Jimin POV
"Jimin dear, could you run to the basement and find the recipe for me? I knew it's been a long time since I've made the dish, but I didn't think it's been long enough that I'd left it there. I can't seem to find it in here, though." Mom asks frustrated.
I just smile and nod, heading off downstairs. It's one of our few days off, and I wanted to spend it at home with my parents. Although, I think we're supposed to be having a small break here soon, within the next week or so. Reaching our basement, I look around to try and figure out where it could possibly be located. I don't even know what exactly I'm looking for, though, to be completely honest. What would she have kept the recipe in?
Spotting a few folders off in the corner of the room, I head in that direction. Though, when I get to the shelf that it's on, I frown. It's taller than I'd like it to be, which means I'll have to try getting on my tip toes to reach the folders. Reaching for the folders, I barely manage to grab a hold of them. I accidentally end up bringing the folders and a couple plastic bowls to the floor with me, making a loud sound as a result.
"Are you okay?!" I hear my mom call from the kitchen. I rub my head with a frown, having been hit in the head by one of the bowls.
"Yeah, I'm fine!" I yell back, leaning down to start collecting things back up.
I accidentally caused some papers to fall out of one of the folders. Though, when my eyes skim over the pages, I freeze.
Birth Name: Park Min Ji
Birthdate: December 18th
Siblings: Park Jimin
My eyes widen as I read the words on the official type of paper. Looking over it, I realize it's a birth
certificate. What the hell?
Sitting down on the floor, I pick up the other pages that fell out with this one. Reading through it, I feel confused, betrayed and sad. I have a younger sister that I never knew about? Why didn't I ever know about this? Why was I never told?
"Jimin! Did you find the recipe?" Mom calls, snapping me out of my thoughts.
Looking down at one of the other folders, I check inside to find exactly the recipe she's been searching for.
"Yeah! Give me a minute!" I call back. Standing up and ignoring the mess I've made, I'm still surprised over the paperwork I've found.
Taking a deep breath, I bring both the paperwork and the recipe with me as I head upstairs. Walking over to where she's still sat at the table, she smiles up at me once she sees me.
"Jimin? Everything okay, honey?" She asks with a frown as she takes the recipe from me. I don't answer, sitting down at the table across from her.
"Mom?" I ask, setting the papers down on the table in front of me.
"What have you found, Jimin?" She asks, still frowning as she leans over to get a better look. I put my hand down on the papers, though, before she can take them.
"Why didn't you ever tell me that I have a younger sister?" I question, finally finding it in myself to look up at her.
Her entire face falls at the question.
"Go put those papers away. That's not something to be discussed in this house any longer." She says, a serious tone in her voice as she stands from the table.
"No. Tell me why I've never known about this? And why she isn't here if she's your daughter?" I demand, a firmness in my voice that I've never taken with her before. She spins on her heel, glaring at me.
"Drop it, Park Jimin." She snaps, a cold glare in her eyes. Slamming my hand down on the table as I stand, I return the glare.
"Not until I know why I never knew about this and why she isn't around." I speak through gritted teeth, her refusal only making me want to know even more.
"It's not important. Go." She answers, turning back around.
"I'm not going anywhere, and I'm not dropping this until you answer me, damn it!" I yell, taking a tone with her, I've never taken before, also having never sworn at her before either.
She sighs, beginning to sniffle, suggesting that she's beginning to cry.
"If I tell you, will you drop it?" She asks softly. Sighing, I sit back down.
"Yes." I answer honestly. She sighs, grabbing ingredients for the meal.
"She was an accident. Your father and I got into a nasty argument one night while you were at a friend's house spending the night, and we both left the house. I wasn't in my right mind, and I spent the night with a random guy that I'd met at the bar I went to. We had exchanged numbers, and spent the night at a hotel together." She took a deep breath before continuing.
"I found out later on that I'd gotten pregnant with her. Since I refused to get an abortion, your father demanded that the man take her when she was born. It was one of the few ways to fix and move on from what I'd done, so I agreed. It lucked out for the man since his wife had just gotten pregnant just a week before myself.
It worked out even better for them, since I'd arrived at the hospital with her just minutes after she was going into labor. The baby that his wife was supposed to have died at birth, but since I'd gotten there with her and his wife had passed out after giving birth, they were able to switch things out without the wife knowing. The birth certificate you must've found was because your father hadn't been at the hospital when I gave birth to her, so they let me name her and whatnot.
It's not been brought up since I returned after giving her away. Legally, she had belonged to your father and I. The hospital didn't bother with the DNA test, and so it reads she's ours. Obviously, your father didn't want her though and so the other legal documents are from changing her over to the other family. Please don't bring this up with your father around, will you, Jimin? It's been hard enough never knowing what's happened to her at this point." Mom finishes with her explanation. I nod immediately.
"I'm sorry for upsetting you. I just wanted to understand why I never knew and why she wasn't around." I explain softly. She gives me a small smile.
"I understand. I would've been the same way if I'd been in your shoes. The only reason you didn't know is that you were too young to remember." She answers quietly. I nod, standing up.
"Is it okay if I keep these? Since you and Dad don't want anything to do with them?" I ask hopeful. She shrugs, nodding.
"Guys!" I call when I walk inside later that evening, finally getting back to the house that I live in with the boys. I know it's on the later side of the evening, but I need their help.
"Jimin, quiet down. Some of them have already gone to bed. You know how Jin gets if he doesn't get enough sleep." Namjoon scolds me before yawning himself.
"I know, but I need help. I need to talk to all of you about something. It's important." I explain to him with a frown. He sighs, but pushes himself up off the couch anyway.
"Alright. You go get Kookie. I'll get Jin and Hobi. Tae? Could you get Yoongi Hyung, please?" He tells us.
We split off, and five minutes later return with a groggy Jin Hyung and Jungkookie, as well as a now awake Hobi and a very grumpy Yoongi Hyung.
"This better be good, Park Jimin." He snaps, rubbing his eyes. I frown slightly, feeling bad. I know he only sleeps in short bursts, so I know how unhappy he must be to have been woken up.
"I'm sorry, hyung. It's just... I found out I have a younger sister." I explain with a sigh, not knowing how else to break the news.
All of them wake right up at my words, looking at me with wide eyes.
"What do you mean?" Jin asks carefully, looking at me warily.
"I was trying to find a recipe for my mom earlier and accidentally knocked extra folders down from the shelf. Some papers had fallen out, those papers being these." I elaborate, tossing the papers down on the coffee table.
Yoongi's quick to take them first, slowly scanning over them and Jin and Hobi look over his shoulder to see.
"I feel bad because she's legally originally my parent's daughter. My mom said it's hard on her because she's never gotten to know what's happened to her since my father didn't want her and didn't want my mother having contact with the family. But I always want to know my sister and have her back too. I just don't know what to do." I inform them briefly, biting my lip as I sigh.
"It's an interesting situation, Jimin. I mean, legally, she's also an adult now. So she could be living her own life at this point. Although, with being in the States, there's a good chance her family could've had her go off to college since that's gotten more important these last ten years or so now." Yoongi says with a sigh, passing the papers off.
"We could maybe have her move in with us? Go find her and bring her here? You'd get to have your sister back, and could bring her to see your mom at the very least since she's wanted to know how she's been?" Kookie suggests. I smile a little at his suggestion.
"Yeah, but think about it, Kookie. She may not want to do that. And regardless, she'd probably end up having to live with us if his father didn't want her. We'd have to talk to Manager Nim about being able to bring her here and how best to handle that since it's something we wouldn't be able to easily hide from the fans. If she's in college, she'd have to find a new one here and hopefully pick up where she left off. Think about everything you'd be putting her through." Namjoon reasons. I sigh, nodding at his logic.
"Yeah, but she does have a right to know her real family, Namjoon. She's turning either eighteen or nineteen at the end of the year. She has a right to know her family and be able to live with them. We can talk to Manager Nim about it, as I do agree it's something we'd need to do. But I don't think the whole college thing would be too terrible. We can easily talk to Manager Nim about that as well and cover the cost since it'd be our doing to bring her here." Hobi speaks up.
"It's a risk, but if I were in Jimin's shoes, I'd want to bring her back here as well. And I don't think it's right that she doesn't get the opportunity to know her family and brother and his best friends. Plus it'd be a cool opportunity for her to experience a new country and culture." Jin agrees. I smile as I look around, everyone nodded in agreement.
"I have nothing against bringing her here. I just want us all to know what we'd be doing. We can talk to Manager Nim in the morning. It's late, though, and I think we're all going to need some sleep before we have this discussion tomorrow." Namjoon tells us. We all nod, standing up.
"Thank you, guys. I'm sorry for keeping everyone up. I just was really conflicted over this and needed advice." I thank them. They all smile, coming over and ruffling my hair.
"Anything for our cute Jiminie." Hobi says in a baby voice as he ruffles my hair before heading off to his room. I just chuckle, shaking my head at him as I too head off to bed with the rest.
