The complete port was crowded, boxes passing everywhere, people from the most distinguished leaving the ships, boats from the most common to the most exotic that depended on magic or technology. The first time in history, where so many nations met in one place. In the midst of all the chaos of people, in front of a huge ship, the guards opened a corridor. The vessel was huge and luxurious, alternating between green and gold. A huge staircase began to form, step by step. From the top of the ship, three large birds flew, the feathers in neon tones that were never seen in animals. The strong aroma of the sea began to disappear with time, and in place a citrus aroma took over.
“We announce the arrival of the Thirteenth Princess of Telfy, Princess Rory D'Rostal.” The deep voice was heard throughout the harbour.
At the top of the stairs was a woman, the shoe completely black, the only detail was in silver, where a flower seemed to be involved in the jump. The princess wore a short dress in a dark green hue. The skirt reached just below the knee, it was made by several layers of fabric, bringing lightness and movement to the piece. The boot was fair and covered almost the entire lap, only in the middle a small space was open.
The brown and wavy threads descended a few centimetres below the shoulder. His face with a very sharp chin, small nose, red and full lips, but not too big. The eyes in a dark brown tone, with the edges slightly accentuated. His expression showed power, it was like a huge warning of danger. On top of his head a golden crown, three different flowers adorned the crown.
In the first step of the princess, the bar of the dress began to become black. With each step of it the black rose until reaching the middle of the dress and form a gradient with green, at that time black lines rose in the dress, outlining the clothes on the body of the princess. At that time, almost everyone in the port was looking at that great arrival.
She looked forward and watched at the end of the corridor, opened by the guards, three people. Her fists closed tightly, but she continued on. The two men kept their faces straight and their postures straight, while the woman had a friendly smile on her face.
“The King of Telfy informed us that there would be a large entrance on the part of the Tenth…”
“Princess Rory.” corrected the man. “My father did not participate in the preparations of the trip and even if he had participated, he would not be wrong. That wasn’t a big entrance.” She looked at the woman talking and directed her gaze at the two men. “ Send the schedule of events to my assistant, he will inform in which events I will be present and will pass the necessary recommendations.” The princess’s tone was impatient, finding it unnecessary to have to speak, which to her was obvious. “ Board accommodations are not required, as stated before, a hotel room has already been booked. Just contact me at official times.” The fake smile on Rory’s face was seen by everyone, and she made no point of hiding it.
“The princess has interesting demands… when we were informed of the change of representative, the Kings said there would be no change. The First Princess had a good reception with the ideals of the Kiori Council.“ The man on the right took a step forward, the princess did not direct a look at him. His voice showed total discontent with the woman in front of him.
“My sister’s standards are lower than mine, she’ll take anything.” The princess slowly turned her face towards the man, the blonde had a boring appearance in her vision. “Ah! And if you are so interested in my sister, I recommend that you seek information on the reason that my sister was replaced. Or the next one with a replacement will be you.”
She made no point of maintaining education with those three people, when the change of Kiori’s representative was announced, Rory made it clear that she would not accept anything from the board. Transportation, stay and food, everything would be arranged by your advisor.
They continued the way to the hotel that they would be staying, the way was a little far, but Rory did not care. Her expression remained the same from beginning to end. She didn’t even know how many protocols she had broken any more, it wasn’t her problem. When I got back to Telfy, I’d settle this with your parents.
“Princess, your parents plan to establish closer relations with the Kiori Council, your actions today may hinder their desire.” The counsellor had a low, hesitant voice. He knew that dealing with the princess with that temper was difficult.
“Rast… I didn’t come here to help my parents. If something like this were to happen, my first sister would be here, or any of the others.” She let out a long sigh and looked at the counsellor’s face, the tip of his nose was a blue shade and moved in a few moments. “ After we get to the hotel, let them know all the guards are clear and so are you.”
Rory took the penthouse of the hotel, left the bags near the bed, she just opened one to change her clothes for something more comfortable. He removed the crown from his head, and it fell apart on a long liquid silver wire until it condensed back into a smooth bracelet.
Rory had no intention of staying at the hotel, walked slowly through the streets of downtown Kiori, she looked at the map twice before leaving, in a short time she would be in the central square. The streets were quiet and the only noise you could hear was the sound of tennis against the asphalt. It was still daylight, but few people walked the streets.
“Sorry, miss.” Rory didn’t have time to react when he felt his arm being held and pulled down.
She looked to the side, seeing a man, who had probably stumbled and leaned on her. He had a gentle smile on his face and wore simple clothes. He put his hand in his coat pocket and handed a pamphlet to the princess.
“A welcome note for the young lady.”
Rory made a face when the man left, she imagined it was one of the ridiculous ads about the big festival of the night, the same to which she was going. Rory looked at the paper with total disinterest at first, but soon his expression became curious.
“Get rid of the council charlatans, this is the real party.” Under the address “The Four Deaths”.
“A creative name for a bar…, or whatever that thing is.” She kept the pamphlet in her pants pocket and continued on her original path, before anything else she needed to find out what it was like that funeral they called the festival.
At the entrance of the festival, a huge poster stood out. The common blonde was stamped in a ridiculous heroic pose, “Counsellor Decor and his partner change the course of magic “''At the time of technology arrived”.
“Pathetic.” She let out a muffled laugh and continued on her way.
Everyone there wore flashy clothes, looked like a huge architecture project, and Rory wondered how some of them could walk. Those things were not bad, but they were not good. As she walked, the smell of sea mixed with alcohol became strong.
“The pirate fish dared to show his face in Kiori.” An unknown voice screamed in the middle of the people, Rory turned his face, knowing who the smell of alcohol was.
“The board has agreed to suspend my charges during this time, and a good pirate never turns down a good party.” A man with visible scales was leaning on a set of boxes, in his hand a huge mug with what should be alcohol, his ears different from human, hair in a brown tone and a seductive smile on his lips. “ Besides that the High Royal Magic is present, I could not miss this opportunity. They say this is the first time since Telfy has been confirmed that they appear in public.” The black eyes turned to Rory, and he bowed to the princess.
“You and your captain still owe me for stepping on Telfy. Take a shower, the smell of alcohol makes me nauseous. She grimaces and turns her face. “ Don’t cause any trouble here, Telfy’s a long way off for you to get shelter.”
“You should take your own advice, Princess. Word of your threatening Counsellor Decor is already circulating. Of course, I thought it was great news. Captain Kaleena and I bet how long it would take you to threaten any of them, and I obviously won.” Hui spoke as if he was always flirting with someone, sloppy clothes and messy hair were the perfect combo to attract people without the knowledge of the pirate’s fame.
Rory noticed the amount of people around the fish man increasing, pirates were always a good source of information.
“Get out.” His harsh voice caused everyone around the pirate to walk away.
“Does the smell of alcohol make me nauseous? Became a joker after these months?” he offered the mug to the woman. “It’s true, the princess has to give a good image to the foreigners… but I believe you started out a little wrong”
“Wipe that stupid grin off your face.” The woman took out the pamphlet she got earlier. “ Find out where it comes from, by text they are not very friendly to the council.”
“She hasn’t even arrived and already wants to discover the enemies of the local government. Hurry!” He took the paper and looked at the ad. “So much colour, that chaos… Dev!”
The crew Hui was part of had a very practical way of organizing, a name and a function. They just needed to scream, that everything would start to flow. Rory didn’t even know if that was really their name or the role they carried within the crew, she didn’t have any interest in knowing either.
“You’re less despicable when you’re useful, Hui.”
The brown put his hand on his chest as if touched by the sweet words of the princess, moved away from the boxes and left the mug on them. Hui leaned over to Rory’s face, approached her ear and whispered.
“We know I’m the princess’s favourite.”
“When you have twice the chest… maybe.” She put her finger on the man’s chest and pushed him away.
Hours passed, and the night began to fall. The festival, which was already with numerous people, was completely full. The diversity of people only increased, all the guests were there. They went to the same destination, the centre of the festival. Obviously, the official opening of the big festival would be the focus.
If there’s one thing that everyone knows is that trying to go through the opposite flow is the worst thing you can do, at that moment that’s what Rory was trying to do. In fact, she was succeeding. Some people gave way. While the others, the Princess, pushed to the side.
Outside the big conglomerate of people it was quieter, she could walk without bumping into 5 people all the time. His way was towards where he had met Hui for the first time, the way he knew the pirate he was too lazy to change places. Even more so with the number of guests increasing every second.
The man fish was in the same place, but was accompanied by a tall woman. A very well-known and feared woman.
“I was wondering when the most feared woman of the seas would show up, it was obvious that he would not come without her permission.” The Princess approached the two, she could hear the redhead laughing down.
“Hui told me he wanted information about it.” The woman’s voice was velvety and quiet. She propped her elbow on a box and raised her hand, two of her fingers holding the pamphlet that Rory had handed to Hui. “I didn’t mean to pry, but I remembered that there was a little accident on your arrival. So I thought I’d check.”
“It was just advice, the people of Kiori do not know how to appreciate kindness any more.” She rolled her eyes and her arms crossed in front of her body. “And one has no relation to the other.”
“Her temper only worsens with time.” The Captain looked at the paper and let out a long sigh before she began to speak. “It is a clandestine party and a nightclub in the suburbs, the owner participates in advertisements against the Council. Well, all the suburbs are against the Council. And on your sweet advice, if they see you at this club, they’ll charge you with conspiracy.”
“The local police recommend staying away from that region, they have no control over what happens there. From what I’ve heard, it’s to the north, but nobody knows exactly how to get there.” Hui walked away from his Captain and was only a few steps away from the Princess. He did not want the conversation to follow the Captain’s lead. “If you go there, take some guards, no one knows what’s in there. People in the suburbs don’t come to the city, and people in the city don’t go there.”
The princess took the paper from the captain’s hand and spent a few seconds staring at the announcement.
“The official opening of the Festival is about to begin, I’m going after this Four Deaths. Captain Kaleena, don’t waste your energy on unimportant matters.” She waved to the two, didn’t want anyone to accompany her, and knew that if it took longer the two would go together.
The princess of Telfy was proud, among normal people and creatures there was not one that could be a real threat. The local police only showed incompetence, the council spent so much energy invading land that could not even take care of the nation itself.
“Pathetic, as useless as my sisters.”
Outside the big festival, the streets were very busy and bright, most people seemed to be going to the festival. She did not spend much time paying attention to those people, her focus soon returned to the path she was taking. He would follow north of town until he found something that looked like a suburb, or would look for someone to ask for information.
For a few seconds the doubt passed through her mind, a city where she knew nothing and was going to a place where not even the people there knew. She thought about the discussions with her sisters and the first time the Kiori workers invaded her land. The tip of his fingers became cold and the iron on the bracelet began to heat up.
“If you’ll excuse me…”
Rory’s pupils shrank and eyes widened, the bracelet turned into a small dagger and the blade was made of ice. The dagger was pointed at the neck of the person approaching her. A murderous intent dominated the princess’s gaze.
The man did not seem to know what to say, his body froze, and the mind was completely white. He raised both hands as if trying to show that he was not a threat.
“I just wanted to… let you know that the festival is the other way.” Rory pulled away the dagger a little, noticing the trembling voice. “You seem to be a tourist… the north of the city is not recommended.” His fists closed, and he took a few steps back.
Rory stared at him for a few seconds, she slightly stirred the dagger, but hasn’t lowered it yet. He didn’t seem to have much strength, his body was very thin. The clothes were simple, the shoulder-length hair was messy, it looked like it was coming back from work. Besides the completely pale skin, the Princess wondered if he was really well.
By the words he seemed to know that for that region were the suburbs, Rory smiled sideways. Asking any guide or guard in the area was not a good idea. As Kaleena had said, she threatened one of the Councillors as soon as she arrived. Rory took a few steps forward and said in a calm voice.
“I have no interest in the festival, take me to the suburbs.” The woman took her smile off her lips. “If you’re really interested in helping a tourist, take me to the suburbs.” It was clear that she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
The man was a few seconds in shock, probably the first time he saw a situation like that. His mouth opened and closed, thinking exactly what he would say next. The dagger was still in the woman’s hand, so he was afraid to contradict her and end up being newspaper headlines the next day.
“The suburbs are not a good place at this time.” The voice was still a little shaky.
“I don’t care, take me there.” She closed her eyes and let out a long sigh, raised her head and bit her lower lip hard. “Look, you take me to the suburbs and everybody’s happy, just drop me off somewhere nearby.” Though she left no loopholes for a no, her voice became friendlier. Making order more like sweet advice.
Rory’s annoying personality became more malleable when she was at times when she didn’t need to be Princess Rory. Not that she became cool, the princess herself did not consider herself a nice person, just became more bearable.
She saw the man’s hesitant gaze and lowered her hand away. It was a way to show that she wouldn’t hurt him, because Rory wouldn’t apologize.
“Right.” The man’s voice sounded firmer.
He seemed more confident without something sharp against his throat, his eyes searching for the dagger in the woman’s hand, but he found nothing. Her eyes widened, she had just lowered the gun. All he could see was a silver bracelet, but the dagger seemed to have completely disappeared.
“The main entrances are closed by the guard, you will have to enter through the secondary entrances. No one is allowed in or out of there.”
Neither of them spoke anything, Rory was used to making her trips in silence. In reality the trips were very busy, but the subject was never with her, so she learned to keep silent. Over time, it has become a custom, she almost never speaks while walking or in a vehicle.
And the man, well, he was afraid to say something that could be seen badly. Just by talking to that woman, he had already had a dagger in his neck and was being a guide to the suburbs. This was not the quiet walk home he had planned.
The more they walked, the lighting became less present and the streets narrower. Rory kept her eyes peeled for every street she changed, listening to every close move. Trusting a stranger was not something she would do.
“Those walls divide the suburbs of the city. There are some holes with stairs there.” He stopped walking and pointed at the huge wall a few meters away.
“You can go.” She didn’t need him in there, after all, he didn’t look like a person she knew inside. In fact, Rory thought he would faint at any moment.
She didn’t look back and just went her way. Looking sideways she found some people coming in and out of the walls, she approached slowly. His guard remained high all the way.
The hole in the wall was not very large, two people could pass at the same time, and the stairs seemed to be quite unreliable.
The stairs creaked with each step of the woman, drawings and splashes of paint went from the walls to the steps of the stairs. Rory looked down at the city a few feet away. The environment was surrounded by orange and green lights, Rory rested his hands on the worn railing and looked carefully at the environment.
"Despite the smell…" She grimaced. "It's nicer than there."
The region was different, messier than the city, neon was present everywhere. Graffitied walls, hair in the most diverse shades, clothes in an absurd mix of colors. It was a huge burst of information, but it wasn't unpleasant. In fact Rory thought she was much nicer than Kiori.
The crowd began to move, a little boy running through the crowd. He jumped up and yelled in the middle of everyone.
"The Dockz are coming!"
At that moment the light of the entire city went out, Rory frowned. He expected to hear screams of fear, or people telling everyone to run, but everything that happened was just the opposite. Everyone was excited, told to look up, she could see the shadow of pointing hands. From afar, she could see points of light in the sky, along with the sound of music getting louder and louder.
The lights came on, but only a few, the lighting was purple making the neon stand out. Rory looked down at her own wrist to check the bracelet, but her expression became even more confused. There was a green handprint there. She ran her hand around, trying to remember where it had come from.
"What…" Before she could think of something else, she felt someone grab her by the waist and pull her up.
The princess's eyes widened, the bracelet turned into a rope and wrapped around the neck of the person holding it.
She looked down and noticed that she was several feet off the ground, her feet on a piece of metal. She lifted her face and looked at the person holding her, it was a woman.
"Hey, hey. Take easy. We're a few, several, feet off the ground." The woman smiled, the wind blowing against the long black strands. "Just enjoy the welcome from the suburbs! At the end of this wonderful tour we'll be in the Four Deaths" Her tone was amused, and the damn smile didn't seem to leave her lips.
"People in this damned town have the unfortunate habit of touching others without permission." Rory pulled the rope. "Let me go and then take me to the Four Deaths." His words sounded like orders.
"Our methods are not the best!" She paused for some doing, making an exaggerated and thoughtful face. "But I thought you already knew what to expect." The woman looked around and a pensive expression dissipated, in its place an awkward smile took over. "Well, if that's what you want, I'll grant our esteemed guest's request."
The woman released Rory off the metal platform, the rope gone from her neck causing a feeling of relief. She waited to hear screams from the other, but nothing came. She looked down only to see Rory sitting on top of what looked like a cloud.
"I don't need the useless tricks you guys use." She smiled and waved at the other, her gestures were calm and she kept her gaze on the other. "Come on, I don't have all day."
The woman looked speechless, she shook her head and said nothing. She focused her eyes on the sky in front of her and began to guide the princess to her desired location. Neither of them spoke during the ride, Rory didn't feel like talking to the people there.
"The Four Deaths" The woman pointed to a huge building, that was a huge explosion of colors. "Thanks for my kindness would be nice."
"As far as I remember I didn't ask to pick me up in a crowd of people." The cloud that Rory was sitting on went towards the ground and she came down. "Bringing me here was the bare minimum."
She looked at the people and noticed that most of them were people who had come from other nations. All had a handprint on their bodies, Rory turned to the dark-skinned woman and held up her scarred wrist.
"Don't worry princess... leave with water! We need to differentiate the tourists authorized to enter the party. From the curious ones."
"Like you guys have a lot to hide."
Rory looked at the two big men standing in front of the door, she walked towards them, the two didn't even move. Her expression turned ugly, no one was allowed to bar her entrance.
"Polt she's the little princess who threatened Decor in front of everyone."
"It was a friendly warning." She corrected the woman.
"I don't even want to imagine what your threats are like." The two men opened the door and Rory walked into the bar.
The sudden change in temperature made Rory stand still for a few seconds, in addition to the environment being extremely hot, it was completely dark. The only lights there were dim and colorful, the strong smell of booze and something sweet was the biggest hallmark of the place.
"Lindyz! My golden bird has returned with our esteemed guest!" A tall, thin man approached the two. "Liev came and he looks a bit in shock, go see him. I'm going to entertain our guest."
Lindyz smiled at Rory and walked away. The princess was starting to regret having gone there, those people just seemed to be crazy. She thought they might have something useful in all that chaos.
"The whole town has heard about your arrival, it seems Kiori's Council didn't make you very happy... although people say that Telfy intends to seal deals with the Council. Your sister was coming with a proposal, but she was replaced at the last minute."
"If you came to state the obvious I will withdraw." If it was to hear the same as the gossip or the idiot councilor himself, she would have stayed at that damn festival.
The man seemed to sense the woman's intent and took a step back.
"I, head of the suburbs, Lian. It is my great pleasure to welcome the Thirteenth Princess of Telfy." He bowed to the woman. "If your Highness is interested, I'd like to talk about a humble project... something that could jeopardize the production of Kiori's energy cores."
The princess opened a simple smile. She crossed her arms in front of her and moved a little closer to the man.
"Tomorrow one of my guards will meet at the entrance I entered through, give him a folder with all the information. Before leaving Kiori I'll give you an answer."
Rory was young, but he wasn't going to accept any proposal without first knowing the details. He was already risking enough going here. His hatred for the council was great, but he wouldn't let it get past his reason.
"Of course... we just have that the Princess might regret if she accepts the deal too late."
"I don't usually regret it."
The man smiled and raised an arm pointing in the direction of the bar.
"I hope you enjoy your evening, after all since you're here... why not have a little fun?"
Rory didn't speak anymore, she just headed towards the bar. The environment was practically empty. Most of the people there were employees. From the confusion outside, they would only release the entrance later.
She sat down on a bench and crossed her legs, looked at the menu on the counter. The names of the drinks were strange, she didn't know any there. It was better to stay in the water.
Her eyes roamed around the room, on the wall next to a huge drinks rack was a poster, People in this place really liked things over the top.
In the center of the poster two people were fighting, ink splatters randomly all over the paper, an extremely large and stretched font.
"Come watch the best championship in the suburbs. Foreigners are extremely welcome, registrations from the 9th."
On the 9th everyone would have returned to their nations. Only those who had scheduled meetings would stay.
"He's crazy if he thinks someone will stay just for that." She doubted people knew about that kind of competition.
"Looks like Lian was wrong, he thought you would accept the proposal in the first second." She heard Lindyz's voice and rolled her eyes.
"I'm not first in line, but I received the same education as my sisters. I will never accept a proposal without reading it."
The brunette placed a glass in front of the princess, Rory frowned and glared at Lindyz.
"Drink, it's the specialty of the house."
"I don't take drinks from strangers." She pushed the glass away from her and placed it in front of Lindyz.
The woman seemed not to care about the princess's comment. She just shrugged and drank what was in her glass.
Rory heard a loud sound coming from the entrance, turned her face and saw the doors being opened. A crowd of people began to enter. Most there didn't look like the typical diplomats she'd seen at the festival.
The atmosphere started to take on a shy party aura, people seemed afraid to really let loose. They had already gotten there, it was just a party.
