The Jewelry Thief

Episode 1

The Jewelry Thief

Journal Entry...

May 1, 2014

Dear journal,

My name is Zack, I’m eleven years old and my birthday is in about two months, I guess that’s a lot of information to give but no one else is really going to see this. I have been living in Sunny Days Orphanage for about a few years. There is rarely anyone that comes looking around here to adopt kids. Well it’s understandable considering where we live. I live in San Diego, California and it is so expensive for people to live there with kids if they don’t have a good job. I hope that I can be taken out of here soon so I can see how it’s like outside near the beach. Sunny Days Orphanage isn’t close to the beach and it’s super hot some days but there’s nothing we and the caretakers can do. The caretakers are too poor to do anything so they joke that if we get adopted by a rich family to not forget them or the orphanage. I won’t, they have given me and my “brothers and sisters” a good life and it’s not bad compared to other orphanages. Anyways that’s all you need to know about me, but my day has not been so bad. How’s yours?

Dear journal,

The moment that I have been waiting for has come today! I was told that some parents came and saw me and had decided to adopt me! The parent’s names were Jane Keirch and Clein Keirch. I met them a few times before I left with them of course. They decided that today was the day and came right after breakfast and as I waved good-bye to everyone they yelled at me to not forget them, I never would because they were like my family. When we left I felt kinda sad but pushed those feelings away with the fear and excitement that I had had for this day. We drove to this huge mansion near the ocean, it was so cool looking. We left my stuff and drove to a school, it was a pretty nice school, I would start this fall. I found out I’m going to go to school with their nephew and niece. I have to unpack now, I’ll tell you more later.

Dear journal,

It’s been a while, I have started to get accustomed to life here. The Keirch’s niece and nephew came today, their names are Eli(9) and Kay(11). Kay is the same age as me so I thought it would be Easy to become friends, turns out I was wrong. He seemed so mad when he saw me, and didn’t want to play at all. Eli wanted to play with me but he didn’t let her, until I threw him a soccer ball and challenged him to a game. He said yes and at the end of the hardest game of my life, he won. Afterwards, he acknowledged me and said that we should play more often. They had to leave at the end of the day but it was fun. Life here is not so bad after all, I could get used to this.

Episode 2

                                                                                                                                                June 10, 2014

Dear Journal,

Sorry I haven’t written in a while I’ve been busy, but here’s an update of what’s been happening.

My parents have been asking me to call them Mom and Dad and of course I agreed if they could help me with something, of course they said yes and then they talked to Sunny Day Orphanage  about my idea and asked if they could accept a check for 1 million dollars, I could just hear how  happy they sounded and they happily agreed to it. I thanked my parents for the generosity since I only asked if I could donate money to Sunny Days Orphanage, and they ended up giving way more than I thought they would. I went to check on the orphanage and saw that they were living in a way better state than they were before, everyone thanked me and couldn’t contain how happy they were, with this new remodel the orphanage would get more attention from other places and more kids would get adopted that way. That’s so great I hope that everyone can find the same happiness that I found!

Dear Journal,

I don’t think that my parents know when my birthday is, but maybe they do after all they got all my information on the papers before they adopted me. Although there has been no talk about it or anything. I knew I shouldn’t get my hopes up but I can’t help but be excited for my birthday coming up. I kinda hope that they do something for me. A kid can hope, right?

                                                                                                                                                July 2, 2014

Dear Journal,

Yesterday was the happiest day of my life. My parents actually surprised me with a birthday party. There were balloons, cake, presents, confetti and a bouncy house. It was the biggest party I had ever seen! Even though there were some people that I didn’t know it was so fun and I made a few friends, my cousins were there and Eli and Kay played with me all day! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love my parents! I had no idea that they were ever going to do this for me. Even though I was kinda upset that they didn’t seem to know when my birthday was, they had planned all this for me. Thank you!

                                                                                                                                           November 13, 2014

Dear journal,

Eli and Kay came to the house again this time with their parents. I actually got to meet Aunty and Uncle, apparently they have been so busy, this whole time and a butler had been bringing my cousins over to the house and I finally got the chance to meet them. My aunt’s name is Jessica and my uncle’s name is Blake. They were related to us by my father, (my uncle was his brother.) Aunt didn’t seem so happy to see me but uncle did, I greeted them and invited my cousins to play outside in the tree house. A few hours later we were told to go inside and my aunt and uncle said it was time to go. As they left I thought I saw something glinting from my aunt’s coat pocket but it must have been the zipper shining from the sun’s hot rays or something else.

Episode 3

                                                                                                                                        August 23, 2016

Dear Journal,

I’m really sorry I haven’t written to you for a while… well actually a loooong time. I’m now fourteen. Mom and Dad treat me so well and I go to school with my cousins still but they are more of my siblings than cousins. I’m quite popular, and I have a lot of friends around me now. Although some of them are only around me for money I don’t pay them attention. My aunt and uncle still visit occasionally but sometimes they don’t bring my cousins. My aunt seems to always have something shining from her pocket but I have no idea what it is, and my mom always seems to be looking for something and makes a big mess sometimes. She also seems to wear less and less jewelry now than she did before. I wonder if the two are connected...

                                                                                                                                    November 25, 2016

Dear Journal,

I have a lot to take in today, I found what was going on and how everything was connected. My aunt was taking my mom’s jewelry, but the reason was different than what I had originally thought. My aunt Jessica took the jewelry because she was jealous that my mom had more than here and that some women always had more money and fame than her, like her sister. I found all this out when I was walking by the bathroom door to get the soccer ball. I think that she was talking to somebody on the phone, it sounded like a man. I need to find out more about Aunty Jessica and her connection to the man on the phone. Also, I need to know more about her sister. She sounded so angry on the phone, that I’m scared of what she could do if she is given more time to plan things out. Aunty could do something dangerous to my mom if I’m not careful. I don’t think that uncle or his kids know this about aunty Jessica, I’ll have to be careful so I’m not caught, I don’t want to get other people in trouble.

                                                                                                                                    December 16, 2016

Dear Journal,

I found out a few things about Aunty and I also decided that it's best to warn my parents about Aunty. But when I did, they didn't believe me and laughed at me. I tried my best to warn them but now I have to protect them since they don’t believe me, that’s okay though I don’t think that I would believe me with so little evidence. Moving on to the evidence, I found out that: she had a sister called Jane and Jane was very rich, 24 yrs, and had a husband named Charlie, she also had a son that went missing at the age of five and shortly after Jane fell ill and died two months after her son’s disappearance. It says his name was Gabriel, but it also says that Charlie also died a few months after his family disappeared. They had a cabin for the summer and one night it had burned down with the husband in it, he died and the police found his ashes and everything.  I felt really bad for Jessica suddenly losing her only sister like that, until I read that the house that her sister lived in went to her only living relative, Jessica. Suddenly I started to think about how jealous Jessica was that my mom had a lot of money and how jealous she was of her sister. Maybe… no she couldn’t have.
