Edgar the homeless, at least that's what everyone in this little town called him ever since he made a sudden entrance here. He is a 68 year old man, whose fate didn't work to his favour in the long term. Generally, luck wasn't by his side but his considerably worst event is very recent. He escaped Iron city due to it's rather hard to catch up financial preferences, one old man with no skill can't make it in the big city alone. Edgar could barely save up any coins and would likely be in debt by now if he didn't share a house with his son who covered more than half of the house expenses, plus the rent. His son never said anything about it, welcoming his father with open arms even. But when Edgar noticed his 32 year old son getting gray hair out of stress, splitting paths started sounding like the best solution. His son has a wife and kids too, they as a family demand care. Feeling fairly capable to live low on a small town, after strong will and a heavy argumentwith his son who insisted for Edgar to stay, the old left that house in Iron city and started his journey to reach the village of Blenar. Considering the bronze coins that he saved up over the years, Edgar feels confident with the amount, knowing that he has enough for at least a few years. Edgar is 68 years old, the likeness of him living after 71 is rather slim, so thousands of coins aren't really necessary for a living. He has enough to live on low standards in this little town, while maybe doing a side task just to live by. And maybe old Edgar would have made a fair living that way, but in the middle of his Journey to this little village, he got mugged. Jumped by a couple of Bandits, over powered, beaten beyond prepare and finally stripped of his valuable belongings.
However the old man didn't care about the bronze coins as much as he cared about one little silver necklace. He got that necklace from his little 5 year old niece, who cried beyond calming downwhen her Grandfather chose to part ways. At the end, removing the necklace from her neck, gently handed it to Edgar and whispered. "If you run out of food, you can sell this Grandpa." She didn't know the Value of the Necklace, it wasn't exactly expensive. Even if it was, he would have no intention of selling it, would rather starve actually. His little Niece gave it to him after all. A rather terrible fate, it broke his heart. The old man lost that necklace, the only thing he could remember his niece by. Now he's tad traumatized, he can't take the road to Iron city on foot again. Now, If Edgar had those bronze coins, he would be living in a cozy little home, sippin on some nice black tea in front of a warm fire. Considering age, it is a strong hassle for him to get hired on small tasks in exchange for coins. He didn't expect it to be this hard to work here, fairly underestimated everything about this trip. Some Townsfolk found the privilege to feed him a few times when they heard about his terrible fate. But they all live in a remote area with food scarce, most can only help so much even if they wanted to help more. Some even shared their meal with him, sat down to keep him company as well. Everyone needs someone to talk too and Edgar will always appreciate those people. But what would you say if I told you that his bad fate finally ended his sorrow? Tremendous bad luck at least but yet for him, a strong blessing. Murder! In his little tent provided by a villager for Edgar to have a chance against the blistering november cold. As he's curled up in his sleeping bag, a silent Murder struck this village. Even while he's sound asleep, dreaming, He dreamt of his niece, crying over the fact that he won't see her again. Whoever or whatever found the heart to kill such an innocent old man, escaped unscaved, unnoticed, with a superior position. Who, brought murder upon this small village? Scrap that question. Why, bring murder to this village? Its people barely have enough to fill their stomachs, but they grabbed a clay plate, sat down with Edgar and shared a meal with him. You can never find enough reasons to justify murder upon anyone in this town, even for newcomers. One day passed and no one Noticed his terrible fate... He hasn't gone out of his tent all day, some didn't bother to check. And those who wanted to, got distracted by other tasks and forgot all about it. The murder was so clean, that blood didn't even drip out of the tent. His death has escaped unnoticed.
Edgar's death escaped unnoticed for a whole day, with none of his family members around to notice it as soon as they wake up in the morning, it isn't a surprise. Because even though the villagers have proven helpful towards him, they can't really invade his privacy. They can't walk in and out of his tent whenever they please. Not invading his privacy aside, something else can point gut towards death apart from people being suspicious when old Edgar doesn't come out of his tent for more than a day. Stench! Dead bodies smell, badly! So it won't take long for one to filter out the extra bad smell and investigate. The smell can be unbearable, traumatizing even for those with a sensitive nose, it will feel like the smell got stuck in one's nose even hours to days after the experience. But since the stench of a dead body isn't so strong on the first day and there isn't any blood to give out a sign or extra odor, his death will remain unnoticed until further signs kick in. Because light odors have it easy to escape unnoticed here where Indoor plumbing isn't available. Their shower, is the river. They would be considered clean if they took a swim down the river once or twice a month. Their toilet is a wide deep-ish hole covered with planks so people don't fall down the dunk hole obviously on those planks there usually are triangular holes in the middle, where the business is dropped down. Almost each house has those sort of toilets while some houses share them to cut expenses. And although this information about the two topics has become tad extensive, it proves the point. Light odors can escape unnoticed here in Blenar. Which signifies that now Edgar's death will be even more forgotten, at least temporarily. Especially now that another murder has struck upon this little town of 40 houses. "Help! My father, he is help!" Yelled a girl in her teen years!! Terrified, with her heart pounding in fear and one tear after the other rolling down from her eyes to her cheeks and dropping to the muddy ground. The town is only so small, everyone heard her cry for help and rushed to the scene, dropping down any other task they were currently doing Those people didn't approach to just see some drams, they didn't come to just witness this girl have a mental breakdown as they comment on her fate without londing a hand. All of them, men and women approached with aims to help, no discrimination. They aren't here for the Banter, which can be considered the purest form of help by most. "What happened?" "Where is your father?" "Why did you servAM?” "Did someone hurt you? Did someone (touch you?!" "Where does it hurt?" A Crowd of questions surrounded her, and just when she opened her mouth to answer one question, another one popped up. This crowd wanted to help yes, but they are only giving her more stress, she already has enough. She already has enough trouble speaking due to this Trauma, it didn't help to have her answers cut short "Give her some space. Yelled out a larger woman, standing around 6.4ft tall as she shoveled away the people in front of her who kept asking questions. Noticing that the crowd is giving the teenage girl a lot of stress, the tall woman yells "Quiet! Putting the crowd to rest in a blink of an eye, apparently they respect her word a lot. Using the opportunity under her disposition, the tall lady asks in a low comforting tone. "What happened Ellie?" Ellie's mouth opens but her tongue feels heavy, unable to speak. Just standing there as if paralyzed, leaving everyone still wondering and unable to accept this bad fate. Half a minute of repetitive questions later, Ellie just pointed towards her house's door, which is a clear gesture leading to the problem. But it appears that some men have already stormed her house while the rest of the villagers were asking her a hoop load of questions and of course alming to assure that she is okay. One of those men pointed towards the first room very close to the entrance and butchers. "You might want to see this chief Amber Chief Ambers took a couple of seconds to get enough courage to enter the house, it isn't really settling to be in the same room with a dead person. Upon stepping in she had to squat down a little bit, because the door is only 5 teet tall. Once entering, she had to take a left turn to enter the said room Because all the house has is a 3 foot wide hallway located on the right side of the house. That hallway allows access to two rooms, which likely one belonged to Ellie and the other belonged to her father's. The house is too small indeed, there is no living room to be spoken off but it also explains why thin house has two cobblestone chimneys First the poorest man in town got murdered and now this family of swo who don't seem to have great financial options. Does the murderer prey in the poor people? Or does the murderer prey on those with the most emotional pain first? It really is hard to tell. After chief Ambers enters the first room, she notices the Father laying still on his bed. Well that's the normal part. I mean he is dead. But the scene isn't bloody At all No cuts, no bruises, no signs of a midnight fight, absolutely nothing. Not even signs of suicide. At first sight one would think that he died on his bed, so what exactly happened here? She walked towards the father, noticing that his skin became abnormally pale which would signify the first sign that he didn't make it, since his blood stopped flowing, body heat dropped tremendously and he froze stiff after the Fireplace dimmed. When she got a chance to take a look at his eyes, she notices that they remained wide open Something uncontrollable when death falls upon a person. Finding the guts to approach his mouth to listen if he's breathing! She swiftly noticed that he wasn't and quickly pulled her head back, Not feeling comfortable about listening for too long. Well, what all these 3 signs fell her, is that he died in his sleep. A rather peaceful way to die considered by most, but who can tell that this was actually, Murder! The kill is so clean and the evidence, none. Walking our of the house with the crowd of people waiting for her and trying to calm Ellie down. Chief Ambers approaches and tries to break it to Ellie kindly as who knows how much pain she is withstanding at this very moment. Her tone delicate, chief Ambers cites Ellie, sweetie, it looks like your father died in his sleep, I'm so sorry" The sorrow and pain of which arose in Ellie's heart at that moment was immeasurable. She was slowly accepting the fact that her father didn't make it. But such sudden truth splashed, got her overwhelmed. Being 17 year old girl, she lost her mother not so long ago and now her father too? Thankfully the men in this town aren't the sort of people that would use this situation to their advantage, to feed lusty needs. But she will still be alone, without a shoulder to cry on. Her father was kind and supporting, especially after hin wife passed away. All they had was each other. Taking the death of his wife into consideration, a lot of villagers thought of it as the base reason of his death. His heart probably couldn't take it anymore. Once one thought like that arose in the crowd of people, the rest followed with similar thoughts although their main focus was to provide support for Ellie, trying their best to calm her down. Her pain reaches to the point of unbaring. Her heart and bruin took enough in one morning. Although Murder didn't fall upon her too, she did faint. "Don't let her head hit the ground!" Yelled a villager as be noticed that Ellie's fainting but he's out of reach and his feet feeling quite a bit frozen. Stiff due to the fact that Stonemason Daril left this world never to walk again, never to let out a cheerful greeting to his fellow villagers. Chief Ambers was the closest to Ellie at that moment and given her blessed long arms, she managed to catch Ellie. Preventing her from hitting the muddy rocky ground. Getting struck on the head Jan't exactly the best thing to experience You would be blessed. If you only received life long scars with no brain damage. "Get some Water" Hollered chief Ambers while stroking the poor Ellie's hair.
Stonemason Daril's death was at many aspects confusing but at the same time it wasn't Everyone just assumes that he died in his bed, possibly from heart problems due to the death of his wife years ago. It can be hard to withstand based on how connected one would be to his partner. But Ellie, she claims that this isn't the case and shouts it with all her guts and intent. After waking up. she explained to chief Ambers about the noises she has heard at night! Brooms dropping after getting set straight 3 times in a row, buckets rattling for no apparent logical reason, one side of her bed being elevated a foot off the ground before being lightly dropped again and of course the undefeated feeling that she wasn't alone in her room! Chief Ambers found it hard to believe although such reports have been made rarely over the years, such as weird figures or people walking around or flashing in front of a few villagers. She has never heard of ghosts murdering someone and definitely never heard of the paranormal being this close to a pre-suspecting human, Chief Ambers tried to convince Ellie that she just might have been over paranoid, the time of hearing the broom drop down might have just started a cycle of fear. But Ellie withstood to her points, her paranoia after all could have not made the bottom side of the bed lift up for a foot! Ellie isn't even sure if stereotypical witches can do that. Regardless, they've let this case escape unnoticed. Although people would find it easy to believe in ghost stories, Ellie is breaking the normal with hers. And if chief Ambers says that Ellie is paranoid then she is paranoid. Ambers is the chief of the village for a reason, no one can match her intelligence and problem solving. She has an attitude about the same size of her height. Speaking of problem solving, she has decided to call for a... friend in a nearby hunting camp. The said location is 10 kilometers far from the village of Blenar and actually that hunter has directed Edgar the less fortunate here, once spotting the old man being tad lost. This hunter goes by the name of Delion Katell the second and he is... a rather different person. One would mostly see him alone, he spends most of his time hunting or preparing for it. He doesn't speak much but when he does, it is commonly followed up by attitude. Apart from being a hunter, this man is commonly called a qualified detective. He has solved cases for royalty in the big cities but has put that life far behind him. Ambers' idea is to have him here, investigating the situation but it could be tricky to convince Delion. "Why have you called me here?" Delion spoke, a bit angry but hiding his mild anger behind a reactionless face and adding. Tim busy." "Busy with what? You have enough meat stocked up for years!" Chief Ambers spoke, gentle actually and indirectly trying to raise his ego. "We need your level of expertise, people are randomly dying!" They have discovered old Edgar's body too thankfully, most thought it to be due to old age since there isn't blood, nor signs of struggle or a fight. They've discovered the body, when the foul stench of a dead corpse reached their noses. Not the best experience, but at least they have granted him a coffin along with a grave at the village's cemetery Stonemason Daril was granted a grave as well, but Ellie fainted three times throughout the process. She lost her mother and now! her father as well? It isn't something easy to withstand, and she refuses to go back to her own house thinking that someone will kill her. Chief Ambers has decided to take her in, she will feel a lot more protected with a 6.4 foot tall lady to her aid and Ambers will feel better: if 17 year old Ellie is under her safety Getting back to the point, this small but yet impactful sentence called for Dellon's attention. Raising his eyebrow high, and boldly asking, "How is it my problem?" Still feeling unsure if he should take the case or not, but expressing it in an unpleasant way. Delion has been called in the chief's house to speak in private, therefore Ambers has the capability to drip a bag of bronze coins on the table. With a smirk across her face, she weighs in. "400 bronze coins, it's not how much your royals paid you but here it is considered 4 salaries!" "It is odd for you to think that bronze coins, or gold coins for that matter would change my mind." Getting up from his chair. Delion let out a stressful sigh and adds. "Thank you for wasting my time." The moment he stood up, Chief Ambers grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back down. Now they are face to face, being only a few inches away from each other. She speaks out in a low tone, "Take this case and I'll give you what you wanted this whole time." Delion is a big guy, 5.9 feet tall and undoubtedly buff but not to the extreme. We can call him mildly buff, but his muscles obviously aren't enough to escape chief Ambers! grip. Indirectly accepting it, he sits down and removes Amber's grip from his collar, asking "When was the first death registered?" "Today, stonemason Daril is gone. We think he just died naturally on his bed, but his daughter claims to have noticed paranormal activities. Although not seeing anything. she felt her bed elevating!" Ambers got to the case directly, knowing that he has accepted the job and having a rather noticeable smirk on her face thanks to it. "So the bed just lifted up without anyone being in the room?" He asks, finding it a bit unbelievable and afterwards questioning. "How old is she?" "17. Ambers spoke lightly, as if reading Delion's mind she added. "So it can't be just a little girl's fantasies, she is almost an adult and in such a case would have no reason to lie." "Is that the only death?" He asks, perhaps it will make sense if another victim is included. Because the information he is getting is too scarce and would in no way link up. "No, we also found an old man dead in his tent. He might have died earlier, perhaps 1-7 days ago? We didn't really notice until today." Recalling that the old man mentioned a hunter in the very beginning. Ambers cites. "You knew old Edgar." "Edgar is dead?" He asked, curious and at the same time a bit sad about it but not enough to raise his voice and none the less cause a scene. "Yes, he might have died out of old age and the case could be unrelated. Like Daril's death, his had no sign of a fight nor a scar." She was swift to explain the cases, so the detective here can get a grasp of the situation quicker. Realizing that the information he is getting out of chief Ambers is not enough, he demands: "I need to have a closer look at the crime scenes,
