Thousand Years Promise (千年の約束)

Prologue - Heian Period 865 (1157 years ago)

It's a cold, windy day, the first snow just falls.

The year of samurai reign and power rising.

A young girl, hiding under the roof of an old shrine, shelter herself from the

piercing cold snowflakes.

Samurai are everywhere, holding their katana around their waist.

She was both terrified and hungry.

Her empty stomach growl, asked for fill.

Her families already died due to samurai attack about a month ago.

From a wealthy and strong clan, no one would ever imagine that this tragedy would

befall upon her.

Nothing left from the brutal war against the

same humankind.

She only manages to hid herself under a pile of lifeless corpse and get away from

the samurai inspection.

She ran far away from her village, day and night, doesn't stop walking until she

felt that it's safe for her to stop and rest for some food.

The only food that available for her was only from the nature itself.

She's only ten by that time, but she already manages to save herself from the harsh

situation.

She did not waver, neither cried nor mourned for all the

thing that had happened

Yet here she is now, hides herself under the roof of an old shrine, away from the

merciless cold snow.

She used to love the gentle touch of snow, while eating some newly cooked hot

potato, side by side with her parent.

But for now, she hates it so bad as she doesn't want to even experience it again.

Not long after that, she heard a footstep behind her back.

Too scared to look at, she just bowed herself to the floor, as she couldn't hide how

bad her body were shaking right now.

"I am so sorry. I didn't know that you were here. Please forgive me." She starts

to cry.

That man sits in front of her.

"What is your name?" He asked.

It was a decent looking man, smiling peacefully towards her.

"Ha... Hana... Hanabi..." She answered, try to peek at him.

Upon sitting in front of the man, she looks so tiny and fragile.

He could do her bad at any time.

"Hanabi-chan, it's okay. You don't have to be afraid of me. I won't hurt you." He spoke.

Hanabi mustered her bravery and sit in such a more comfortable way.

She clenched her hand so tight, almost hurting herself from her long dirty fingernails.

"I am Hibiki. Where are you from? Do you want me to send you back home?" He

asked her with the most soft and sweet voice he could offer.

"I am Hanabi from the Kuragari clan. My parent, my families, my clan and my home

already perish by the act of samurai. I got no place to go anymore." She

answered him, trying to hold back her tears.

Shock from how well her speech is, how matured she muttered her words, Hibiki smiled.

"Kuragari, huh? How old are you?" He asked again.

"I'm ten years old." Hanabi look down as she answered.

She is the young lady from a wealthy clan.

Learning how to poetry and etiquette from a very

young age.

There was nothing about her that left to be not amazed about.

"Do you want to follow me? I am a traveler. I travel around, searching for

stuff." Hibiki invited her to join him.

He knew that if he left this helpless girl alone, no good will befall her.

"What if you are a bad person? You look the same as the samurai. You got katana with

you." She frowned.

"This katana is also to protect me from the bad guys. I promise I will never hurt

you. I will protect you from the bad guy. If I turn out to be the bad guy, run

away from me, okay?" Hibiki take out his promise finger, trying to

convince her.

Out of the sudden, her stomach growl.

Give her a sign that her body need some replenishment.

"That is so rude of me, pardon me." Hanabi felt ashamed.

"Here." He gave her a rice ball for her to eat.

Her eyes widened.

Slowly, she let her hands out, take the rice ball using both of her hands.

Hanabi couldn't resist it, as she doesn't eat a decent food for quite a long time.

"There, there..." Hibiki patted her head, feeling grateful for gaining the trust

from her.

From that very moment, Hanabi follow every steps of Hibiki's no matter how hard the

path is.

He teaches her how to defense herself from the bad, how to use her chakra and how to wield her jutsu.

Hibiki did not age a bit from the moment they met.

Despite already reaching 100 years, he still looks like a 15 years old boy.

Time seems to be frozen for him.

As soon as she turned 14 years old, Hanabi suddenly fall weak.

Making Hibiki worried about her day and night.

He tried everything, from acupuncture to

chakra replenish.

Nothing seems to be works for her besides, her health become worsened and incurable.

At her deathbed, there it seems to be one last thing that Hibiki left to do such

thing as hope, to save the only person that he loved from the bottom of his

heart.

To embedded within her the power that Hibiki been collecting for

almost 100 years.

Knowing that this is such a godly power, he couldn't take the chance to give it to her.

He doesn't want Hanabi to live the immortal live like himself.

This power might endanger her in the future.

There were a lot of things he worried about.

While Hibiki deep in his thought, Hanabi call out for him, "Hibiki..." with

such a cracked and weaken voice.

"Yes, I'm here." Hibiki reached out her right hand and hold onto it so tight,

didn't want to let her go.

"Thank you saving me and include me in your world. I guess that this is my time."

She told him while look deep into his dark green eyes.

"I wish I could be here longer, so that you won't be lonely." Hanabi let out

a heavy breath as she gasped for

air.

"I promised you; I will protect you with my life. At whatever cost it might

take." Hibiki left a peak on her forehead.

"I will never let anyone lay their hands on you, not even the grim reaper."

He throws her a smile, as he picks her up and embrace her in his warmth hug.

Hibiki raise his left hand slowly into the air, "seal jutsu, release." he

said.

Along with the gentle and soft motion of his hand, eight small sphere balls appeared

floating in the air.

Those spheres rotating in circle and transform into one bright red sphere.

Hanabi now in the verge of her death, gasping for more air.

Hibiki couldn't bear to see her dying like this when he can do something about.

"I love you, Hanabi." He kissed her on the forehead as he waived his left

hand to the direction of the red sphere, guiding it into Hanabi core heart.

The once used to be discolored face of her start to show some tone.

Her body become warmer after a few second pass by.

Hibiki sighed in relief, the ritual succeeds.

Heian Period 865 (1157 years ago)

Hasegawa Yuuta - Chapter 1

It was 7 minutes after midnight, Yuuta sat on the

field of cold grass near the river.

His eyes were red and swollen, his hand is full of

dried blood. Something has happened to him.

The way he hugs himself depict his feeling like an

open book, waiting to be read.

Tears flowing down, wetting his cheeks.

"Forgive me..." He muttered.

 (3 Hours Before)

[Hasegawa Yuuta, where are you?] His mother anger

could be felt through the phone call.

[I'm on my way right now.] He replied.

[Hurry up, Yuri is waiting for you.] His mother ends

the phone call.

Yuuta was on his way from school, he promised his

little sister, Hasegawa Yuri that he will be back home on time to have dinner

with them.

But what can be done about it, Yuuta just finishes his

soccer club practice even though he doesn't like soccer that much.

But his late father really loves soccer. Yuuta don't

remember much about his father as he died when he still 5 years old.

All he can remember was they playing soccer together

before the day when his father never comeback.

Yuuta took the fastest route to his house, afraid that

his mother will go mad if he took so long.

A few meters from his home. Yuuta keeps imagining the

food that his mother cooked for him.

Out of the sudden, his steps stop. Yuuta cannot move

any further.

Something makes him scared so much.

'These smells, I know this smell.' He thought to

himself.

It's just 2 meters from his house, Yuuta catches the

smell of blood and rotten flesh from the inside.

"It's can't be true!" Yuuta denies the

situation.

"Mother, Yuri..." He whispered.

From the peak of the window, he could saw everything.

To his shock, blood was everywhere.

He shut his voice, aware that there is another

presence in the house.

'Forgive me, Yuri.' He thought.

Yuuta made his way to the garage, where his mother

keeps the gardening tools.

He took an axe and went to the living room.

Yuuta braces himself to get in, deep inside he knew

that his mother and little sister is beyond saving.

Before entering, Yuuta took a peek to the living room.

In the pitch-black darkness, there was a human-like

demon devouring the flesh of his mother.

Without further thought, Yuuta swings his axe and

march toward the demon, demolish his left hand and took away his beloved

mother's lifeless body.

"What a strength." The demon grins.

Yuuta paused, too startled to speak.

He never seen any demon that was able to hold a

conversation like the one before him right now.

It looks very much like a human; convey he couldn't

tell the difference.

Apart from the smell of carcasses emitted.

Yuuta took one last look at his mother's face while

putting her slowly on the floor.

He is now ready for another blow.

"Hibiki?! I thought that you have died a long

time ago." The demon stuttered.

With his bare hand, the demon makes a hole on the wall

and try to escape.

"Wait!" Yuuta shouted.

"I'm sorry Hibiki-sama. I am not that arrogant to

fight you." Said the demon as he flew away.

"Oi! Wait!" Yuuta shouted, but none of his

voice reach the demon.

He threw his axe away, while arrange his steps to his

mother and little sister lifeless body.

"I'm sorry... I was late..." He mourns.

After covering the two body with blanket, Yuuta makes

a phone call to some organization.

It was a number his father left behind in case there

is a demon attacking them.

After explaining everything to them, Yuuta mindlessly

walks toward the river near his house.

He sits there for a quite some time, hugging his

knees.

"How could all of this happen?" He asked

himself.

"Forgive me father. I failed to protect mother

and Yuri." Thick tears drop, wetting his face.

Yuuta wipes his face, taking along a deep breath.

"Hasegawa Yuuta." Someone called his named

from behind.

"Whose asking?" Yuuta got up, clench his hand

tight making a fist.

"Yagura, SSS-rated sorcerer from Tokyo Anti-Demon

High School." He replied.

"Tokyo Anti-Demon High School?" Yuuta asked

as that name doesn't ring any bell.

"Yes, an Anti-Demon school. A school where a

student with gifted ability like you train to slain the demon. We exist for

1500 years ago; don't you ever hear anything about us?" Yagura asked,

showing his disappointed face.

"No, never once in my life." He replied.

"Well, I'm not blaming you. Maybe it is not a

topic you brought at dining table." Yagura sighed as he scratches his

neck.

Yuuta looks at him with a dead serious face.

"Is there anything on my face?" Yagura

asked.

"How do I know that you are not one of those

demon?" Yuuta clenched his fist.

"Yare yare, how is there exist such a handsome

demon like me. By the way, this is my Anti-Demon badge." Yagura shows him

an SSS-rated gold-plated badge to him.

"Sensei, I already scan the unusual purple blood

at the crime scene. It's belonged to the registered S-rated demon." A

young boy approaching them.

"Is it you who demolished that demon left

hand?" Yagura asked.

"Yea, I should have aimed for his head.” Yuuta

replied to him, full of regret.

'What a strength! Without any proper weapon, he able

to cut a S-rated demon hand. This boy is something.' Yagura thought.

"Yuuta, first of all I want to apologize to you.

If only I were to caught that S-rated demon myself, this would not

happen." Yagura said.

"It is troublesome to search for someone to

blame. I was there but yet I myself not able to save their life. If there is

one to blame, it should be me." Yuuta said.

"You seem to be cool about it." Another

person amazed with Yuuta.

"This kind of event already occurred me twice.

The first one is when I was five. I sense the same carcasses smell before my

father decided to follow the smell's source and not coming back. The last thing

I knew that he dead. The second one is tonight. I might be lying if I said that

it doesn't affect me." Yuuta smiled.

"Come and join us! Let's go to the ADHS

(Anti-Demon High School) together!" He spoke.

"Who are you again?" Yuuta asked.

"Sorry, my name is Watanabe Aoki, first year

sorcerer from ADHS. A first-rate sorcerer too." Aoki answered as he

showing off his silver-plated badge.

"No, I don't want to be involved with all this

demon stuff anymore." Yuuta refused him.

"It such a shame to have that kind of power to go

waste. Well, it's not like we want you to take revenge on you family behalf

after all those befallen upon them." Yagura said as he walks away from

Yuuta.

"Sensei, are you sure about this?" Aoki

whispered to him.

Yagura just throws him a smile.

A cold breeze slap Yuuta's body with chill.

He thought for a second, reminiscing the face of his

little sister, Yuri.

The laughter that being took away from him.

Someone who'd been rely upon him all this time, now

gone for good.

There is nothing he can do about it anymore.

He cannot always stay this way; he needs to get back

on his feet and the only thing he can do now is fight.

"Wait!" Yuuta shouted.

"What good will it do to me?" He asked, as

Yagura's steps stopped.

"What good do you want?" Yagura asked him.

"I want to go berserk." With such a cold

face, Yuuta replied.

Yagura gives him a big smile, more like a grin.

"Good, you just what I’ve been looking for."

Yagura patted his back.

"Now Aoki, meet your new partner, Hasegawa Yuuta."

Said Yagura.

"What happen to the old one?" Yuuta asked.

"He died, unfortunately." Said Aoki.

" You two, after we settle this mission, we will

go back to Tokyo." Yagura told them happily.

"Okay." Yuuta replied, coldly.

Hasegawa Yuuta - Chapter 2

One week later,

Yuuta held a funeral for his mother and his little sister and buried their ashes alongside

his father's fake grave, Hasegawa Yura.

‘Losing someone that dear to you must be hard’ He thought.

The fear of losing, mourning still creep inside him.

That was the moment he made a decision that he cannot turn back.

To become a sorcerer and a fighter.

He doesn’t want people to feel this agonizing.

"Yuuta, I already took all your belonging into the moving truck." Yagura patted

his shoulder, stopping him from reminiscing.

"My gaming pc too?" He asked.

"All of it." Yagura winked at him.

"I got one question to ask you." Yuuta turns his gaze toward Yagura.

"Ask me anything." Yagura throws a big smile.

"Where will I be staying? I mean I don't have any relative in Tokyo." He asked.

"Didn’t I tell you that?" They both drop in silence.

Yuuta just shook his head slowly.

"My bad. The school will provide a personal room for each student, you don't have

to worry about it." Aoki approach them.

"I told you to tell him everything about ADSH." Yagura sighed.

"Watanabe, where have you been? I thought you already left  to Tokyo already." Yuuta asked.

“I hunt down that s-rate demon. Can’t have them let loose anymore.”

“Did you get it?” Yuuta asked.

“Already turn into ashes AHAHAHAHA!” He laughs.

“It took you one week?” Yagura smirk at him.

"It's not like I will come to Kyoto every day. So let me make a little tour." He

showed him all the souvenir he bought.

'I thought that I can rely more on Watanabe, but he’s no different than Yagura sensei.'

Yuuta thought to himself as he throws a fake smile at them.

Seeing how Aoki and Yagura went along so well making him realize that this is the aid the

he needs.

If only Yagura and Aoki didn't come to him that night, giving him hope for the better

day, he knew he will be drowning with pain and regrets.

Being told that is not his faults was all the thing he need to ensure himself.

"Yagura sensei, do you know Hibiki?" Yuuta asked, breaking the laugh between

Yagura and Aoki.

"Hibiki? How do you know that name?" Yagura asked him again.

"I heard it from that demon last week. He was so shock to see me and ran away

immediately. He said that he was not arrogant enough to fight with

Hibiki-sama." Explain Yuuta.

"There will come the right time for you to get to know about him. Of course, before it

all too late. Now let's go, before we miss the train." Yagura patted at

the back of both of them before walking toward the street.

Yuuta didn't give very much thought about Hibiki even though Yagura didn't give him any

answer.

He knew damn too well how demon could be mischiefs and conning just to shake the human's

belief.

After a long train ride from Kyoto to Tokyo, the three finally arrived at the ADSH.

"Okay! Yuuta, this is your room." Yagura gives him the key.

"Hasegawa, you just live next door." Aoki excited.

Yuuta gives him an awkward smile.

"Listen here carefully, this is all the rules you need to follow." Yagura looks at

him, dead in the eyes.

"One, no women into the boy’s dorm which is this building. Two, no drinking in this

dorm. Three, no testing your power here in this dorm. When stepping into this

building, you are just a mere mortal kid. And lastly, do not go beyond the

sealed door which is the one and only sealed prison under that training

ground." Yagura pointed his hand toward the training ground that can be

seem from the window.

"Got it." Yuuta replied.

"Both of you may rest for today. But tomorrow, there's no mercy in your training

Aoki." Yagura grin at him.

"G... Got it." Aoki stuttered.

"And Yuuta, we will test your chakra tomorrow. So, make sure to have a good rest

today." Yagura throws them a smile before leaving them two behind.

"Yagura sensei seems a bit scary sometimes." Said Yuuta.

“You call this scary? You don't experience his wrath yet. The thought of it gives me

shiver." Aoki replied.

"What have you done?" Yuuta laughed.

"I broke one of the rules he gave." Aoki drop silence.

"You brought a girl in?" Yuuta's eyes widened.

"What do you think I am Hasegawa? I broke the last rules obviously. I went beyond the

sealed prison." Aoki look at him.

His eyes full of thing he wants to spill.

"Stop there. I don't want further information." Yuuta step in his room and close

the door.

"Hasegawa wait! I got no one to talk about this!" Aoki begged him.

"You such no fun Hasegawa." Aoki mumbled and went to his room.

12 am in the midnight, Yuuta laying down on him bed, scrolling thru his phone's gallery.

"Nii-chan miss you, Yuri." His eyes become teary.

Yuuta starts to reminiscing his memories with his beloved sister, Hasegawa Yuri.

It takes only few minutes for Yuuta to completely close his eyes, falling asleep as he

drowns by the thought of his younger sister.

"Aaaa~" Yuuta gets up and stretch his body.

It's already 8 in the morning but he still felt sleepy and keep yawning while getting ready

as if he didn't get much rest last night.

"Hasegawa, what are you doing last night?' Aoki asked.

He looked up and down at him as Yuuta look really miserable.

"I was sleeping obviously until someone decided that it is okay to sing out loud in

the middle of the night." Yuuta frowned, as he letting out another yawn.

"Sing?" Aoki look at him, full of curiosity.

"Don't you hear it? Last night or should I say all night." Stated him.

"Stop saying such nonsense. You knew that our dorm is sound proof right?" Aoki

laugh it off.

Yuuta drops silence, didn't get the joke.

"Come, let's go to the training ground." Aoki said as he patted Yuuta's back.

They both walk and acts like Yuuta never stated such thing.

"Yuuta, looks like the uniform fit you well." Yagura greets them with a big smile.

"Yes, and it's comfortable enough." Said Yuuta as he adjusting the clothes he

wore.

A pair of black clothes fit him well like a tailor made, revealing all the toned of his

muscles.

An ankle short pant showing how long his legs were, makes his puma runner shoes stand

out more.

Yuuta completes his look with a bright red hoodie he wore underneath his jacket.

"But, are you cold?" Yagura asked him.

"A bit." Answered him.

"But it's in the middle of the summer you know." Aoki look at him.

"I don't know, I woke up today and felt chill to my bone." Yuuta stated

again.

"Stop with the chit-chat. Yuuta, move forward and stand in those circles."

Yagura asked him.

Yuuta followed his instruction well and stand in a circle in the middle of the

training ground.

"I need you to focus and relax! Start release the chakra out from your body!" Yagura

shouted from a far.

"But I don't know how! How would I know if I have chakra in me or not?!" Yuuta

shouted.

"Everyone does have chakra! Just feel the flow in your body!" Replied Yagura.

Yuuta spends a solid 1 minute, trying to make himself get into a total focus state. He

doesn't even know what were he doing.

He takes a very deep breath, relaxing all his muscles.

Yuuta shut his eyes close, try to feels the flow in his body.

Before he noticed, his hand already on fire.

"Argh!" Yuuta shock, as he trying to shake the fire away.

Slowly, the flames burn out and vanish.

He took a close look at his palm, there were no injury at all.

"What is this?" He mumbled.

"The power of Kagutsuchi." Yagura walks toward him.

"Kagutsuchi? The fire god?" Yuuta blurred.

"Yes, he was a deadly god that killed his mother when giving birth to him. Because of

that, Izanagi killed him and his power split up to eight and scatter around.

But 1000 years ago, a guy named Hibiki collect all his power yet to create

Hinokagutsuchi again. He failed the ritual and become the deadliest demon

himself. There's a told that the power of Hinokagutsuchi was scatter again

which is I don't believe at all." Yagura explains.

"Why would you think that way, sensei? Isn't that was based on the true story that

our principal told?" Aoki asks.

"Because I believe that Hibiki is not Hinokagutsuchi." Yagura said.

"Either way, Yuuta! You don't have to worry about that because lot of our student here

does have fire as their nature chakra." Yagura looks at him, smiling.

"I did not worry about that. It's not that bad to have the power of a god." Yuuta

replied.

"Glad you would say that." Yagura laughs.

"Okay now let's practise! Aoki, you teach Yuuta how to do that move. The one that I

teach you last time." Yagura passed the task to Aoki.

"You just made me fight you last time." Aoki mumbled.

"Yes, exactly!" Yagura said as he walks away.

"Sorry Hasegawa, I don't really know much what to teach you. And more importantly, my

chakra is Fujin (wind). Different element." Aoki muttered.

"Watanabe, wind you said?" Yuuta asked.

"Yes, why?" Aoki return the question.

"Didn't wind make the fire stronger?" He spoke.

"Exactly! You are genius Hasegawa!" Aoki's eyes widened.
