"We aren't sure when she'll wake up.. so you have to be patient." a calm voice sounded.

"Patient.. I've been patient for a year and there is still no sign of her waking up.. It's been a year I've seen her beautiful eyes or heard her soothing voice.. it's like I'm dying each day.. It's breaking me." another voice interjected.

" I know it is hard for you, take care. I have to go check other patients. Call me if you need anything. I'm here for you." the calm voice said followed by some footsteps and sound of a door closing indicating that the said person has left.

Yu Yan who was lying on a hospital bed was disturbed by these voices, felt someone holding her hand. She wanted to wake up but when she tried opening her eyes, it felt like they were glued shut. When she couldn't open her eyes after some more trying, she began panicking, it became difficult for her to breath.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

There was shouting and shuffling around her but she couldn't hear them clearly anymore. And then she felt a pinch on her arm maybe they were injecting her, she found herself realxing. She could breath again. She tried opening her eyes once again and this time she succeeded.

Her eyes fluttered adjusting to the bright light in the room. All of the people around her were staring at her as if they never expected her to wake up. Then her gaze met another pair of eyes that were looking at her with tears in them. There was so many emotions in them that she couldn't understand.

An hour ago..

Lu Qiang, entered the hospital room which he has grown too familiar with in this past year. As he entered the room, his eyes directly went to the tiny frame of a women resting on the hospital bed.

The woman on the hospital bed was about 26 years old with a light blue hospital gown on her skinny body. Her face is pale and hair are lifeless. She looks a lot different to the lively girl in his memory.

He sighed. It's been a year and every single day he has been waiting here for her to wake up. But it has been the same silence each day as if she didn't want to wake up from her sleep.

Doctor came in at his regular time to check on her again. And it was the same reply as it has been all these days. There was no progress. No sign of her waking up at all. It frustrated him.

Usually when doctor tells him about her condition he maintains his calm. but today he felt like he couldn't hold on anymore.

"We aren't sure when she'll wake up.. so you have to be patient" doctor said.

"Patient.. I've been patient for a year and there is still no sign of her waking up.. It's been a year I've seen her beautiful eyes or heard her soothing voice.. It's like I'm dying each day.. It's breaking me." Lu Qiang said.

" I know it is hard fir you, take care. I have to go check other patients. Call me if you need anything. I'm here for you." Doctor tried comforting him by patting his shoulder.

He knew it was no point holding on, she won't wake up. Many specialists have seen her case and they all told him the same thing. But it was difficult for him to let go. Deep down he held onto the hope.

Lu Qiang looked back at the bed after he heard doctor leave. He walked and sat by her side, looking at her pale face. He held her bony hand in his. After a few moments, he noticed that she's having difficulty in breathing.

He immediately pressed the button to call the doctor and within seconds Doctor and some nurses came through the door. They gave her an injection and she relaxed, able to breath normally. And then something unimaginable happened, she opened her eyes. She woke up.

All the people were so shocked. They couldn't believe she actually woke up.

Her gaze moved across room adjusting to bright light and finally met him.

Lu Qiang felt too many things, he didn't know if he was dreaming again. Her beautiful forest green eyes were staring at him. Before he could comprehend anything he felt her eyes drooping again and his heart sank. What if she didn't wake up again?

He looked at the Doctor in panic and asked, "What's happening? Why did she close her eyes again?"

"Mr Lu, it's really a miracle that she woke up from her coma. It's normal for the patient to sleep again as she doesn't have enough energy right now. Don't worry, she will wake up."

"She will wake up.." Lu Qiang said as if he couldn't believe the words.

Doctor nodded, "Yes, Please inform me when she does. We have to run some tests."

Lu Qiang nodded, his sight never leaving her. He felt so happy that he wanted to scream. He moved closer to her and held her hand.

"Wake up soon Yu Yan.. I'm waiting for you.. "

It's been an hour and she's still sleeping.

Lu Qiang was beginning to feel restless. Just as he was about to call the doctor, he felt her hand move in his hold.

He looked at her and she slowly opened her eyes.

"Yu Yan.. " he whispered, not finding any words to say.

She stared at him for a few seconds and then looked across the room again. Her gaze on him felt so empty that he felt hurt. She again looked at him and this time she wanted to say something but was unable to.

He called the doctor informing him that she was awake. He noticed her looking at the glass of water on the table.

"Do you want some water?"

She nodded weakly. He helped her drink water.

"Who are you?" She asked, her scratchy voice from not speaking for so long.

He felt dumbfounded by her question. Before he could say anything. Doctor came in and told him to wait outside.

While waiting outside the hospital room, Lu Qiang's mind was revolving around the words that left her mouth a few minutes earlier. Why did she say that?

She doesn't remember him or she just doesn't want anything to do with him.

His thoughts were interrupted by the opening of the door. Doctor looked at him hesitating.

"What happened? She's okay right?" he questioned.

"Let's have a talk in my office Mr Lu.. "

He looked back at the room's door once again before following the doctor into his office.

The doctor was a middle aged man with some wrinkles showing on his face indicative of the experience he had. He asked Lu Qiang to have a seat.

"Is everything alright?" Lu Qiang asked sitting down.

"Mrs Lu's external injuries are already healed during the year. Her immune system is weak at the moment and she had a head injury in the car crash due to which she's suffering from amnesia. She doesn't remember anything at all including who she is and what's her name."

"Memory loss.. Will she recover from it?"

"I can't say anything for sure. There are cases where patients recover within few days or weeks and there has been cases where they are not able to remember anything in a lifetime." the doctor answered him.

"Right now the most important thing is to be with her and support her because such a patient who doesn't remember anything at all gets scared often and is prone to have anxiety and panic attacks." he added on.

"You need to have patience with her. Memory loss cases are always tricky we can't predict anything. May be seeing familiar places and people trigger her memories. She can get flashbacks or may be she'll not even react to them at all." the doctor said.

"I'll keep it in mind. When can she go back home." Lu Qiang questioned.

"We are taking some tests and then we have to keep her under observation for a week so nothing goes wrong."

"Can I see her now?"

"You can but be careful with her. Keep in mind that she doesn't know anything at all so she's scared right now. You have to approach her carefully."

"I will. Thank you doctor" Lu Qiang said and left the doctor's office.

On the other side.

Yu Yan was confused. She doesn't remember anything. Not a single thing at all. She doesn't know her name. The doctor did address her as Mrs Lu, which means that she's married. Was the God like handsome man she saw earlier her husband?

Why was she here? What happened to her? There were so many questions in her mind and no answers at all. She was caught up in her thoughts when the door to the room opened and the same man from earlier entered the room.

He was tall, wearing a black suit that was perfectly fit. His facial features were exquisite with tall nose, clear eyes and sharp jaw. His hair were dark and neatly combed. He really looked like some God.

She didn't even realise that she was staring at him from the moment he walked in.

"I know you have many questions about all of this. I'll answer them for you, okay?" he said, his voice deep and a bit raspy after he sat down in front of him.

She blinked at him and came out of her thoughts.

"Are you my husband?" she asked hesitantly.

Lu Qiang smiled and looked into her eyes.

She felt that he became more breathtaking when he smiled.

"I am. How did you know that?"

"Doctor called me Mrs Lu."

"Yes, I'm your husband my name is Lu Qiang."

"Lu Qiang" She whispered.

Lu Qiang who has been yearning to hear his name from her mouth for a year felt like he is dreaming.

"What's my name?" She asked breaking him out of his thoughts.

"You are Yu Yan."

"Yu Yan" She repeated as if to feel some familiarity with her own name.

"I know it's weird and scary for you to not remember anything. but I want you to know that I'm here for you."

She nodded weakly resting her head.

"Are you tired?" He asked.

She nodded again.

" I know that there are so many things you want to know. There's plenty of time to do it. Don't rush anything."

"How long was I in the coma?" Yu Yan asked looking at him again.

"It's been a year." Lu Qiang answered and when he looked at her she looked interested in listening about herself.

"You had a car accident a year ago where your car fell down a mountain side. It was pretty bad. You had a lot of injuries which slowly healed during the year." Lu Qiang continued on.

Yu Yan moved her hand and noticed the IV needle in her arm and saw the fluid bottle hanging above.

"You can't have solid foods yet. I'll ask someone to get some soup for you." Lu Qiang said.

Yu Yan nodded looking down. Lu Qiang stood up and rubbed her head before going out. Yu Yan touched her head and thought about his actions which seemed natural to him. But she felt unfamiliar with this feeling.

He was a stranger to her, a stranger who knows everything about her. A stranger who is her husband. She doesn't know how to react to him.

Yu Yan looked at the window of her room. It was evening and the sky was colored with hues of red and orange just like something out of a painting. Simply beautiful. She was fascinated by the scenery outside and the door opened breaking the tranquility in the room.

Yu Yan looked at the door and the nurse who entered smiled at her.

"It's time for your medicine." She said to Yu Yan placing the tray on the side table.

Yu Yan looked at her and after drinking the medicine, she asked, "Did you take care for me in this year?"

"Yes, I did."

"so, do you know my husband?"

"Of course I do. It's hard to miss a person who is here most of the day and even sleeps here at night."

"He was here everyday for a year?"

The nurse nodded at her and then the door opened again.

Lu Qiang entered the room holding a thermos in his hand.

The nurse greeted him to which he replied with just a nod. It was so cold and totally opposite to his behavior with Yu Yan.

When his eyes landed on Yu Yan his gaze changed from cold and indifferent to warm and loving instantly.

"I bought some soup for you. Hurry up and drink it before it gets cold." he said sitting down and serving the soup in a bowl. He fed her patiently spoon by spoon.

Even the nurse looked at him surprised, it was the first time she heard his warm tone rather than the usual ice cold voice. She then quietly left the room giving privacy to the two people inside.

A week later...

In the morning when Yu Yan woke up, she didn't find Lu Qiang in the room as usual.

The nurse saw her looking around and helped her to sit.

"Are you looking for Mr Lu?" She asked Yu Yan.

Yu Yan nodded and asked, "Is he not here?"

"Mr Lu went for an urgent meeting early morning. He said he will be back soon."

"Alright."

"You can go home today. Mr Lu has asked the Doctor to discharge you. He said it's better for you to recover at home. "

Yu Yan nodded. Home, she doesn't remember it. How many people are there in her family? Where are her parents? Why didn't they come to see her? No one came to see her except Lu Qiang who was here all the time. Does no one know she's awake now? What if they know but doesn't want to see her?

What kind of person was she?

Yu Yan was so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't realise she was hyperventilating. She couldn't breathe. The nurse saw her and knew that she's having a panic attack.

"Calm down. Take deep breaths. Focus on my voice."

Yu Yan couldn't hear her. She felt her vision getting blur. Suddenly she was wrapped in strong arms and heard a steady heart beat.

"Breathe with me yan yan. breathe in.. breathe out.. breathe in.. breathe out.. "

The voice took pulled her out and she followed it taking deep breaths. After some time.. Yu Yan began breathing normally. She then realised Lu Qiang was holding her close to his chest.

"Are you okay now?" He asked her with a worried look on his face.

"I'm okay."

Yu Yan moved back and he took a step back letting her out of his arms.

"We are going back to home today." He told her.

The nurse who was standing aside said, "I'll help Mrs Lu to get dressed."

Lu Qiang nodded at her and said to Yu Yan, "I'll go talk to the doctor."

He left the room and the nurse helped Yu Yan into the wheelchair taking her to the bathroom.

After getting ready when Yu Yan stood in front of the mirror with the help of the nurse. She looked at her long brown hair although they looked lifeless right now, she knew they will look beautiful with proper care. She looked at her face which was pale as a ghost but she could still see her beautiful features and her green eyes which were shining.

She was a beautiful woman and she matched equally with Lu Qiang who was handsome. They were a good looking couple.

Yu Yan tried to take a step but stumbled as she had no strength. The nurse who was by her side held her firmly and sat her down on the wheelchair.

"It's totally normal for coma patients, your muscles are not accustomed to being used after so long. Doctor has already told Mr Lu that you will need physiotherapy to get better." The nurse explained.

A knock sounded on the bathroom door. The nurse opened the door and she wheeled Yu Yan out.

Lu Qiang kneeled down in front of her and said, "I know you don't like wheelchair. Let me help you."

He picked her up in his arms and she looked at him surprised.

"Let's go home." He said taking her out.

Outside the hospital, a car was waiting for them and when they got close, the driver opened the door for them.

"Master, Madam" he greeted them.

Lu Qiang nodded at him and helped Yu Yan in and sat down as his phone rang. He talked a bit on the phone and opened a file that was in the car.

It was silence in the car which was moving at a steady speed. Yu Yan looked at Lu Qiang and found him busy reading the file. His posture was elegant and he looked majestic.

"What do you do?"

Lu Qiang looked at her confused.

"The Nurse said you went for a meeting. Do you work in some comapny?"

"You can say that. I do work in a company."

"Is your salary good? I mean supporting a coma patient for a year must have cost a lot."

Yu Yan asked and instantly regretted her weird question.

"Are you worried I won't be able to take care of you. I have plenty of money don't worry about it."

"Why did you wait for a whole year for me to wake up? Even if I did wake up, I don't even remember you.. Is it worth it?"

"I couldn't let you go.. no matter what.. As long as you wake up it doesn't matter if you remember me or not.. And a year is nothing, I would wait a lifetime if I have to." He said to her.

Yu Yan felt flustered hearing him and looked out of the window. Did he love her so much or was it his responsibility to her as her husband.

After some time a large gate came in the view. The gate opened and their car drove in. Inside was a big mansion with garden area, swimming pool and what not. It looked so massive so big.

Yu Yan looked at Lu Qiang again.

"This is your house?" She asked astonished at the size of the house.

"No. This is our house."

The car came to stop in front of the main door. Lu Qiang stepped out of the car and opened the door picking her up again.

Yu Yan looked around in astonishment, just how big is this place.

The door opened and revealed an old couple with smiles on their faces.

"Welcome back Mr and Mrs Lu." they both said in unison.

Lu nodded at them and stepped in along with Yu Yan. The large living area came in view and he gently placed her down on the sofa.

"Welcome home.." Lu Qiang said to her.

"They are our housekeepers, Uncle and Auntie Liu." Lu Qiang said introducing the couple behind him.

Yu Yan smiled at them.

"Since you are recovering it's better to live here than the apartment. I will feel assured with someone around to look after you at all times." Lu Qiang said as he sat down next to her.

"You have another house?" She asked.

"This is the mansion given by my grandfather. I like to live in my apartment. It's closer to my office and easier to manange."

"Where did I like to live before the accident?"

"You liked it here because this palce has a big garden and open space to walk around."

Lu Qiang had two houses. He really liked the apartment as it had more privacy and homely feel. Whereas Yu Yan said she liked the mansion better as it had garden area. So he always took her to live here on weekends.

Yu Yan looked out the huge window and saw the big garden.

"Really?" She asked.

"What?" Lu Qiang looked at her and questioned.

"Did I really liked this place more?" She asked with a frown on her face.

"Do you have any doubt?"

"This mansion is big and nice but I will only like it in case I was avoiding someone. I would prefer a homely apartment more." She said softly as she looked out at the garden again.

This sentence left him with some thoughts. The thoughts he didn't want to think about.

Auntie Liu came closer to them and said, "Sir, I have cleaned the room as you asked."

"Let me take you to the room. The doctor said you need to rest properly." Lu Qiang said to Yu Yan and was about to pick her up when she stopped him.

"It's not convenient for you to carry me everywhere. I will take the wheelchair." Yu Yan said to him.

"Madam is right, I'll get the wheelchair." Auntie Liu said and went to get the wheelchair.

"I don't mind carrying you everywhere." Lu Qiang said to Yu Yan.

"I know you can." Yu Yan said and Auntie returned with the wheelchair.

Lu Qiang helped her to the wheel chair and was about to push her.

"Let me take madam to the room sir, I'll help her change in comfortable clothes first." Auntie Liu said taking the handle from him.

Yu Yan left with Auntie Liu. Leaving Lu Qiang standing alone near the window as he turned around to face the garden.

It was a beautiful view outside, many kinds of roses were planted outside just because Yu Yan once told him that she liked roses. Her favorite flowers were orchids, he knew that she was lying to him but still planted all those roses for her.

Lu Qiang smiled but this smile was rather different as he appeared more sad with this smile on his face.
