How To Survive (High School)

Day 1- More like day 0

This is strange... Outside isn't even day yet, but my alarm clock went off like a crazy chicken after seeing a fox. I preferred to lay down for five more minutes, but my silence was interrupted by the sound of the rain. Great, just great... The best time of the year has come A.K.A autumn. The only thing wrong about it's the start of the thing we call " school", that name is a disguise no matter what anyone tells me, and the need to wake up at unholy hours.

So here I am... Soaked in rain, waiting for the bus that will take me to my first day in prison. I mean high school, this "prison" is not so big or even glamorous, just like a real basic school. But I never understood why there are bars at the level 0 of the school, I understand on the second level however on level 0 it's like, what are you going to do? Ran away with a book from the library? Going to jump over the 3 meters high fence? Not attending your PE? Seriously ... I never understood that.

The bus is full of the elderly like it's the end of the world. I mean yeah, I understand the kids going into the bus, but some lady just goes to me and says something like:

"You kids should walk to school not take our bus. We worked for those seats for over 30 years"

The only response you can give is silence, I still wonder why this kind of person exists. If you don't like it, then don't do it. It's not like I have a choice! But I will continue the silence until I get off this bus.

After what felt like 5 hours, but it was less than 10 minutes, I finally arrived at my destination. Hundreds of kids in the courtyard and the football field impressed my disoriented eyes. It felt like the hunger games, the ones who get in the building first get to live or be bitten by bees. Everyone had at least one bouquet of colorful flowers, with unique packing. I was embarrassed by myself, the only one there that had the cheapest bouquet (at least I think so), I didn't expect so many people to bring flowers, I thought that it was high school! They don't need them! It's going to wither and be thrown away anyway! But at least I can see my classmates (whom I named classmates of suffering because we are going to go through this pain together). I watched them silently, I am a shy person after all, and opening conversations isn't my thing, and yet ...

"Hello! So you are our classmate?"

No shit Sherlock, I said in my mind "Well yeah..."

"Oh, I see! Nice to meet you! I am April."

"April? Like the month?"

"Umm... Obviously..."

"I am Sara by the way" this is very awkward, in my imagination there was going to be no need for a conversation. But here I am.

"I will see you in class then"

She said that as she walked away to the rest of the class. They were chatting with each other like they were friends before they were even born. I felt embarrassed again, it was like I was an outsider entering their world, their personal space. Then the opening ceremony began, and to cut it short it was very.. Very boring, full of promises that will never be achieved, or if it will be achieved it will be probably after we graduate.

And so, my only goal was born: Survive 4 years of this and get out alive. Nothing could go wrong ... Right ?

What materials are walls are made of?(day 2&3)

The same scenery as my middle school played in my sight, as a living memory. Our classroom was slightly bigger than the others, maybe because it was a biology laboratory, but besides the name "laboratory" nothing inside was like one. I expected that we would have dead frogs and functional microscopes, yet all we had was a singular microscope that was accompanied by some potato worms, gastric acid, and many things but minuscule. I was scared of seeing a frog opened up, not just by any person but me, that thought hunted me until today.

We took our seats down, I was at the first seat beside the window, it helped with my eyesight and I was staying alone. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a bench mate( as I nickname them) but I don't have the best memory of them. What happened you may ask? This is rather embarrassing, in middle school, I preferred to stay in the back benches, yes the famous back benches that can do whatever their heart desires. That was the problem, one day one of my dear classmates (which I will nickname devils for obvious reasons) decided to pull a prank on me and stole my chair (which was in the worst condition possible). I was the only one standing and the teacher walked in, they thought I wanted to respond about today's lesson. But the happy ending, they were punished.

Moving on to the present day! I was lucky enough that the chairs were glued to the floor and that was not going to happen again. I let out a sigh of relief, maybe they were not that bad. My relief was rather short because our principal walked in and gave our schedules, teacher names, and everything. That is followed by the most cringe part of the session (in my opinion) the principal followed by the sworn of kids with bouquets in hand. They all waited for their chance to give a "Have a nice year principal! I hope everything will go well". That sentence alone made me feel like it will be the opposite, it was my turn and I gave the everlasting speech that everyone previously said, I did some grammatical mistakes here and there because of my nervousness, and I was about to give them the flowers when a hand switched my hand, so the bouquet was upside down. I don't know if anyone still cares about this stuff but I am sure that it's pretty much a thing for us:" The flowers are given upside down for those who are alive and up straight for the dead" or something like that. I didn't care too much about that until now but now every time I give someone flowers I first need to have a panic attack about how to hold them.

The first day was finally over, I went straight to sleep until the very next day.

Day 2 of hell

I went to the bathroom to do my daily routine. When it comes to dressing up and stuff, I think I hold a record for it, not officially of course. All the remaining time I spend either eating or watching my favorite show, who needs food when one of your favorite characters is being slaughtered? Anyway, I finished all that and went to my first part of today's survival: the bus. Finding an empty bus it's like trying to find a needle between the gasps of the car components. You either give up and walk to school or you wait until a free one comes, when it comes it feels like you've won the lottery.

After that, it comes the biggest part of survival: school time.

I entered the classroom, everyone was shining as usual. I sat down and observed their movements. When one of my classmates approached a wall, I was about to go there but April jumpscared me in the process.

"What do you think about this class?"

"It could be better...I think" I said as I watched the classmate ripping off the cheap wood of the wall in the back of the class.

"Don't worry about him, he thinks that he will find a secret room or something."

Then as the light hit my head, an evil but genius plan was gifted to me.

"What if he is right?"

I rushed to the boy, it was that feeling that you have when you watch adventure movies, a feeling of discovering something new. The wood was torn apart from the wall but it could be put back together. The guy didn't hesitate and threw a punch at the wall. The force was too much, or the wall was too weak but we discover a small light coming from the other side.

"Seriously what that wall was made of?" said the guy as if he won the MMA tournament.

"Apparently not a wall but why would they hide this? Are there ghosts?" said a girl that worries too much

We decided to hide the evidence and never talk about it until tomorrow, I was already dreaming of making a small business in that place, or maybe we could discover a treasure. I waited until tomorrow like it was the coolest thing ever.

Day 3- Secret room reveal?

After I arrived at school I was impressed by the number of people gathered around the back benches, near the supposed wall. It seems that a girl knew the principal and they talked about this and gave us their approval to do whatever we want with that as long as it brings profit to the school. What a jackass, but smart. So I stepped forward and with nervousness I said :

"What about we do a café and in that a place where kids can leave a memory and stuff."

The idea didn't sound half bad, there was one obstacle in our way, money. We didn't have the money or an adult with us but our lovely April came up with a genius idea:

"Let's improvise then!"

I swear that sometimes this girl is smart only when she wants to. But to be honest, everyone liked the idea, and so my second goal was born, ironic or not will make my survival easier because if everyone acknowledges you as being responsible then you have chances at making friends. Only one big obstacle was in my way: the fact that I don't like seeing too many people in one space and the fact that I have two left hands

What am I going to do?

A ray of sunshine appears

The week got finished very soon, it's the weekend and the only thing I have to do is my homework. To be honest, I could care less about it but it was an essential part of survival, you never know when a teacher wakes up that you don't have enough grades and decide to check the homework. In middle school, we were forced to have little portfolios with every homework we had to do but that homework was from a book and you had to crop pages of that 10-dollar wish version but everything was supposed to be verified by the teacher. Spoiler: No one did that.

Back to the present day, the first week of school is known as the "free" week because you have to know the school and know all the teachers ... Yeah, if "knowing the school" means destroying the property and finding a secret room so the principal takes advantage of that to make a profit. How great right?

I've spent the night thinking of possibilities to help with the decoration of the café, I am not a crafty person but I had some ideas. Most of my decorations were just plain Halloween lights and some artificial flowers. There was a nice shop in the neighborhood city that had all sorts of stuff for decoration, so I texted the class about it. They immediately agreed to my idea, and someone offered to sell some stuff online for our cause. Everyone was offering for doing something, so all the money will be gathered and we will all go to that store and gather what our eye thinks is pretty because: " It's our place! We need everyone's imprint of personality in it". Seemed reasonable, but it could be the worst idea too, considering our personalities combined it could make big chaos. At least I think so, how hard can it be right?

The next day we all gathered in a café to celebrate our begging, it was I was invited as well considering I am their classmate. I didn't know why we were celebrating, but soon an adult person walked into the café. It was a man in his late 30s dressed like some IT nerd or something. He sat somewhere so we could all see him and then a classmate spoke :

"This is our new partner in business, he saw my shop online, and after some exchanging he was interested in our cause and decided to help us with everything with 20% of our profit going to him first ".

It seemed like a good offer but 20% out of zero it's still zero. Perhaps he saw this as a very good business idea but you know everyone has to go through the bottom first. But we accepted anyway, well not everyone but the majority wins everything.

Our plan seems to have success and luck it was like this was meant to happen, who would've thought we had such fate? Now we all had a real motive to celebrate, it was beautiful and warm, and the vibe was great. It was the first time I felt such a thing, I was truly happy like my life just started but making my road before I even try, it's amazing. We spend all afternoon partying.

A new week of school has started and with that, I learned the very first rule of survival: Never do anything stupid or noticeable or you will be recognized for that action for 4 years. That happened with the guy that punched the wall on our very first day, to be honest, yes it was stupid, but if it weren't for him then we would not have our café. The truth is that the rest of the school was jealous of our discovery, they could've done so many things there like a sandwich area or a place to raise cockroaches (who would do that?!) but we claimed our place like a real estate property. The teachers didn't mind it as long as we don't ruin the teaching process, I think they like our idea but can't admit it. However, the teacher's support was something that caused...
