Frustration (Short Stories)
Story 1
She was a young tortoise. Just like human kids going to school for studies, these tortoises also had a school near a sea bank. Her parents used to send her to the school. But she always felt the school boring as the teachers there always taught the same topic on how to catch fishes, how to swim for long time without getting tired, how to get away from Sharks etc. She used to get frustrated hearing to the same topics and in anger sometimes used to open her mouth wide open and bite nearby other kid tortoises. Due to this other tortoises started avoiding her which
Further, increased her anger and started feeling lonely. Once after school, she was very angry by the way she was getting treated at school and swam her way back to home. Suddenly she realized she was going in the opposite direction of her home as her mind was overwhelmed by anger. Just before she was turning back to her route, she noticed a big structure was approaching towards her. When it came near, she realized it was a big old tortoise which may be older than 100 years. She remembered her mother's saying that these old tortoises have enough experience and memories and provide good guidance.
Buy the time she thought of speaking the old tortoise patted on her back and said - "Child, why are you looking depressed ? ". She suddenly burst into tears and explain about her experiences at school and how she was treated which caused her boredom and anger. The old tortoise then thought for a minute and advised her -" Yes child, even when I was young I also faced the same problem which you are facing now. There is a solution to this.
You should do 3 activities when you start getting angry or frustrated. One - the moment when you feel you are getting angry, hide your neck inside your shell and close your eyes. Two - Take a deep breath 3 times and relax yourself and Finally Three - Think what you can do or tell which will not hurt others. Practice this and within some period your problem will be solved.". She understood the tips given by the old tortoise, thanked him and started following the steps.
Whenever she felt angry, used to hide her neck, relax for a minute with deep breath and come out with a refreshing smile. Other tortoises looking at her also shared a gentle smile. As time passed by, she became popular and lived happily.

The above story applies to we humans also - Whenever we feel depressed / Angry / frustrated - if we can control it for a moment, take a deep breath and relax our minds, we can avoid the bad consequences of anger and our reactions will not hurt others. This also improves our relationship and rapport with others. Turning Anger to a Gentle Smile inside your mind is an effective tool to control anger and live happily.

Story 2
Have you ever felt like something bad was about to happen? Well, it happens to me all the time, except something actually does happen. Yes, it does suck, but this is life and life sucks.
Oh, I forgot to introduce myself,
I’m Jonita Cazma and everyday something different happens. Different could be sometimes good, but mostly bad. Like yesterday in school I got 70% in my math test.
Yes, it may sound like an excellent score, but you know Asian parents! After receiving 70% in math, I felt quite proud of myself because my marks were the same as before.
But when I went home, oh! I can’t tell you how much blah blah blah I got!
I pretty much remember their whole speech. It went something like this; “Jonita honey, what did you get for your math test?” That was mum. Instead of telling her I showed her.
“What!”
Expected. And now it begins.
“What will I tell your aunties and uncles? Are you trying to bring our family to shame? How will you become a doctor with 70%? Tell me Jonita.
How many times have I told you not to go on Face book and that crap? This will get you nowhere in life, you will most likely end up as a cleaner. Do you get me!!?? That’s enough! You’re in year nine and these are crucial years, I don’t approve of you getting so low marks.
I am going to tell your father to block Face book and the TV for you. Until you start getting no less than 97%.”
She doesn’t even let me speak once. It’s kind of funny; her Indian accent with English is hilarious. Seriously who wants parents like mine, except for dorks. I’m not one though. I guess I must get 97% from now on, in every test.
Face book I’m so going to get you back!
“Jonita, get up!” My mum yells at me. She’s my personal alarm clock.
“Coming, coming.” It’s already 7:20 am, 7:20 am! What! I’m going to be late. See, I have to get up early because I’m slow, and I must leave at 8:10 am. And mum has to drop me. Yes, you must be thinking, why don’t I just catch the train? Well, yes I would, but I can’t, because there are boys on the train. My mind should be on studies, not on boys, but it isn’t on either, so I don’t see the problem.
“Let’s go mum.” We drive off to school. Mum drops me right in front of the gates. Of course, I go to an only girl’s school. It’s not like some random man is going to come and harass me or something.
“Bye mum.” I normally don’t say bye to her, but if I don’t, then she’ll come outside and start kissing me. Embarrassing!
I run to class, give my test back to my homeroom teacher.
First we have geography. Then we have a few other boring classes, like history. Then we are back to homeroom. End of the day. Nothing had happened, no awful bits. I got that much.
But what will happen at home tonight?

Story 3
There was a man who was totally fed up, frustrated, disheartened and full of agony with his life.
He started to keep him alone, did not want to interact with anyone because he thought nobody could help him to get rid of his problems.
One day that person sat near a beautiful lake and blaming God for their all failure and frustrated life. At the same time, an old Monk was going through that path to go to a nearby temple.
Monk saw that man and came to him.
Monk– What are you doing here.
Frustrated man– Nothing I am fine (in a rude tone)
Monk again tried to know the reason for his sadness with humble words, but that man continuously ignored him and getting angry.
Monk said no problem, Do not get angry my child.
“God will correct all the things, but you have to keep trust on your karma and in God.”
After 10 days when man’s agony reached on extream, and he decided to end his frustrating life.
Suddenly a voice resonated in mind that was Monk’s words “God will correct all the things but keep trust on your karma and in God.”
He decided to go temple the last time then he will end his waste life.
However, he wrongly interpreted the words of Monk.
He though Monk said, “If I will go to the temple and deliver prayer God will solve all the financial and mental problems” but his mind did not emphasis the second part of the statement which was “Karma”.
He went to a nearby temple and stared at the Buddha with flooded eyes and bargaining with God if you will not solve my financial and mental problems I will end this useless life.
The same monk was there and recognized him. He came to him and gently asked: “my child what happened to you”.
The man couldn’t stop himself to share his agony and plight. He explained to the Monk that he is a graduate but still I am jobless and nobody loves me.
Now I have no courage to bear this frustrating life that is why I came here to the final complaint to God. If God does not give me a respective job then I will end my frustrating life.
Monk smiled and said, your problem is not big, but you are considering yourself very small in front of your problems.
The man replied, “Sir could you please help me and show me the right path”
The Monk gave him 3 spoon salt and asked him to add into a glass of water and taste it, the man did the same and when he took a sip his expression was so bad. He replied with anger “very worst tastes”
Then Monk took him to a nearby natural lake and asked him to add the same quantity of salt into the lake, he added then Monk asked him to taste of the water, the man tasted the water and replied it is freshwater and good taste.
Monk said, my child Now suppose Salt is your problem and amount of water container is your mental capacity which holds all negative emotions including the agony, frustration, grudges, complaint etc.
We cannot stop anyone to add salt in life because it is not our choice bur “how we to resolve it” our choice.
After the Monk’s explanation, the man realized why he was feeling depressed and living a frustrated life. He never tried to change the mindset and always wanted to change the life or expected to fix the problem itself.
The man who returned from the temple was different, Not only he found himself as a believer in Karma, but also he got clarity into his life goal.
“Always remember that the problem cannot be resolved in the same state of mind through which it was generated, we have to change the state of mind to find the appropriate solution of problems.”
