"Mama..."

A small boy, just over two years old, darted off, ignoring the nanny in pursuit behind him.

"Mama..." he shouted louder.

This caught the attention of a beautiful woman sitting with her potential beau, both turning to look at the young child.

"Mama..?" the man questioned Kaylin, now with the boy standing by the woman he was getting to know. "Who is this? Don’t tell me you have a child already?"

"No.. no! You’re misunderstanding, he’s—"

"Mama I want ice cweam..." Rex lisped a little.

"Oh my God, you actually have a child. I assumed you were unmarried." Feeling deceived, he hurried away from their meeting spot.

"Wait, Rafael! You’ve got it wrong." Kaylin chased after her blind date, determined not to fail again in love, after twenty-two blind date debacles all due to the meddling little Rex. "He's my nephew, I'm not married so how could I have a child?"

Rafael stopped, gazing at Kaylin with a cynical smile. "You expect me to believe that?"

"You must believe! If necessary, ask his nanny." Kaylin pointed to the trusted caregiver in charge of Rex.

Rafael glanced at the nanny, then back to the boy who had called Kaylin Mama. Instead of questioning the caregiver, Rafael chose to directly ask the young boy.

"Is she your mama?"

Rex eyed Aunt Kaylin, who was signaling to him, and he spontaneously waved back, drawing Rafael's attention behind him.

"Don’t be scared, tell me, is she your mama?" Rafael persisted, scrutinizing Kaylin sharply.

"Mama, my mama." Rex pointed to his auntie.

Kaylin roughly smacked her forehead upon hearing her nephew's answer. "You're in for it now, Rex," she thought angrily.

"See..!" Rafael exclaimed, disbelieving. A young and beautiful woman had dared to lie to him, claiming to be single whilst potentially having a child, even possibly a husband.

"Rafael, why would you ask him, my nephew always calls me mama. If you don’t believe it, ask the nanny."

"No need," Rafael declared, deciding to leave the place.

Kaylin could do nothing but watch him go, cursing her nephew under her breath for ruining another chance at love.

"Rex Meyer...!" Kaylin glared menacingly at her nephew.

Sensing Aunt Kaylin’s anger, Rex hid behind his nanny.

"Why do you always make Mama fail to get a boyfriend...." Instead of anger, Kaylin ended up crouching and bursting into uncontrollable tears, oblivious to everyone in the restaurant staring at her. "You're so frustrating, just like your Mommy..." she sobbed harshly.

"Don't cry Mama..." Rex gently stroked the hair of his aunt with affection.

Far from soothing her, Kaylin wept even harder. She lamented her cursed fate, burdened with a nephew resembling a little demon who constantly disrupted her life. Now, thanks to Rex, her tally of failed love attempts had hit twenty-three.

"Do you want your beautiful Mama to stay single forever?" she said sharply, while hugging her one and only nephew.

No matter how angry Kaylin was with Rex, she still loved her nephew dearly. She also knew that her failures in love were not entirely his fault. Blame her annoying brother-in-law who always taught Rex to call her mama so that Kaylin would end up taking care of Rex, reluctantly.

"What's that, Mama?" Rex asked with his innocent face, making Kaylin burst into laughter after previously crying, entertaining the restaurant visitors.

"Never mind what Mama said earlier!" Kaylin stood up and stared sharply at her caretaker. "Where is Mommy going this time?"

"Madam and Sir suddenly had some business in Bali, so I was instructed to bring the little master to you."

Kaylin sighed heavily because once again, Rex was entrusted to her because Cleopatra and her brother were busy working. Do you know what her sister-in-law forgot? That she was also busy, busy looking for a partner to be her future husband. And it should be emphasized, how could she find a lover if Rex always followed her everywhere and called her mama?

One more thing that her sister-in-law forgot. Kaylin was still young, her age was more suitable for having fun, not burdened with the task of taking care of a little child. Although the opposite happened, Rex was the one who took care of her more, with his carefree nature that couldn't disappear even though she was already an adult.

"Let's go home now!"

"Rex wants ice cream," he didn't want to go home before his Aunty bought him what he wanted.

"Oh my goodness, Rex Meyer..." Kaylin messed up her nephew's hair in frustration. Because she was amazed by Rex's love for ice cream, ever since her nephew was still in her sister-in-law's womb. And don't forget, she was once told to buy ice cream that was quite far from the Meyer mansion.

"Mama will buy it, but let's go out first, okay." Kaylin led Rex towards the exit.

"Mama aw—" Before Rex could inform her that the glass door in front of them hadn't been opened, Aunty Kaylin had already hit the door.

"Hey...Who put this big glass here?" Kaylin asked angrily while rubbing her sore forehead.

"I'm sorry Miss, this glass door has been here since the restaurant opened," the restaurant waiter answered.

"Oh great, answering back too, I was just asking to lessen my embarrassment," Kaylin cursed in her heart. She hurriedly left the restaurant, half running.

Unbeknownst to Kaylin, the incident she had just experienced was observed and closely watched by a sturdy man sitting at one of the tables in the restaurant.

"You're still the same, clumsy, childish, and spoiled," he muttered. He stared at the woman who used to fill his days with all the silly behavior that irritated him. At first, he thought that after not seeing each other for three long years, Kaylin would have grown into a more mature person. But the reality was that she was still the same as the last time they met.

After buying the ice cream Rex wanted, Kaylin walked towards her car parked across the street. However, as she was about to cross, a black car came speeding from the right. Unable to dodge because she was too shocked and scared, Kaylin could only close her eyes as she felt her body being embraced and quickly falling.

"Miss.. Are you okay?" Kaylin, still terrified, dared not open her eyes even though she heard many voices asking about her condition. But when she heard the sound of a crying child, more precisely Rex's cries, Kaylin slowly opened her eyes.

"Mama..."

"Rex..." Kaylin hugged the small body that looked very frightened. "Mama is fine, don't cry."

"Mama... Rex's scared."

Ignoring the pain that was throbbing through her body, Kaylin tried to stand up while carrying her nephew and comforting Rex, persuading her nephew to stop crying.

"Are you okay, Miss?" Rex, the caretaker, asked nervously after seeing Miss Kaylin nearly hit by a car.

"I'm fine," although her elbows were stinging from abrasions, at least she was still alive. Remembering how fast the black car was that almost hit her.

"Thank goodness, Miss. Luckily, there was a gentleman—" the caretaker searched for the whereabouts of the man who had saved Miss Kaylin.

"Who, sir?"

"The man who saved you, he was here just now, but..." he looked in all directions. "Well... That man who saved you," he pointed to a man who was walking away from their location.

Kaylin stared at the straight back of a man wearing a black suit. But before she could call out, the man had already entered the car.

"Why do I feel like I know him?" Kaylin whispered to herself.

The next day.

News about Kaylin almost getting hit by a car finally reached the ears of Kenan Meyer and Cleopatra. The two immediately returned to Jakarta, even though their work in Bali was not completely finished.

"Starting today, I am assigning a personal bodyguard who will accompany you wherever you go!"

"I don't want to, brother!" Kaylin said with the typical face of someone who just woke up.

"We're not negotiating, this is an order!"

"But I don't want to," Kaylin yawned several times while trying to hold back her sleepiness. How could she not be sleepy, it was only nine in the morning and she had been woken up to listen to her brother and sister-in-law's nonsense. "I don't need a bodyguard, I can still take care of myself."

"Can take care of yourself? Did you forget that you almost got hit by a car yesterday? If no one had helped, who knows what would have happened." Kenan decided to have his sister guarded by a special personal bodyguard not without reason. Because accidents like yesterday's had happened three times in the past month. Kenan was afraid that his sister would become a target of his competitors who felt resentful for always losing in winning a tender.

"Almost, but look, I'm fine, right?"

"Kay!" Kenan snapped.

Cleopatra, who had been silent all this time, began to win her husband over as he appeared to be getting emotional.

"And one more thing! You said you can take care of yourself? You can't even take care of yourself properly!"

"What? What do you mean, brother?" Kaylin's sleepiness turned into emotions all of a sudden.

"Tsk, look at yourself in the mirror! No woman wakes up at this hour, and even your drool stains are still visible."

"Really, brother?" Kaylin reflexively wiped her lips and cheeks, then smiled when she realized how messy she looked. "That's not right, brother. I just woke up and was dragged here. My mouth must still stink, thankfully there's no one else here."

"You..."

"Enough, why do you two always argue?" Cleo, who had been quiet until now, spoke up when she saw Kenan getting more emotional. She didn't do it to help Kaylin but because she wanted their matter to be settled quickly so she could rest. "Kay, are you sure you don't want a personal bodyguard?"

"Of course," Kaylin answered firmly.

"Sure? He's very handsome, and—"

"Good morning, Sir, Madam."

Everyone in the room turned to the source of the voice, including Kaylin. They looked at the handsome, dignified man who was now standing in the same room as them.

"Alexander..." Kaylin's eyes almost popped out of their sockets as she was surprised by the arrival of the man who used to be her lover.

Meanwhile, Cleo almost laughed when she saw the surprise on her sister-in-law's face. "Alex is going to be your bodyguard? Are you sure you want to reject him?" Cleo whispered.

Kaylin herself ignored her sister-in-law's whisper because she was still shocked by Alexander's arrival. Especially when she found out that her ex-boyfriend would be her personal bodyguard.
