what do you eat? Your heart tastes way worse than the other ones I've had," they say as they throw the heart off the cliff with a look of disgust.
Blood starts to slowly fall from his mouth as he stutters "y-you may have won n-now but I'll have the last la-laugh." He then stumbled back falling off with one of his hands glowing bright orange. After he's out of sight, the mystery person notices something below and starts laughing manically.
"This is going to be quite the experience," they say disappearing with a small flash, leaving the empty cliff as if nothing had happened.
5,000 Years Later. . .
"And... Ta-da," a twelve-year-old girl with short curly black hair, deep blue eyes and tiny freckles on her cheeks states as she puts little cat candies into four cups. Behind her is an older man, with greyish-blue hair and purple eyes, putting biscuits on the plates.
"Ready Dawn?" the man asks with a small smile that could be mistaken for evil.
"Of course, dad, I can't wait for them to try my delicious tea," Dawn says as she picks up the trays skipping behind her father.
"Ah, you guys finished, I can't wait to see how it turned out," a lady with dirty blonde hair and deep blue eyes said, smiling widely at the two.
"It looks like it was poisoned if you ask me," a sixteen-year-old boy with purple eyes and dirty blonde hair adds, turning in the opposite direction pinching his nose. “And it stinks.”
"Makoto don't be so rude, your father and sister put a lot of work into this," the lady chastised her son.
"If Dawn did it, it’s bound to have something wrong with it."
"Mizu, do you want honey on your biscuit?" the father asks before Dawn could respond to her brother not wanting to hear their arguing.
"Honey is fine dear," Mizu says with a weird emphasis on the term dear, which neither of the kids seem to notice due to their fighting. Hakai does however and grips the honey as he scowls causing wrinkles to appear on his forehead. He slowly breathes in and out to calm himself down and hands over the container to Mizu. The family then begins to enjoy their "Tea Party" as Dawn likes to call it.
A few seconds after drinking her tea, Mizu starts to choke. Blood starts coming out with each aching cough, which alerts the rest of the family.
"Huh, mom are you okay?" Dawn asks, worried, jumping up and running over to her mother. Mizu tries to respond but falls on her side as the rest of the family freaks out. Makoto tries to keep their mom alive telling Dawn to get out of the way while Hakai worriedly calls the ambulance.
"Damn it, Dawn, move out the way, YOU ARE NOT HELPING!" Makoto yells as Dawn lets out a yelp and hesitantly moves back while shaking.
After what felt like hours, the ambulance arrived to take Mizu away along with the rest of the family. As soon as they arrive, they rush Mizu to an emergency room leaving the rest of the family outside the door.
"Dad, will mom be, ok?" Dawn pleads.
"Yea, I'm sure she'll be fine," Hakai confirms with another small smile. He then ignores any of Dawn's further questions rolling his eyes, as Makoto slowly paces back and forth. A few hours later the doctor comes out with a saddened look noticed by everyone except Dawn who was still hopeful. They walked up to the doctor with Hakai in front and his children behind him.
"Mr. Hamasaki," the doctor calls out.
"Doctor is everything alright?" Hakai asks crossing his arms with Makoto and Dawn peeking from behind as if the doctor would attack them.
"I'm sorry Mr. Hamasaki but, we weren't able to save her," the doctor tried to whisper to Hakai. Dawn listening intently heard everything that was said.
"WHAT!" Dawn screamed.
"Calm down Dawn, I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding," Hakai says trying to calm down his children. "Makoto, watch over your sister while I speak to the doctor," he says asking the doctor to speak in private. “And no fighting!” he warned.
"Ok father," Makoto said as he begrudgingly took Dawn over to the chairs. "What did you put in that tea," he asks trying to hide his anger, but his eyes were saying it all.
"Nothing out of the ordinary, just the tea bag, water, and sugar, wait... you don't think I poisoned mom... right?" Dawn asked finally connecting the dots as she started to tear up.
"Well, who else could have done it, not only that she only started choking when she drunk your nasty tea. I knew it would be bad if they had another child, but they wouldn’t listen and now look, their ungrateful daughter goes and murders MY mother," Makoto said angrily as he was getting louder. This caused people to look over in their direction.
"You don't mean that right? I didn't do anything," Dawn said as tears started to fall from her eyes. All the nosy people looking over hurriedly turned away when Makoto glared at them slightly freezing the floor beneath him.
About thirteen minutes after the incident, Hakai and the doctor came out from the emergency room. As Hakai walked up to his children, he took note that Dawn looked like she was crying but chalked it up to her being scared since if he was being honest with himself, he didn’t really care.
"Father? Mom's ok right? Why are you looking like that?" Dawn bombarded her father with questions wiping her eyes.
"SHUT UP! Why can’t you be quiet for once? I already have to deal with your mom’s death and now you. Why couldn’t you have drunk the tea instead?” Hakai yelled, and immediately covered his mouth.
Makoto immediately starts tearing up, blocking out the rest of what his father said. He then glared at Dawn, who jumped back scared and surprised. She starts to cry as she walks back to a corner of the room. The doctor with a surprised face, whispers something to the father, and walks away. Hakai then takes the two to see their mom one last time.
As they were about to leave, Dawn sat back down near her mom. Makoto was about to grab her muttering the words 'we can't leave the victim with her murderer.'
"Makoto don't say such things about your sister," Hakai said dragging Makoto out of the room, seemingly calmed down from earlier.
"Mom, I'm so sorry if I poisoned you, I didn't mean to I promise," Dawn pleaded to the corpse on the bed.
"Don't worry dear, you did no such thing," a voice said.
"Huh, where is that coming from," Dawn said thinking she was going crazy.
"Right here, geez did you really think I wouldn't know if something was poisoned," they continued. “I drunk it to teach someone a lesson, although I am sorry it was put into the tea you made,” Mizu finished.
'Mom, but I thought she was gone,' Dawn thought thinking looking around to see if someone was playing a prank on her. ‘No that can’t be it, who would do something like that?’
"I think it's time for you to head out now, but don't worry Dawn I will always be there in your time of need, no matter the circumstances," Mizu said slightly touching Dawn's shoulder even though she could not feel it.
Dawn soon got up wiping away more tears and walked towards the door almost tripping. She turned one more time to the corpse vowing to find the murderer(s). When she stepped out, she saw Hakai and Makoto waiting for her. They walk up to her and Hakai asks if she was ready. Saying yes, the Hamasaki family starts to head back home.
The next day, there was suddenly a loud knock at the Hamasaki residence.
"Yes, is there something you need?" Hakai says answering the door with an annoyed look.
"Hello sir, we are from the Legion, we are here to deliver your invitations to the Legion hearing," one of the officers said.
'. . . Eh the Legion, are they here for the hearing dad was talking about 'Dawn thought listening in on their conversation.
"Thank you, sirs, we'll see you there," Hakai says bowing to the two officers as they leave.
"Father who was that?" Makoto asks as Hakai walks back to the living room.
"Officers, they came to notify us of when and where the hearing will be held," he replies.
"So, we'll be able to see who killed mom," Dawn jumped in.
"But we already know who did it," Makoto says as he looks in Dawn's direction.
"Would you stop saying that I did no such thing," Dawn defended herself.
"Both of you stop it! To answer your question Dawn, yes, and that is why I wanted to know if you both wanted to go," Hakai asked.
"YES!" both yelled without a second thought.
So as a week passed the Hamasaki's got ready to attend the hearing.
"Hey Makoto, does the Legion really have the all-seeing eye," Dawn hesitantly asks the morning of the trial.
“Yes, one of their members magic can see past events of a person, although they probably won't need it seeing that it's obvious who did it," Makoto replies annoyed.
'Hmm magic? The thing we mages have. I wonder what it would be like to have such a power.' Dawn wondered slowly learning to ignore her brother's accusations. After that, they finished getting ready and came down to eat breakfast. When breakfast was finished, they headed to the area where they would find the murderer of Mizu Hamasaki.
At the trial. . .
"Welcome all to the trial of Mizu Hamasaki." an assertive voice said.
"Huh, where's that coming from?" Dawn asked.
"The leader of the Legion. They use speakers, so they aren't showing their face," Hakai answered.
'Isn't that a bit weird?' Dawn thought.
"We would like to inform you all that if the murderer is not here at the hearing, we will find them as soon as possible so do not worry," the voice continues. There are a few moments of silence as the Legion is doing what can only be believed to be the all-seeing eye. This makes the crowd go silent as well with the exception of a few people who were disrespectfully making bets on who did it.
"We have come to our conclusion." they say a bit lower in a commanding voice.
Suddenly, the air around Dawn seemed to dim and everything went blurry for a while. A voice is trying to say something, but Dawn has such a headache that she cannot seem to understand or hear them.
'Huh, why did the atmosphere just change?' Dawn thought holding her head sensing something bad was about to happen.
"run"
"The person who murdered Mizu Hamasaki was" there was a pause and suddenly Dawn heard a whisper again.
"Run"
'Huh, what was that sound,' Dawn's thoughts were cut off as the Legion finished. "Dawn Hamasaki!"
"RUN!"
'Huh who?' Dawn thought before she realized. "HUH!?" She screamed in confusion. Suddenly everyone turned and glared at her with hatred and disgust while some seemed happy, probably because they won the bet, even her father and brother believed this.
"RUN!!"
"I knew it, YOU UNGRATEFUL BRAT!" Makoto yelled about to attack her until Hakai grabbed him.
"RUN!!!"
"Wha- I, huh," Dawn stuttered completely confused as to what was happening. Then the two officers from before walked up to her with cuffs that would stop her from using magic. Finally listening to the voice, she dashes in the opposite direction as the officer screamed at her to stop. She doesn’t listen, however, and keeps running until she runs out of breath, which was very quickly.
She turns to an alleyway as the officers are still chasing her. Suddenly a hand grabs her shoulder, and she screams till they cover her mouth, she sees a lady with reddish-violet hair, black eyes, and caramel skin. The lady motions her to be quiet and points to a sewer drain. Having no other choice, she follows her down the sewer, and after four to five minutes they reach a dead end.
The mystery lady pushes a button on the wall and a secret door opens. As they peek inside the first thing Dawn sees is five other people besides her and the lady.
"Oh, a new recruit, how exciting," one said.
"Ooh welcome to the Justice Dragons," another one said.
"We're not calling ourselves that Celestial," someone said in response to the girl. The lady then clears her throat, walks in, and turns to face Dawn.
"Welcome Dawn Hamasaki, my name is Nanami Mazoku and we are. . . the dragons I suppose," the lady spoke.
'Eh, how does she know my name?' Dawn thought.
"They said it at the trial," she responded.
"What?" Dawn said even more confused.
"My magic allows me to read minds," she explained.
'Oh,' she thought.
"Anyway, my name's Miu Azula, pleasure to meet you," an older lady with black hair and yellowish-blue eyes said. "Oh, and this is Ciarra Narukami," she continued introducing the lady, that also had black hair and pink eyes, that was floating next to her.
"I see," Dawn said quietly.
"Heyy, my name is Celestial, but you can call me Celeste, great to meet you," a girl around Dawn's age with blonde hair and brown eyes says jumping up and down. Dawn looked at her confused as she wore gold chains near her waist, with black leggings, a gold crop top, and more jewelry around her body. Another girl with black hair, blue eyes, and weird gray skin grabs Celestial's shoulder and shoots her a glare.
"Hmph, the name's Ruby." they say with an annoyed look.
"Umm my name is Israel, nice to meet you," a boy says quietly from behind Ruby, he also has black hair with green eyes. Dawn just stared in confusion until Nanami starts to explain what is going on.
"You're here because you were wrongfully convicted of a crime," she continues "everyone here is in the same boat," she finished.
'They were framed by the Legion as well?' Dawn wondered.
"Yes, we were," Nanami answered.
"Huh?! Hey don't just go reading my mind," Dawn said defensively.
"Sorry. You were just quiet for quite a while, so I was worried," she apologized.
"It's fine I guess, but were you all really framed by the Legion too?" Dawn responded.
"Most of us, the others are just here to help," Israel said pointing to Miu and Ciarra. "Since they are related to me and Ruby, they decided it'd be good to tag along," he finished.
"Related?" Dawn asked.
"Yup, I'm Israel's mom and Ciarra is Ruby's," Miu says with a smile.
"Oh," Dawn says as she finally decides to walk through the secret door.
"Well then enough with this awkward atmosphere, we should get some rest," Nanami says as everyone walks away except for Miu and Ciarra. After a few minutes of silence past Nanami turns to Dawn with a serious face, "So, Dawn, would you like to stay here? If not, I will have to erase your memory of this encounter and kick you out.”
"Jeez, don't glare at her like that, you'll scare her away," Miu says walking forward.
'These people seem very interesting, but I do need a place to stay so I guess I could' Dawn thought.
"Great," Nanami speaks breaking the silence.
"Hey, I thought you said you wouldn't do that," Dawn pouted.
"Sorry you just spend an excessive amount of time in your head," she argued. "Anyway... Ciarra could you show her to her room?" Nanami questioned. Ciarra lifted an eyebrow at her.
"Huh, well I'm extremely tired and he cannot be trusted," Nanami explained, "Because it's Miu," she argued with what looked like no one while Miu uttered an offended 'hey.' After a while, Ciarra agrees as she waves at Dawn to come on.
"So... You don't talk much do you," Dawn said trying to start a conversation. Ciarra ignores them stopping at a door and pointing to it. Taking the hint Dawn opens the door and Ciarra "walks" away.
"Thank... you?" Dawn said more like a question. As she walked through the door, she saw a queen-size bed and a bathroom. 'Hmm, guess I'll have to decorate it myself' Dawn figured. She then laid down and immediately fell asleep, not realizing how exhausted she was.
