Knock knock knock
"Jeongguk, get the door!"
"Why does it always have to be me?!" Jeongguk shouted back, sitting on the couch, perfectly content with his current position.
"Because you're closer!" Taehyung shouted back, irritation evident.
"UGH!" Jeongguk groaned loudly enough for the older to hear. They've been roommates for the two years they've been in university and best friends for 10.
Jeongguk slowly rolled off the couch, complaining in the process. Why couldn't Tae just get the door? I was comfy!
Picking himself up off the ground, the lazy male sluggishly
made his way to the door.
Jeongguk looked through the tiny peep hole and was met with...
Nothing. There was literally nothing there. All he could see was the light blue wall across from their apartment.
Jeongguk hesitantly opened the door just in case someone was there to rob him. Or worse... Give him a Bible. Now don't get him wrong, Jeongguk loves Jesus, he just happens to love RuPaul more.
After slowly opening the door, he peeked his head into the hallway and looked to the right. No one. He looked to the left. No one. He shrugged his shoulders, realizing it was probably the kids from downstairs playing tricks on them again, and was about to shut the door when he heard a sniff.
Jeongguk sniffed himself, wondering if he had done so subconsciously. But it sounded different. The first one was more delicate. Not a sound that nineteen year old Jeongguk could've made.
He heard the sniff again. This time he heard it coming from his feet. He looked down. And he gasped.
JEONGGUK'S POV
*GASP*
Umm. What's this?! This-this isn't okay!
"TAEHYUUUUUUUUNGGGGGGG!!!!" I screamed inside, hoping Tae would actually come this time.
Thankfully, my murderful screams were answered with Taehyung running out of his room, looking more disheveled than ever. Brown hair in a tousled mess, and his shirt wrinkly from not yet changing out of his pajamas. Cute. I mean, no.
"What's wrong?! Are you okay?! What happened?! Why are you screaming?!" Taehyung was in full worry mode. It was cute.
I mean- no. I didn't mean that. It was-manly! Yeah. Bro. Homey. No homo. Ahaha. Yeah...
When I snapped back to reality and realized Tae was still staring at me worriedly, slightly out of breath from the adrenaline and running, all I could do was point out into the hallway.
Tae raised an eye brow and curiously walked over to the door,
suspicious yet sceptical as to what he may find.
He looked out in the hallway. Nothing. To the right, to the left, again, nothing. He looked down.
"OH MAN HOLY SH-"
TAEHYUNG'S POV
"OH MANY HOLY SH-!"
"LANGUAGE!" Jeongguk shouted.
I turned around in a state of disbelief, "What's this?" I asked, pointing at the tiny little human that was left at our door!
"I don't know!" Jeongguk responded just as freaked out. "What are we supposed to do with it! I can't even keep a goldfish alive nonetheless a person!"
He had a point there, I thought. Last time we decided it would be a good idea to have a pet goldfish it died within the first day. Kook over fed it and the next morning it kind of... exploded...
"Just... bring it in! It's cold out there and we can't just leave it!" I replied.
Jeongguk looked at me, looked at the baby, and looked at me again as if I was crazy. I gestured to the petite child and widened my eyes, urging him to bring the gosh dang baby in.
He gave me an incredulous look and carried the child in. It was wrapped in a blue blanket and was inside of a picnic basket. Why the person couldn't have put it in an actual baby carrier instead of a lunch box, I'm not quite sure.
I ushered the both of them over to the soft comfortable couch. Kook placed the basket on the coffee table in front of us.
~five minutes later~
What are we supposed to do now?
"Hey kookie?" I whispered after five minutes of staring in silence.
"Yeah?" He whispered back.
"What are we gonna do?" I asked, tearing my eyes away from the baby to look at him.
"I mean, you can touch it? Maybe there's a note or something?" he suggested hopefully.
I nodded and reached out towards the sleeping child. I carefully wrapped my arms around it's cold body and brought it up to my chest, carefully securing the head and back. I'm not gonna lie, it was so precious. Its little lips parted slightly, face full of tranquility.
"There! There's a note!" Jeongguk pointed excitedly.
"Well don't just point! Open it!"
"Okay okay jeesh!" He picked up the purple envelope and tore open the seal.
"Read it out loud," I said as I carefully held the still snoozing baby.
"Dear Jeongguk," he started. "Wait. Why me? What do I have to
do with this?" He asked incredulously, putting the letter down and looking at me. "Shhh! The baby's still sleeping! And keep reading!" I hushed.
He cleared his throat and picked up the letter once more. "I can no longer take care of this child. I know you didn't know anything about her, and I intended to keep it that way, but my environment is no longer safe for her," "wait, it's a her?!"
I nudged for him to go on.
"About a year ago when we were all at Taemin's party, we both got wasted, and well, this little girl happened. She's one month old. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about her and I'm sorry for just leaving her like this. I hope you'll understand. And please don't come looking for me. -Mina"
"Holy crap," Jeongguk whispered.
"Holy crap," I whispered back.
EDIT: I used Mina as a random name, not intending the actual Mina. Nothing against her.
GOSHHH SHE IS SOO CUTE 😌❤️
JEONGGUK'S POV
I turned around towards Tae, tears in my eyes just waiting to fall. "I didn't- I don't- what did I do?"
My tears fell and I turned away. I cover my head with my hands and brought my knees to my chest. I made this child. I have a daughter. Oh my gosh, what will Tae think of me now?! Am I ****?! A ***** who had a one night stand?! A stupid irresponsible man who had unprotected sex while drunk?! Whatever it is I can't face him. I stood up and ran out of the room, Tae calling out quietly as to not wake the child. My daughter.
I ran into the bathroom and locked the door, sliding down the white wooden surface onto the cool, tile floor. I buried my face in my knees and cried. Cried because I screwed up. Cried because I probably just lost my best friend.
Knock knock knock
There were three soft knocks on the door.
"Jeongguk? Kookie? Can I come in? Are you alright?" Tae whispered at the door. Why was he here? Why hadn't he left in disgust yet?
"Open up. Please? Let's talk about this." His voice was still just as caring as ever. I guess he was right though. We needed to talk about this.
I opened the door and scooted away so he could walk in. He still had the baby girl in his arms. He sat down next to me and saw my face.
"Oh Kookie..." He let out a sigh. So he was disappointed. "This is all going to be okay. We'll get through this."
Wait. We?
"What do you mean?" I sniffed, "We, are getting through this'? Ar-aren't you disgusted? I'm such a screw up!" I cried. "What will my parents think of me? Having a child out of wedlock? Drinking underage?!" I cried some more.
"Kookie, you aren't a screw up. And who cares what your parents think? Have you actually looked at your daughter? She looks just like you, she's perfect," he comforted me softly. Taehyung pulled his knees up and propped the swaddled up girl against them.
My words were caught in my throat as I looked over. She was truly the most precious, beautiful angel in the world.
"Can I- can I hold her?" I asked softly.
"Of course," Tae handed me the chil- my daughter. I held her against my chest, making sure to support her head. I may not know anything about taking care of children, but I know enough not to kill her.
I leaned my cheak against her soft fuzzy head and look over at my best friend. "So what do we do with her?"
Taehyung turned to face me, "I'm not sure. We could name her?" He suggested, looking at the girl adoringly.
"If we name her, doesn't that mean we have to keep her?" I asked.
He placed his soft, warm hand on my shoulder, rubbing it soothingly. "I suppose so. But would you really want to give her away? I mean, I get it. We're university students who don't know anything about taking care of a child. But we could learn. And I'll always be here to help. And I'm sure Namjoon and Jin hyung wouldn't mind helping either," he leaned his head against my shoulder and my heart beat picked up. "We can do this Kook, but only if you want to."
By now my tears were dry. I can't believe I even cried in the first place. Of course Tae would understand. No one understands me better and he's always there to support me, he truly is the most important person in my life. Well, now he may have some competition. I mean, I do have a daughter now. 3
"So what should we name her?" I looked over and smirked. Tae's face was filled with pure shock and joy. We were really going to do this. We were going to be parents.
TAEHYUNG'S POV
"How about Eun Jung?" I asked.
"Grace and affection," Jeongguk murmured the meaning. "I love it. Eun Jung."
"We should probably go baby shopping shouldn't we?" I asked, remembering there's more to caring for a baby than just
picking out its name.
"Call Seokjin?" Jeongguk suggested. "Call Seokjin," I confirmed.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVE A BABY?!"
"I think he's taking it pretty well, don't you?" I whispered to Kook as he called Seokjin hyung.
Jeongguk had been trying to explain to Jin what had happened earlier that morning. Although he didn't take the news well, he still knew that there was nothing he could do about it but help us two idiots not kill a baby.
"I'll meet you at the store in ten minutes"
"Yes!" Jeongguk cheered once he hung up with Jin. "Tae, get your coat on, we're going baby shopping!"
We met up with Jin at the baby store. I was still holding Eun Jung.
"I can't believe you were actually telling the truth," Jin said in amazement. "Dumb and dumber with a child. Wow. You're going to need a looooot of help. Thankfully you've got me," Seokjin threw in a smile when he mentioned himself.
"First of all," Seokjin walked over to Jeongguk and slapped him. "OwW!"
"That's for you being stupid. Second of all," Seokjin walked over to me and ogled at Eun Jung, "She is so adorable!
"Now. Finally. Let's go shopping," and like that Seokjin took the lead and sassily pivoted on his heel and grabbed a shopping cart. Jeongguk and I didn't know if we were supposed to go after him but seeing as he didn't stop, we decided to hurriedly catch up.
"Now I hope you have a lot of money because let me tell you, babies are expeeeeensive," Jin hyung said dragging out the 'e'.
"I mean. I have like, $500 maybe? I'm a college kid. I'm poor,"
Jeongguk explained.
"Yeah. I have about the same amount as well," I sulked, caressing Eun Jung.
"But Tae, you're not paying for anything, it's my child, it's my fault she's with us," Jeongguk looked a bit sad. It's only been less than three hours and parenting has already gotten to him.
"No way," I responded, "we're in this together. I'll help in any way possible." Jeongguk smiled at that, making my heart flutter. "Ugh just date already," Seokjin mumbled, quietly enough that not all of us heard.
"What was that?" Jeongguk asked.
"Nothing! Nothing at all," Seokjin replied, as if one of us would believe him.
"Oh! Okay! Sorry," Kook laughed it off. Okay, maybe he would believe him.
As Seokjin went through the aisles, he threw anything in the cart he found suitable. Bottles, formula, pacifiers, blankets, swaddles, diapers, wipes, a crib, etc. And let me tell you, he was not holding back. It's as if he forgot we were university students!
An hour later, Eun Jung surprisingly still asleep (obvious she gets that from Jeongguk), and our cart all the way full, we went to the check out.
"Okay your total will be $997.98 will that be cash or credit?"
the clerk asked in her cheery voice.
"That's... That's a lot of money..." Jeongguk choked out.
"Umm credit plea-," Jeongguk started but was interrupted by Seokjin saying "Credit will be fine, thank you," and he took out his credit card.
"Hy-hyung, what are you doing?" I asked. I wasn't sure what was going on.
"Think of it as your baby shower gift from me and Joonie. It's going to be expensive to raise a child, so I'll get the main stuff for you to hopefully make the rest easier," he said thoughtfully.
Wow. Jin hyung is truly the best.
"Now. When we get home I'll teach you how to use this stuff, because I doubt either of you know what half of these items do."
He wasn't wrong.
By the time we got home, Eun Jung had finally woken up. She had the largest baby brown doe eyes I've ever seen, which reminded me so much of Kookie's. We couldn't stop ogling and continued to until Seokjin forced us to help set everything up.
I set her down in the baby carrier that Jin had just set up, and put a blanket over her. Precious.
"Okay ladies, time to put up the crib!" Seokjin said excitedly.
Although Jin hyung and I tried to help, it was Jeongguk who did most of it, Seokjin and I settled on putting the diapers,
bottles, and all of the other miscellaneous baby items away.
Once set up, we moved the crib over to Jeongguk's room so he could easily access her during the night when she was up crying.
Speaking of crying, Eun Jung had woken up again. And this time, she was bawling her head off.
Jeongguk and I just stood there and looked at each other with wide eyes. What were we supposed to do?!
"Idiots," Jin scoffed and walked over to the aforementioned child. "She obviously needs something," he said and picked her up. "Oh! Oh my gosh okay guys this is where your training comes in. To the changing table!" Jin said, flinching from the stench.
Do you know how hard it is to change a diaper? With Jeongguk and I both trying, it took us about six times to get it done almost successfully.
Three frustrated boys and fifteen minutes later, Eun Jung is changed. And we even put her in a cute light pink onesie.
After Jin showed us how to warm bottles, feed, burp, change,
bathe, and all those other parenting responsibilities, he went
home and told us to call if we ever need something.
Jin hyung truly is the best.
....
wahhhh!!
Jeongguk bolted out of bed. What the heck was that?!
He ran over to his light switch and flicked it on.
Oh. Yeah. He had a baby. And it was crying. Shoot! It's crying! What do I do?! He panicked and ran toward the crying girl and picked her up.
"Hey baby Daddy's got ya. That's it, calm down. Are you hungry? Do you want a bottle?" Jeongguk cooed, talking to Eun Jung and slightly bouncing her up and down.
Jeongguk made his way to the kitchen, his daughter slightly whimpering. He was going to turn on the lights when he realized they were already shining, and Taehyung was heating up a bottle.
"What are you doing?" Jeongguk asked.
"I heard Eunie crying and I figured it was about time for her to be fed, so when I realized I probably wasn't going back to sleep I decided to be helpful," he smiled tiredly, eyes drooping, and put the bottle in the microwave for 30 seconds. After the timer beeped loudly, Taehyung tested it out on his wrist, making sure it wasn't too hot nor too cold.
Tae nodded in satisfaction and handed it to Jeongguk, who turned off the kitchen light and made his way over to the couch, Taehyung following him.
After settling down, Jeongguk propped Eun Jung on his arm and started feeding her. She gladly accepted the bottle, and drank it until not even a single drop remained.
And as they had been taught earlier, Jeongguk put a rag over his shoulder and rested her head atop it, her stomach pressing flat against his chest. Jeongguk gently started to pat her until she let out a little burp. Thankfully, there was no spit up, and Eun Jung had fallen asleep once more.
Jeongguk sighed and rested his head against Tae's shoulder. Taehyung laughed quietly at the half asleep younger and gently laid down on the couch, pulling Jeongguk and Eunie on top of him. With his Kookie curled up on his side, Taehyung carefully took Eun Jung and held her in his arms.
Two minutes later, soft snores could be heard from both Jeongguk and the baby, and Kook's arm had found its way on to Eun Jung, his hand softly grazing her tiny arm. Taehyung fell asleep with more love in his heart than he's felt in a long time.
Maybe having a baby in the apartment wouldn't be so bad after all.
JEONGGUK'S POV
I woke up with the sun shining through the windows, surrounded by warmth.
Comfortable. Was the first thing I thought.
But why was I on the couch? And why was it so warm?
I propped my self up on my elbow and took in my surroundings. Eun Jung was laying between Tae and I, my head had been resting on his chest, and my arm was around him and my baby girl. Well... our baby girl? I'm not sure. I don't know what Tae thinks about the situation. I don't know if he wants to be an uncle, a father, a distant relative, or just nothing. Only time will tell... Or a conversation, but I hate confrontation, I'd rather not.
I lied back down and looked at my sleepy daughter. Wahhhh she was so cute. I picked up her tiny hand in mine and kissed it. "You're so adorable," I whispered.
"Thanks, I know," Tae responded in a low, gravelly voice, his morning voice to be exact. I'm not even gonna lie anymore, I may have blushed. Not only at his comment but just at his voice. I mean, no. No I didn't blush. He's my bro. Yeah, because bros also cuddle on the couch. And raise children together. Yep. Totally normal. Right?
"I was talking to Eun Jung," I responded, sitting up.
"Mhm. Sure you were," he said in a disbelieving tone. As if! How would he even know?! His eyes were shut!
"I'm gonna change Eun Jung's diaper," I said, standing up and gently grabbing my baby as to not wake her up.
"I'll help," Tae said getting up as well.
"I can do it by myself," I said assuringly, wanting to get away before I blush even more.
"Mhm. Sure you can. What's the first step?" He asked, not believe I could do it at all.
"Umm... You... Do that thing... And then the other thing?" It
came out as more of a question then a statement.
"Okay yeah I'm definitely helping. I don't want our baby going around with her diaper on inside out and backwards," He spoke, standing up and making his way over to the changing station with me.
Wait, our baby? So he does want to be a part of this? Like, fully committed?
"Are you going to put her down or ... ?" Tae asked, snapping
me back to attention.
"Oh. Yeah," I replied, putting her down on the changing table.
After five minutes, we finally got her cleaned up and the diaper on the right way. And of course we changed her into a fresh onesie, again, the color pink. That's all Seokjin bought. Pink.
"Jeongukie," Taehyung asked as we laid in his bed, Eun Jung in between us, sleeping yet again. I swear that girl could sleep through an earth quake.
I hummed in response. "We have classes in two days. What are we going to do with Eunie?" He asked softly, not raising his voice due to the resting girl between them.
"I thought about that this morning and texted Seokjinnie. He said that Namjoon needs to write lyrics for a new song that he needs to produce this week and he can take her with him. He said he'll be at Jin's cafe most of the time so they'll both be able to look after her. And we can stop by through out the day and check up on her in between classes."
"Wow, you've got every thing planned out don't you?" Tae asked, looking over at me.
"I guess I do, huh," I smiled to myself and looked over at Tae.
"God you're beautiful," Tae whispered under his breath. "What was that?" I asked, not clearly hearing what he said.
"Nothing," Tae sighed, "nothing at all."
Although I know when Tae is lying, it was clear he wasn't going to tell me what he had said and I didn't want to intrude. "Okay," I said back, acting as if I believed him.
It was 8 o'clock and Eun Jung had just gotten a bath and fed. Let me tell you. Baths, the seemingly most easy thing to do, turns out to be the hardest. One moment every thing is going fine and it's all good, and then the next moment water is every where and both Tae and I are slipping and falling in all of the water that somehow got out. Not. Fun.
"Do you wanna have a sleep over?" I asked Tae. It'd been a while since we've done so, and I feel like with the stress of the past two days, we needed one.
"Sure!" Tae happily agreed.
We met in my room and decided to watch Sixteen Candles. With Eun Jung asleep, I placed her in the crib, and walked back over to my bed where Tae was waiting with open arms.
I climbed under the fuzzy blankets and snuggled into Tae, his arms circled around me providing warmth.
I woke up around 3 am and our position had completely changed. Tae had his head on my chest, and his left leg was wrapped around me like a koala bear. I should be used to it by now, as it happens almost every time we sleep together, but it's still one of the cutest things to wake up to, and I don't think I'll ever get used to it.
TAEHYUNG'S POV
I woke up at nine am, arms and legs wrapped around Jeongguk. After soaking in the warmth for a couple more seconds and overall just trying to wake up, I opened my eyes slowly, letting them adjust to the bright light. I heard what sounded like two papers brushing together and looked up, only to see Jeongguk propped up in bed, staring intently at the pages of a parenting book. This boy couldn't get any cuter.
