Diana's POV
Walking to kindergarten, I was snapped out of my thoughts by a ring; it was my phone ringing. I looked at the caller and it was Saray; she's been my best friend for more than 7 years, and even though we're 19 years old now, we're still best friends and we can't go a day without meeting each other.
Saray: Why are you late on your first day?!
Me: Good morning to you too, I just woke up late but I'll be there in 2 minutes, don't worry.
Saray: Hopefully. By the way, I have something to tell you when I see you, it is related to a boy in your class.
Me: Alright, see you in a minute.
I then continued walking to the kindergarten with a smile visible on my face. It is my first day teaching in a kindergarten and it is even my first job ever. I was surprised when they accepted Saray and I because we're only 19, but I was happy at the same time because I have been wanting a job badly for the past few months.
.........
"What did you have to tell me?" I asked Saray, catching my breath as I was walking quickly to arrive faster.
"Emilio Matinelli's son is in our class" She said blankly.
"Okay, and?" I was dumbfounded; his son is in our class, so what am I supposed to do about it?
"Are you stupid!? That's Emilio Martinelli! His son is in our class, don't piss him off or even look at him in a wrong way, he can easily tell his dad and you'll be his dogs' dinner" She said angrily, glaring at me yet trying to convince me.
I rolled my eyes at her and left her in the hallway, going to my class cause I don't want to be late any minute extra.
"Good morning class, I'm Miss Everett. Today, we'll only introduce ourselves and then color some paintings that I'm sure y'all will love" I said, writing my name on the board so they memorize it.
All of the kids introduced themselves and then I called them to come choose which painting they wanted to paint. Every kid came and took a painting and all of them started painting their paintings, except Nathaniel; he's Emilio's kid which Saray was talking about before.
"Can I sit here?" I asked Nathaniel, as he nodded his head.
"Why didn't you pick a painting? Don't you want to paint?" I asked him softly, and he shook his head as a reply.
"Why? Do you want to do other things, or do you want us to paint together?" I asked again, he looked at me thinking for a while.
"I don't want to do anything, I want to go home" He replied sadly, he broke my heart when he said that.
I didn't want him to get sad or to be sad, because he looks like a very precious boy and I'm sure that he's very spoiled.
"How about we paint a bit together and then when we finish you'll go home?" I asked, persuading him to paint with me.
"Pinky promise?" He said, showing his tiny pinky.
"Pinky promise" I replied, reaching for his pinky with mine with a smile.
I then got us two paint sheets and told Saray to take care of the other kids as I have to stay with him, and then went back to Nathaniel.
Then we both began to paint, and I asked him to tell me something about himself; what he likes to do and some stuff to make him comfortable as he looked a bit uncomfortable when other kids came to me and talked to me, so I tried to give him as much attention as I can so he can get more comfortable.
"I'm done! Look, I drew daddy and I!" He exclaimed happily as he showed me his painting.
"Wow, good job!! It looks amazing, I'm sure your daddy will love it" I smiled at him as he smiled back widely.
.........
I was standing with a few kids and Nathaniel was one of them. All of the parents were coming to pick up their kids, but no one has yet come to pick up Nathaniel.
"Nate, do you know who is coming to pick you up?" I asked him as he shook his head.
"Daddy said that he will come if he is able to, and if he isn't then he will send uncle Enzo to pick me up" He answered as I nodded my head, and then I picked him up and went back inside the kindergarten to the administration.
I took his father's number and called him.
Emilio: Who is it?
Me: Hello sir, I am Diana, from Nathaniel's kindergarten, no one has picked him up yet and I have been waiting here with him for more than 30 minutes.
Emilio: I'm on my way.
He then hung up the call.
"Your dad is on his way" I told Nathaniel as he looked at me with teary eyes.
"No no no! Don't cry baby, he's on his way" I said, worriedly caressing his cheeks with my thumbs.
"T-this isn't t-the f-first time h-he f-forgets about m-me" he stuttered as he clutched on my shirt.
"I'm sure he didn't forget about you, maybe he was just so busy with work and couldn't make it. Don't cry, he's already on his way" I replied, hugging him and patting his back with one hand while rubbing circles on his back with the other.
"Nathaniel!" I heard a voice say from behind as I turned around.
There he stood Emilio Martinelli, brown slicked back hair, honey brown eyes that could probably cut a stone from how fiery they are, broad shoulders, muscles visible from under his white see-through t-shirt, he was beyond handsome and beyond any word that means beautiful, hot, sexy; he was complete.
"No daddy! Y-you l-left N-Nate" Nathaniel clutched on my shirt more and held onto me, refusing to go to his father.
"Daddy's sorry, he had lots of work to do and wasn't able to come get you" Emilio said, apologizing to Nathaniel while coming slowly closer to both of us.
"Come here baby, daddy's sorry, alright? He will never forget to pick you up ever again" He added again, spreading his arms to hug Nathaniel.
Nathaniel jumps out of my embrace and runs to hug Emilio.
Emilio hugs him back tighter and rubs his back in a comforting way.
"I'm sorry Nate, I really am; I'm sorry that I forgot to pick you up, sorry for making you sad, sorry for everything" Emilio said, tearing up as his son wipes away his tears.
Wow! I never thought that I would ever see the great mafia king Emilio Martinelli in such a vulnerable state, he looks broken, sorry, and hurt that he hurt his son. He really loves him so much that he cried in front of me.
"Thank you for staying with him until I came here, Mrs..." He said, not sure what my last name is.
"Mrs. Everett, but you can call me Diana, and it was a pleasure Mr.Martinelli, Nathaniel is a very nice kid; you surely raised him well" I said, smiling at him as he stood up with Nate in his arms.
He smiled back and told Nathaniel to say goodbye to me.
"Goodbye Mrs.Everett, see you tomorrow!" Nathaniel exclaimed happily as he waved goodbye with his tiny hands, I waved goodbye and then they both went from there.
Diana's POV
I was walking to the kindergarten when a Ferrari pulled over next to me, I continued walking ignoring the car as I don't know who's in it.
Then Emilio got out of it and called me.
"Diana!" He said, making me turn around facing him.
"Hello" I questioned, my confusion very clear.
"Come in, I'll give you a ride" He added as I frowned.
"Uh-there's no need, it's not that far from here, and I like walking" I replied, not wanting to go with him as I don't want anyone seeing us together and thinking that there's something between us, and I don't want anyone spreading fake rumors about me dating the Capo Di Capi.
"It's final, you're going with Nathaniel and I" He demanded calmly, yet there was a pinch of anger in the back of his voice.
"Listen here Mr. Martinelli, you are no one to order me around, I am not one of your whores to order around, so you better consider that every time you want to talk to me-oh, and just so you know, I'm not going to get into that car" I snapped angrily, my voiced laced with venom thoroughly.
"Feisty... I like it" I heard him say with a chuckle, before I continued walking to the kindergarten.
I was actually surprised that he didn't say anything disrespectful or even kill me, because I've heard stories that he's killed thousands of people for saying the slightest disrespectful words.
.........
"Good morning Mrs. Everett!" Nate exclaimed, running towards me as he hugged my legs tightly.
"Good morning, little guy!" I greeted him happily as I picked him up.
He pouted and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Why are you sad, hmm? You can tell me" I said, looking at him with an eye-to-eye smile to cheer him up.
"I'm not little, I'm a big guy now, look I even have muscles just like daddy!" He said, flexing his hands trying to show me his imaginary muscles.
"Wow, you really have muscles just like your daddy, I'm sure you're gonna be as strong as your daddy when you grow up, Nate" I replied, caressing his hair.
"He'll surely be-but I'm actually shocked that he let you call him Nate" Emilio said, coming from behind me.
"Why do you always appear out of nowhere like a ghost?" I questioned, holding my hand over my chest as he scared the shit out of me.
He laughed at me and put his hand in his pockets.
"By the way, what did you mean by him letting me call him Nate? Does he usually not like it when someone calls him Nate?" I asked him, waiting patiently for an answer as I did not understand.
"No, he only lets me call him Nate, he hates when anyone else calls him with that nickname, he says that daddy is only allowed to call him that" He explained what he meant, and I didn't expect that at all.
"Nathaniel, do you want me to stop calling you Nate?" I asked Nathaniel to know if he's uncomfortable with me giving him that nickname, because I don't want him to be uncomfortable.
"No, you can call me Nate," He replied, shocking Emilio and I.
"Well he definitely likes you very much, more than his grandparents, aunt, and uncle, because he threw a tantrum when they called him Nate" Emilio stated as I was a bit confused on why he would like me more than his relatives even when he has only known me for a day, but he's the only one who know the answer to my question and I guess the answer will be left unknown because I don't think I will ask him any time soon.
.........
"So now... we're gonna see what you all want to become when you grow up" I told the kids as they happily squealed, and raised their hands to answer.
"Firefighter"
"Policeman"
"Princess"
"Doctor"
"Pilot"
"CEO"
"Makeup artist"
"Barber"...
All the kids said what they want to become once they grow up except Nate; he was sitting on the table in the corner of the room with his head hung low, looking at his lap with a blank face.
"What about you Nathaniel, what do you want to become once you grow up?" I asked him softly, going towards him slowly.
"I-I want to become s-strong l-like d-daddy" He answered, stuttering with teary eyes.
I immediately went to him and picked him up and hugged him tightly.
"Mrs. Saray is gonna take care of you kids, and I will be back in a bit" I told the kids as I left the classroom with Nate in my arms, leaving them with Saray.
I took Nate to an empty classroom and sat down with him on my lap.
"Why are you sad, baby? Why are you crying? Did something happen?" I asked him, gently caressing his cheeks.
He didn't respond, and only tightened our already-tight hug and dug his face in the crook of my neck while sobbing and sniffing badly.
"Shh, don't cry, everything is okay, I'll always be here for you, okay? Don't cry, you can always tell me anything and I'll always be here for you" I stated, rubbing soothing circles on his back to calm him down.
"I-I just w-want a m-mother, that's a-all I w-want" He stuttered out, shattering me into a million pieces.
This little bundle of joy who everyone thinks has a perfect life because of how much money his father has and because of how spoiled he is, is the most broken little kid who only wants a mother's love which he never felt.
Tears started streaming down my face from how emotional he'd got me, I hugged him tighter if it was even possible and kissed his cheek and forehead multiple times.
"You want to go home, baby? Hm?" I asked him, wiping his tears with my thumbs as he nodded his head softly.
"Alright, I'll call your dad to come pick you up" I said, taking out my phone from my pocket and calling Emilio.
Emilio: What is it?
Me: Are you always this rude?
Emilio: hehe, sorry love I didn't look at the caller id, but do you need something? Did something happen to Nate?
Me: Don't call me love, and come pick up Nate.
Emilio: Why? Did something happen to him?
Me: He needs to go home, I'll tell you why once you get here, it can't be said over the phone.
Emilio: On my way.
He hung up the call just like that. Again! Is he always this rude, that he doesn't say hello nor goodbye?
"Your dad is on his way, but we have to inform the principal that your dad is going to pick you up so I don't get fired from my job" I said joyfully, tickling him a bit to make him smile.
"Hehhehe, s-s-stop!" He said, stuttering from laughter.
"There's that laugh!" I exclaimed, and stopped tickling him as I took him in my arms and went to the principal's office to tell her.
I may or may not have lied a bit to the principal and said that he had hurt his head and was crying badly and pleading for his dad, because I'm sure that if I'd told her that I called his father because he was crying for a mother, then she would have started screaming at me as she's very very strict.
Diana's POV
I was sitting in the classroom with Nate when suddenly Saray stopped in the middle of her conversation with the kids and looked towards the door with wide eyes.
"What happened, Saray?" I asked her.
"I did" A deep husky voice said from behind her and I immediately knew it was Emilio.
"We'll talk outside" I said as I got up with Nate in my arms, and tapped Saray's shoulder and then went outside with him.
"What happened?" He immediately asked as he tried to take Nate from me.
Nate immediately went to him and dug his face in his chest.
"I was asking every kid what they want to be when they grow up and everyone was answering, except Nate, and then when asked him what he wants to be, he said that he wants to be strong like daddy, but his eyes were teary and he was on the verge of crying so I took him outside the class and calmed him down, and when I asked him why he was crying, he-he said he j-just wanted a m-mother" I explained to him, tearing up and stuttering a bit at the end as I got emotional.
"It was very hard for him before to see other kids with mothers while he didn't have one but then he stopped asking for one and I thought he forgot, and I was thankful because I don't want him to stay sad thinking why others have mothers and he doesn't, but I don't know why he remembered now, but I can't get him a mother, how am I supposed to get one? Go and buy one?" He said making me chuckle a bit.
"It isn't like that Mr. Martinelli, maybe if you got a girlfriend then she would treat him as her son and he'll get better, but trust me if he stays like that with no mother's love, he'll get depressed and you're the one who's gonna lose their son" I replied, advising him but I'm sure that if I had talked to a wall, it would have listen to me before he would.
"Then be mine" He said simply.
"Yeah, no thanks" I replied, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"No"
"Yes"
"I already said no"
"Don't worry I won't give up, see you tomorrow Mrs. Everett" He said as he finally went with Nate still snuggled up in his chest.
Emilio's POV
"Nate? Look at daddy" I said as I got in the back of the limo.
He shook his head and sobbed softly.
"Baby, look at daddy, you know that it hurts me so much to see you like that" I repeated, patting his back while trying to hold back my tears.
He then slowly took his head out of my chest and looked at me with his red, puffy eyes and nose, and the dried tears were visible on his face.
"Did anyone say anything to you, hmm? Did they make fun of you? Tell me" I caressed his cheeks.
"N-no, I... I always s-see e-everyone in the k-kindergarten has a m-mommy and I d-don't have one. W-why am I d-different?" He questioned in sadness and sorrow, sobbing really hard, making my heart clench at his thoughts.
He really think like that of himself?
"Don't say that baby, no one is better than you nor you're better than anyone, always remember this, okay? And remember that you don't need anyone, but if you want a mom then you're gonna have one, just wait a bit, alright?" I comforted him as he nodded his head and wiped away my tears that I didn't know were even there.
I wiped his tears too and then kissed both of his cheeks.
"Who is gonna be my mommy?" He asked softly, making me chuckle.
"Mrs. Everett" I replied, looking out the window.
"My teacher?" He asked to make sure.
"Yeah, but don't tell her anything, okay? Just try to make her love you so much just like I am trying to do" I added as he smiled and nodded his head.
"You love her, don't you daddy? I love her so much, she's the nicest lady I ever met and she also treats me very nicely and takes care of me" He continued making smile widely, knowing that he loves her so much and that she treats him nicely.
"Maybe I do, and maybe I don't, but don't worry your little head about it. How about I take you to the park?" I replied as he squealed in happiness.
"Park! Can I get ice cream?-No, cotton candy!-Wait, I want a hot dog!" He said, unsure of what he wants, making me laugh at his cuteness.
"We can get whatever you want"I said, messing up his hair as he hugged me saying thank you, and I kissed the top of his head.
I'm so lucky to have a son like him, he is a very nice kid, isn't a picky eater, he's very handsome-like his dad, isn't a spoiled brat, and he appreciates every little act.
Sometimes, I even feel that I don't deserve a son like him but then I remember that no one else deserves him, so he's stuck with me, but he loves me very much just as I do.
He's my little bundle of joy, the light to my darkness, and my stress reliever; whenever I am angry or mad or even feeling insecure as I'm also human, I go to his room or where he is and the second I see him, all my pain, anger, and worry immediately vanishes and I smile like an idiot just by looking at him.
