Mal

"I love you, Shin…"

"Mal!... Take my hand!"

"They are all dead because of you! The only people who cared about me!

"Hello… Nana."

"Mal… Wake up."

I woke up inside my aunt's van with my sister on my right side and my mom on my left. Behind the wheel was my cousin Leanna with her sister Laura sitting in the front seat.

"Hey, what's with you? Your legs are shaking…" My sister complained. I looked down and noticed my leg was brushing up against her thigh. "Sorry… I'm just dealing with something, okay? I didn't mean to brush my leg on you…" I couldn't really say anything under my breath because I was still trying to hold myself together from the dream I had.

Nikki then asked, "Mal… Why are you sweating so much? Are you okay?"

I wanted to lie and pretend everything was alright but… I couldn't. I was panting hard and my face felt hot…

I put my head down and sighed, "...No. I keep having the same dreams, over and over again. Like a song playing on repeat… I mean, seriously… They scared me so much last night that I stayed up. I'm too scared to fall asleep again because of it… I tried taking sleeping pills but damn it… These images just play on and on in my head, even when I'm awake… It's just so frustrating…"

As I took one glance at my sister, I noticed a small smirk on her face, "What?" I asked and she teased, "Sounds like to me you're going through a horny phase right now… So who's the lucky guy?" I immediately blushed at the question because my sister knows I'm a huge anime nerd and knows I would have a crush on anime characters. Most of the time she would tease and brag about it.

Even though Nikki knew me that well, she didn't know everything. I looked away from her smug face, trying to hide my blushy expression, "S-shut up! That's not what it is… D-dumbass…"

Leanna sees my pinkish face through the mirror in front of the windshield, "Those blushy cheeks of yours says otherwise, Mal." She joked. Embarrassed how Leanna pointed out that my face was turning pink, I covered my face trying to hide it.

Laura then stops typing on her phone, "Come on, y'all. We're here." And gets out of the van.

Leanna asks, "Hey Mal, are you gonna help me with the bags?" I nodded yes and we both got out to take the luggage out from the back of the van. My sister and my mom got inside my aunt's house. When I looked at my aunt's home, it looked almost like a luxury home.

I couldn't help but admire how amazing it looked, "Ho.ly Stars. Who knew Waterfront houses looked so stylish?" and Leanna replied, "I don't know, you tell me.".

As we both carried the luggage into the house, the inside of my aunt's home looked amazing. Almost reminded me of how those luxury houses looked from one of those Top-Billing shows. Stylish and well furnished.

My jaw hangs open in surprise as I examine the whole house, "My gosh…" until my aunt Ellie then calls out. "Hey, Mal.G! I thought you were never gonna come visit.".

My aunt always liked stylish things, which I never had a problem with. Except her taste in fashion. I replied, "I guess I had nothing better to do at home.".

As my sister and my mom carry our luggage to the guest room, Leanna then taps my shoulder, "Hey, Mal. Come, there's something I wanna show you.".

I followed her to a room that looked like no one slept in. The only thing that was in the room was five huge stacks of blank paper and in front of me was a typewriter on a table.

"Is that… a typewriter?" I asked as I walked a bit closer towards the table.

Leanna replies, "Yeah. No ones ever been here in this room since my mom bought the house. But it's yours if you want to draw somewhere quiet."

As I looked at the typewriter, I could tell by the looks of it, it was pretty old. I never really used a typewriter before but something about this thing felt strangely odd. When I traced my fingers on the small letters, I swore I felt the object vibrate as if it was alive.

I immediately pulled my hand away and stepped back, frightened by what I just felt inside that thing. Leanna then asks confusedly, "Mal, What's wrong?".

I didn't want her to think I was overreacting or being paranoid, so I just decided to ignore it and said, "I wanna go see what's outside.".

I left the room but now for a brief moment, I felt like I was being followed by someone. Not Leanna. But something else. As I headed to the backyard, my worries were then washed away by an amazing ocean view.

"This looks awesome." I thought to myself as I leaned over the glass railing where below the cliff was the waves crashing into the stone shear wall. My sister warns me, "Hey, careful. Don't lean forward too much. You'll fall off."

When I move away, Nikki then asks, "So did you see that weird looking typewriter in that room?" And I nodded.

The thought that I felt something strange come from that thing then came back to me. "Did you see the typewriter?" When I asked Nikki if she touched it, she replied, "No. Why?"

I didn't want to tell her but I had to because even if she didn't believe me, at least she'll know that there's something off about the typewriter. "Something about that typewriter just creeps me out. Earlier I swore I felt that thing move." My sister looked confused at first when I said this, "Move? What do you mean move?"

"I think that thing is alive, Nikki. Sorry if I'm being crazy but I swear. That thing is creepy." When I spilled this out, Nikki paused for a moment and then snickered, "I see what's the problem.".

I looked at her confused, "You do?" And she replied, "You're only saying this because you wanna go home and be in your happy place. In your room just playing on your phone all day." I grunted when she said this.

"No… that's not it."

"Then what is it?" When Nikki asked, I looked over her shoulder and saw her boyfriend behind her, holding baby Zara.

"I…" The thought of dating guys then came to my head. The truth is I always had trouble dating guys. I got cheated on once and it felt like a sledgehammer hitting my chest. Ever since I left school, I always stayed at home, since it was lockdown due to the Covid Pandemic.

I blushed, "I wanted to ask for some dating advice." It became quiet for a moment until my sister then laughed, "I knew it! You want a boyfriend." I nodded to her answer. Embarrassed by what I just said, I instantly regretted it.

"Girl… You do not want a boyfriend, trust me. Don't have a boyfriend." It wasn't really the advice I wanted to hear from her but at least I told Nikki about the typewriter, since that was the only thing that I wanted to talk to her about, besides from the whole dating thing.

(Nighttime) 7:00PM

It was 7PM and I sat in the room where the typewriter was, drawing random sketches of my character Maliza who I loved drawing. I made her look almost like me but with a shy and innocent persona with a diamond on her belly, which was like the core of her power. I stopped and checked my phone.

For a moment, I drifted off into daydreaming, thinking about how it would actually be like to live in the anime world. The food, the studying, even the magic. I had so many thoughts about going to that place. It was like a dream playing on a loop in my head.

"You're wonderful…"

"Stay with me… Please…"

"Mal…"

"Mal! Mal! Hey!" I snap out of my daydreaming when I hear my mom's voice call out to me. She walked in the room and stood in front of me frustrated as if she'd been calling me forever. Even though I wasn't wearing earphones, I guess I got so lost in my daydreaming that I forgot my mom was calling me.

"Mal, this is like the 10th time I've been calling you!" My mom yelled. Most of the time, mom would get like this. Always angry and frustrated with me and my sister twenty four seven. But I didn't blame her. My mom has a lot of issues when it comes to being a school teacher.

"Mom, you do realise I don't have earphones on, right?" I asked. My mom sees my phone along with my earphones right next to me on the floor with my drawing equipment.

My mom replied, "Then why didn't you reply the first time I called!?..." I didn't want to start an argument with her because I knew how aggressive mom can be when she's stressed out like this. Sometimes I thought that maybe there was something wrong with mom. No one gets this aggressive when it comes to small things. When I was a child, she was ten times worse.

I sighed, "What is it, mom?" Before my mom could answer, Nikki then pokes her head out by the door. "Hey y'all, food is ready."

As my aunt placed the food down on the table in the living room, everyone came and sat down. Leanna hands out the plates to everyone and Laura places the bowls of food in the middle of the table along with the glass cups for the drinks.

While sitting down next to my sister, I felt my phone buzz in one of my pockets. When I took out my phone, my mom then snatched my phone away. "Get off your phone…" She said with a serious look on her face, which annoyed me.

"We didn't even start eating yet…" I complained. As soon as the drinks were poured, we all started digging in the bowls of food.

The first bowl had a lot of fried chicken, the second had rice, the third had baked potatoes, the fourth had cheese sauce with broccoli and the fifth was a small bowl with baked beans.

I got done dishing out some food and started eating. The food tasted heavenly. Aunt Ellie always made the best chicken along with the baked potato which tasted crispy.

"Mommy! Mommy! Nana…" Zara pulls my sister's top and points at the baby bottle next to her. Nikki smiles, "You wanna sleep now? Are you done eating?" Zara nods when she asks. "Auntie… sleep." Zara looks at me and smiles, showing her cute baby teeth.

I chuckle, "Naw… You tried?" Zara nods again and Nikki picks her up and gives her the bottle. "Excuse me, when was the last time you worked out?" When I was about to take another wing from the bowl of chicken, my mom immediately asked me that question, which made me pull my hand away.

"I told you, mom. Yesterday." I worked almost everyday trying to lose some of the weight which my mom kept complaining and shaming me for. "You're not taking another wing, you've had enough." My mom moves the bowl away from my reach.

"Adele, let the child eat. Why ar-"

"No, it's fine. I'm full anyways. Thank you." I try to play it okay as if it didn't bother me but the fact that my mom shamed me in front of everyone made me want to cry.

This isn't the first time my mom embarrassed me in public or talked bad about me in front of guests, this happens almost every time I make small mistakes.

As I walked away with my phone, I then heard Aunt Ellie confront my mom about what she said to me. “Adele… Why are you like this with Mal? She’s-”

“Did you see how fat she is? Don’t come lecture me about how I must raise my child. I’m not gonna let Mal grow up looking like a pig everyday.” My mom interjects. “Well, look who’s talking!” Said Nikki.

I didn’t really expect to hear my sister defend in front of my relatives because I always thought she’d rather agree with my mom and stay out of things but this was different.  “Just because Mal isn’t losing enough of the weight doesn’t mean she isn’t trying. And how would you know? You're never at home… She even does laundry for you, I mean c'mon … What else is she supposed to do other than jog every morning?”

“And what do you do, other than lay in bed until the evening and smoke marijuana every time you're at home when you're supposed to be a mom? Don’t come in and put your mouth in everything, Nikki.” What my mom said really upset my sister and my aunt. ”Excuse me? I’m not the one who's constantly saying bad things about my little sister and calling her all kinds of rude stuff!”

“Like what, Nikki?” Leanna asked. “Like your so stupid, you fat ***, you brainless idiot and all that. Most of the things she says to her are way worse…”

Everyone in the room looked at my mom with disbelief and shock when my sister said.

“Adele, I can you say those thing-”

“I said don’t lecture me about raising my children and you're still doing it!” Said my mom. My Aunt Ellie then looked at her with disgust. “How can you be so horrible to Mal?”

It wasn’t long before my mom finally noticed me standing by the door in tears. She didn’t even look at me with remorse, she just rolled her eyes as if my reaction meant nothing to her. “What? Why are you standing there?”

“Aunt Adele! Apologise to her right now.” Laura insisted but my mom didn't listen and continued to insult me in front of my relatives and my niece who was sitting on my sister's lap while fiddling with her phone. “What? She’ll get over it. She wants to keep herself big with me with that ugly face… Hmph!”

Those words were enough to make me burst into tears. I ran back to the room where I was drawing. When I slammed the door behind me, I put my back against the door and sat down on the floor.

I couldn't stop crying. I tried to stop myself but my tears came down my cheeks like a waterfall. My voice was shaking, I couldn't talk. It felt like I was drowning, like water was going inside me and my lungs felt like they were screaming for air. I decided to listen to an asmr audio to call me down. The audio felt pleasant and relaxing until I started hearing whispers in the background. At first I thought the audio was bugging out but when I took out my earphones the whispers got louder. “What the? Are they playing music or something?” I thought as I got up from the floor. I opened the door and saw everything was dark. No lights. No nothing. Snow started coming into the house and the air felt cold. “What? Is this… snow?” I thought as I walked through the house, looking for my family and my relatives, only to then hear the whispers again coming from outside. I went to go look and saw the pool was frozen and the railing was iced. I looked over and saw the ocean below was clear. No waves, just a still water surface. Suddenly…

"Eh!?" I felt a pair of hands push me off over the railing and into the water below.

Everything went black for a split second until I then woke up on shore near the house above me. I coughed and gasped for air as I slowly got on my knees. As I looked at the water, I noticed everything around me was gone… No houses, no people, no cars. There was nothing around me. It felt like I was dreaming… because the ocean was all around me… and darkness. The only thing that was there was just my aunt's house and the sea. There was no moon in the sky… but I looked below me and saw my shadow.

Suddenly, I heard a strange voice. I looked up and I saw a shadow figure through the window where the typewriter was. I immediately went up to go see if my family was looking for me. "Am I hallucinating?" I thought this as I got inside the house. When I looked around and saw no one was there, I heard the whispers again. It sounded sad.. "Hey! Where are you guys? Hello!?" I went into the room and… no one was there.

It then came to me. No one was there. Everyone was gone. All that there was… was just the room with the typewriter.

"No… No… Hello?… Anyone?" I felt alone. It was like my world was falling apart and all I wanted to do at this point was cry. Suddenly, a dark power slowly began to emerge from the typewriter and at that moment I felt it force its way into my head.

I groaned, "Uh! What is that!?" I put my hands on my head and dug my nails in, trying to fight back but the pain and the sadness I felt took over me. I could hear my mom's hurtful words in my head repeating the same things over and over again.

"You can't do anything right! Your so stupid! You're worthless! Why can't you be normal!?" Those hurtful words were enough to make me shutter. When the pain suddenly stopped, I could feel that there's someone behind me. I turned around slowly and saw another version of me but with dark shadows floating behind her.

She breathes and chuckles wickedly, "Hello… Mal." When she smiles ear to ear, I fall backwards, frightened by her evil grin. "Wh-what… are you?" I asked nervously.

"Stop being so scared. I'm here because you freed me. Remember, that old typewriter over there?" I look back at the typewriter behind me then back at her but she's gone.

"Gettin' the hint yet?" I jump when she speaks in my ear from behind me. As I crawl towards the door, my shadowy self looks at me with amusement across her face. She then picks up a paper of Maliza that I recently finished. She then pouts as she examines the drawing and then looks at me.

"She looks just like you… Is she like your daughter or something?" I couldn't answer her question. Even though she wore my face, I was still terrified seeing the dark shadows clinging on to her.

"Hmph… you're quiet. But since we just met, I guess I can't blame you for being stunned. Even though it is kinda cute." When she placed the drawing down on the table, I then asked, "Are you some kind of genie or something?"

There was silence for a moment until the dark clone started laughing, "Genie!?... You must be joking!..."

I frowned as she laughed, "Don't make fun of me! I was… just asking." The Dark Entity then stops laughing and touches the typewriter. "I heard about your mom. You shouldn't be sorry. Ungrateful, selfish and emotionless beings like her don't deserve your love or affection. But you see, the little typewriter here isn't any ordinary typewriter. It can make the things you write come true. You know, like a story. Anything you write will become your reality."

"A story?... What do you mean… like a book?" I asked. As her fingers tap the small letters, the typewriter all then suddenly changes from old to brand new. The letters we now wiped clean and the surface on its sides were polished.

"Yes. You see, this typewriter is very powerful. Anything you write on a simple blank page, that story you create… will come true. Once that story is complete, your world will be more different then the cruel one you're living in." As she moved the chair away from the table, I got up on my feet and walked closer towards the typewriter.

I look back at her, "So you're saying… if I write you a story, will my life change?" And she nodded yes.

As I sat down, I then thought, "How do I start this?" Until my shadow self in the darkness then touches my shoulder. "Remember, once it's written… it can't be unwritten. What's done is done. So please… choose your decisions wisely."

I sighed, "Alright… I'll write. I'll do whatever it takes... to fix what's wrong, in this broken world."

As I began typing, the dark shadow behind me then started making an evil laugh which then became louder and more hysterical than any laugh I've ever heard before.

The darkness around me consumed my thoughts, and the Dark Entity whispered every instruction and every detail that I must write. Little did I realise, my story had only just begun.

A Few Minutes Later…

Knowing that I've seen the story of so many worlds, I didn't have any other option but to make this the biggest story yet. I've never written a story in my life but I was willing to take the risks. If it meant saving my mom, it would mean saving the other worlds too.

I look at one of my drawings next to the crumpled paper beside me and see Maliza's face smiling happily . This gave me the idea to add her along with the other characters that I've been wanting to write a story about for a long time.

Alright… where to start…

"So… What story do you plan on writing, Writer?" The Entity gibed as I placed my hands on the small key letters of the typewriter.

I sighed, "Well… I'm trying to figure it out. It's my first time writing something, you know."

The Entity then snickered, "Come on, at least write one word. Like… Start a prologue and then when you're done with all of the chapters, end it with an epilogue. It's that simple."

I glared at it with annoyance, "Thanks for the advice, dumbass."

Merging the worlds in one story sounds crazy but as I said before… I am willing to take the risks. The moment I pressed one of the key letters on the typewriter was the beginning of my story. Starting with Maliza.

Maliza

I was always told that I came from another planet. Some people say I came from nowhere. Of course, I knew I was brought here without knowing where I came from.

My name is Maliza…

Of course, living on earth is never easy. Protecting the ones you love is the most difficult part but it's worth risking your life.

Me and my sister, we're both gems but we're not related. When Malia found me, she took me in, raised me and taught me everything about earth. How to be human.

She was the only thing I had in my life, along with the Briefs Family. When Malia was never home, they would take me in to look after little Bra or train with Vegeta.

Everyone was happy here on earth until the tournament of power took place. Everyone was worried our universe could lose. Knowing Malia had to participate to protect our world, I tried to make her stay because I was worried about her but of course, she went anyway.

I waited until Malia finally returned. She was injured but I was just happy she was alive.

After the tournament, everything was at peace again. Malia got married and started a family of her own. She even brought my own home in the mountains near West City. Everything was going well for us… or at least. That's what I always thought until…

Malia stopped visiting me. Of course I tried calling her home residents but Shin was the only one who kept answering the phone.

A few months went by and I still haven't heard from my sister until a few weeks ago, I got a call from Bulma. To tell you the truth, that might have been the most heartbreaking phone call I've ever had with anyone.

When I found out my sister had passed away, my heart dropped. I couldn't stop crying for weeks after I heard that my sister had died.

Ever since then I couldn't leave my own home because of my grief.

A few years went by and I've gotten better, thanks to Shin. Even when I moved out of Malia's home, he'd always have time to visit or hang out when Malia would go train with Vegeta and Goku.

When she died, he grieved but that didn't stop him from raising my two nieces and nephew or helping me cope with my grief.

Of course, everyone was beginning to cope well after the battle with Fu and his stupid evil game of destruction upon the cosmos. I mean, he was Dabura's creation after all.

Everyone was starting to move on with their lives and everything was going back to normal… until that night. Every peace we had would be taken away in one night.

Present Day - Night 10pm

"Aah!" I bolted up right, frightened but when I looked at the time and saw it was 4 am, I sighed.

"Gosh… that dream… was crazy."

I got out of bed and headed for the bathroom to cool off. While washing my face, my mind then began to think back on my dream. Even though it was just a dream, it felt real.

My thoughts about the dream were then disrupted by the sound of a phone ringing.

"Huh… Who's calling at this time of the night?" I wondered. As I got done drying my face, I walked to my bedroom and picked the phone up.

Me : "Hello…"

???: "Maliza, are you there?"

Hearing Trunks's voice through the phone, it worried me. He sounded like he was panicking.

Me: "Trunks, is that you?"

Trunks: "Listen to me, you have to get outta there!"

Me: "What are you talking about? What's going on?"

Trunks: "I don't have time to explain. You have to get out of the house right now!"

"Alright, let m-Aahh!?" Suddenly, something big crashes through the ceiling of the bedroom, causing me to fall over.

The creature that crashed through the ceiling was covered in shadows. Similar to what I saw in my dream. I was horrified by how its black, empty eyes stared at me as it was about to throw its axe at me.

I got up and started running for the front door. The creature chased after me but I managed to lock it from the inside with the keys I had taken from my pocket.

My house was on the mountain side near West City, so I was able to see the city from afar. When I looked, I could see that there were clouds of smoke coming from the city. And the city lights were going off.

"Are they… scared of the light?" I thought.

It didn't take a while for me to finally notice that my hands were glowing brighter then it was in the dream. Hearing the noise of people screaming and cars crashing as I rode my bike down to West City, it scared me to my core.

The lights are off in the city and the sun isn't coming up. The worst part is that these dark shadow monsters are roaming the streets and people are using flashlights or car beams to burn the shadows away.

As I'm riding past the dark shadows and through the dark alleys, a dark cloudy mist starts forming in the sky. "Ugh! What the!? Argh!" Suddenly I started to feel my head pain as the darkness surrounding me began to burrow its way into my head.

"Stop… please… Stop… it hurts! It hurts! Stop it! I said… Stop It!"

The darkness inside me was then pushed out, causing the shadows around me to burn away.

"Maliza… Maliza…" That voice I heard. I remembered that voice. From the nightmare I had earlier.

"My… my god, that was... terrifying."

The people that were around me were becoming possessed by the dark mist in the sky. I had no time to stand around and get my butt kicked by possessed people, I had to get to Capsule Corp as soon as I could.

As I'm sneaking through the possessed hosts, I find the front entrance of Capsule Corp but is blocked by damaged cars.

Lucky for me, the wall had been wrecked by a delivery truck. When I looked back at my surroundings, I could see the people beginning to cry out and moan as the black mist around them began to make them go insane. Most who were unlucky died instantly from getting infected, some started killing other survivors. "There's … there's nothing left…"

I climbed over the wreckage, and looked for the main entrance but suddenly the ground beneath me began to shake.

I looked back and saw the mist getting thicker and spreading fast. I rushed to the entrance and closed the glass door behind me. I started walking around the hallways of Capsule Corp, looking for Bulma or anyone else that might have been there but sadly, I found nothing.

"Maybe the darkness got to them…" I thought.

Suddenly, someone out of nowhere touches my shoulder. "Maliza!"

"Aaahh!"

"Woah, Maliza! Easy, it's me. It's just me."

I scolded, "Trunks! Don't do that! You could've given me a heart attack!"

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I just didn't know it was really you… And besides, those things out there… they're everywhere."

What Trunks said reminded me of the dream I had. That Entity and what it does to someone if it got inside a person's head.

I sighed, "I know…"

"But the good thing is… I think I've figured out how to-"

"They're scared of the light." What I said cut Trunks off.

He then asked, "Huh?... Wait, how did you know?"

"A shadow monster attacked my house. If my lights weren't on it would have killed me."

Suddenly the walls around us began to shake. The dark shadows outside were now trying to break in.

"Maliza, c'mon. We have to go!"

Knowing that it was no longer safe in the hallways, we both decided to stay in Bulma's lab. Trunks begins setting up the time machine, the voice I heard earlier starts whispering again.

"The darkness… is coming… you have… to leave…"

My hands started glowing, warning me that the Dark Entity was now inside and looking for us.

"Maliza… Maliza!" It didn't take long for me to realise that Trunks was already done setting the machine up.

He asked, "Are you okay?" But just as I was about to answer, something started banging on the door like a wild animal which made me shriek.

"Quick, get inside."

As I got up the ladder and sat down onto the chair, the glass hatch then closed when the door suddenly burst open and the lights went out. Leaving Trunks in the dark with only a flashlight.

"Trunks!! Trunks!" I called out but he couldn't hear me, since the glass around me was soundproof.

"Damn it. The lights went out." When Trunks turns the flashlight on, a loud scream from out of nowhere scares him, causing him to drop it on the ground.

"Wha- what the hell was that!?" He picks it up but then a loud thud can be heard from the entrance. Trunks points the light at the door and is shocked to see his own mom who was looking down at her feet standing right in front of him.

"M-mom?... Is that… you?" Trunks seemed confused to what he was seeing but when my hands started glowing, I knew that wasn't Bulma anymore.

I start banging on the glass, and Trunks points the flashlight at me. "Trunks, that's not her!! It's-"

Trunks points his flashlight at Bulma again but now she looks at him with her eyes all black and empty. She points at him and then the shadow mist behind her then closes in. The last thing I saw was Trunks dropping the flashlight and placing his hands on his head as if he was in pain. At that moment, the mist surrounds the time machine.

I looked at the monitors and saw a launch button. When a dark shadow suddenly pops out of nowhere on the glass, I immediately push the button and the time machine activates.

I could feel the machine's thrusters underneath me beginning to work. As the time machine burst out of the lab through the ceilings of Capsule Corp and into the sky, the next thing I saw was me travelling through time and space.

It was almost like a dream. But then I heard a thud from underneath the time machine. I looked at the side and saw Trunks hanging on one of the thrusters. My hands immediately started glowing at this point. When I saw those black eyes, that's when I knew… he wasn't Trunks anymore. The Entity had taken over him. Suddenly the machine began to shake. I looked at the monitors and saw the message 'Major Malfunction' on the screen.

Smoke then started to fill my surroundings as the emergency sirens went off.

When I pressed the emergency button, the time machine then opened up. I was about to jump until Trunks grabbed my arm, pulling me back.

"Ugh! I'm sorry Trunks!"

Knowing that the machine was gonna blow up any second, I slapped Trunks, which made him lose grip of my arm. When I pushed away from him, the time machine then exploded. At that moment, everything went black.

As I'm regaining consciousness from the explosion, I looked around and found myself in the middle of nowhere.

I looked behind me and saw the time machine completely destroyed and Trunks was nowhere to be found.

"W-where am I?"

Chapter One: Birthday Night

A Few Hours Earlier...

"Malisha!... Malisha!"

Malisha's mind clears up when Shaina pokes her shoulder. "Did you hear what I just said?" When Shaina asked, she put her head down. Stressed out about what had happened.

Malisha sighs, "I'm such an idiot…"

"You're still thinking about Ava, aren't you?"

Frustrated, Malisha gets up and starts pacing up and down. "Well, obviously! I haven't spoken to Ava and I feel like I'm losing my mind."

"Just tell me what happened, Malisha."

When Shaina asks, Malisha stops pacing and sighs, "Me and Ava got stuck in the boiler room and after we got out, I was helping Ava put her shoes back on but… her mom, she yelled at me and told me to stay away from her."

Shaina then turns to her, "Wait a minute, you took her shoes off? Is there something going on between you two that I don't know about?"

"No… Well, not really. Of course, her mom just yelled at me but… the way she looked at me. It was almost as if… she was looking at me as if I was..." Malisha stops for a moment. "As If you were what?"

"As if I was a freak. I mean… I never asked to look like this. None of us did. Mom and Dad are the ones that wished for us. Everyday I'm with her it just feels different. Even though I've been crushing on boys and making friends here and there, I just… I never thought I'd feel this way about my best friend." Hearing Malisha expressing her emotions made Shaina let a small smile across her face.

When Malisha notices this, she looks at her confused on what her sister was smiling about. "What?"

"You care about her?"

Malisha's face slowly blushes when her sister says this. But knowing that she couldn't lie about her own feelings, Malisha sighs in defeat.

"Of course I do…" She admits.

"As a friend or something more?" Shaina asked but Malisha grunts. "No!... I just… really care about her. But not in that way… okay?"

"Malisha, you don't have to be ashamed of who you like…" Shaina tries to lighten up her sister's downer attitude but Malisha continues to deny her feelings towards Ava.

"I'm not ashamed of caring about Ava, okay? I just… I don't want to be judged only because I'm half supreme kai."

Shaina then states, "Well… Kai gets judged. Our neighbor that lives a few blocks from here gets judged. Even our parents got judged for having us. That's just how it is."

"Hey, now that you mentioned, where is Kai?"

Shaina gets up from the desk, "Who knows. Probably feeding on a dead pigeon or something. Or maybe just chilling on the rooftop."

When Shaina was about to leave the room, she asks, "Malisha… you do remember that it's Ava's birthday today, right? She's having a birthday party tonight."

"Oh stars! I forgot!" Malisha jumps up from the chair when Shaina closes the door behind her.

Even though the door was shut, Shaina could hear her little sister starting to complain, "I can't believe you're reminding me only now and it's almost 6 PM!"

As Malisha looks in her drawers and takes out clothes here and there, her mind begins to look back on what happened between her and Ava.

The school bell rings and everyone leaves but Malisha gets a note from Ava, telling her to wait by the maple tree for her. Thinking that maybe Ava forgot something in class, she goes outside and waits by the tree near the school playground.

The maple tree was a spot where Malisha and Ava would sit and eat or sometimes a place when they needed to talk somewhere important.

She sits down on the bench and decides to read while she waits. A few minutes go by but no sign of Ava. Malisha looks at her phone as sees that it was almost half past 2, meaning it was almost time for the school to close.

"I wonder what's taking Ava so long… I guess I should go see if she's okay."

She puts her book back in her bag and goes to look for Ava. While walking through the hallways of the school, Malisha then gets a text message from her sister.

Shaina : "Are you okay at school? You know the school gate closes at 3pm right?"

Malisha : "I know… I think Ava got lost looking for something. I'm gonna go look for her and then I'll be home."

Shaina : "Alright, take care of yourself. And be careful."

When she puts her phone away, Malisha then comes across a dark stairs which leads to the boiler room under the gym. At first, she hesitates but thinking that Ava might be stuck or hurt, she goes down and looks for her.

"I'm gonna regret this if she's not here."

As Malisha walks in, she's unable to see anything since there was no light shining through the lower floor of the gym. When she takes out her phone and puts on her flash, something or someone then moves away when the light touches it.

"Ava?" When Malisha calls out her name, something then makes a thud sound behind her. A trash can is knocked over but there's no one there. She goes to look for what had knocked over the bin until…

"Eek!!"

Someone out of nowhere then pulls her into a room and shuts the door. "Ava? What are you-?"

"Shh!" Ava covers her mouth with both her hands when a dark shadow figure starts moving down the hallway.

Its deep and demonic voice echoes through the whole underground floor as it stomps past the room where Ava and Malisha were hiding.

When the dark shadow's footsteps finally fade, Ava removes her hands from Malisha's mouth.

She asks, "Ava… What was that? What's going on?"

"Hey, you have a flash on your phone too, right? We can get out of here." When Ava mentions the flash on her phone, Malisha takes it out but then looks at her friend with a worried look on her face, "Ava… my battery is only on 30 percent. Using my flashlight will drain it."

"Oh. Well, I guess I'll use my flash then." Ava takes out her phone and puts her flash on. While she tries to adjust her flashlight's brightness, Malisha stares at her with admiration.

"My gosh… She's so smart and… so cute. Wait, what!? No, why am I thinking about this? Ava's my friend."

She couldn't understand why she was feeling this way about Ava. Of course, Malisha had been crushing on boys here and there but never thought she'd fall for her best friend.

"Ava's just a friend, okay? Just a friend. Just a friend…"

"Malisha, are you okay? Your face is turning red…" When Ava points out Malisha's blushy cheeks, she looks away, trying to hide it.

"Ah! I'm sorry… I'm sorry. I'm… just feeling a little hot, that's all."

Ava turns her friend's face towards her own, only for their eyes to be met with each other.

"Malisha… What's wrong?" She asks but Malisha is hesitant to answer. When Ava places her hand on her forehead, Malisha's heart races. "Well, that's strange. Your forehead feels norm-"

"You're amazing…" Malisha mumbled.

"Huh? Did you say something, Malisha?"

She shakes her head, trying to snap out of bliss. "Uh… nothing. I think we should probably leave before the school locks us in here with… that thing."

When they both leave the room, they quickly go back up the ground floor and make it through the front gate of the school.

"Phew… thank gosh." Ava then sits down on the bench, trying to catch her breath. As Malisha rests her back against the wall, she then sees Ava taking off her shoes.

"Oww… I swear, I'm never wearing these shoes again." Ava softly groans as she rubs the sides of her foot.

Malisha sits down next to her and picks up one of her shoes, "What's your shoe size?"

Ava replies, "A size 3."

"Wait, seriously? Aren't these shoes a bit too small for you because this is a size 2.5?"

Ava then frowns, "Well, It's not my fault. My mom just… doesn't have the money to buy me bigger shoes, okay?"

Even though she tried brushing it off, Malisha could see that Ava was lying.

"You know, Ava… you can tell me anything."

When she tries to console her, Ava turns and looks at Malisha with a deep sadness in her eyes. "I wish… I wish it was easy… but… I can't…"

"Hey, it's okay if you don't want to talk about it. I mean… If you want to talk, I'm always here to listen."

Malisha couldn't bear to see her close friend hurt. At this point, all she wanted to do right now is make Ava smile.

"Ava…"

"Yes?"

Not knowing what to say, Malisha sighs, "Are you gonna put these back on?"

Ava chuckles and lifts her foot up, "Yeah but… You can do the honors because well… you care too much."

Malisha kneels down in front of her and puts on her shoes. "Heh… you know, despite what just happened… I kinda wish for a bigger adventure than that light vs darkness stuff."

Ava smiles, "Me too."

But of course, their happy moment was cut short when a car parked in front of the school. A woman then comes out and walks over to them.

"Ava! What are you doing?"

"Oh uh… Mom, I was just…" Hearing the nervousness and sudden panic in Ava's voice was enough to spike Malisha's suspicion.

"I thought I told you not to talk to this girl…"

"But Mom, she was just… she was just helping me-"

"Get in the car, now. Get in the car. Now!"

Ava quickly takes her bag and walks away, leaving Malisha surprised, yet confused.

"Okay, was that… really necessary?" Malisha asked. Ava's mom then turns to her with a devilish look in her eyes. "Who are you to tell me how to raise my kid?"

"Okay, first of all. I was just helping her put her sh-"

"Stay away from my daughter!"

Malisha was left speechless when Ava's mom gave her the death stare before walking back to the car. When she notices one of Ava's shoes, she calls out. "Hey wait! You forgot… your shoe…"

Of course, they drove off. Leaving Malisha confused about what just happened.

End of Flashback

Malisha grunts, "You know what, I'm not gonna let some middle aged mom ruin our friendship only because I'm not human and I don't care what she says or thinks. I'm going."

Malisha takes out and puts on denim jeans and a black top with a skull on it. When finished getting ready, she takes the shoe Ava forgot about.

"I'm not gonna let anyone come between us only because of our differences. You deserve to be happy Ava. More than I do."

When Malisha comes out of her room, Shaina who is standing by her room door becomes surprised when she sees her little sister looking almost rebellious.

"What are you, a kai or a model?"

"You know sis, not all 13 year olds dress up, looking like a fairytale princess, okay? And besides, what is wrong with my outfit?" Malisha then shows off every detail of her outfit.

"I never thought you were more into fashion than books…"

"Look, say whatever you want about my style, okay? Right now I have to go." When Malisha walks past Shaina, she then notices Ava's shoe in her hand.

Shaina then asked, "Hey, what's with the shoe?"

Malisha replies, "It's Ava's shoe. She forgot it. If I'm forbidden to see Ava, then at least I get to give this back to her."

"Don't come home late, okay!?"

"You don't have to remind me, I already know!"

When Kai walks in, he notices his sister all dressed up. "Hey, Kai." Malisha says as she walks past him and out the front door.

As she walks down the street, Malisha begins to think back on what had happened that day. When she freaked out and yelled at her friend. Suddenly, strange dark clouds in the sky caught her attention.

"Woah… clouds? That's weird, I could've sworn that the weather report said that there was gonna be a clear night sky. *Sigh* Oh well… Not gonna let that stop me."

Malisha

Before I tell my story, I think I should introduce myself to you guys first. My name is Malisha, I'm half supreme kai. Even though I look almost human, I still have some parts on me that make me look more different than normal. But for now, let's continue onward.

While I was walking, I could hear the sound of music playing from a few blocks further from me. I followed the blasting music only to find it coming from a big mansion that was filled with people.

"Don't tell me this is where Ava lives."

Even though I doubted that Ava's family were rich people, I never thought that their lifestyle was like this. Matter a fact, they're not just rich, they're millionaires.

As I knocked on the door, I could feel my nervousness beginning to slip in. When the door opened, I was greeted by a woman who was holding a wine glass in her.

"Oh, hey kid. You must be one of Ava's friends. Just in time, come on in."

I walked in and saw it was a big party. But I didn't want to have fun just yet. I needed to find Ava first. As I'm walking through people left and right, my nervousness soon starts growing. Thinking that Ava's mom might catch me before I could even see her.

"Malisha?"

Suddenly I heard a voice from behind me. I wanted to turn around but then suddenly I was pulled away from the party and into the yard where the pool was.

"Malisha, what are you doing here?"

My nervousness melted away when the sound of Ava's sweet voice filled my ears.

I then asked, "I almost forgot… it's your birthday tonight, right?"

Ava frowns, "Well, yes! If my mom catches you, she mi-"

"I know!... I know… but honestly, I don't care." I cut her off and showed her the shoe I brought with me.

"My… my shoe?" Ava looked surprised when she saw the shoe in my hand.

I sighed, "I know I look stupid right now but… I can't help it… and you… sorta left this at school the day your mom threatened me to stay away from you… so I thought… at least… let me have one fun night partying with you?"

I expected Ava to yell at me at this point but then I heard a snicker. Ava started giggling, "You dummy… Of course I want to have a fun night with you. And besides, it is my 13th birthday party after all."

She then sits down on the chair and takes off her left shoe. "Well, go on. Put it on and see if it fits." Ava smiles when she lifts her foot up.

"Heh… now she's Cinderella."

I kneeled down and took her foot, "I hate to admit it but… this is actually kinda cute." I thought.

When I put her left shoe on, I sighed, "Well, dear Princess. It fits."

Ava then puts her foot down and stands up, "So… wanna dance or do you wanna do karaoke?" She asked. "I don't dance but I like singing karaoke." I replied.

A Few Minutes Later...

Me and Ava, we did have fun and of course sang some karaoke. Even though I expected it to be my one last night with my best friend, I didn't really expect it to be a fun night.

After drinking some cranberry juice, Ava then takes my arm, "Come on, there's something I wanna show you." She whispered and pulled me outside. As we sat by the poolside, Ava smiled shyly, "Malisha…"

"Yes… What's wrong Ava?" I asked.

"Remember when you said that… I could tell you anything?"

Of course I remembered, I mean… how can I forget? Ava is my best friend, I'd do anything for her to be happy. "Is… there something you wanna tell me, Ava?"

At first, Ava seemed hesitant but then she takes an empty plastic cup and uses it to take water from the pool. At first I thought she was gonna drink it or something, I mean since when do people drink pool water?

But what she did left me speechless. When Ava placed her hand over the cup and flipped it upside down, she removed and revealed the water was now moving on its own.

"I… actually wanted to tell you at school but… since this is the last time we might ever see each other, I wanted to at least show you what I could do." Ava's face looked calm but in her eyes, I could see she was nervous.

She puts the cup down and puts her hands together like a bowl, making the water that was floating in her hands start to move around us.

I asked, "My gosh… this is... amazing, Ava. Where did you learn how to do this?"

Suddenly, her face saddens. "Hey, is something wrong? A-"

"I'm leaving the country. My mom is taking me overseas tomorrow." A tear falls from her pink cheeks. Hearing her say that she's moving overseas and seeing her like this was the last thing I wanted.

"Do you want to leave?" I asked and she shook her head in response. Of course she doesn't, I mean… Why would she?

Ava told me she grew up in West City, why would she wanna leave the only place she called home?

"Is there a reason why you and your mom are leaving?"

Ava then frowned, "Well…"

As Ava was getting juice from the fridge, she hears her mom and dad talking about something upstairs.

When she goes up to eavesdrop on the conversation, she sees her mom and dad standing in front of each other.

"Agatha, please. It's our daughter's birthday. Can we not talk about this now?"

"Or what? You gonna hit me? Oh wait, that's right. You can't. I mean, of course, you would never do that to your wife… or to that dead wh*ore you messed around with…"

"Don't!... You dare talk about Jennie like that!"

The conversation between the two was beginning to get too personal.

"What? She's dead. You don't have to defend her. And besides, high school was a long time ago."

When Agatha walks to the desk and picks up her phone, Ava's dad fumes, "You… are so damn evil."

Agatha then smirks in amusement, "Hmph, and I'm a rich, beautiful woman, so it doesn't matter."

Ava couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"Well, consider it official. I'm talking our… well, my daughter to Vegas tomorrow, once this stupid party is done with."

Ava's father then grunts in anger, "Seriously, why do you even want to take her to Vegas? This is her home, why take her away from it?"

"Well, because she's mine. And well, she doesn't have a choice. She must either leave with her rich mother or rot in this dumb city with her broke, dumfounded father."

"You know what, consider the divorce official then. You know, you used to be a caring, loving wife… but now… you're just a damn witch who cares about nothing but herself."

"Of course, what kind of mother doesn't? You know, Leo… if you didn't get the promotion, then we wouldn't have owned the whole family business right now."

"So that's it, it was all about the money?"

"Tch, what else wouldn't it be about? Love? Ugh, don't even think about it. That lovey, dovey crap just makes me wanna vomit."

...----------------...

After hearing Ava explain what happened between her mom and dad, It left me disgusted. "I can't believe she did that? I never thought your mom was that much of a gold digger."

"I never thought about it either until I heard my parents were getting a divorce. And on top of all of that, she insulted my dad. My dad is a good man, all he ever did was work hard for our family. Unlike her. All she ever cared about was being rich and buying expensive dresses that cost almost our life expenses." Ava looked frustrated about the whole situation between her mom and dad. Of course she is, finding out that her mom is an awful person was really hard for her to believe because obviously, she's still her mom.

Ava then sighed, "Mom never supported me or my family… She never let me have or make friends with anyone. Mom always says they are nothing but a bad influence towards me."

To be honest, I also thought this… Why Ava didn't have any friends other than me or her classmate friends back at school. I guess it makes sense now why she couldn't talk to anyone outside the school, all because of her selfish mom.

"I guess it's because she's jealous of you."

"Jealous…? You… really think so?..." Her face became confused from what I addressed.

I didn't want to be the one to judge someone else's personal issues but judging by what Ava told me about her parents, I just couldn't stand it. "I mean… you're the only person that has friends and a father that loves and supports you. Maybe she can't stand the fact that you're the center of attention."

Ava then frowns, "Or because of the fact that I have powers and she obviously doesn't want my dad in my life because my dad is the only person that actually cares about me."

I could hear the anger in her voice when she said this. Seeing her upset, I didn't want to see this. The only thing I wanted was a smile on her face. "I care…"

When Ava turned to me, I held her hand tightly. "You… care about me?..." She asked.

"Sure I do… more than anything else..."

At this point, I couldn't keep my emotions in… the only thing I could do was stay by her side. The fact that she was leaving and might never come back, I could bear it. But what Ava said next made me stop thinking about that fact…

"You know… I'm happy… happy to have you here with me." Seeing a warm smile finally cross her face made me happy. Even though this is our last night together… this might be by far the best night ever.
