A BIMBO'S LOSS

A Bimbo's loss

"Six missed calls. Seriously! This is so much worse than a buzzing mosquito 🦟," I complained.

"Well, it's quarter to eleven PM. Any husband would do that. You should be happy actually," Kate replied. "I can fight with an elephant 🐘 to get my husband think of me for even a second."

I was drunk. Totally drunk. But in my eyes I was sobber enough to sit behind the driving wheel. It worked out quite fine except for the few traffic 🚦 lights I beat. Managed to get 🏠 home anyway.

The house was quite and all the lights were off. I was surprised I didn't find my husband standing at the door 🚪 with a mouthful of blabber. I paced to the front door and forced it open, hopping to get some attention. Wow. That should have definitely been the wrong house. But the portrait of our wedding picture still frustratingly stared at me.

There were flowers 🌹🌺 everywhere. The dining table was well dressed with every bit of what I liked. "Crap. He missed the T-bone, "I complained to myself as I checked plate by plate 🍽️. No, he didn't. It was in the oven.

Impressive display I admitted to myself.

I lit the candles that stood on the table just to have a look at what was going on through his mind while I helped myself with the wine that lay on the table.

It took me at least ten good minutes to drag my body to our bedroom, a journey that would normally take less than one. And there he was, lying flat.

Last thing I clearly remember about that night was a beautiful rose that was placed on the pillow with a tiny card that I didn't even bother to read. I just wanted to sleep and I did.

My eyes opened to an unfamiliar ceiling and chatter. My head was hurting bad and I could barely feel my legs.

Kate was standing with our neighbour within the room. She seemed to be explaining how I got here. She mentioned a fire and that my husband carried me out to the safety but her words sank when she realized I was awake l.

"There was a fire at your house. Your husband died in an attempt to save your daughter, "Kate explained. "You are all he could pull out of fire. Happy anniversary."

She handed the now squashed rose to me, still tied to it's card.

"A beautiful Rose for my beautiful wife. Happy Anniversary" That's all the card said.

"We really need to get our gas piped checked, "Kate's husband whispered to her.

The emptiness. The loss. I could feel it cloud my head but still didn't want to believe this was true. My mind switched to the bitter reality. One that only I know and it eats me daily.

It was the candles. I was so drunk I forgot to turn them off 😭😭😭. What was I thinking in my head?
