There she is again, Nicol Andrade, looking at herself in the mirror, dressed in her old rags to go to university. She is just 20 years old, with long, naturally blonde hair that reaches her waist. However, she keeps it tied up because according to her stepmother Carmen, Nicol is ugly and nobody wants her in this world. Nicol's psychosis has been so intense that she believes she is ugly because she doesn't even have any friends. Her only companion is her hamster, the last gift she received from her beloved father who passed away suddenly.
Nicol has to study and work as a waitress at a prestigious hotel where Carmen also works. But whatever meager salary Nicol earns, Carmen takes it away from her, claiming that Nicol owes her everything for supporting her.
Nicol is completely invisible to her classmates, as nobody approaches her due to her unfortunate appearance. She has never had a boyfriend and doesn't even know what a kiss is.
As night falls, when she has to work as a waitress, Nicol sets off on her skateboard while Carmen takes a taxi, which is unfair. But Nicol never complains; she always obeys.
Once she arrives at the hotel, Nicol quickly dresses to attend to the customers. Carmen has always been very open, even going as far as sleeping with customers for more money.
"Please behave, Cappuccino. I'll be back in a moment to feed you," she speaks sweetly to her hamster. She named him "Cappuccino" because of his brown and black fur, and for Nicol, her hamster means everything.
She closes her dressing room and then leaves it.
Upon arriving at work, the place is crowded as it is a Friday. Nicol sighs once because she doesn't like this job, but she knows she needs to work to eat and afford her school supplies.
While Carmen serves, she always looks for ways to attract attention. She is an attractive woman, indeed, but not to every man in the place.
Nicol notices two incredibly handsome men, so Carmen adjusts her breasts to make them look firm and approaches them with a big smile.
One man is dressed in black and holds a tablet, muttering under his breath, while the other dresses casually and wears luxurious black sunglasses. Carmen asks flirtatiously, "Good evening, gentlemen. How can I serve you?"
The man with sunglasses doesn't pay any attention to her, so the one with the tablet says, "Two double whiskies without ice." Carmen smiles slyly.
She takes their order and sees Nicol stumbling and rolling her eyes. Carmen despises Nicol with all her being.
Those men hadn't even noticed Carmen, so she overhears something that leaves her stunned.
"Excuse me, gentlemen, here are your drinks. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to call me," Carmen says and then walks away.
From a distance, Carmen observes those two men engaging in a slight argument. The man with the sunglasses stands up and leaves in anger. When Carmen notices several men surrounding him as if he were about to leave, she understands that he is a wealthy man.
She sees the man dressed in black with his tablet head towards the restroom, so she cautiously follows him.
"I don't know what to do, Alexa. No matter how hard I try to make Scot positive, he refuses. His bitterness towards life consumes him. He desperately wants an heir at any cost," the man speaks on the phone.
"Yes, and the thing is... Why should we be held accountable for his stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis? He says he wants a wife and is even willing to pay a fortune if necessary. However, the girl must be pure and ordinary, not someone of his status. Can you believe that? With so many women available, he wants an ordinary woman," he continues frustratedly. "Where does he think I'll find a woman like that? No way am I going to those poor places where I might get robbed or killed. You know what, I'll talk to you later, Alexa. My head is pounding. You know how much he hates being contradicted, and he just left, leaving me talking to myself. I'd better go and find out where Scot went."
The man ends the call and lets out a sigh of frustration.
Seeing her chance, Carmen speaks up.
"I have the solution to your problems. When are you willing to pay?" Carmen asks, leaning against the bathroom door. Her gaze is filled with malice, and her heart is in love with money.
The man looks Carmen up and down, then makes a gesture of disgust.
"Do you eavesdrop on conversations?" he asks sharply.
She enters the bathroom and firmly closes the door.
"You're desperate to get a girl, aren't you? Tell me how much money you're willing to pay for the one I have under my responsibility," Carmen says, sitting on the bathroom counter and crossing her legs.
"I don't think you can offer me anything interesting," the man responds with displeasure, then walks towards the door. "I am a very important man to waste my time with you," he says, and opens the door.
"Her name is Nicol, and she is a virgin," Carmen says, taking out a cigarette and sensually lighting it.
The man stops and observes her.
"Are you interested? The point is that you need a woman and I need money," Carmen takes a deep drag from the cigarette and blows the smoke almost in the man's face.
"What assures me that this girl hasn't been touched by any man?" he asks intrigued.
"It's simple, she does whatever I want. If I tell her to clean the floor with her tongue, she does it. That brat is a virgin because no one has even kissed her," Carmen replies.
"Is she that ugly?"
"For me, she's hideous, but what matters is that she's a virgin, right?"
"Are you prostituting her?"
"I've been tempted, but I haven't gone that far. So, do you want to make a deal with me or not?"
"Where can I see the girl?"
Carmen smiles maliciously.
"She's at home," Carmen lies. "You can come to my house first thing in the morning to see her," she suggests, finishing her cigarette.
"My name is Miguel, give me your address," he orders, and she obeys.
After Miguel leaves, Carmen is alone in the bathroom. She looks at herself in the mirror and says,
"At last, you're going to be useful to me, you damn bastard." Carmen laughs maliciously, then exits the bathroom. When she arrives at the bar, Nicol is cleaning the tables.
"I hate you, I hate you. Before, I hated your existence, but now knowing that you're worth something almost makes me like you," Carmen laughs and prepares to work.
"Ah, she's too tired!" Nicol whispers and glances at the customers. She wishes the night would quickly pass so she can go home and be in her room, the only place where she feels good.
Nicol approaches a table because the other waiters are busy, and it's her turn to take care of the one with three girls and two boys.
"Good evening," she greets nervously.
"Watts! What an awful waitress," one of the girls mocks, and Nicol swallows hard.
"What would you like to order?" Nicol asks, focusing on her notepad.
"Bring us five martinis, but hurry up," one of the women orders, displaying an odious attitude.
Nicol hurries to fulfill the order and then waits to deliver it, but she is very afraid. Socializing is not her strong suit.
She places the tray on the table and prepares to serve the martinis to each person.
Nicol was about to leave when she is told, "Who said you could leave?" It's the woman who has been making Nicol feel bad since she arrived.
"Do you need... anything else, miss?" Nicol asks without looking into her eyes.
"Yes, this," the woman says and throws her martini in Nicol's face. Everyone at the table starts mocking Nicol.
Nicol feels incredibly humiliated, but sadly, she is used to being the nerdy girl who gets stepped on.
"Oh, are you going to cry?" the mocking woman asks, and Nicol keeps her gaze low. "Quick, bring another martini, fifth-rate waitress."
Nicol nods and quickly leaves. Carmen, who witnessed everything from a distance, mocks Nicol's misfortune.
The poor girl comes back to the table with the martini, and upon realizing that they don't want anything else but to mock her, Nicol heads towards her locker.
She starts crying like a little girl.
"Why doesn't anyone love me? Why does everyone want to hurt me?" Nicol speaks to herself amid deep sobs.
Nicolás listens to her Capuchin hamster making noise, so she dries her tears and opens her locker.
"Capu, calm down, I'm not crying. Let's go home, it's time. I'm so tired and I just want to be in my bed, and you want to be in your little bed too, right?"
Her hamster makes faint whimpering sounds.
"I'm not sad. You love me, don't you? You care so much about me, Capuchin. I'm going to change and then we can leave."
Nicol tries to be strong and puts her hamster in its locker while she quickly gets dressed and then grabs her skateboard.
Nicolás walks through the deserted streets, grateful to God that nothing has happened to her, as she has an angel that accompanies her everywhere, her father.
She feels the cold hitting her face and simply can't help but cry, feeling so sad.
When she arrives home, even more melancholy overtakes her. She remembers that she didn't have to work, her father always told her that her duty was to prepare herself to be someone in life.
Nicol sighs and enters the house, thinking that Carmen had already arrived, but she hasn't.
She goes to her room and undresses, then takes her hamster out of her backpack and puts it in its little house.
"The good thing is that tomorrow is Sunday, Capuchin, and we don't have to work. Although I have lots of tasks to do, I just hope Carmen doesn't make me do chores."
Nicol turns off the light and lies down to sleep, exhausted.
The next day, someone knocks heavily on her bedroom door.
"Wake up already!" Carmen shouts and hits hard.
Nicol sighs.
"I'm coming, Carmen," the girl responds without much enthusiasm, then looks at her hamster. "It seems like today won't be a good day, Capuchin."
Nicol opens the door and Carmen is all annoyed.
"We have an important visitor today, so clean the house."
"Visitor, who?" the girl asks, surprised.
"Just clean the damn house, and it better be spotless. I'm going shopping, and when I come back, everything should be ready. And by the way, make lunch too. But hurry up, there's no time to waste," Carmen gestures with her fingers.
Nicol nods and heads to the bathroom to freshen up, and then Carmen shakes her head and leaves.
Nicol has it rough. She starts cleaning the entire house and cooking, everything falls on her alone because Carmen can't even wash her own clothes.
At 12:30pm, Nicolás finishes everything and yawns out of exhaustion and tiredness.
Carmen arrives with shopping bags.
"Go and bath quickly, the visitor is already coming and I don't want them to see you looking like a mess," Carmen orders.
"Carmen, is there any possibility that you attend to your visitor alone? I mean... I've already finished everything in the house and I have tasks to do, plus I'm tired."
Carmen laughs like a witch.
"I can't stand you, Nicol. Why do you have to ask so many questions? Now go and do as I told you," Carmen pushes her, and Nicol lowers her gaze.
She enters her room and does what Carmen instructed her to do, but something doesn't sit right with her. It's the short dress she was asked to wear. Despite being a better garment, new and without any tears, Nicol prefers her tattered clothes over that provocative dress.
Carmen is eagerly waiting for the visitor until she hears two cars parking in front of the house. She looks out the window and sees two luxury cars.
From one of them, Miguel, well-dressed and handsome, steps out. Then, another man gets out, who is incredibly alluring, wearing luxury glasses and perfectly dressed. And his hair, oh, his blond hair looks so soft and tempting to touch.
Five bodyguards exit the other car.
Carmen adjusts her breasts to make them appear firmer and fixes her hair. She opens the door before Miguel can knock.
"Good morning, Mr. Miguel. Please come in," she says and opens the door wide.
Scott Hamilton enters with elegance and confidence. He quickly surveys the house.
