...The strange man...

"Penelope! wake up!" her mom yelled at her "wake up! it's your birthday!!!" she said excitedly to the girl who was still rubbing her eye."it's my birthday?" Penelope said as she got up "of course! happy 10th birthday my princess!" her mom said "oh, it's my birthday" she said with no interest at all."what do you want for your birthday?" mom said "I don't know" she said as she got out of bed "where are you going?" mom said a confused expression "to the bathroom" she said as she went to the bathroom to brush her teeth.

After brushing her teeth and taking a bath,she wore a white cardigan,a black skater skirt and black tights,as it was January and she knew they were going to go somewhere for her birthday. She went down and had her breakfast."Where do you want to go?" her mom said "to the library again?" she adds "no I-" Penelope got cut off "do you wanna go shopping instead of sitting in the library and reading the same old books you've read multiple times?" her mom said "o-okay?" she said, she didn't like all that girly stuff, all she wanted to do was to sit at home, by the fire and read a book. All her classmates call her a 'nerd' because she always does her homework on time, always gets good grades, never talks to anybody and the quiet kid in class. There was only one word to describe her, an introvert.But she didn't care about all that, she just wants to live a happy and peaceful life. She was also bullied one time when she was in fourth grade,just because she was always shy to talk to anyone.

"Oh, there's a letter for you" her mom said which made Penelope wonder who it was from."who is it from, mother?" she said "it's from-" before she even finished the sentence, she tore the paper into pieces and threw it in the fireplace."Mother?" she said with a concerned look "oh, it's nothing darling" she said with an awkward smile.She wore a coat over her dress and said "let's go, okay?" she sounded scared and worried "go grab your coat and wear it, it's snowing outside" she said as Penelope grabbed her coat and wore it over her cardigan because it was cold outside.

Just when her mother opened the door, a strange man wearing a long black cloak with a hood covering his face,stood by the door and said "Penelope, I've come to take you back where you belong" her mom slammed the door shut and said "Penelope, change of plans, go to your room and don't come out until and unless I tell you, okay?" she was panicking but Penelope did as she was told, she went to her room and locked the door.She could hear her mother and the strange man speaking but couldn't quite make out what they were talking about and then, after a long time, she heard footsteps coming towards her room."Penelope, you can come out now" her mother said in a low voice as she unlocked the door and stepped outside, the strange man was standing behind her mother but she couldn't see his face."Listen to me Penelope, you have to go and stay with him until you've finished your 7th year in Kingston academy, okay?" she said, bending down to her level."Don't forget about me okay?" Penelope didn't have a clue about what her mother was talking about,although, she just nodded her head."I'm going to pack your bags and you'll leave at any minute now, okay?" she said with a small smile on her face and went to pack Penelope's luggage, leaving her with the strange man."So Penelope, do you believe in magic?" he said "no" she said without hesitation "oh,well you have to read all the books about spells and potions and magical beasts etc" he said "spells?! potions and magical beasts?!" she said with a confused expression "yes" he said,"Penelope, here's your luggage" her mother said as she gave it to her."well, we're going to go now" he said as he sighed "goodbye Penelope" she hugged her tightly "do I really have to go?" Penelope said "yes, you have to" her mother said,wiping her tears "let's go" he said as he held her hand "okay" she said as she looked at her mother one last time before she goes away with this strange man who just came minutes ago;far away from where she was staying.

"It's okay, you can write to her" he said as they both walked towards the door."Where are we going to go?" she said as they both walked outside,"Not 'we', you" he said and Penelope looked at him in confusion and he said "you are going to Kingston academy" he stopped and sighed as he said "appareo!" and a broom appeared out of nowhere. He got on the broom and said "well? what are you doing?!" he said as she just stood there,"you weren't kidding when you told me about magic,spells,potions and magical beasts?!" she said with a surprised look on her face,"of course not! why would I lie?!" he said,"now get on! we're going to be late!" "o-okay?" she said with a confused and worried look on her face and got on the broom, holding her luggage,"aren't people going to see us?" she asked and he said "don't worry about that".

They flew high and she forgot that she was scared of heights."Uh...excuse me but I forgot to tell you" she said as she gripped the broom tightly and he was confused,"I'm scared of heights" she said and closed her eyes "seriously?! you forgot?! how can you be so stupid?!" he said angrily "I thought you were smart!" he said as they slowly began to go down "don't blame me! you were the one who forced me to come along with you on this stupid broom!" she said as she was on the verge of tears."Oh right, sorry" he chuckled as they both landed on the ground and she got off the broom.

"M****aybe, we'll go there by teleporting?" he said "teleporting?!" she said with a surprised expression "yes, surely you're not scared of that are you?" he said as he took his hood off.He had grey hair and looked about 30-40 years of age ,"let's go then!" he said cheerfully and walked towards a phone booth and said "come along!" he seemed happy about going to the magic world so she followed him inside the phone booth "are you going to call somebody?" she said curiously,he looked at her in confusion and said "I don't know anybody who is non-magic, so I'm not going to call anybody" and she said "then what are we doing here?" she asked "we're going to teleport aren't we?" he asked her and raised his eyebrow "we are going to teleport using a phone booth?!" she asked with a surprised look on her face and he said "yeah" and he picked up the telephone and dialled the number '1111' then suddenly we were in some strange place, yet there were many people wearing long robes and carrying a wand."Where are we going to go?" she asked him curiously and he said "to Wickensburg" with a cheerful tone,"what for?" she asked,"for your uniform and wand" he said as he opened the door and went outside and told her "come along now! you don't want to get lost in a place like this do you?" he said,walking in a funny way as she followed him quietly.

"We are here!" he stopped walking and she bumped into him, she looked in front and saw a shop that was written 'Wickensburg' at the top,he opened the door and said "after you" she went in the shop and saw many rectangular shaped boxes on the shelves and long black robes and she saw one wand that was placed in a small cushion.

"Mr.Winslow,fancy seeing you here" somebody said,which made Penelope look back,"What are you looking for?" he said, he was an old man with grey hair, "wand and uniform" the man said and Penelope thought that he still hadn't told his name yet."For whom?" the old man asked and the man told him "for that young lady over there" he said,looking at her and the old man gasped "I think that wand will do" he said, pointing to the one she was looking at and he walked towards her and took the wand in his hand and said "take it" and she took it and he said "well what are you ****waiting**** for? give it a little flick!" he said, almost surprised that she didn't know what to do with it. She flicked the wand and the other boxes fell from the shelves, he said "just like your mother" and the man looked angrily at him, he cleared his throat and said "uniform?" and the old man went to the back of the shop and brought one black robe,two black skirts,a pair of black shoes and black socks."We'll take these, thank you very much" he said, taking the things and putting them in a big bag.They went outside the shop and she asked him "what about the money? aren't you going to pay him?". he looked at her and said "no, it's already been paid" and he kept on walking, she was walking quietly at the back of him

...the wand...

"Where are we going next?" she asked him because she was tired of walking and he said "Philliasafia" she looked at the back of him and said "what a weird name, what are we going to buy from there?" she asked him "that depends,do you want an owl, a rat or cat?" he said as he turned around and she said "can I get a cat instead of an owl?" he looked at her and said "of course, we are here" he opened the door and said "you go in first" she went in and saw many owls and cats."Which one would you like?" he asked her and she said "is there a ragdoll here?" and he went near the counter and asked the man who was standing there and the man went to a room and came back with a cat which was a ragdoll."It's so cute!" she squealed and the shopkeeper said,"it's not just cute, it's smart too and it's a boy" the man cleared his throat "we'll take him" he said and carried him while carrying the bag.

...the cat...

"Can I carry him?" she asked and he stopped walking "what if he scratches you?" he said "I don't think he'll scratch me,plus you're carrying a heavy bag" she said and took the cat in her arms."Come to think of it, you haven't told me your name yet" she said out of curiosity,"my name is Elliot Winslow" he said and started walking again,"nice to meet you, Mr.Winslow" she said,smiling "where are we going to go now?" she asked as she patted the cat's head,"to your house" he said,he stopped walking and turned around,"my house? i have a house here?!" she asked, surprised,"well not technically, it's your father's house" he said, smiling at her."Let's just use magic now, hold onto my arm and don't let go, okay?" he said as she held his arm tightly like he said, she closed her eyes and then when she opened them, she was somewhere else.

...The train ride...

Previously-

When she opened her eyes, she was somewhere else. Instead of seeing a small house, she saw a huge gate in front of her which was written 'MOON' ,"let's go in, shall we?" Mr, Winslow said cheerfully as she followed him inside."Welcome home,miss Penelope" a maid said as she bowed to her, and she was very confused, why would somebody bow to her and call her 'madam'? "take these things to her room and organize it" Mr Winslow said in a strict tone as he handed them the things, they took them and went upstairs.

...the house...

"So will you tell me why I'm here or not?" she asked him as she sat on the sofa in the living room while patting the cat, who was sitting on her lap,"well..." he said while taking his robe off, he wore a suit underneath it,"...you're here because you belong here and you're going to stay here until you've finished your 7th year at Kingston" he adds,"what if I don't want to stay here?" she asked him, raising her eyebrow,"you don't have a choice, and don't you want to learn more about magic?" he said,"well yeah,I do want to learn more about magic but when do I have to go to that school you were talking about?" she asked him with a bit of curiosity,"you'll be leaving for school tomorrow so you have to read all the books that are in your room" he said and took out a pocketwatch and said,"it's getting quite late, why don't you go to your room and read the books, they will help you on your first day" and she asked,"where exactly is my room?"standing up and picking up her cat who was purring non-stop,"upstairs,to the left" he said and left her.

She entered the room and saw many books were kept on the bed for her to read."How am I supposed to finish reading all these books in such a short period of time?!" she said to herself as she kept the cat on the floor and it jumped on the bed and slept."Such a lazy cat" she chuckled as she took a book,she sat on the floor."Spells? interesting" she flipped the pages to the last page and saw '400' on the bottom of the page,"four hundred pages? wow" she flipped the pages to page number one and began reading.

After a while,she finished reading it and someone knocked on the door and said "madam,it is time for dinner, may I come in?" she stood up,walked towards the door and opened it, when she opened the door, she saw a maid carrying a tray and said "dinner?" she said "thank you" and the maid asked ,"may I come in?" and she said "y-yes" she was stuttering because she was shy, she wasn't used to having maids come to her room and serve dinner to her,the maid then kept the dinner on the side table and bowed, she said,"enjoy your meal" and left the room."Why did she say it like that? like it was going to be my last meal" she was a little doubtful about everything, it happened so fast and she forgot it was still her birthday but she ate the food anyway because she was starving.

...her bedroom...

It was morning and she still hasn't finished reading the books yet. Then she heard knocking on the door and somebody said,"Penelope, it's time for breakfast!" it was Mr Winslow, she opened the door and saw him standing,he smiled at her and said "you've been reading the books all night?" which made her smile awkwardly and she said,"no" she pushed him aside and went downstairs, she was obviously lying because the books were very interesting and well, who would blame her? she loves reading books.

"Madam, you shouldn't run around like that, you could fall and get injured" the maid said as she poured tea into the cup,"I think I'll be alright but thanks for your concern" she said as she sat on the chair and took a sip of the tea."Your father will be here at any minute now, and you have to get ready for school too" Mr Winslow said which made her choke on the tea and now she was coughing,"oh dear! are you okay?!" the maid said with a concerned look on her face, while patting her back,"what happened? are you okay?" Mr Winslow sounded concerned too,"f-father?!" Penelope said while she was still coughing and the maid, patting her back."Oh right,I haven't told you about your father" he said as he wiped her clothes with a napkin,which had tea spilled all over them."Your biological father's name is Nicholas Moon" he said, throwing the napkin in the dustbin "that 's right, my name is Nicholas Moon" somebody said which made the three of them turn their heads at the back,"master,you have returned" he said as they both bowed to him.

He then turned his attention to Penelope who was still shocked that her whole life had been a lie."How are you my dearest daughter?" he said, smiling at her "I'm okay, I guess" she said to him, still shocked."That's good, I heard you'll be going to Kingston today so I hope you read all of the books that I placed on your bed or else you'll get embarrassed in front of all your classmates" he said as he took out another book from his briefcase,"take it,I think it'll be boring in the train so I brought you a story book" he said as he gave her the book,"thank you" she said while looking at the book,"anything for my daughter" he said as he took a seat and the maid poured him a cup of tea,"Penelope,I think you should be getting ready for school" Mr Winslow said,"oh right,I have school" she said as she stood up and walked towards the stairs,"have a great day in school, write to me if you have time and I'll see you on December" her father said, waving at her,"December? Is it a boarding school?" she asked him, stopping halfway to the stairs,"yes" he said, taking a sip of the tea,"oh" she said, running to her room.

She ran to her room and closed the door,"what should I wear?" she asked herself, searching for clothes in the wardrobe.After a while, she finally picked the clothes she wanted to wear.Her hair was tied in a ponytail.

"Penelope? can I come in?" her father said, knocking on the door,"yes" she said while packing her bags and he went in,"I wanted to give you something before you went away for school" he said,"what is it?" she asked, looking at him,"a necklace that once belonged to your mother" he said as he took out a small silver necklace from his pocket,"my mother?" she asked as she took her cat in her arms,"not the one that's been taking care of you for eleven years, your real mother" he said as he sighed,"so the one whom I've been calling 'mother' for eleven years is not actually my mother?" she asked, her eyes filled with tears."No, she's not your real mother and please don't cry" he said with a worried look on his face,"oh" she looked emotionless,"anyways, can I put it on?" he asked her, holding up the necklace,"yes, thank you" she said as he put the necklace on for her,"you're beautiful,just like your mother" he said as he smiled at her,"what is my mother's name?" she asked,"Amber, your mother's name was Amber" he said in a low voice,"where is she?" she asked,"she passed away eleven years ago" he said "oh,sorry" she said,looking down, he sighed and said,"you're going to be late for school if you keep talking to me, I'm sorry I won't be able to go to say goodbye to you because I have work so..." he said cheerfully,"no,it's okay" she said,"Penelope, it's time for you to go" Mr Winslow said, knocking on the door.

"Okay!" she said to Mr Winslow,"goodbye, Penelope" her father said,"bye father" she said, opening the door and going with Mr Winslow."You've brought all your things?" Mr Winslow said in a strict tone,"yes" she said,nodding her head,"including your wand,uniform,books and clothes?" he asked,checking his pocketwatch,"good" he said as he smiled at her,"now hold onto my arm" he said and she nodded as she held onto his arm,she closed her eyes.

When she opened her eyes,she saw a train and people were waving goodbye to their children as they were leaving for school."Well then,I guess this is goodbye" Mr Winslow said with a small smile on his face,"goodbye, I'll see you in December!" she said as she headed towards the train,carrying her cat in her arms, "do remember to write!" he said, waving goodbye to her,"I will!" she said as she went onto the train.

There were many students on the train,but she found one compartment that was empty and sat there.After a while,a red haired girl came and opened the door and said,"do you mind if I sit here? everywhere else is full" there was an owl on her shoulder and she was carrying many books,"yeah sure,I don't mind" Penelope said with a smile on her face,"thank you" she said as she put the books on the seat.

"Are you a first year?" she asked,caressing the owl's head,"yes,are you a first year too?" Penelope asked as she patted her purring cat sitting on her lap,"my name's Laura Jane Stone but people call me Jane, what's yours?" she asked,"nice to meet you Jane,my name is Penelope Williams" she said,"can I call you Laura instead? i kind of like Laura better" she adds,"yeah,sure" Laura says while smiling at her,"no offense but are you a muggle or a half-breed?" she asked curiously,"what's a muggle and a half-breed?" Penelope questions,tilting her head,"you don't know?" Laura sounded surprised,"no" she said,clueless,"well,muggle is a person who doesn't have magical powers and their children,I think,are called muggle-borns, half-breed is a person whose parent has magic but the other doesn't" she explains to her,"ohh" Penelope said,"there is another, pure bloods" Laura continued,"a pure blood is a person whose mother is a witch and father is a wizard" she explained to the clueless girl,"so that means that you're a..." Penelope said,waiting for her to answer,"half-breed, I'm a half-breed" she said with a small smile,"oh, it's like you're a dog or a cat" she said,"huh?" Laura was confused about what Penelope said,"half-breed,you know,breed?" she let out an awkward laugh as she said that,"oh" Laura said nodding her head awkwardly,"I mean, no offense" she said in a serious tone,"oh no, it's fine" Laura said.

After getting to know each other for a while they had become friends and her cat hissed at her owl."What's your cat's name?" Laura asked,"I don't know,snowball, maybe?" Penelope said,not sure what name she'll give her pet,"snowball? why snowball?" Laura asked curiously,"because he has white fur and blue eyes" she said while looking at her cat who was sleeping,"what about your owl?" she asked Laura,"my owl's name is pearl" she said,"nice name" Penelope said.
