It was my eighteenth birthday, the age when we are supposed to find our mate. Some find them instantly, and others can spend centuries searching for their partner destined by the Moon Goddess. It was a full moon night, and I was in the forest, by the riverbank. I had just shifted for the first time, having gone through my transformation alone, which is why I had taken all precautions. I brought a change of clothes, as what I was wearing would be torn to shreds once I shifted into my wolf form, and I had left it prepared behind a tree so I could get dressed when I returned to my human form. I was already changed, only needing to put on my shoes, when I perceived an aroma that I found exquisite. I couldn't help but breathe deeply; I needed to fill myself with that scent, it felt so good, like it completed me. My nostrils flared as much as possible trying to take in as much of that aroma as possible, and then I knew, my mate was close.
Mate.- My wolf said through our mental link, my heart raced, it felt like it was going to escape my chest. I was so happy that I couldn't handle it all. My eyes opened, searching almost desperately for the owner of that delicious scent. I looked in all directions and then I just had to follow the trail of that aroma. I started walking with some hesitation at first, and as I made my way and felt the aroma getting closer, I ran almost desperately for fear of losing him, and then I saw him. He was standing with his back to me, his gaze on the absolutely calm water of that river that bordered a large part of the forest. A smile appeared on my lips as I saw his silhouette almost drawn by the light that the moon gave off in that immense darkness among so much nature. Without hesitation, I approached him, happy, still with my smile and in such a hurry that I swear I was running.
"Mate!" Was all I managed to say as I approached, and it was right there that he, my mate, turned around and my face collided directly with a fist, which was the only thing that was waiting for me from him.
Between the darkness of the night and the happiness I was carrying, I had not paid attention to this detail, his arm extended and his fist clenched at the end, waiting for my face to impact with it. The blow made me fall seated to the floor, I could not avoid taking my hand to my mouth, that was where it hit. The surprise of that made me take a while to realize the blood that was flowing from there, the blow had cut my lip. I was stunned, there on the ground, on the earth, exactly as I had fallen, I didn't understand anything.
"Ma... mate?" I asked with doubt, that action and the fact of still being in the shadows of the night only made me doubt and feel almost afraid. And then he approached, and there I saw him, I saw his face and I understood everything. My life partner, my mate, my link to fuse my soul and be one, was none other than Alpha Kyle Kinnaman. And now yes, I understood everything. I had feared this day so much, that the happiness of having found my mate clouded my judgment for a few moments, but reality had hit me, and literally.
Kyle Kinnaman was the Alpha of the Winter Mist pack. He was a man in his thirties. He was a predator, feared and respected, more out of fear than anything else. Bloodthirsty, violent, and quick to resort to weapons. The bloodiest wars of recent years had been carried out by him, and he had emerged victorious in each one of them. He was cold and calculating and also a known womanizer, he lived in brothels and had countless lovers in all the nearby packs. The worst part is that we knew each other, and he, being older than me, was already aware of our bond, but he never claimed me. That didn't surprise me, he despised me from the first moment an oracle predicted our union. I still remember it like it was yesterday, I was twelve years old when some wise men from the pack council arrived at the house where I lived to give me that information. He arrived later, and when he was informed of this, his face transformed, it scared me. His heavy and furious aura was noticeable among everyone, his anger was so great that it seemed to suffocate you, the force of his aura seemed to crush my chest, making it difficult to breathe, I was scared, a lot, and I asked the Moon Goddess that the oracle be mistaken, and not to have any bond with that man. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't the last time I had to see him, I harbored the illusion that everything was a confusion and that he and I had nothing to do with each other.
And there he was, in front of me, with his sinister face, staring fixedly into my eyes as if he wanted to kill me with just his gaze. And I was still immobile on the floor. He approached my face and as a reaction I moved my body away a little, that brought a half smile to his face, as if my fear fed him.
"Mate you said?. What makes you think that?" He spoke to me almost in a mocking tone and I don't know why I felt fear, the words didn't come out of my mouth and then his face turned serious and then he shouted at me."Answer!!."
"Your scent... your.. your scent made me know that..."
"This will be fun."

His words sent shivers down my spine, I could feel the hairs on my neck stand on end, I remained lying on the floor as I had fallen, not daring to get up. He remained standing, now close to me, his face serious, his gaze fixed on me, and suddenly, he began to walk, barely taking a few steps, he returned and violently pulled me up by the arm.
"Aren't you going to move your feet or are you stupid?" His tone was visibly angry and I would say hateful. I didn't know what to answer, I was frozen by his aura, it was something evil and I felt more inhibited than usual."Do you have a degree of stupidity? Why don't you answer when I talk to you? Are you an idiot?!"
"No... no, si.. sir."
"You're not an idiot, but you stutter." And following this he let out a laugh, always holding my arm tightly. "Move your damn feet." And without much more, he threw me forward with force, causing me to stagger, to which he made a mocking face and let out a small laugh. He began to walk and as best I could I followed his pace. I couldn't believe that the Moon Goddess had done this to me, again she was abandoning me to my fate, had I been a bad daughter? I didn't understand this, why him? Since that day I asked her every night not to be linked, that it was a mistake, that he would find his mate and that it would be someone else and not me. I was tormented by nightmares at night, where I ended up with him, where what that oracle predicted materialized. It couldn't be true, this had to be a bad dream, it was and at any moment I had to wake up. I was about to pinch myself when I felt a strong slap in the face, for having been distracted in my thoughts, I had been left somewhat behind him, quite a bit perhaps, and he angrily turned back to hit me.
"Move your fucking feet if you don't want the next one to be with a closed fist!"
"Yes, I'm sorry." I remained still and after giving me a death stare, he turned around and continued. We arrived at the city where the pack was based and there I realized where we were headed, to his house, to the pack's house.
His hatred was not gratuitous, or maybe it was, but there was a whole story behind his contempt. Before him, his father, Alpha Jackson Kinnaman, was the one who ruled the Winter Mist pack, he was just as monstrous as his son, I suppose he learned from his father. All the members of his pack enjoyed a good standard of living, they lacked nothing, they had what they needed and more, but with the rest of the packs the story was different. He was a complete tyrant, overflowing with hatred towards those who were not part of Winter Mist, he considered them inferior and worthy of extermination. My father was the Alpha of a small pack of only 200 members, it was so small that we knew each other, the Green Meadow pack. Many other packs used to make fun of us, for being few, for our name and for considering us unworthy, villagers, poor, ignorant and so on. My father's pack was small, but each adult member was a worthy warrior worth five from any other pack, our preparation for war and battle was the envy of many alphas. We had a small plot of land, where we could all live peacefully, since we were a small town in inhabitants, which Alpha Jackson began to want for himself, just to annoy and out of envy. It was fertile land, it allowed us to grow our own food and raise our own livestock and various animals, we had a small economy that was enough to let us live peacefully with just enough. In my father's pack we didn't care about luxuries, it wasn't the first thing on our list. So one day, we were surprised by a large number of warriors who came in the name of Alpha Jackson, ours presented battle and came out triumphant, this greatly angered Alpha Jackson and he himself in person went to our land to present battle. He didn't count on my father and his warriors knowing their territories very well, he however didn't, he was new to our lands. My father ambushed him and managed to kill him. His body was sent to his son, Kyle, as an offering of peace and closure to said conflict, but that was not what happened. Kyle Kinnaman, assumed as Alpha, blinded by the pain and desire for revenge, led a giant battalion to the lands of the Green Meadow pack, annihilating everything in its path. He killed my father in front of my eyes, mothers and their small children were burned alive, the warriors who did not die in the battle were tortured later, skinned alive and staked in the open. Those who had not found death in the process of tearing off their skin, did so later due to pain or infection. He burned all the houses, destroyed the vast majority, very few remained standing, today it looks like a ghost town, horror inhabits that place. He never took possession of the lands, he only wanted to avenge the death of his father, the same one who had started all this just out of whim.
Someone managed to get me out, a warrior of my father. He took me to the people of the council, who gave me asylum for some time, I was seven years old at the time. As the Alpha heiress, they thought I deserved some pity, they hid for some time that I was still alive. When this news reached his ears, he searched tirelessly for my whereabouts, even offering a reward for my head. The wise men and elders of the council had to come out to make it clear that no one could harm me, that they would be condemned to death. I had nothing to do with the conflict and no more death could be added to that chapter, they considered it closed. Kyle was still young, barely nineteen years old when he had to assume after the death of his father, and although they had begun to train and prepare him at an early age, the council did not look favorably on his temperament and violence. He had no choice but to accept that, he couldn't have problems with those men, he couldn't attack the council and he hadn't had his ceremony as the new Alpha yet, he had to behave himself, at least for the moment.
Alpha Kyle Kinnaman

...Hello everyone!! 🤗...
...To avoid future inconveniences and bad times, as has happened to me with "A Second Chance", you should know that I like to give a good description of the scenes I relate, whatever they may be, of love or violence....
...I say this, because if someone is impressionable, they are already warned, if you have read my other novels, you know how I write. Don't abandon the story, give it a chance! Not everything will be ugly, but you should know that as Dumbledore told Harry "Difficult and dark times await us"....
...I appreciate if you give it a vote, I like it and gifts for my participation in the event! 🤗...
...Without further ado, thank you and have a nice night!! 💫...
I'm Akela Zaer, I was twelve years old when I was informed of a prophecy. Apparently an oracle predicted it on a full moon night. It wasn't just any night, in that same darkness a strong storm hit, the worst there had been in recent years. A strong wind, followed by a constant and thick rain, which practically flooded everything in its path. Huge and continuous rays one after another, which were the only thing that illuminated that darkness that seemed eternal for hours. The next day in the morning, after that event, the visit of the pack council surprised me in the small house I lived on the outskirts of the pack, on the edge of the territory. I already knew several of them, if not almost all of them. At seven years of age, after seeing how the Alpha Kyle Kinnaman, murdered my father in front of me, and exterminated the entire pack to which I belonged, they sheltered me. Not because I was important, I think only out of clemency, and because deep down they knew that this had been provoked by Kinnaman senior, no one but him was to blame for all that suffering and his son without wanting to come to reason, not only did he not end it, but he followed it until he destroyed everything. Only with the extermination of my race did he find his peace. At that time I was a small orphan, the only thing that kept my head alive, was the fact of being an alpha heir. I was my father's firstborn and only daughter, my mother died in childbirth after having me, from a hemorrhage, she didn't even get to hold me in her arms. My father, who loved her madly since she was his destined partner by the Moon Goddess, almost died because of that fact. Losing your mate, your partner is something catastrophic, fatal and tremendously sad, at least that's how those who manage to survive such a loss describe it. When you find your partner, the bond is created, forged, the wolf marks his mate so that everyone knows that he claims her, that she is his, sometimes the she-wolf can also mark her mate, although that doesn't work that way in all packs. The mark is completing the bond, it is merging into one with your mate, being a single soul. The connection is so strong that both feel each other's emotions with the same intensity, which is why that loss is enormous, it can even cause death. My father felt the bond break, he was outside the room while my mother was in labor. When he felt that disconnection, he entered desperately and there he saw her lifeless in the bed, on the sheets stained red by the amount of blood she had lost. He crumbled at that moment, cried a lot and they say he seemed to lose his mind, the people of the pack feared that he would go crazy. A she-wolf from the pack took care of me instantly, since my father was not in a position to do so. After about eight days of eternal mourning and suffering to the quick, my father was finally able to approach that woman's house to meet me, in everything that had happened, he had never seen my face at that time. For a few months he left me there and did not return to see me. They say that his Beta recommended that he look for me, that it would not look good for an alpha to reject his firstborn and that beyond the pain, it was what he had left to remember my mother and what they had lived, because after all, it was the fruit of love. My father gathered strength and sent for me, the Beta was in charge of removing me from there. He took me to the packer, the house of the pack, and there I grew up among nannies and maids, the figure of my father was an enigma, we barely connected. He wasn't bad to me, I know he loved me, but he kept reminding him of the most tragic event of his life. He never denied, hit or any violent situation, he just couldn't get too close, it generated an enormous sadness in him. He never recovered from the death of my mother and all his dreams of a huge family went with her that day, and only I was left as a memory of it. For all this, after his death and the extermination of the pack, I was left alone, more alone than ever. The men of the council had the idea that a family from the pack should shelter me, the search did not yield positive results, no one wanted to have anything to do with me since they did not want problems with the Alpha Kyle Kinnaman, everyone refused, even families from the surrounding packs, the council had no choice but to send me to a human orphanage. I lived there for five years, it wasn't a very good one, it was a decadent place, full of humidity, crammed with children, far exceeding its capacity, the food was very scarce and did not cover the necessary nutrients for children in full growth, the cold in winter was atrocious, it made your bones ache. At the age of twelve they came for me, they believed that I was old enough to reintegrate into the pack, it was necessary for me to be instructed as a werewolf and not to continue studying human things, as I had been doing until then. During all those years that I was in that orphanage, I knew nothing of the council, I had abandoned the idea of seeing them again, I thought I would only stay there, great was my surprise when they sent for me. Apparently they were just waiting for the waters to calm down, for all that conflict to be forgotten a little, for the people of the pack to be able to give me an opportunity or failing that, having grown up, they would no longer relate me to that girl they had met at the age of seven. Again, no one wanted to take in an orphaned she-wolf who came from a human orphanage, everyone thought that there was something strange about it, and after all they weren't so wrong. Obviously the council sought to hide my identity, but it wasn't long until rumors and stories about me began to spread. They then decided that the best thing would be for me to live alone in a small house, on the edge of the territory, they intended to hire two employees for me, but although their search encompassed other territories, no one agreed to work for me, so the council decided that I was old enough to fend for myself. They sent me a sum of money every month, with that I bought food, and paid for one thing or another, there wasn't too much left over, but I wasn't lacking either and I had learned to manage myself quite well. Everything was going smoothly and I was living a life in absolute calm until that day they knocked on the door. All my ordeal began with that prediction that afternoon.
