The Frontlines: Stay Human

The Prolouge - The Tale Where It All Starts

Medvac™ Inc. a Russian research organization entrusted with investigating the substance that transforms soldiers into superhuman warriors. After Aleksi Volonovich's death, the world was declared to be at war, and the United States was held responsible for the President's death. Since the United States was unable to overthrow the Russian government and secure a peace deal.

July 26, 2109, the day the third world war began. A scientist named Konstantin Roloyf from Medvac™ Inc. began conducting research for their "Charge-98" serum, a substance that makes troops superhuman. According to the commercial, this serum gives the soldier wrath and vigor, which makes him or her hostile to the adversary. However, the serum will be used only when the soldier is on the verge of death.

The usage of "Charge-98" persisted for three more years as the conflict went on; dying soldiers who used it returned to base even when their bodies were stuffed with bullets. Despite gaining superhuman power, the dying soldier's body becomes durable as a result of the effects of "Charge-98," increasing the likelihood that the soldier who took the dosage will survive.

Even the troops who had fully recovered from their injuries were urged to take the serum once more when they returned to the battlefield as the conflict goes on. The soldiers who took the "Charge-98" serum began to act more aggressively both towards the enemy and their fellow soldiers as a result of an overdose; if you want to see it for yourself you'll compare them to rabid wolves. Nobody expected this particular serum to go wrong. As soon as the infected soldier spot movement, they will assault it and begin to bite or devour their prey's muscles.

The user's brain begins to change after taking "Charge-98" more than twice, affecting the soldier's body and causing them to go wild and start assaulting or consuming everyone they see, according to the Global Health Agency.

The Russian government took various precautions to reduce the number of battle losses and injuries brought on by their zealous servicemen who took the "Charge-98" serum. Months later, the "Charge-98" side effects worsened, according to the surgeons, who discovered the black mold on the patient's Cerebrum after opening the patient's skull.

"A black mold was discovered on the patient's cerebrum when we opened the patient's brain" Doctor Joshua Haul reported.

It states that the negative effects of the serum will become more severe if the patients remained uncured, so a cure must be produced as soon as possible. Following this occurrence, Russia surrendered and requested assistance from the United States in treating the soldiers who had become ill as a result of the serum's adverse side effects. The scientist, Doctor. Konstantin, who was formerly viewed as a hero, was now behind bars for dispensing the drugs to the soldiers without researching its potential negative effects.

Many institutions and laboratories around the world started working on a cure. However, a terrifying and deadly chaos occurred in Moscow, when soldiers who had taken the "Charge-98" during the war broke out from the hospitals and started attacking the civilians in public, biting them and devouring the ones who unfortunately had no chance to flee.

The police responded right away to the crisis, but even with the help of the military, they were unable to control it because Charge-98's effects were still intact with the infected. Until a horrible incident occurred, the dead and consumed civilians started to stand up, half-conscious and started running towards the police and military, assaulting them without hesitation.

Another expert study claims that if an infected patient bites another person, the bacteria from the mold spreads to the new host, infecting it, after 30 minutes of exposure with the infected, the new host becomes infected and starts rampaging around like others.

Due to the consistently rising infection rate in Russia, the fungal from the Charge-98 was officially recognized as a virus under the name "Black Virus". People in Russia moved throughout Europe and Asia with or without a passport and visa as the infection rates rose, which coincided with an increase in panic. Some Russian nationals were taken as refugees by other nations, while others attempted to conceal bites that could have spread a pandemic worldwide.

The bitten hosts begin to change into infected known as "Berserks," or simply "Zombies," rampaging through the streets, attacking anybody they encounter, devouring them, and spreading the sickness as the rate of infection rises as they travel.

The world is becoming more and more chaotic; riots, robberies, and rallies frequently take place. To lessen the infection, lockdowns and seclusion have also been implemented.

Furthermore, the Black Virus infects everyone and spreads everywhere, including the populated islands and small cities. In these times, no one is safe.

Even the Global Health Agency was concerned about this case since, if a solution wasn't found right away, it might mean the end of humanity as we know it. Industries from all over the world decided to construct an underground refuge for immune survivors and laboratories in order to safeguard the health professionals from the threat from the surface while they develop a treatment for the Black Virus.

Racism also exists, and when it first emerged, everyone blamed it entirely on Black men living all over the world, blaming nations like India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and others.

Religious organizations and other associations cited the news as saying, "It's the god's judgement to us, so no one is to blame. We must be unified and find a method to treat this global pandemic".

Numerous treatments have been developed throughout the years, but none of them are truly effective. Until the Global Medicine and Vaccine Institute or GMVI emerged as a healthcare management organization. The institute spent years looking for a successful treatment for Charge-98 and invested a lot of money in this project under the direction of two doctors who were also scientists, Doctor. Rembrandt Dieschron and Doctor. Ryle Davidson.

In an effort to develop a viable treatment for the illness caused by Charge-98, the institute continued its study year after year. However, it now appears that the treatment was not a success. They said that the Black Virus from "Charge-98" was severely militarized which is very bad and the Black Virus had already mutated into a harsher sickness; as a result, it might take a very long time to find a cure.

The entire process is quite challenging, especially when everyone on earth is hoping for the treatment you're going to develop. The staff at the GMVI continued to work on a cure for years until some of them experienced mental and physical instability and fled the facility, alerting the infected to the presence of the entire team and other survivors.

In short, zombies infiltrated the building and started attacking and devouring everyone. Inside, there was complete chaos, and the survivors and medical staff began to panic

Rembrandt calmly said, "Please keep cool and move to the eighth layer of the facility while we're settling the situation," as he grabbed the microphone from the desk.

One of the workers reported to Ryle, "Sir, the infected have broken the first level of the facility!"

While Rembrandt is assisting the other survivors in leaving the facility down to the eighth level, Ryle gave the order for the whole guards to protect the facility's second layer while they will go to the other floors to alert others.

Rembrandt held Ryle's left arm and stated, "Ryle, everyone here evacuated down to the eighth tier of this facility."

Ryle nodded and shouted, "Everyone retreat, we're done here," as he ordered the guards to go.

Unfortunately, the seven tiers of the facility were overrunned once the guards inside the second layer were murdered. Everyone along with Rembrandt and Ryle, everyone sprinted for their life down to the eighth layer of the facility.

Ryle pulled the lever up as the eight layer's doors closed, even though other survivors were still attempting to flee for their lives. He was left with no choice but to close his eyes and listen to the cries of those still alive coming from the overrunned facility. He said, staring into Rembrandt's eyes and the survivors, "We can't do anything to help them".

Many individuals continued to live after the devastating destruction of the building's remaining three stories, under the seven overrunned layers up until Ryle asked Rembrandt for a favor. He wanted Rembrandt to sleep inside the cryo chamber so that his body could be preserved for future generations. He also wanted Rembrandt's knowledge of the treatment to be preserved so that his study could continue after he and the other employees passed away while discovering the cure.

"Rembrandt... I want you to go to the cryo chamber," Ryle said, his menacing gaze locked on the young man.

After being taken aback, Rembrandt demanded to know why he had to enter the cryo chamber, grabbing Ryle's arms in the process "Why?! Why do I need to go inside the cryo chamber?!" he said.

Ryle answered as he glanced down, "I want to save your body! Okay?! I want you to continue the research after you wake up. I can't leave this earth without producing any antidote".

Rembrandt questioned, "H-how about you? You won't go into the cryo chamber as well?".

Ryle said, grabbing his left shoulder as he walked away, "Unfortunately no... I can't, the two scientists must not die at the same time. So that's why I'm asking you to go, you have my trust so please leave the cure to me and continue it once we perished in process."

Rembrandt had no choice but to follow Ryle as they made their way to the base, or tenth floor, where the facility's infinite power source is located. Ryle cautiously opened the capsule that resembled a cryo chamber and then let Rembrandt to lie down inside. Rembrandt was rendered unconscious when the cryo chamber closed, and he remained asleep for several years.

After Rembrandt was left asleep inside the cryo chamber, Ryle continued his studies for several years. Everyone at the institution goes insane day by day, month by month, year by year as the study continues, yet some people stay normal and tried to discover the opposite but effective cure. Years have passed, September 30, 2209. Doctor. Ryle's study was passed down to the last generation, with Jessica U. Vauldevere receiving the information. Unfortunately, Ryle and the others died in the process without getting the effective treatment for the Black Virus.

Jessica directed the study for years without any help, but she was unable to do it alone. Jessica became the first person in a century to advance to level 10 of the facility's ten floors. "The tale from the past will go to the future", she said as she slowly pushed the cryo chamber's button, causing the machines to gently and carefully open the capsule where Rembrandt was lying.

After a hundred years, someone roused me from my deep sleep. I was awakened by Jessica Vauldevere, Ryle's successor. I had hoped to see Ryle again, but they passed away before the cure was discovered. What transpired a century ago intrigues me. My name is Rembrandt Risch G. Dieschron, and I'm a doctor from a previous century.

Information about the Black Virus of Charge-98: A Russian serum known as "Charge-98" assists in the evolution of a soldier into a supersoldier and is only used when the soldier is on the edge of death. The Black Virus emerged over time as a result of "Charge-98" overdose adverse effects. The Black Virus is a brain disease produced by a black fungus that transforms individuals who get it into "Berserks" who subsequently attack everyone and turn them into so-called "Zombies."

The serum "Charge-98," which was produced during World War 3, and the black fungus that grows within the afflicted person's cerebrum are where the name "Black Virus" originates from.

A Man From The Past

I lie up as the cryo chamber opens after being awakened from a deep sleep by someone. The robots wrapped me in a blanket as a lady carrying a remote approached me. I questioned the woman, "Who are you? " since my recollections are extremely vague and not distinct enough to be recalled. I also asked myself, "Who am I?".

The woman looked and asked me "You can't remember?" she asked, with a blank expression.

I nodded as I stood up from the cryo chamber "Also where am I" I asked.

"You're inside the GMVI facility, Doctor. Rembrandt" she answered.

"Doctor. Rembrandt? Is that my name?" I asked to myself, as some of my memories within my mind suddenly cleared up as I collapsed on the floor gasping for air. I'm a doctor... My name is Rembrandt Risch G. Dieschron. The woman rushed over to assist me to stand up and said, "Are you okay, Doctor?" with concern on her voice.

The artificial intelligence (A.I.) spoke out of the blue, saying, "⌈ The Doctor is suffering from a terrible amnesia, due to a long slumber and low temperature inside the cryo chamber, adding that it may take years for him to restore his memories ⌋", The woman said, "ISLE, check the Doctor's body." "⌈ Understood ⌋" the A.I called "ISLE" dispatched some few devices to scan my body. My body seems to be normal but my mind remains unstable, the memories inside are still unclear except for my memories about myself.

The woman gave me a glass of water to drink, as the other personnel came inside the room and asked the woman if the awakening is a success.

"Jessica, is the awakening a success?" the guard asked to her.

The woman named Jessica nodded and gently took the empty glass away from me, "Yes its a success, but it seems like Doctor's memories are still unstable" she replied.

A woman with expressionless face kneels down and looks at my face closer "Do you remember anything, Doctor. Rem?" she asked.

I sighed and looks down "Unfortunately nothing except for the memories about myself." I replied.

Jessica gently pulled me up and slowly helped me walk "Don't talk to the Doctor yet, let his body temperature go back first".

Rembrandt was asked to lay down and rest on the bed by Jessica as she softly opened the room's door. Rembrandt found it difficult to process what was happening because several of the facility's elderly residents knew him, which confused him greatly. He asked himself, "How was that possible?" How can an elder know his past while he couldn't recall those memories?

He questioned Jessica about his past 100 years ago while he was lying down, asking, "Jessica, who am I and what am I... years ago." Jessica offered him an odd smile as she gave him an awkward look, as if she didn't want to inform them until after he had completely healed.

To be honest, Jessica wasn't born during the outbreak; her instructor Ryle is the only one who mentions Rembrandt when she asks what he's like or why he's in the cryo chamber. Jessica, on the other hand, is free to tell him everything about him and his previous subordinates.

"Doctor, I have to wait till you've recovered because I'm scared something could happen to you if I tell you right now," Jessica said. After Jessica left the room, Rembrandt sighed heavily in tiredness and cracked a little smile. "They say I was sleeping for centuries, so why do I feel tired?" he mumbled.

He was left alone in the room and continued to speculate about his history out of curiosity. He gently rose up and took advantage of the chance to walk below to the cryo chamber and to question ISLE about his background.

"⌈ Welcome back, Doctor. Rembrandt ⌋" ISLE greeted him.

Rembrandt looked into ISLE's robotic arms "ISLE, as a Doctor. Rembrandt that you know. Can you tell me what happened centuries ago?" he asked.

ISLE released a surprised tone of voice and answered his question "⌈ The systems declined to your offer. You must recover first before ISLE tell this information to you ⌋" he replied.

He urged, compelling ISLE to tell everything about him, "I'm absolutely fine! Look! I can move freely now, and my temperature climbs back to normal!"

ISLE sighed and immediately scanned his body and it seems like his body turned back to normal "⌈ Seems like you're already well, Doctor ⌋".

"Now you can tell me everything right?" Rembrandt asked desperately to ISLE.

Without hesitating, ISLE explained what transpired a century prior, the reason behind the epidemic, what was going on outside on the surface, and the reason he was put into a deep slumber inside the cryo chamber.

Jessica, on the other hand, was listening in on their talk from behind the door. She had never learned anything outside of the facility before; prior to this, she had been given clearance to only leave the perimeter of the building that its security could protect.

"⌈ Did any of them sounds familiar? ⌋" ISLE asked.

Rembrandt grabbed his face and starts remembering those memories "N-none of them gave me a clear memory about my past" he replied.

ISLE gently put his lab coat on his back that he used 100 years ago "⌈ How unfortunate, but are you pleased with what I told you? ⌋" he asked.

Rembrandt nodded and stands up as he wore the lab coat that ISLE gave to him "Yes... I'm in debt to you ISLE" he replied.

ISLE chuckled and gently tapped Rembrant on the chest with his large robotic arm. "⌈ Ohh, dear me. You're not, I'm just a mere machine that will help everyone inside the institution when needed. But the world is in your hands, Doctor ⌋" he said.

Before the robot, Rembrandt smiled before walking out of the room. From nowhere, a woman's voice called out, "Satisfied?" It was Jessica, and it looked that she had been actively listening to them. Rembrandt said, "Not yet... since some of my memories returned, I'll help you discover the cure." He then stepped into the elevator with Jessica and ascended to the first floor of the base.

She chuckled, "The world is waiting for this response, Doctor," as the elevator ascended and revealed a laboratory staffed by doctors and nurses searching for a treatment.

GMVI Subterranean Facility information: The ten levels make up the GMVI Underground Facility. The control room will be on the first floor, which serves as the first layer and serves as the facility's basis. The last floor, which is on the lower level of the subterranean facility, will be on the tenth, "The tenth floor", which is the power room or must be referred to as "The Heart of GMVI Facility" is located, the tenth floor was tightly secured by the facility guards to safeguard the safety of the whole bunker and the tenants as well. The bunker is surrounded by a number of rooms in the subterranean complex, acting as an anchor to keep the entire structure stronger in the case of an earthquake.

Image of the tenth floor:

The tenth floor is heavily guarded by GMVI personnel; it is said that the tenth floor is where the facility's infinite power source is located. When Rembrandt was still sleeping inside the cryo chamber, the facility was abandoned throughout the years to shield him from any harm, but once he was awakened, the whole area was restored, cleaned, and supervised by the technical specialists to keep the machinery running smoothly.

Afterword:

Hello everyone IDK_Novels here! I'm now going to focus on zombie based and post-apocalyptic stories, sorry for the sudden update I will also continue the first story I've made once I am done with The Frontlines story! Thank you everyone for your support! See ya!

Fragments Of Memories

He was welcomed by a lab full of medical professionals; for years, the institution had been looking into both an alternative and original solution for the "Black Virus". The GMVI facility was producing "Stimulous" serums, which were harmless and only needed when someone was bitten by a berserk. Once taken by a bite victim, the infection will be halted for further years. But Stimulous wasn't a cure; it was only just an alternative treatment for bites.

For years, the GMVI produced "Stimulous," but without Rembrandt, the manufacture of the remedy cannot continue. The world's institutes began collaborating with GMVI fifty years ago after the company produced an alternative treatment for Berserk bite victims known as "Stimulous". As a result, numerous medical facilities, including Titron Inc., Medlab, the Apollo Institute, the Global Healthcare Foundation, and Lion Intel, emerged up across the globe making their own alternative medicine for Berserk victims.

Jessica entered the lab and turned to face Rembrandt. "We've been developing an alternate treatment called "Stimulous," but this will only stop the virus within the human body. We can't continue the study into the cure without you, Doctor," she said.

Rembrandt took the research papers from Ryle a hundred years ago after Jessica's assistant gave it to him "Seems like, Doctor. Ryle made a great job here" he replied.

Jessica gave him with an odd smile after she heard those from Rembrandt, he seems to be he really forgot everything about her teacher.

A voice calling out to her from a distance said, "Jes..." "Jessic.." "Jessica...?" "Jessica? Are you okay?" was questioned out of the blue by Rembrandt, who appeared to have been asking her all along while she was barely aware at the time.

She said, "I'm sorry, I just spaced out."

Rembrandt put his hand on her head to check her temperature, but it didn't appear that she had any feverish symptoms. "Seems like you're alright, are you sure you're okay?" he worriedly enquired.

She answered in a flowery tone, "I... I'm Fine."

"That's fantastic then, don't stress yourself okay?" Rembrandt ordered, letting out a breath of relief.

Jessica gave him a crooked smile as she bowed down before heading straight to her desk to begin to work. Rembrandt was still considering his next move; all he needed to do was carry on with his investigation, but his recollections were still hazy and fuzzy in his mind.

He went to his designated desk and sat down, reviewing the stack of documents outlining the Black Virus investigation. As his head began to ache, he read everything. Rembrandt started to remember recollections of him from the past and promptly placed his face into his hand while gasping for air.

As he studied the records, memories from the past and all of his and his subordinates' research on the Black Virus became clear. The Black Virus was heavily militarized, which made it difficult for the employees to produce the remedy right away.

Rembrandt got to his feet and requested Jessica for the files of his colleagues a century ago. "Jessica, may I have the files of my former colleagues and our pictures?" he said. Jessica responded, "Sure I can give you those, but what are you going to do with them?" as she gave him a confused expression. Rembrandt just took her by the shoulders and begged her to do it without any questions, "Please, I need them right away."

Jessica escorted Rembrandt to the archives and handed him a metal box with information on the previous physicians, saying, "Here are the documents archives about them and how they are related to you".

Rembrandt immediately opened the metal box and scanned everything inside, their pictures, their documents and informations about them, until he took the picture of Ryle and him on their own desk studying together, Rembrandt trembled while staring at it until he fell down on the floor and starts gasping for air.

Rembrandt was struggling for breath as Jessica caressed his back and yelled, "Doctor!" "Doctor, are you okay?!" she asked.

While struggling to breathe, Rembrandt nodded and clutched his palm on his chest, responding, "Yeah... ack- I... I'm alright."

Jessica exhaled a sigh of relief as she summoned the woman with an expressionless face, "Ichika! Can you please give me a glass of water?" she ordered.

With a glass of water in hand, Ichika hurried to the archives and assisted Rembrandt to drink the water slowly, she advised in a cautious but toneless voice, "Drink it slowly, Doctor."

He slowly stood up as soon he calmed down while his vision was still fuzzy, the two immediately supported his back just in case he fell down. Rembrandt fell unconscious as the others came to put him back to his room.

Everyone inside the facility was worried to Rembrandt's health, while some of others are troubled and annoyed by his actions.

Hours later, Rembrandt woke up inside his room and looks around, "Seems like I collapsed again..." he sighed. "Are you okay, Doctor?" Jessica inquired as she and Ichika entered his room shortly after he woke up. Rembrandt smiled at her and looked down, embarrassed by what he had done. "I'm sorry for forcing you to give those documents, I caused you another trouble," he apologized.

Ichika chuckled and patted his head, "It's okay, Doctor. Rem... it's natural that you wanted to know those forgotten memories of yours," she replied with a cheerful tone of voice.

"Don't spoil the Doctor too much, Ichika! Doctor. Rembrandt from now on you will only know those memories once you have recovered, and you might die as a result because of your stubbornness!" Jessica snarled as she sighed and placed her palm to her head in disappointment.

Ichika stomped her foot in rage, yelling, "Woi! Don't yell at Doctor. Rem! Idiot!"

When Ichika labeled Jessica an idiot, Jessica winced "What?! I'm only warning the Doctor that he shouldn't do things that could affect his health!" she berated.

Seems like Rembrandt is confused of what is happening and just waited for the two to calm down. "I believe it could be best if I will wait for my health and recollect my memories than rushing it," he groaned. The two just stopped arguing after they heard that from Rembrandt and looked at him with their sympathetic eyes, "Yeah you should, Doctor. It might be bad if you would rush it" Jessica agreed with a smile.

"Hoh~ seems like Jessica-chan ish now goodie~!" Ichika teased Jessica in a childish manner, Jessica glared at her while cracking her knuckles and immediately pounced on her, punishing her by rubbing her knuckles on her head roughly. "You, childish freak!"

Rembrandt gently laughed as he closely observed them as they argued in front of him, "I wonder what the future has planned for me", he murmured.

Information about the serum named known as "Stimulous": A medication created by GMVI called Stimulous is used to cure infections brought on by the bites of infected people momentarily. In short, Stimulous is not a vaccine (yet), as it is merely a medication intended to lessen the severity of an infection caused by a Berserk. GMVI also advised everyone to use the therapy repeatedly since studies have shown that using Stimulous every five years has no negative effects on the human body. However, if the patient uses the serum every month or for a shorter period of time, lesser than five years to be exact, they might experience severe fatigue, discomfort, fever, and hallucinations, or even death.

For potential approaches to create a cure for Black Virus, the Stimulous is being studied by the GMVI until now.

Stimulous was found by a researcher named Doctor. Ryle Davidson and his assistant ***** *****. (The identity of his assistant remains a mystery.)
